In the survival-horror genre (which is what DayZ is failing at but that's besides the point), bolt-action rifles are cool as hell. The m107 is guaranteed 1-hit kill no matter where it hits a player/zombie to its maximum distance. It will 1-shot cars and helicopters. The Lapua (if I believe correctly? haven't played any MOD mods in a while!) is also a 1-hit kill no matter what, or at least 1 hit kill everything other than, say, feet and hands. It won't total vehicles in 1 hit (but will still damage most), and its rate of fire is no where near that of the semi-automatic. It's main advantage, however, is that it doesn't make nearly as much noise! Players will have to be closer to hear the gunshot sound and zombies have to be closer to aggro.

Same logic can be applied to helicopters. This is why I dont get why people are so against tanks yet are perfectly fine with adding helicopters and other air vehicles.

you never served in the military, did you? APCs are basically just a heavy truck engine with a armoured case over its chassi, They are not immune to bullets. Actually, one or two shots in two of its tires will disable it. They're as easy to drive and operate as an old truck or trailer. The only nasty thing about driving it is its weight, once you get speed, you wont be able to stop easy. APCs and even battle tanks are MUCH, MUCH more realistic to have than stupid choppers that require daily maintenance and years of learning to operate it. Yet there's a lot of people that want it on the game. People overreact too much about armoured vehicles, they wont be even near as gamebreaking as choppers. They're slow, the gunner is terribly exposed, you can shoot the tires out (or explode the treads with a grenade/IED) and a molotov upon it will make the crew burn to death in minutes. Choppers, on the other hand, make hiding in the woods or having a base with vehicles hidden somewhere pointless, as there will always be that no-life clan of trolls that will scan the entire map daily and destroy everything that they cant carry. The map itself is too small for air vehicles, and make the group that get their hands on a chopper be readily available in any place of the map in less than 5 minutes.

I really wish that there had been a much larger distinction between vanilla DayZ and heavily modified private hives and sub-mods as all of this was developed over the last two years. Yes, if you are in the know, you can search for official servers in DayZ commander, but I find that a vast majority of newcomers to DayZ have no idea of the differences between a vanilla public server, a vanilla private hive, and a modified private hive. I think that more people would be interested in playing the mod (especially people coming from SA) if there were more clear definitions and separation within utilities like DayZ commander. Most new players jump on 1,000,000+ vehicles/choppers/etc servers and think that that is how DayZ started.

Going away from Italy's military failures, I think armoured vehicles would be okay as long as they were a bitch to maintain/repair. Improvised armoured vehicles like bulldozers with steel bolted on would be amazing! Even just vehicle crafting would be amazing!

What? Nah, Im only thinking how Dean is. He wants authenticity. So Im guessing with the other vehicles being a pain to operate and maintain he will do the same for bikes. And as for the mod: My bikes tires would crumble if I hit a knee high wooden picket fence at 10kmh, one time. I dont know what super bikes you were finding man.. ;)

Sup all? We recently just opened a BRAND SPANKING NEW Epoch Panthera server. The server owner is Alexander (The man who made the Glock Icon for the actual MOD itself when you end up in combat) and we are all from the original Dayz Redux (if you dont know do your research!) We have added nearly ALL the FOB's (Barracks, refuel, rearm, etc) around the map (I believe there are 6-8 in all) and there are barracks EVERYWHERE! Features Include: GOD MODE Traders 50 + Barracks! Self bloodbag Towing/Lifting EASILY 500+ vehicles (We plan to militarize the server at some point) Plenty of Heli crashes (most are animated) Roaming Squads of AI TONS OF CUSTOM LOOT! Military Loot is pretty much all over the barracks...as in you will find rocket launchers to counter the helis that roam the skies. We are going to be adding AI missions and/or AI around the map at some point soon. We are literally hours into the server and we are looking for some great clans/lone wolves/bandits/heroes. There will also be donator packages and we will possibly be giving people basic building supplies to start your own base! Agree with OP 100% games with complexity and/or depth are the ones that stand the test of time. Look at BF2 and the way its balanced and reliant on a team effort to over come the fact the vehicles Are GODS in open terrain. Now look at BfBC2 and BF3 how quickly those dwindeled folllowing the same formula as every other shoother while BF2 still enjoys a devoted player base of dedicated vets. EVE Online is a shining example of what can happen when an MMO takes complexity to the extreme. Mnay many first time trails are put off by beying smacked in the face with an endless array of possibilities and options most of which require anything from weeks to years to even think of obtaining. 10+ years later it continues to enjoy a devoted and growing playerbase. -

Gameplay is still better. i never said Mod was perfect. infact it has some horednous exploits and security poblems. but survival is there in the need to carry food and drink. medical is there with blood bags, mor[hene and pain killers. and PvP is there with a varield selection if military firearms. Team play and clan Play is supported with effective vehicles with good cargo space and persistent storage in the form of tents. The SA seems intent on compleetely stepping away from that gameplay tho. they want to make simply existing so dam annoying and not only that, nerf/limit/water down all the fun stuff. it all was there and working. if its not broken dont fix it. All SA needed to do was performance optimize and secure against hackers/exploits and we'd have a golden expereince. instead they threw the mold out from the mod and tried to make something compleetley new. Mod Vets wanted a refined version of that experience, not a total departure. -
Oh yes, vehicles that are immune to bullets, have a gun on top, and can drive people over even without ammo i couldn't possibly see how this could be exploited in a weird way... i really don't think tanks would add to the gameplay, and i don't know if tanks are operable by an every-day-guy also, there is allready wasteland doing this, and when (or if) the moddability comes to DayZ, this sure will be possible with arma 2 tanks right now i would be glad if we had normal cars or bikes, and the running toned down a bit personally i would like to keep the survival feeling of dayz, and don't need to worry about carrying an RPG with AT ammo all the damn time because there is a tank rolling around in chernarus i guess a vodnik with tires you can shoot and without a gun would be okay, but full-on tanks.... meh

