See, this is the extreme that everyone jumps to. I don't want people spawning in the north, ever. For a variety of very real and pragmatic gameplay reasons (i.e. getting relatively easy access to high-end loot, getting a posturing advantage on potential player storage, etc.) Forced mobility via spawn points doesn't work, it still devolves into deathmatching (see Overwatch). Mobility needs to be encouraged via demand (loot and survival needs) and ambition (fortresses, vehicles, storage). Spreading folks out along the coast, rather than just spawning people near Berezino... in addition to removing or limiting the loot spawns at Balota... in addition to tweaking the overall loot bias inland... in addition to increasing the zombie densities around major cities... will encourage folks to be more mobile in a much more natural manner than just spreading them across the map like butter on bread.

In standalone (SA), you just have to mind your inventory - when it reads "energized" and "hydrated", you're good for a while. Just pack some good stuff along, like re-fillable containers (liter bottle & canteen), and rice, cereals, or random cans of food. Too bad the texts will be removed, I indeed find it more immersive with the current very minimal hud (only text + when drawing / zeroing weapon) loot: If you play a few hours every day, it'll take you a week or 2 to encounter most of current loot drops. The only things that remain hard to find without camping large airfields, are full camo clothes, weapon attachments like mosin compensator, Magpull attachments for m4, 60 round magazines. What you need to survive, you'll find in every medium sized city. You can spend quite some time trying to interact with friendlies (good luck with that), finding the accuracy of the different weapons, trying to approach people undetected, ... Which to choose: If you like experimental gameplay, that can change with every release, and which you can influence/contribute to by posting suggestions & feedback, go for standalone. If you want a fleshed out game full of gear and vehicles, go for the mod.

Would you like spawn points spread out?
captainvette2112 replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
They have to force people into certain central areas to create action otherwise there would literally be NOTHING to do in this game. The map is simply too huge without any forms of transportation to have 40 players totally spread out. You would never see anyone and there isnt enough content yet for players to do anything meaningful expect PvP. Once they can get the server population up to 150+ and get vehicles in or create some game content that would drive players to areas organically ..... THEN they can randomize spawns all over the map -
Recently been getting worse FPS than in the past?
facoptere replied to randomgeneratedaccount's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Your RAM should be fine since arma2 uses only 2 MB. How many FPS do you have when you join a regular ArmA 2 multiplayer mission on the Chernarus map? Which dayzmod did you try? Vanilla DayZ or Epoch? FPS depends also on how many players/vehicles/loot are there on the server on the same time. You should try also to change some graphical parameters in the options. -

