    Player Heli Crashes

This suggestion is only relevant if helicopters/other aircraft vehicles and helicopter crash sites will be implemented into the game. Let's say you found a helicopter in DayZ standalone, you load your gear and other valuables into it to save room, you take off. But "uh oh!", you've a novice pilot - you've never flown before! Oh well, "How hard can it be?". You take-off smoothly, you remember from those videos you've watched that auto hover is your best friend. You get to that perfect altitude and are ready to begin your journey, so, you turn auto hover off and tip the heli forward. "Whoops!" you've tipped too much, better pull back! "Uh-oh!", you've pulled back too much as well. You're beginning to panic! You struggle, pressing all sorts of keys trying to straighten out, by the time you scroll wheel over auto hover; BOOM! "You are dead". Now what happens to that heli? It is now a helicopter crash site, the gear that was in your helicopter is laid out on the ground for scavengers to loot.
  2. We've got a smooth server running off a SSD on a dedibox hosted in France with a low ping. Our regulars prefer the classic elements of DayZ but enjoy a balance between human threat, better survival elements and the danger of NPCs. Feel free to join our teamspeak. Server IP: 109.236.89.121:2334 Teamspeak IP: ukss.eu - get up to date with the latest Steam beta - add -mod=@DayzOverwatch;@dayz_epoch to your launch parameters in DayZ Commander - add our IP to the favourites tab or just filter for UKSS Better Survival Feel - Loot amounts more like the Mod Less fuel containers, most likely one to find is an empty Jerry Less maps, tinned drinks & food More unlabeled cans, empty water bottles Less chance of high-grade toolbelt items, especially away from barracks Higher chance of infection from self-bloodbag, plus option to consume bloodbag as last resort - Rarer weapons & items you either can't get from traders or are high-priced, stopping everyone getting them easily - Vehicles almost always need repairing or refuelling before going anywhere - Loadout is simply just one bandage and your own butt - Zombies can knock you down to the floor (like in DayZ Mod) - Nuclear detonation once every restart - Radiation zone caused by the nuke, has health consequences - No safezones, auto-refuel, donator perks, admin's little helpers, admin abuse, whining and no handouts Add all this together and you actually fear dying, fear the elements, fear other players more, desire what they may have more and it takes a while to get around the map. We have other features too which are always being balanced towards both challenging and fun, and away from overpowered and boring. It's still meant to be DayZ on our server. There are ways of stumbling across higher-end vehicles & items, but you'd have to work, search and use your brains. Base building is always encouraged, we have some creative players already. Other Features - Custom anti-hacks - Custom debug - 3 hours day, 2 hours night every server restart - Around 400 vehicles - Plot poles cost 1 briefcase, have 60m range and do not require replacing after death - Respectable map edit, no extra barracks or other high-end loot areas. Added a few more discreet base opportunities. - Six extra freshspawn locations (below Worb, near Ey, south-east of Emmen, some deep in the forest) - Nuclear detonations, 66% chance of a random nuke at one of 12 unlikely "base" locations on the map. One per restart, has various consequences - Custom traders - Dynamic traders - Gem traders (who sell endgame vehicles & aircraft for extortionate amounts) - Tough DZMS-based missions system using 16 missions in 300 custom locations (incl. city, rural and military area) with customized objectives & loot - These Mission AI have brains. They will flank in groups, hide in bushes, use smokes & frags, steal nearby cars, patrol and use the gunner seats on armed vehicles - Static turrets at the biggest missions - Lift most unlocked, unarmed road vehicles with Merlin, Mi-17s or the Chinook - Modded version of Snap Building Pro - Elevator crafting - Self bloodbag or consume bloodbag - Four land vehicle NPC patrols, literally can be any unarmed vehicle, driving curiously, anywhere on the map. Up to 4 random-skill NPCs inside - Two NPC helicopter patrols (random choice from Huey, Seahawk, Chinook, Bell Gunship, Mi-17, Venom) - Moderate amount of guard NPCs at military bases - No roaming foot patrols - Take clothes from bodies - Deploy bike or motorbike - Bigger list of items & vehicles at traders - Custom spawn list, includes bell gunship, jackal, hmmwv armored, others - Surrender enabled - Build on roads enabled - Hookah pipes Rules - No glitching / duping / feeble hack attempts - No constant moaning - No building in trader areas - Bring charm, we like charm Thanks for reading
  3. I can tell you guys from experience in playing in "Safe Zones" on servers that have them in the DayZ:Mod that they don't do what you think they would do. Rarely do you see the benefits you guys speak of. Player interaction in Safe Zones are basically eyeing each other warily and running like crazy as you leave/enter the zone so you don't get shot on the edge. People harass you knowing you can't do anything to them. I've had them literally have two players stand in the only entryway into or out of a safe zone and prevent anyone from leaving, while one of them "Rick Rolled" us in Direct. I've had pre-teen voiced players beg and try and steal things from vehicles and packs. "C'mon can't you give me a gun? I won't shoot you with it. Please? I just spawned and I couldn't find one." One of them had the balls to try and trade us something he had just stolen from a friend that he didn't know was with us for a gun. I think it was an ammo belt. Safe Zones do NOT change the nature of the game, players do.
  4. That is your opinion of what should and shouldn't exist in a simulator. The game supposedly being a simulator(simulates real life) there SHOULD be a safe zone(barter town). The bottom line is, we need more incentive to play the game other than to be a dick and kill people who are unaware of your presence. I don't even have 100 hours in the game yet but I am already starting to get a little bored because once you gear up, you can't even interact with 99% of the people you see because of the kill or be killed mentality that is going around. If you want to camp the entrance/exit of the area, you go right ahead but that is where having vehicles would really come in handy. You could attempt to make a safe getaway a lot easier with a vehicle than on foot and you could also pay other players to give you a ride in their vehicles and drop you off somewhere outside of the hot zone. If you think about it, there are tons of ways to implement a safe zone and still leave something for the KOSers to do. They could also have vehicles and chase you down and steal your vehicle. All of this provides new types of gameplay and a more interesting time for everyone.
  5. Laughed pretty hard at that one. Vehicles will add so much to the equation in SA. New players - be afraid - be very afraid.

