This allows the team to control the rarity of individual items not just per server, but for every single player no matter where they live. "We'll say there can only be, for example, a hundred night-vision goggles in the whole world across all servers," Hall explains. "Then, once your character dies, or that item gets destroyed, it makes a new one available to spawn on a server." The rarity of an item will be defined by its function. Specialist military gear, such as night-vision goggles, logically wouldn't be found as often as a can of baked beans. Hall wants players to hear rumours that a particular player on a particular server has found some of this specialist gear, which could lead to a kind of lore and reputation building up around such servers. And if you are the person who has found such an item, you'll start playing differently to hold onto it for as long as possible. "What we'd see is, particularly when we get into vehicles, or components for helicopters that are very rare and are controlled centrally so there can only be a certain amount of helicopters in every server in the whole world, that would mean that if you hear there's a working helicopter on a particular server, you'll want to go to that server," he adds. Hall predicts that the team will need to add a new server cluster dedicated to controlling this persistent loot economy. But the introduction of extreme rarity and the reputation surrounding players with such items is an important step toward adding more opportunities for emergent storytelling to take place. The team also discussed methods of bringing the notion of changing servers into the gameworld itself, such as walking to the edge of the map loading you into a new server on the other side. "But obviously we need to make a lot of maps for that, and it takes many years because they're huge, hand-made maps," says Hall. "We talked about procedural generation, but it was going to be so much effort that, before we looked at that, we needed to do all our architectural work first." Ok, maybe someone can explain how exactly this reputation from another server helps "emergent storrytelling"? What storytelling is he talking about? Because the only thing I see is even more motivation for server hopping - which is already a big problem that is NOT being solved in its roots. Why should there be economy between servers? In Rust or 7 Days to Die you cannot bring your loot to another server. You change server, you start with nothing, no server hopping for loot, everyone is happy. Is it not a viable solution for DayZ? Why? What if someone gets a hold on night vision goggles and goes offline? What if he dies in the woods under a bush? Will that pair of goggles remain with him forever and not spawn on this or any other server again until he goes online and gets killed? What is the logic behind this? If we have abundant respawning food and ammo, appearing just out of nowhere (which already means no realistic economy), why should night goggles get limited this way? Or maybe Rocket wants players to server hop even more in search of rare items? Is it a game about server hopping for rare items?

  5. For the last three or four months, I've been in the north-east corner of the map, all the time. Honestly, the lack of players on a server make this game extremely boring if you go in-land a few kilometers (Except Krasno, NEAF, Novo etc.) Even with 40 players. It's just constant running, looting, no "horror" as this game is suppose to deliver in a way. Go on a 40 man server, there's no point going in land, since everything is looted. Go on a semi pop server (10-20 players) and you won't even have to worry about them. Because they're obviously in the popular NE corner, or near military spawns. I'm not moving out of the north east until base building and vehicles are in, the game was so much fun during the 100 player exp servers, and I hope they're working to get them back. Even 150 would be better. With so many players, you are forced to loot with caution, and being careful when inland, not just straight running around like a jackass and yet being rewarded for that. . I really want to question how most of you can enjoy this game by running far in-land, running around picking up loot, I mean sure I guess it's a lot more enjoyable with some company, but still, this game is currently about PvP and interactions.. After 560 hours played I've finally understood why people call this a running simulator.. ( Not a rant, I love this game )
  6. Does Vert's map tool in their DayZ CP allow for vehicle placement similar to Dayz.st? Used to host with Dayz.st and loved the map tool but obviously, their customer support and server quality was somewhat lacking while I hear nothing but good about Vert. Just curious if I'll have to go back to manually adding vehicles in the database or not.

    My SA experience.

    I played the first week it came out and stopped for obvious reasons. Today i decided to re download and give it a try. (after seeing all the patches) I spawned and ran to the closest building. Inside was a fucking sweet hat and some handcuffs. I ran out of the building and a player walked up and asked me which way berenzo was. Trying to figure out how to point he pulled out a axe and killed me. I know this game is alpha and lalalalalalalalalalalalal. but i want to put in a few things that really stop me from playing the game. 1. I dont see ANY zombies!!!! like one or two here and there but thats it. THEY NEED TO ADD SOME GOD DAM ZOMBIES 2. No vehicles. (i know they haven't added them yet) but this is a deal breaker. way i see it vehicles are end game and something to do. 3. Zombie combat. Its a god dam nightmare trying to fight one of these things off. Putting your axe in the middle of their forehead should be a little bit easier. I like Deadislands melee system. Currently it just feels buggy and weird. its no fluent and doesn't feel right.. 4. I think there should be a bit more players per server. 5. I absolutely fucking hate how there there isn't persistent servers. really should be a must have in what they're trying to capture. 6. Basebuilding???? I haven't been following the development lately because i have been pretty busy! if anyone wants to elaborate on some of these topics feel free!! As of now personally im going to have to wait a bit longer to enjoy this game. Some things im looking forward too that you might not know about is a game called "Miscreated" and "Survive the nights". I just recently found out about them and they look pretty promising!! Also "the fifth day" release friday 7/25/2014. Its a survival game that revolves around robots and stuff. (what i gathered from some gameplay footage). I hope everyone is enjoying the game and hope to see you all in chernarus! **edit. This isnt a rant/complaint about dayz, its more of a recapp why i am playing other things. I know its in alpha and they are working on these things.