Looking for partner/group to play with
cjhouston replied to season's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
United Gamer Alliance is looking for people to join our group on the DayZ mod. We have been base building and collection loot, playing missions and using a lot of teamwork to make this mod fun. If you are looking for a group to help you and would like to join or for more information please visit United Gamer Alliance Must be at least 16 years or older and have/use a mic. A little information about UGA: - Have started constructing a base - Have many vehicles and plenty of weapons and ammo in-game - Play missions - Hold optional Game Nights at least twice per-week to get those who have busy schedules a way to schedule some DayZ game time. - All members are NA (for time zone reasons) - Have Teamspeak - Have a website that is mobile friendly - Have a server for the SA version of DayZ -
I know this topic has been done before, but I havn't seen one since standalone came out. So here's the question; what vehicles vould you like to see in SA. My personal list: -Bicycles (never understood the alure until I tried one. I sometimes just went on long rides to look at the scenery) Motorcycles/ATV's -Dirt Bikes (Paniers could be an optional attachment to get cargo space) -ATV's (with cargo rack and/or paniers for storage, and assuming they fix the abysmal off road handling they had in the mod) -Old moto (from Operation Arrowhead, or maybe a Ural motorcycle. Again with paniers and possibly a side car.) Cars/Trucks: I like the list I've seen so far of Ambulances, police cars, fire trucks (particularly if they come with a turret style fire hose), white off-road pickup (one of my favorites, aside from the glaring white color you can see from a mile off. So more color variety would be nice, and a few variants already exist in ArmA.) and hummers (which I really can't get excited about, but whatever.) In the case of ambulances and police cars, having predetermined loot tables for the trunk would also make sense. In addition I also would like to see; -UAZ (My absolute favorite car for its balance of speed and maneuverability, as well as its ample space for gear and passengers.) -Sedans (bring back the hatchbach, GAZ, etc. They weren't the best, but they got the job done. and it stands to reason that they would be the most common.) -Bettie Vans (they're delightfuly quirky, and there's nothing like seeing a group of hardened, camo clad survivors armed to the teeth rolling around in one.) -Ural truck (The holy grail of cars for large groups) -The Off-road (land-cruiser) truck (its right hand drive, burly, and I'll admit a soft spot for them, as it was my first car ever. Still love the Brown Beast.) Aircraft: Let me start by saying that I've had every aircraft in the mod. Choppers are fun (i particularly like the little bird with bench seats) but IMO they kill the game. They make it too easy to get from place to place, and door guns are way OP. From an immersion/realism standpoint they ruin it for me. Planes are, relatively speaking, fairly intuitive to fly. Helicopters are incredibly complex machines that anyone without training would more than likely crash outright. Which is funny, because planes in the mod (and most games) take more skill to fly and particularly to land, as well as requiring more careful selection of landing sites than helicopters. If heli's ever make it into standalone, I can live with that, but if they are left out I'd be much happier. So, my list; -AN-2 colt (I love this plane, even when I had a huey, I would usually take my colt, which I dubbed the Jade Valkyrie) -USEC Maul (A great little plane for small groups, easy to land off runway, and plenty quick.) -Amphibious plane (I have an addon for arma which adds Cessna Skywagons of many varieties, including a few with pontoons. They seat about 4, and the ability to land on solid ground and water would be a real game changer without breaking anything. Though with the addon trying to land on lakes caused the plane to explode, so that could be a good thing to fix.) -Gyrocopter or Ultralight (surprisingly common actually. Could be a single or double seater, slow and with liimited cargo space, but an option for solo or small groups.) While we're on the subject of aircraft; -Paracutes (would take the place of a backpack, limiting how much gear you could carry, and may fail if damaged. Would also need to be repacked after landing.) And lastly, Boats: Aside from how painfully slow they were, and the lack of anywhere to go in them, I like that boats were in the mod. With Skalisky now having loot and viability as a camp location and the prospect of Utes and fishing being added, boats make more sense than ever. But really, more speed, please. -Fishing boat (From the mod. For larger groups who haven't found a plane yet) -Small Boat (Again from the mod. For smaller groups) -Row boat (Small and fairly slow, but better than swimming. Could seat 4-6.) -Sailboat (I'm hesitant on this one, as I'm not sure how far the mechanics could go in the games engine. I'm thinking along the lines of a little daysailer which could seat 4-6 passengers, and function off a set wind direction, lets say from the south. It would require tacking to go some places, but you could do it quietly. I recognize that this suggestion comes from my opinion that there should be some stuff to do in the game that, while it may not be the most effective method, may be the best or only method at the time. As I said, I used to go on bike rides to enjoy the scenery. It's those peaceful little breaks you get sometimes in the struggle to survive -a campfire converstion with friends, a quick rest at the top of a hill with a great view of the sunset, or a convoy rolling back into the camp you've spent so long building, after a succesful outing- that really bring this game to life for me though. I could see adding a pleasant sail down the coast or to an island to that list.) Anyway, those are my thoughts so far. And sorry for the terrible spelling/grammar, it's late and I just don't care. Any other suggestions for vehicles, their associated attachments and/or mechanics?