    addition of tents.

Ohhh yeah. The dreaded Kamenka spawn before you could choose locations. That was always a laugher because smart players always had a small base camp near it on the Western border. As you said it was an opportunity to gear up quickly at little risk. Will always remember when our group of 3 ran the Western border and hit a massive camp that literally had every weapon in the game. 6 vehicles and a rocket launcher man. Rarest of the rare. Never did get a chance to fire it in anger though. <sad face> Good times.

    Chris Torchia Interview

Also starting ppl with the best vehicles period would be just retarded. Giving everyone vehicles with LMGs attached to the back wouldnt be a good idea lol.
  9. Hopefully when the big hordes of zombies are implemented into cities it will stop the bambi fighting rings in the big cities. Can't wait to run over pants less bambis with a car when vehicles are implemented :)

  11. In the mod you could pick up and carry car engines and heli rotors and it would effect your stamina the more you carry. I was wondering with the SA being so much more geared towards realism and authenticity, to a point of course how repairing vehicles will work. Will we be able to just put an engine in our inventory? I somehow doubt it. My idea was having wheel barrows and hand carts that we can pull around. They can be somewhat common having multiple types of carts that fit different locations. So if we find a spare part that weighs 150lbs we can maybe have the option to cover it with brush to stash it, or just mark it on our maps and hope it's still there when you arrive an hour later with a cart. I personally want this mechanic to make sense and be somewhat realistic, and am very curious to see how it finally ends up working. So what do you guys think the best way of going about this would be, while trying to have it make sense and not seem ridiculous like putting a heli rotor in your pants.

    Shopping cart/trolley!

We should have shopping carts / trolleys... Imaging the crafting possibilities! Tasty steaks! Bases! Vehicles! Or just basic..carry your gear like a hobo! Lets make it happen! :P
  13. More news, expect these types of vehicles; OH, and don't worry about speed. It reaches 97Km/h, and goes down to 25Km/h off-road. For more info like this PM me.
  14. This^^^^^^ Private hives will come and then you can have your DayZ epoch BS where you spawn in with BFG and a ten inch black dildo of pwnage.. oh, and one minute in from shore, awaiting YOU is... A BRAND NEW CAR!!! WHOO HOO YAY!!! ...I LOVE all the wonderful private servers that the mod has now... oh, it's so much fun to have to wade through lists of [100000000+ Vehicles! 2,000,000,000 ARMY TENTS and a "SWEET FUCK ALL" initial loadout!!!!] just to find that one lonely server that starts you with a bandage and some flares... Edit: Like poster I quoted said... server homes will be made more apparent once tents make their way onto the scene
  15. That's why the devs should introduce more punishing fatigue mechanics to go alongside the introduction of vehicles. While marching is still the only mode of transport, I can live with the ability to run everywhere all the time, in order to keep the game interesting; but once we do have vehicles, then it'll be time to ditch the unrealistic iron-man nonsense and force people to choose between walking and exhaustion if they want to travel around on foot.
  16. Nice to see someone else on here still playing the mod. Nice vidoes overall so far. I recommend playing on the "DreadZ" Private hive. Its vanilla, (No self BBs, Spawn with gun/gear, ect) but all the vehicle spawns are turned on, so theres around 70 vehicles. Although theres a constant 15-25 people on, its relatively untouched - i found a legit spawn SUV in its legit location, actually drivable. I've also seen two helicopters, one of which was piloted by now-banned hackers (But was stolen from a legit player) one of which i killed :D. Its also great for base hunting. I've found a few, especially in random areas. Skalka and NEAF are empty. But anyway, if you are still going by the "Me surviving" of your first video, i recommend playing on this server. Just be aware, alot of the players are friendly and will probably hunt you down. How to find: Search "DreadZ" in DayZ commander.
  17. Okey, people, after doing some moves, I found a civilian vehicle in DayZ (It wasn't in the original Arma 3 vehicles list) but it has some "optimization problems": Other vehicles work just fine;

[Day Z: Standalone] Controller Default Layout

I'll most likely be using my gamepad controller or my joystick when the eventual day that vehicles/aircraft get ingame. Haven't tried it yet with the current build.. might have to play around with it for the heck of it and see what comes of it.
  19. Karmaterror

What do you imagine DayZ camps to look like?

