    Vehicles: For or against them?

I would say YES to vehicles, but on this stage of the game i will have to say no. My interest lays more into the camping tents which have to be back and the other mainfixes. Even tho vehicles wouldn't be that bad, aslong as they will be rare (maybe 30-50 per hive/server) and that the fuel will have to be hard to get (not just drive to a gasstation and there you go). But oh well, as i mentioned earlier.. it's too early to even think about vehicles, let's first cross our fingers for more weapons, More glitch/bug fixes and maybe the camping tents? x)

    Vehicles: For or against them?

    Yeah I need vehicles

    Hobo Bike crafting

Excellent! Hobo Bikes all the way!! I hope to see character interaction like that though with vehicles. It would be sweet to be able to put small packs, water, etc like shown on the first & second pictures. I find that it would also be neat to be able to attach things like bedrolls, pots & pans on the outside of your backpack eventually, giving rope a dual purpose!
  4. Since the last thread where I made this comment got its discussion derailed by a troll, Ill leave this here in the hopes of further intelligent debate: Personally, I think vehicles should either be non existent, extremely rare, or so complex as to require a large amount of team effort (several people working together, not just 2 or three). I think they just make the game too easy. You don't have to "travel" anymore. No need to plan your route, worry about food or water for the trip (currently not a huge concern, but "alpha"),infiltrate, observe, loot, then leave, retreat to the tree line, and wipe the sweat off your brow. Now, we can just hop in the sedan and drive real fast down the road. Stop at the first town we happen to see. All the doors closed? Good. Loot loot loot. Drop everything into the trunk. Now on to the next...Which leads to the problem that entire servers will end up looted dry in a matter of an hour or two by 2 guys and a truck. Honestly, I would rather there not be any vehicles. Bicycles, I think, would not be too bad. But that's where I draw the line. Thoughts?

    Bicycle Suggestions/Discussion [Official]

Most definitely, OP. Bicycles need to be the first vehicles that they implement prior to vehicle patches. And they need to be EVERYWHERE. MOAR, MOAAAR!!!! *Insert Zoidberg Voice*
  6. crazykage

    Wow

LOL. I just see a bunch of white bars. Is he STILL at it? Anyway, back to something I was going to bring up before: I wonder that nobody had any comments about what I said concerning vehicles back on page one. Anybody?
  7. Awruk

    Bicycle Suggestions/Discussion [Official]

rare bicycles + rare cars + rare helicopters + rare trains + 150 player servers = common vehicles in general
  8. Mos1ey

    Bicycle Suggestions/Discussion [Official]

Even once vehicles are implemented I think bicycles will be pretty rare. I'd get used to walking if I were you. xD
  9. crazykage

    Wow

I agree. Personally, I think vehicles should either be non existent, extremely rare, or so complex as to require a large amount of team effort. Now on to the next... Further more, cars make the map too small. I can already cross the entire map, from end to end in a fairly short time. As far as the perks for donators goes, I kinda understand that one. Server owners have to give some kind of incentive to players to be willing to donate, and thus keep the server operational. They put a lot of effort into organizing events, private community websites, etc. I would know. Ran a BF3 platoon of just over 100 members. Took up a lot of spare time, and that was nothing compared to what some of these private communities require in terms of maintenance. Without that incentive, they either end up FORCING members to pay or leave (they usually just leave), or rely on donations that never come. In which case the bills don't get paid, the community dies, and all the effort goes down the drain.
  10. Really Old Man

    Wow

Honestly, I don't want private servers like they have in the mod. Those ruined the mod. 1000 vehicles, military grade loot, perks for donating money, etc etc are just horrible. I'm quite content with the way servers are atm. I'd be fine with a little more server owner control, but nothing like the mod. The server hopping and combat logging need to become really hard to do though.

  12. Wish people stop askin for vehicles its stupid they are gonna be a looong ways off before they get to that point so asking now is plain dumb.
  13. The_Gunisher

    Goal? What goal?