I wish we were forced to interact with others to survive...
Whyherro123 replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
But there lies the rub. How do you make character's more valuable? Beards? Haha no. I believe that the only way you can make a character's life more valuable is through the addition of skills, both "born-in" skills, and skills that can be taught. If you spawn in, and you find out you have the "First Aid Skill", where you can apply bandages faster and lessen the chance of infection, your character has value. Therefore, bandit clans could recruit you to take care of their combatants. Or, you could be a "Mechanic", be able to fix vehicles faster or more effectively, etc. Then, there are skills that are learned, and can be taught. Firebuilding could be one, firearm usage could be another. With firearm usage, you improve the handling and accuracy of a weapon, UP TO THE WEAPONS LIMIT. For example, look at the World of Tanks MMO. Your starting crew usually starts at 50% efficiency, meaning your tank performs at 50% of the listed stats (accuracy, reload speed, accuracy, acceleration, etc). As you improve, your crew can get "better" (62%, 75%, etc.), until eventually your crew is at 100% efficiency, meaning they can use the full values of the tank characteristics. So, with an M4, you could start out with horrible rifle sway and range (emulating a lack of experience with the weapon), the progressing through use and experience to the weapon's baseline range and MOA. No sniper-rifle M4's, just the weapon performing as it was designed. Both of these skill-sets can in turn be taught to other players, giving them value and ensuring the skills will survive when the character dies. For example, a character with the "Surgery" talent (allowing them to set broken bones, stitch up wounds, prescribe drugs, etc. Just pulling stuff off the top of my head here. Maybe "Surgeon" should be an 'end-game" talent?) takes another survivor under his wing as an apprentice. By lending the Surgeon assistance, the apprentice slowly gains skill in the "Surgery skill", so that way when the Surgeon shits the bed for whatever reason, the community isn't entirely SOL. Then, bandit groups could raid communities for these "living commodities", they can be traded in between survivor colonies, etc. Anything that adds real value to a character is awesome. Anything that adds fake value, like beards, is not. A side note: why do you think people wouldn't shave? Being dirty all the time is a prime way to invite parasites to live on your body, a big no-no in long-term survival. discuss -
I dont think the pvp part will change in the future. When vehicles are added and you need spare parts like tires and such it will only get worse. The basic problem about this are the Zeds if you think about it. You dont need to Team up to get in and out alive. But maybe this will change when BIS fixed this problem.

Yes, and there's a difference between dictating gameplay and crafting an experience. We have no idea, somewhat misleadingly, what DayZ is intended to be. Because we've never had a finished product. Even with the mod, certain things just couldn't be done the way the developers intended (see zombies, vehicles, construction, etc.) That and the efficacy of CCP's approach is debatable at best. Emergent gameplay is certainly something worth pursuing, but a wholly unregulated experience isn't. Even something like EVE is very much a regulated experience, CCP is constantly tweaking the parameters in which players participate. Sometimes... people just don't know what's good, to be honest. And simply because something's popular and player-derived, doesn't make it beneficial or worthwhile. Case in point, the mod. People absolutely adored (and still do) detrimental things like sidechat. People migrated in droves to mods which resembled DayZ in name only, hemorrhaging players away from the vanilla mod. I'm all for player freedom, but the second you give the playerbase the capability to make something so different from the vanilla experience as to pervert the entire nature of DayZ, it becomes a concern of function rather than idealistic commitment to emergent gameplay.

1. Ban all cheaters that can see through the walls or where ever you are and have infinite ammo in 1 clip, it's kinda killing gameplay for others. 2. More spawn points across the map, the whole game is focused on get to NEA look for gear, if not, jump on another freshly restarted server and get back to Berezino to die from cheaters. 3. Optimize cities, I kinda have major fps collapse there :( while other games I play on max settings. 4. Start implementing vehicles if you're unable to do #2. 5. Read #1.

Would you like spawn points spread out?
mixmastajingles replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
It was obviously not an accurate measurement of time. Regardless, even an hour to get to a high loot spawn is over the top since some people have lives outside of Dayz. These lives most likely do not include you, with over a thousand posts on DayZ forums. I completely understand that loot should be difficult to get but even after running for an hour you are not guaranteed a single item. With vehicles in the game it wouldn't take more than 15 minutes to get to a specific area of the map(even a bicycle). -
[MAP SUGGESTION] Balota->Civilian Airport (+ Lumber Factory Idea)
yorkmorgan posted a topic in Suggestions
I love unique areas on the map, the ship, the tower blocks, the destroyed town, even that tiny scrapyard who's location I can never work out but that I always seem to stumble upon. It would be great to have some more so here's my suggestion for two new unique places: 1. Civilian Airport: IMO Balota is a big mistake. Putting all that military loot right on the coast was asking for trouble and was probably one of the main reasons the south coast spawns were scrapped, which again IMO was a shame. I also think that it just doesn't make sense, a large military airfield just minutes away from the local capital and within eyeshot of large residential towerblocks? It seems unlikely to me. And on top of that there are too many military areas on the map generally. So I suggest that Balota Military base becomes Balota Airport! Now a civilian airport right next to the local capital makes perfect sense and it would be an interesting location. It would not have to be anything fancy, a single building for checkin/checkout, a carpark, some civilian aircraft hangers, maybe a few storage buildings and obviously an airstrip. It would be a great place to find backpacks, police/security-guard gear and the carparks and hangers would be great place to find parts when vehicles are implemented. Here are some pictures of the kind of buildings I mean: Main Building: Civilian Hangers: 2. Lumber Factory EDIT: The 'lumbermill' in berezino doesn't really do justice to the whole abandoned factory in the woods thing im going for here so i'd still class this as a unique area. Its reasonable to assume from all the forests and small towns that this region would have a lumber industry. I think a large lumber factory would be a great location on the map. There is something magical about huge abandoned factories in a horror setting, and lumbermills in particular just seem to hit the right spot. In the game it would have great utility and would be the place to go for high quality base building tools and materials. As for the location, I suggest in the forest far up north that lies centrally on the horizontal axis, the one above Devils Castle and Gvodsno. As for the layout and design. I think the lumbermill from Twin Peaks would serve as a great model. Factory Layout: Workers Huts and Storage Building: Lumbermill: (these are from google earth and are of the actual twin peaks lumber factory) Thanks for reading, Thoughts and Opinions? -

