facepalm, shhhh gestures. Bows, poisoned dart, vehicles in the next 6 months, etc. etc. etc. How can people actually get mad and complain about this game. SERIOUSLY?! Within 6 months this game will already be better than the mod, AND IT STILL WONT EVEN BE IN BETA! God I love this game. I CANT WAIT to uber skill shot someone with a bow, then slowly walk up to their corpse and go "shhhhh"....... and I thought I loved to go hunting in this game before..... -

The game you are playing is the Mod, made for ArmA2. The other one is a standablone game based upon the mod, but developed on its own, by the guy who invented the mod and the studio who made the ArmA series. The Standalone is currently in alpha. You might encounter game breaking bugs (which means you might literally be unable to play the game for days) and other annoyances. It is nothing more than a testing phase, you can participate in if you preorder the game. The Standalone has lot less content than the mod (eg: no vehicles, no bases, fewer weapons), but new content is added on a regular basis. I've never played the mod, I guess the mod has more to offer right now, if you are simply interested in playing a game. -

Is there anything being planned that incentivizes not shooting on sight?

"Make it so that they can't be killed unless you get them in the head": Silly and unrealistic. Even zombies who are alive because the virus causes some sort of cellular regeneration would still be blown to bits by enough bullets sprayed at their torso. This is not the direction DayZ should take at all; the zombie virus manifestation should be more realistic than "disease which magically makes your whole body immune to harm except your head" No, instead zombies should have greatly increased stamina [being dead, zombies don't feel pain and so push their zombie bodies beyond the limit] and the player pathetic stamina [not at the moment while there are no vehicles].Players can run at a decent speed until their inventory starts getting full with heavy cans, at which point they become slow meatsacks easily outran by ravenous zombies. This means you dump everything, or learn to ACTUALLY EVADE ZOMBIES. It also gives bambis more of a chance, because they retain the ability to outrun zombies we enjoy so much now; but it only works for so far before even a player carrying nothing will have to slow to a walk, and somehow deal with the mob he gathered while sprinting through Kamywobo. Also gunshots should literally attract zombies from a kilometre or two in every direction, and same with vehicles. Zombies need to be more effective hunters to pose a threat, and you shouldn't just be able to sprint through towns fearlessly. A sniper waiting for players will be mostly safe, but if he's camping at a spawn location and KoSing, he's going to attract zombie reckoning. Zombies' strength should be in stamina, numbers and sensory awareness. -
Hello everyone. about a week ago a purchased a bunch of new parts for my pc so i could play dayz on nice settings,but sadly i can mostly get like 10 fps on panthera servers and i maybe just hit 30 fps on a map like chernarus does anyone now how this can be solved ? my rig: amd fx 8320 (stock) gtx 770 gainward phanton (overclocked a little bit) 8gb 1333mhz ram 750 watt power supply i play at a resolution of 1920x1200 (even when i disabled aa and turned everything to normal it still lagged really bad) i use the latest drivers (including beta drivers) and my windows is up to date one thing that caught my eye was that my videocard wasn't going to 90+ % use when playing dayz it head some peaks to like 75/80% but it was mostly only using 20/30 % also,when in vehicles my fps sky rockets to like 40+ but when i go on foot it drops to 15/10 can anyone help me ?

My idea, holding caps = shout. Microphone is always on whisper. No more talking about betraying that guy you're standing right beside over your third party program. He'll hear it same as if you were talking into a radio. At least then people cannot telepathically communicate and people may actually use radios as they are a little less of a disadvantage, and handy to have if a skype call disconnects or something. Walls softening voices and stuff = awesome BTW. Also, sound reverberating (being in a small room with someone makes them slightly louder than they would be outside). And, megaphones (possibly a police PA system in vehicles as stock in police cars or further customisation in future). Radios need to pick up environmental sound, earplugs/ muffs to either use when shooting louder weapons (especially indoors) to avoid temporary ear ringing noises. Duct tape to muffle a persons voice (they might be saying, run it's a trap, but all you hear is "mmm mibt er truub" many funny confrontations to be had. That's all I can think of / remember from others along the lines of sound at the moment.

You guys must be new. All great ideas. Will never happen. Bohemia games never change much from ALPHA to BETA to full release. What you have now is about what you'll get plus more zombies, vehicles and some form of base building. All the cool little polish features you guys are mentioning will never come. Sorry. Take it from me and the other long time ARMA fans.