I'd only like tank like vehicles under two conditions. That you are able to shoot out the occupants, even if through extremely narrow slits, and that you are capable of disabling them without needing an AT missile. Not destroying, but disable. Say, throwing some grenades at the treads or if it has wheels being able to shoot them out. Ammo should also be incredibly rare for any sort of main cannon. Just something where it's not impossible to contend with one without an AT launcher, because I think then it just becomes extremely boring.

Tired of spawning in the middle of no where? Yup me too. Skalisty Island spawn area, needs to be removed its' worthless it's a long run to each town everyone hates it. Wilderness spawn between svetlojorsk and berezino is all right because there are 3 ideal hotspots in the area RARE Elektro / Cherno spawn areas are great highly sought after areas. Thoughts: Why do we only spawn on the eastern coast? Spawn us more inland players only tend to seek out Berezino for PVP which is fun, but at the same time why do y ou have such a huge map if players only go to 1 of like 6 locations? Without vehicles we need more varied spawns aroudn the entire game not just on the coast where there is absolutely no loot and players cycle servers jsut to get gear to go pvp. (idc if this has been said its fucking annoying running around all the time early access or not give us a damn old bike from mod and i'l lbe happy

1. Show me proof of this. (Hunting hackers).. Other than conjecture from his videos. What Frankie says doesn't count as evidence/proof. 2. How does one hunting hackers prove he's not a hacker? 3. There's substantial evidence/proof that he HAS hacked, if he doesn't anymore. 4. DayZ Mod moderator tools were essentially hacks.. If Frankie used these with permission of the admin to set up a scene I would not mind, but there's clear evidence of him using godmode, hacking his humanity, spawning in vehicles, and other things which clearly affect others who are not in on his video making.

Offsetting the existing Soldier and Medic styles with Engineers for fixing vehicles, Hunters and maybe Pilots would be awesome. If they added a basic agriculture system for picking flowers/herbs I could see an Herbalist type class/specialty as well. And I love the realism of the game so far, but the tricky thing is making it usable and not clunky. A few tweaks here and there and we'll be close. -

I want it to be much, much more difficult than the mod was.. I want to feel excited again when I survive a trip up North and back. And I still want to be able to get into as much pvp as possible while doing it. As long as its a huge learning curve, and they dont focus on trying to stop things like long range sniping, etc.. Then Im happy. They have already said that vehicles will be tough to maintain and get working, so that will be good. The mods had it close, but not enough.. it should be a huge pain to get a working car or vehicle of any kind. And an extremely rare gem to find one that maybe only needs gas, or a new battery. You should spend days finding parts, and working on your found truck. And as your bringing the last wheel you need back to it, you find someone else has taken it away.. all that hard work for nothing. Or.. you could go find it. :) Thats how DayZ should be. A pain in the ass, but each step enjoyable. -
Myth. I still play the VANILLA mod heavily. same mechanics apply. if you allow squadding/clanning to be OP thats what people do. EVERY server as a few clans on it. the inability to log out with your vehicle also means that the onyl way to maintain any security is ENSURE no one else has air vehicles. of course, this means any other large group will be scowering the map for your air vehicles. you cant ver well sit there 24/7 gurading them, and once one is stolen they easily find your other stuff. It's actually a very nice self-balancing system in the meta aspect. by playing as a clan you hoarde everything, which in turns causes small squads to band together to counter your being the OP force on the server. you seed the means of your own destruction. also the argument that this makes it impossible to make camps is moot because you dont need them. you dont even need good gear something to murder a guy and enough food drink for a long hike and you fan out doing a grid search for enemy base in suspected area. Infact, most of the clan/squad players from the MOD do want squad fights up north again. its the influx of new bloood coming from other non-Arma titles that want easy kills.

But there's no guarantee that there will be multiple teams fighting over them and a whole clan could just have all of them, or all the resources for them. It would divert some attention away from the coast yes, but only for a while. And also no sane solo KoSer would bother going up North if they were obviously going to get bombed so it encourages solo players or small groups to just dig in and enjoy ruining the game for coast spawns. I don't see how they could have vehicles not respawning completely work properly, if people left then they'd just be leaving this armoured up car or a tank for anyone to find so that just makes it even easier because it's already set up. Then there's helicopters too, finding the tanks would be both a piece of cake and take no time at all. Most KoS cowards aren't interested in fighting people who might actually kill them.

Vehicles and thier states persist thru restart (inluding cargo/fuel/etc) no reason your make shift work shop cant stay as well. Also unless you completely remove any means to kill other players you will not defeat KoSing. ever. the dayZ experience is all about the idea that each player is dropped into this world can can choose to do as he or she pleases, no matter rather thats for good or evil. That said raising the value and time invetment of end game vehicles and content shifts the motivation away from coastal deathmatch up north in the hunt for clan bases and vehicles. You will not stop KoSing by making vehicles crap. you will not stop KoSing by making weapons weaker. you can however make extremely "valuable" things that will keep clans/squads occupied and fighting eachother instead of camping on the coast. this is what choppers, chopper crashes, and mil loot did in the mod.