Personally I am playing the game at the mo, but I'm not giving alot of time to it because I see that it has too many features missing. I don't mind this, I knew it was an alpha and I knew I'd have to wait a while more, but I just like seeing the game as it develops and that I contributed from the get go. I'll be playing it more in future when they sort out server issues as well as getting vehicles into the game. I'm hoping it will develop into a game I like, it may not. But I think Barbarosa1955 you're judging the game essentially at the moment as a skeleton with a few signposts of things to come. It's not broken or anything else others have been saying. What it is, is unfinished.
  14. Hire the team at BeamNG to start creating vehicles for dayz. Then purchase some of the other Havok products to upgrade the physics in the game. http://www.havok.com/products Loot and Spawning of Items Instead of randomly spawning individual items all over the map, Create objects that can be searched, such as cupboards, trashcans, bins, dumpsters, lockers, crates, boxes, weapon lockers, tool kits, and have items randomly spawned inside of "said containers" based on the area found and type of container being searched That way instead of starting a server with all items already spawned in, "bullets on the floor, that nobody can see, thousands of rotten kiwi on every kitchen floor, the items do not "appear" until the "crate is searched". This will eliminate the whole "loot" problem, of things floating and such, and objects in grocery store and lockers can now instead be searched to have a mathematical chance of finding items relative to location. There is some serious talent out there that can be had to help you improve dayz, and now that you've made some money perhaps you should start hiring them.
  15. Ehem... I play on 3PP servers. I would love to see 3PP go away. That is not deceptive. Because I play on 3PP servers I actually have experience with all the exploits. Because I also play on 1PP servers I also know just how the game plays with the removal of those exploits. I can, from there, make an intelligent decision based off of experience and say that 3PP servers are worse than 1PP because of said exploits and it should, at the very least, be corrected in a manner that removes those exploits. Why do I play on 3PP servers? Well, because when I want to play say... an Epoch Dayz:Mod server without self-bloodbag/1,000 vehicles/trader safe zones on Taviana I can find exactly 0 1PP servers, but I can find a 3PP server. They ran out of cake and my options between "Cake or Death" is "...or Death". So I play on 3PP servers. If I get a little less extreme and accept AI missions and more vehicles on Chernarus I can find maybe 3 1PP servers but the pings are rather high for all of them. So again my option is "...or Death". So what do I do? I play on 3PP servers and deal with it. Basically having the option means there IS no other option for many of us. Maybe it would be nice if the other side of the coin was excluded a tiny bit for once, or they fixed the exploits so I didn't HAVE to play in 3rd person constantly to not be at a huge disadvantage since I can't seem to NOT play on a 3PP server.

What DayZ also needs to be even more realistic?

I won't argue about the feasibility of training a bird, but it still involves training several times a week for years to accomplish. It's not like the bird will learn from you reading a book. It is too complicated to implement, and even unmanned aerial combat vehicles would be more feasible from a resource perspective in the apocalypse. Your dog will catch a stick and bark at strangers with little or no training at all.
  17. vanilla dayz mod, you can not. There is a mod of the mod Origins, There is some ability to armor vehicles. Epoch has some ability to add weapons to some vehicles.

Two Questions before buying the game

    1) you should expect tons of hackers at this stage. I wouldnt worry about it 2) no vehicles/bases yet, thats the first thing. you can play in 2 hrs chunks BUT... I think your expectations are a bit wrong - you dont achieve anything in DayZ. You just survive or die. eventually you can get some gear which you are gonna lose sooner or later. this game IS about dying, man. embrace it :)
  19. You can not make armored vehicles in DayZ mod. Moved to mod forum.

    Why ARMA Engine?

Don't you get that noone cares about your esoteric ways of pulling Dayz ears into the MMO sector. MMO - is MASSIVELY, 40 is not massively. None of the game MULTIPLY the amount of people on different servers, otherwise Dota 2 and Counter Strike would be the biggest MMOS out there. The fact that you so easily say "AH BATTLEFIELD IS NOT MMO DON"T BULLSHIT ME" ofc it's not and DAYZ NOT AS WELL. It's NOT an MMO, it has 40 players. When I log off there are map which gets resetted every 3 hours. Even ARMA II Dayz mod is more like an MMO because it has vehicles and tents which try to be there. GOD even DAYZ ORIGINS is more MMO than DayZ Stanadlone - you can build houses in DayZ Origins, you have world that changes and saves it's state(not gets resetted every 3 hours), you have 70 to 80 people in DayZ Origins. I can't get my money back. Steam does not allow me to. If I could I would have done this already and continued to play DayZ Origins or DayZero.