Well in the Mod, there were a lot of vehicles that spawned in this area.. 1. White Offroad west of Zelly 2. Military Offroad at Green Mountain 3. Another White Offroad near Myshkino 4. A hatchback North of Myshkino It also had a lot of good areas to set up tents, that were very rarely searched/visited.. It was also a place where a lot of Fresh spawns that DID NOT want the death-match PVP of Balota/Cherno/Elektro would go to pick up supplies as it had a Market, a lot of Farm houses, a lot of Tree Stands, and it was close to Green Mnt which had some medium value military spawns... -

The attackers that would engage the armored vehicle in the first place would most likely have an Anti-Tank weapon, including an Anti-Material Rifle or an Explosive device. The rifles you mention are firearms... not vehicles. The standalone will most likely be an extremely improved version over the MOD. The weapon spawns are already planned to be drastically lowered over the next few patches anyways. We shall wait and see what the devs decide in the end. -

Tanks do fit in this game though. It would give players a variety of different vehicles to choose from other than the helicopters, trucks, cars, atvs, or other types of vehicles that may be added. The tank could be used to bust through heavly fortified postions (either hero, bandit, or just the regular band of survivors). It would be so useful for clans trying to build basically a small PMC too. The tank would be extremly hard to maintain in the sense of the amount of fuel it would require, the ammo rarity (plus how you load it into the tank cannon), the ammo could not be functioning, you would need to repair the tank every so often, etc. More difficulty= better survival. -

The tank cannon should be working.. what is the use for a tank if you don't have a working cannon? The APC would make up for the machine gun you want lol. A tank is designed to break through heavily armored positions and destroy armored vehicles/other hostiles. -

It would be cool for one of the three or so static tanks (not the monument ) to be repaired and driven around I would say that the ammo should be non existent though . So if anything this tank would just be the only "house on wheels" (before they add rvs if they do) and a death trap if you run out of fuel in a zombie crowd. So hell I say lets do it I would love to see( and hear) a guy ballsy enough to take two real days to repair a tank come rolling through Cherno/ electro , it would make a great conversation piece for the time being :). And like I said a great place to hide/ protect yourself maybe with a little escape hatch at the bottom of the tank (I think it's usually for making repairs but could be used at an escape route if someone's waiting for you to open the top hatch ). So we shouldn't consider it for any of the first vehicles and IMO it should never be able to be shoot , maybe just the machine gun but I can see it being op with a team of bandits being buttholes in a tank even with just a machine gun working . -
Yeah, if you've never played the mod, it had a very different feel (IMHO). The fact that there were zombies EVERYWHERE really made you feel like you were immediately in danger and the lone living human. Sort of an I Am Legend or beginning of 28 Days Later or The Walking Dead feel. More zombies also meant some warning against other players. Either from zombie-directed gunfire, zombie agro or the unwanted affect of zombies only spawning when players are near. If you met a random player, there was often a chance that you would find it more advantageous to work together to fight off some zombies, rather than immediately kill each other. That player and zombie bodies stuck around for a long time gave sort of an ominous feel. Like you didn't know what went down in the church where you just found 5 fully armed dead players and a dozen zombie bodies. Tents, vehicles, basic fortifications like barb wire and tank traps meant rudimentary base building. Vehicles also meant the very terrifying possibility of bandit raiders sweeping down from the hills in SUVs or even a helicopter. Animals and campfires allowed you to live off the land and avoid the terror of the big cities if you wanted. But the mods was also a lot of sniper duels at 2000m with .50 cal rifles and Call of Duty battles, occasionally interrupted by drunken hobos.

I personally like the idea of very subtle "skill" progression. Something like a use-based skill system similar to the elder scrolls games and sandbox MMOs like the old Darkfall. A few examples could include: As you run around your endurance increases slowly, allowing you to steady your aim faster after a jogIncreased strength from being healthy and doing physical things, which could slightly increase damage done by melee weapons or allow you to carry very heavy things in your handsThe more you repair vehicles, the better chance of success you have at a repair (if it is chance-based)Books that contain knowledge required for advanced vehicle repairs or advanced crafting schematics such as underground basesBuilding immunities to diseases after coming into contact with them and/or contracting themOverall better health by regularly taking vitamins and eating a healthy diet instead of eating cereal and sodaPersonally I survive just to survive, I need no other incentive :)

Just for the record, I have nothing against tanks or similiar vehicles being in the game. After all, you would find them in military bases, wouldn't you?

Definteley inaccurate and old soviet style mortars. Remember Far Cry 2? Loved the indirect fire possibilities and the two possible ammunitions: smoke rounds to aim and HE ones to attack enemies directly. I like the idea of shooting from 200 m distance towards a town with a smoke grenade and seeing all zeds around running to the smoke grenade without any clue where it came from. Mortars could also be mounted onto vehicles as it is done in asymmetric warfare. Maybe on pick ups.

game starts as mod. we all want a proper standalone game with all the best features involved in that very game. it finally happens and the standalone is born. as soon as we get what we wanted then people want it modded :o :o :o its a standalone game ! let the devs do what they need to and lets wait. if you want 10000 gun and vehicles with ufos and donosaurs go play the mod . once the content is out for the standalone alot of this sillyness will stop. i to want the content for SA but not like the mod which ruined the concept of why most play. i would like the original concept and just maps like taviana , namalsk and the like added. nothing else. this game can be developed properly now. it has the money and studio and people behind it. chepaening it by doing quicik mods just for time and wanting is stupid and makes everything thats happened to get here a waste of fooking time. -