This may make some of the base builders amongst us shed a tear in memory... Remember that epic camp you had (we all had one at some point), you know the one. Few really good camo vehicles, good few tents, maybe some wire fence or sandbags for asthetics....your own little sanctuary in the harsh world of Chernarus..... Now remember when you logged in and there was NOTHING THERE lol, sometimes hundreds of hours work that you know was destroyed in seconds.....iv heard more rage on TS when iv announced that our camp has fallen, than over any act in any computer game. I really hope they put a lot of focus on bases when they get past the performance issues. We need those moments in SA! :)

What do you imagine DayZ camps to look like?

Yeah, the storage is going to be the main reason and also once vehicles are in the game it would provide a safe place to park them without having to worry too much about people jacking them or scavenging parts. My favorite part would be sitting back and admiring the camp I made with my friends.

Not sure why KoS is an issue.

OP, thank you. you clearly expressed your opinion and views on the matter in a way that was logical and respectful. A rarity around here. I especially like how you respect other play styles that you disagree with by seeing the merits or understanding the other viewpoint, while adhering to your own. Very mature, with a strong sense of integrity. To answer your question, KoS IS and IS NOT an issue. Right now, it does get out of hand sometimes. I KoS occasionally, but primarily from a lack of anything better to do. I have played the helpful/friendly/hero/whatever route, and had fun with it. But I have ALSO found it to be highly disappointing at times (help a bambi gear up by giving him a backpack full of food and suggest he go north, but he just says hes gonna go to balota to find a gun. Mind you, this was on a hi pop server where balota was likely already cleaned out and full of bandits. My efforts were wasted on him. Just one example). Sometimes I like to find a really nice hunters hide (high ground, top of building, deer stand, whatever), scout it out, plan escape routes, take practice shoots to find the range, then come back later and wait. A player shows up, comes within my zone, and I kill him. Sounds empty and uncomplicated. Maybe even trollish at first glance. But for me, its not about the kill. Its the whole ritual of the hunt. Pitting my wits against that of another HUMAN BEING in a life or death struggle that both parties get to walk away from un harmed. The adrenaline rush of knowing that this person is just as capable of outwitting me, becoming the hunter, not wanting to miss the shot for fear of failure, and the ecstasy of successfully defeating my opponent, or the possibility of defeat (which would mean the potential for growth, improvement, and further challenge). I have said all this before, and caught a LOT of flack for it. But what a lot of people fail to realize, is that I don't do this all the time. I have KoSed another player a grand total of FIVE times. First two were hunts, the third was a poorly geared player running straight at me that may or may not have intended harm, the 4th was a server hopper that dropped into the shower room of a barracks RIGHT NEXT TO ME, and the last was another hunting kill. Any other player kills were the results of combat I did not initiate. Eventually, the game will have more items, concepts implemented, greater threats from the zombies, base building, vehicles, etc. ALL of these things will become tools that players can use in friendly interactions that will make those interactions more numerous, more varied, and more interesting. Right now, we just don't have many "tools" to work with. So some people, myself included, turn to other thrills. Which themselves get boring and tiresome after a while. There is much more coming to this game. It hasn't been out in a playable state for even 3 months yet. We all just need to give it time.

    100 Slot Server

I'm sure when they'll add in vehicles, additional zombies and loot respawning, it's going to feel like entirely a whole new game. Now I wonder if the experimental branch has any zombies on it?
  23. crazykage

What do you imagine DayZ camps to look like?

Cool picture! Did u make or find? I fully condone KoS, and do it myself from time to time. Problem is that player interaction is limited by how much we can actually do together or for each other. I want to see more of it, but as it is, its difficult due to limitations which force us to have only a few options, which get boring over time, leaving us (me) with a desire for something different (in this example, KoS). Naturally, some will disagree, which is fine. But when the game is a full release, and we have private hive communities that enforce roleplay rules in which KoS is only allowed when it is relevant to the roleplay, THIS picture is where I see this game going eventually. Players will have to work together, form a community, repair vehicles for transportation of manpower and material, gathering tools, lumber, generators for those lights, fuel for those generators and vehicles, tents, barricades, etc. I am already thoroughly enjoying the game. But its nothing compared to what it will eventually become, I think. And this picture is a perfect image of my hopeful imagination of that eventual outcome. I would give you beans, OP, but I cant give out anymore today, it seems...
  24. I don't want vehicles or any special base building just yet. At this point I'm most interested in seeing loot spawn locations fixed, respawning loot, hunting, sickness, cooking, player temperature, and stronger need for resting. Basically the core survival elements. After that, zombie pathing, more zombies, and respawning zombies! :P
  25. would be very nice to see. if crafting and base building was in the game right now and vehicles it would be a perfect reason to go exploring and give yourself a goal.