Glad you enjoyed your experience. DayZ is amazing when you are first getting started and have no idea where everything is and what it does. When Arma 2: Combined Operations goes on sale you'd be doing yourself a favor by picking it up, the mod is a great way to get an idea of where the standalone is going to end up. Both the vanilla mod and the more popular DayZ Epoch have their own charm. Private hives do away with things like server hopping, ghosting and for the most part combat logging. Plus, vehicles/persistent storage really flesh the game out nicely in a way that hasn't been achieved in the alpha yet. Once the Standalone is closer to completion it'll surely be hard to compete with as for as zombie survival goes, but at the moment it sounds like you'd really enjoy the mod.

IP 69.162.82.10:2312 Active, fair, experienced, older admins AI on the West half of the map, No Ai on the East half. This is a PVP server. You can kill anyone anywhere. The traders have anti-theft & god mode. I set up this server so people will cross paths more, which means more fights. The problem with Napf map is it's so damn big. So I moved the hero and bandit trader to Emmen trader. The Ai are insanely difficult. There's 2 ai cities/arena and Ai missions with Ai vehicles, paratroopers, heli patrols, mounted RPGs and M2's. Most people seem to like this as a challenge. I added APCs and mini tanks to the traders. I blocked off most barracks around the map and made three new military loot spawns. So once the server fills up there will be plenty of pvp and more people crossing paths. Average player age is mid 20's, but it's a mixed crowd. JOIN US! All are welcome

Wow... really? I see you all have a great sense of humor. I'm glad I won't have to deal with ya ;) Save the slots for people that have a funny bone. If you didn't catch it, that was sarcasm. The Black Market will be a custom trading post run by the admin where you can purchase certain vehicles (for extremely high prices such as 100+ briefcases) for vehicles with armor and weapons. Examples being APCs both armed and unarmed. The Player Trading post is a building similar to the Lenzburg trader building that is meant as a neutral ground for players to sell their wares. Both are currently being worked on, the trader post is coming first (it can be accessed right now but we are still adding to the building) while the Black Market will take another week or so. -
good idea but ppl will have small camp tents and vehicles to use as strorage personal items in. in dayz mod We used to hide it somewhere in the trees and get coordinates of our position. even vehicles will be hidden in trees. well I won't feel safe to store some of my items in a safehouse that can be visited by my killers afterwards. so personally I'd keep stashing them somwhere only I (or my team) know. but also finding a key and following where it leads would be exciting. it may create a good experiance in dayz Imagine all snipers and some ppl camping around those safehouses. And this is interesting I also imagine myself one of them :)
-
Spread them out across the map. Who cares if we dont have vehicles. People are lazy. But yeah the berezino war sone is just plain stupid. Not against pvp but having 3/4 of the server in one city is silly. The rest of the map remains unused. All of your points are spot on.

Would you like spawn points spread out?
mixmastajingles replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
When the game releases vehicles so friends and clans can get to each other then de-centralize spawning. Keep it on a berezihno spawn until that point because there is no fun in running 6 hours to get a decent gear set. -