Oh so adding Bloodsuckers or any additional weird zombie (Didn't mind since it was from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.), AI trading, 100,000,000 vehicles, 100 Super Weapon Boxes, Huge Abnormal buildings (In odd places), and etc...is fixing things? OHHHH Thats so fixing things....*facepalm* -

Personal feelings of military weapons (and future weapons) in this game

Thanks for the interview link. I think some of us are worried about this weapon crafting stuff. I mean why not focus development on loot storage (tents, safes, or whatever the dev team comes up with), AI, vehicles, or even base building. I am not sure why crafting weapons is such a big deal. It appears to me, that the devs are saying that the way things are now is temporary until we implement are awesome weapon crafting system, and then we will turn down the gun spawns. No offense to the devs, but if I want to craft weapons, I would go play Minecraft or Rust. The problem with craft-able weapons is that if you don't lower gun spawns, then everyone will just skip over the weapon crafting. The problem with lowering gun spawns is that server hopping will be more prevalent. Heck, I would be tempted to server hop just to be one of the few with a M4 and own your crafted nail bat or crafted bow. I agree the devs want variety, but if they aren't careful DayZ will become a very different game (whether that is good or bad is up to the individual) than what it is now. I really hope DayZ does not become too crafting crazy. I wouldn't mine some crafting, but please do not make this game Rust with zombies. -

some good points, but i dont wanna see different hives just yet, as in the mod that leads to people not caring about their character as much. as you said, i could be a nice guy 1 server, then just get a new character with all new gear for when i wanna run around cities deathmatching. It should stay as if I want to go deathmatching in the city, i take my only character and all my gear and just have to risk losing it for me, the biggest thing is more loot, then more zombies - that should lower server hopping, as people can find the stuff they want, and enough zombies that each new server is a threat as they would have to clear airfields etc each time before looting. then bases (at least camps, like the mod) so people can find home on a server, rather than just basing it on whats got the most/least players. And vehicles of course just to get around faster, plus it adds to the atmosphere, im sure many of us in the mod have heard a car and suddenly panicked as you try to figure out where the sound is coming from as for weapons, not a high priority as there is an ok selection so far, but seems everything is leaning more towards rifles, and I would rather see more close quarter weapons, like a new pistol, maybe an smg like an uzi or pdw, and a crossbow thats actually useful -
Latest Patches Discussion - What You Like & Hate - Predictions