    A few ideas

List of things that I feel this game needs either implemented or changed; HOSTAGES When you have been handcuffed you have 3 options; - Wriggle out until you're free - Wait until your captor lets you go/kills you - Log out and kill yourself (which leads to you losing all your gear) When you become restrained people just fuck with you until you die from bleach poisoning, throwing up all your insides or your captors just become bored and end you. To deal with the torment, people just log out and kill themselves. The 'insta-death' solution to captivity-loggers doesn't work at all, as the whole point of it is to keep restrained players restrained, and many players would rather lose all their gear than be tortured. This kind of defeats the point of being able to take hostages. Whats the point of taking the risk to get close to another player (a possible threat) and handcuff them if they're just not going to give two fucks otherwise and log off immediately. It would be quicker and a lot safer just to shoot them. Plus, if you're a Hero restraining bandits, it gives them a faster way of breaking free. I propose perma-captivity. This means that a player stays restrained until they either break free of the restraints themselves, or are executed. Logging out causes a players character to stay in the game until they are freed or killed. At this time, captors can do whatever they want to a captives character: Move them, transport them, loot them, kill them, it doesn't matter. Server hopping should definitely be removed for this to work effectively, and while I don't mind server hopping too much, I despise players who escape my restraints by logging out. Players want a hardcore, post-apocalyptic, zombie survival FPS - this is a mechanic to suit. This should be implemented if player housing is going to be a thing. Slave dungeons and bandit prisons, I'm all up for. My outfit and I used to play Origins, and everyone knows that if you have a decent group of players, or if you put enough effort into making a house, you aren't going to leave that server any time soon. This removes the detachment that people have for their current DayZ survivors, as they are more inclined to care about the effort that they went through for attaining materials and crafting recipes for the houses. Simply switching server would give you a brand new character, which reiterates the 'logging out and starting fresh' approach to escaping the bonds. But that player also has a house that isn't on this new server, their own personalised abode is no longer with them, and they'll have to go through all that effort to start anew. FIRING FROM VEHICLES Should definitely be a thing. Sure it seems OP if you have a group of 6 guys packed into the 4 seater Hilux with two in the tray. But of course you'd have the balancing effect of rough terrain and inertia throwing off a players aim similar to (or even greater than) the way strafing does. Three extra points; an occupant can only have a specific firing angle from inside the car. They're more protected sure, but it's limited to an open window. They can open passenger windows or the windscreens (front and back) by shooting it out which will give them a greater firing angle, but also reduce their protection, and create the chance for them to actually damage the car from the inside out. Having the ability to create damage to the hull of the car by an occupants inability to analyse his firing angle or judge the terrain a driver is traversing will have a negative effect on the vehicle, thus creating another thing to be cautious of. Shooting to break windows open will require new windscreen parts to be attached. To negate the above two effects, a passenger can 'turn out' and be exposed to a greater range of enemy fire, but also extend their firing angle simultaneously. Their aim is still affected by inertia etc. and will still be able to shoot the vehicle they're in by accident, and even have the chance to kill another passenger who also decides to turn out. A driver should have the ability to fire a weapon, but only as small as a PDW or similar sidearm with a highly limited focus on either firing angles, or multi-tasking (i.e. have a limited amount of car control while leaning out of the vehicle etc). BURIED CACHES & PUMP SHOTTY I've heard something about buried stashes being implemented, but do not know much on the details so I'm proposing how I feel they should behave. Once again, a DayZ Origins story, but we collected a few of those weapon crate/lockbox things and scattered them around the map, filling them with random but useful gear that we may have needed to utilise in a time of crises. One gripe we had about them was that they were too obvious, and stuff would sometimes go missing even though we dumped a large amount of thought into placing them and concealing them. I wish for these same types of lockboxes, that can be placed both above ground and buried. While buried, the ground would look disturbed on top of their location, but would work as concealment enough that a player would not recognise it if they weren't particularly searching for them. Last but not least: please add the Mossberg or 870, pretty pleeeeeaaassseee?? I've always liked the pump action shotty in many of my zombie games, but DayZ was the only game in which I've never been fond of them. Why? Because you Never. Racked. The. Slide. It's probably the most badass thing about the pump action shotty. Not only that, but it's probably viewed as the number one zombie fighting weapon. It was the same problem with Lee Enfields and Mosins that were used in the mods. They felt so awkward to use, even though the round from them almost always killed you, and if it didn't it knocked you out. Now that the bolt action rifles have the bolt pulling animation, I feel like a fucking pro using them, and there's the placebo effect of the gun feeling so much more solid. So please, if you give me at least one of my pump shotty's with an awesome pump animation, I will rack off to this game for the rest of my life. cwutididthar

    Why ARMA Engine?

Yea, the clunkiness of the engine turns a surprising amount of people off. But the smoothness of the character movements and animations now have slightly improved that. However full judgment on whether the devs have managed to un-robotify the engine will be passed once more updates are released and vehicles come into play.
  24. Well, yes and no. I'm certainly not ignorant as to why you might suggest such a thing, insofar as you might think James Byrd or those like him have been the only people to be dragged by vehicles until death. I must confess to some degree of ignorance about how you decided that those are the only people who have ever been killed in this manner, or that "dragging to death by vehicle" is somehow a tactic used only in the commission of hate crimes when, in fact, lots of people have died this way. I mean, MLK was shot by a gun. Does that mean everyone in the game who uses guns to kill people is a racist? In summary: I genuinely don't appreciate being called a racist. I've been trying to stay civil as often as possible on these forums, but under the circumstances I think it's perfectly reasonable for me to tell you to go fuck yourself, douchebag.
  25. waffen-79

    Whats wrong with server hopping?

First of all dont get attached to your Gear. And what determines sever hopping? By that logic, there should not be a HIVE Yeah, maybe you would be happier if DayZ were only played survival purists, but is not, and by the way I'm not an idiot cod kid. I bought original Operation Flashpoint in 2001 and all the Arma series and have an account on the BI Forums since 2002. And I know the engine limitations and it doesnt look good, but I got the game none the less and so did my squad. Listen I get you, really I do, but you want to play by the book and impose that style to the community, you just have to accept all the KOS is because the survival, camps, crafting and vehicles are not yet implemented. There is nothing else besides combat worth doing at the moment.