So as well all know, the latest 2 patches were very good and helpful, making it much cooler to play and not always have the same military loot, sadly (even though they are working very hard on it) server performance hasn't been optimized enough yet to add respawning loot and zombies. The latest patch did fix GPU leaks and fps and crashing problems, but we wont currently count that one. Here are the patches we will be looking at - Feb Update 0.34.115106 - http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/172051-changelog-stable-branch-034115106/ Jan Update 0.33.114926 - http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/169526-pending-changelog-experimental-branch-033114782/ *Note* The Latest Patch did not say this but walkie talkies now work and have many different channels and are the most amazing thing in the game currently. So lets start with the bad stuff since there is not as much as it as the good stuff. Its almost like Buddhism, The good deeds should outrank the bad deeds, and that's what happened with the latest one. Bad Things- Server Hopping - I know this will sound a little nooby, but thing hard about it before you comment all pissed off. I know that it isn't that amazing at stopping them, and it is probably a temporary way to lower server hopping, but it doesn't really stop it at all, just log out somewhere hidden and when you join a new server wait the 70 seconds or something in a bush or something. But really think about it, they made it hard to log into a server anyways even if you haven't server hopped and also, server hopping is the only way to get decent loot currently, it doesn't respawn so you have to server hop or wait for a server to restart and remember the name of it, and there's no warning for a restart yet. All in all, its just annoying to wait for not server hopping in the first place, or trying to let nobody get any loot. Spawns - Spawning on the east coast, this isn't much of a problem since the new town with awesome buildings, Berezino, and NEAF, but I would like it if the Elektro spawn was amped a little more, cuz I've spawned there once since the patch that changed spawns, and have Cherno as a rarer spawn like the Novy Sobor spawn. See we are already out of the bad things category, any other things? Comment them below. Good Things- New Clothing - The new clothing is awesome, instead of looking like a bandit for the end game gear, now you can look like a survivor and still have a good amount of room, it just helps to actually make me look like a hero on the streets of elektro helping out, instead of looking like a bandit that is terrible at the game :P. New Sounds - The new sounds are much better, they make everything sound more realistic, and you can tell gun from gun a little easier once you get used to it. New Weapons - Its easier to find a decent weapon now because there are more and also they aren't super militarized, sks, shotgun, blaze aren't very military, which is what I and probably many people who like being a hero/survivors want. Radios - This is the best thing so far, as far as I have seen from a Frankie video I saw about 3-5 channels on the radio, probably more, at this point they are probably around the whole island, but will probably be optimized to only being a certain area. Those are all the good things I'm going to list, there are many more but I'm listing the ones I think are most important. Predictions - This is the best part now, we get to say what could happen, what will happen, and how we will play once or if they do happen. Things We Know - Vehicles - DayZ is currently Running Sim 2014, they will be adding vehicles, if it was in the mod, be sure it will be in the game, now lets predict how it will all go down. So, when do we thing vehicles will and should come, they should be in the patch that takes the game into beta, or before that, but before they add vehicles in they will have to have respawning loot, zombies, better performance, and added industrial item spawns to the industrial building. We will get more and more info without them even telling us when vehicles are coming, just by reading the future patches changelogs, I predict that the respawning items and zombies will come in the next 3 patches, the industrial items in the next 5-7 and vehicles in the next 10. Something like that, look at the recent about 4-6 patches, they've added plenty new items, server performance getting better, a new city, and the ones when the game came out, 2 military bases and 2 tent areas at NWAF and Balota AF, they are just setting it up to get better and better. Tell me your prediction for this in the comments below. Base Building - DayZ needs base building, and there have been some hints/rumors that I've heard that are significant towards base building, one I have heard that I barely remember but it was that the DayZ Dev Team was "teaming" with some of the Epoch guys to make base building work, this could be not true at all, or it is and I may be saying it wrong, please help me out with this prediction in the comments because this is my most anticipated thing for the game currently. They will probably need good server performance, working tree cutting (that is hopefully more realistic than Epoch's), vehicles, and should probably be in beta when it is attracting more players. More Guns - This is the most obvious thing, they have already added about 5 new weapons, so we wont discuss this. New Cities & Buildings - They have added 4 new cities into the game and edited some older ones quite a bit, they have made many old buildings enterable and have added 2 new very good buildings in Svetlojarsk. Predictions & Wanted Things - New Maps - Ok, this would be awesome, especially since the new engine and graphics make the world look beautiful, some of the maps being remade would be amazing, like Namalsk, Taviana, Panthera, etc. It would need a lot of good server optimization though to be able to run some of the maps without terrible lag. My game sucked in the mod when I played Panthera, also they have said, but not confirmed, that there might be Utes in the bottom of the chernarus map for you to be able to swim or boat there. New Buildings - New buildings would be awesome on this, they have made 2 new ones already so they will probably add more, but for different spawning points for different loot, new buildings would be awesome, like an old car dealership with a bunch of unfixable broken cars and then like 1-4 working ones that could spawn there. And new houses would be awesome on, not a remade map from ArmA, but a new map they make themselves, like a really cool residential one, new houses that could be fortified if base buildings comes and would be good to live in would be very cool. More Items for Roleplay - Adding nice things that would help simulate you into a zombie apocalypse, like the new radio, would be really good, being able to make a survivor camp then radio out to people would be really cool, but what about more sustaining yourself aswell, like being healthy, not being hungry, etc. Adding sleeping items and tents that would not be deleted after a server restart but only after a wipe would be really cool. Weather - They have already added the rain, but what about seasons, snow, hot etc, and your temperature would be affected too, and the different clothing could help you sustain your temperature, and also when it snows, it actually stays on the ground and builds, instead of just falling onto the ground and disappearing, but that also depends on the weather, plus, its Russia, its cold there in the winter. Server Differences - They've already revealed a future plan of server host being able to customize there servers, the loot tables, maybe add some random buildings, etc. But what about each server having a different cloud? This would stop server hoppers forever and combat logging wouldn't be as safe. Every server would be different, say you wanted to a hero, bandit, and survivor at one time. Favorite 3 different servers, one would be one you would just survive on, the other could be one you could help out and be a hero on, or one you could go on and take away the stress of being killed after being nice and just be a bandit, also when combat logging, especially since they'll make it so that you cant leave the server so easy, would be dangerous to do, say your being shot at in a field and then your a little pussy ass dick and combat log, POOF, but then, you cant go on another server ghost around, and kill the person by being the worst player in the game, if you wanted to log back in, they could be waiting to punish you, so you log in, the timer comes on, and your already dead. That's all I'm gonna make for today, I hope I helped some of you by showing some information, and if I missed something or you have another idea, post it in the comments below, the dayz community is one of coolest and worst at times, but you guys could really help and also if the devs haven't thought of this already, they could maybe implement it, but all devs think of everything, so they probably have already decided like everything, we just need to find out what that is, hope you guys got some good ideas from this too :D. ~WillPocalypse