    A Few DayZ SA Ideas

    I had a few DayZ Ideas, and wanted to see other people’s opinion of them. Realism Fatigue – Now, anyone who’s played Arma III will know that this can be a bit tedious. Basically, it puts a cap on sprinting and other stamina related actions. But it’s realistic. I can’t say I know anyone who can sprint for 30 minutes straight. If this added, I would prefer to see it after vehicles are all set up. Gradual Healing of Broken Limbs – Now, don’t just take it from me, Chenarussian Scientists could have made substantial advances in Morphine and Splint Medical Technology, but I’m pretty sure a jab of Morphine doesn’t instantly heal anyone with a broken leg. Anyway, what I think should occur that once Morphine is applied, the player should be able to walk, but their full running speed is gradually returned to normal over time, perhaps 15 minutes? Fall Damage – Now I’m sure the Developers are aware of this, but falling from five feet should not break your legs. This should be tweaked, but yes, I know it’s an Alpha. Miscellaneous Items Battery-powered Radios – I can hear you now, “Excuuuse me, Author, but of what use would those be? Let me lay it out for you: It’s a dark and stormy night in Cherno. You are a Sniper sitting in an apartment, waiting for someone to cross your sight-line. After a while of seeing no one, you ask the question: “Anyone in Cherno?” Right as you’re about to switch servers, you hear music. It sounds like 50s music, coming from upstairs, you decide to investigate. In a room at the end of the hall, you discover the source of the music: a Battery-powered Radio, sitting on the floor. You decide to leave. You start to walk back down the hallway when those famous words appear: You are Unconscious. EDIT: Because someone hit you with something, it was a trap. Pretty good, eh? And no, you couldn’t do the exact thing with voice chat because radio could remain stationary while you go somewhere else. Night-vision Goggles – Yes, reader, you CAN see in the dark by turning gamma all the way up and disabling clouds, and if you didn’t know that, you’re welcome. But, assuming the Developers fix that, a pair of goggles granting you the ability to see in the dark would be very useful. The would be mounted on the head. EDIT: I've been notified that Night Vision Goggles are actually already in DayZ SA. I guess they're really rare. Night-vision Binoculars – The same thing as the Night-vision Goggles, but are able to see at considerably longer ranges, and are not mounted on the head. FLIR/Thermal Binoculars – I would hope these to be extremely, and I mean extemely rare. I want these to make Solar Alignments look as common as iPhones. Basically, these would grant the ability to see in the dark and through smoke (I’ll get to that in a bit). They would also assist in giving to user the ability to more easily discern targets at longer ranges. Range Finders - Would be used to accurately access the range from you and a reference-point. Weapons Flare Guns - Yes, I know there are flares in-game, but these would allow you to shoot flares in the air, perhaps with flair. Oh, look, that rhymed. High-caliber Handguns - Desert Eagles, Revolvers, something like that. These would have a limited magazine size but would make up for it with stopping-power. They also might take up more space. Compact Handguns - Somewhat the opposite of the High-caliber Handguns, these would also have a smaller magazine size, and would have a lower caliber. These would take up less space as a benefit. Remote Detonated Explosives - Explosives with the ability to be detonated from a distance with a Wireless or Wired Detonator. The explosives could be lethal or non-lethal. Laser Pointers - Because running around Elektro shining lasers on people would just be hilarious. Could also be useful for painting targets when assisting a friendly Sniper. Thowables Sleeping Gas - Okay, say some guy is holed up in a room and is expecting you. You don't want to charge in, so you throw a Gas Grenade in. If he doesn't vacate the area, his screen will rapidly blur until he falls unconscious. Non-lethal. Smoke Grenades - Got a Sniper, or anyone really, pinning you down from a distance? Pop some Smoke for a quick escape. Decoy Grenades - Basically, when activated, these grenades would make various noises to get attention. Could be used to scare away or attract. I would also like to see these rare, as I would not like to walk in Berezino and wonder if the automatic fire I just heard was actually automatic fire. Counter-measures Radio-frequency Jammer - When activated, this device would render nearby Wireless Detonators, Walkie-talkies, or any RF device useless. Useful if walking through what could be an ambush. Perhaps as a method of usage control, the wearer could suffer from nausea and related symptoms after a bit from the RF waves. EDIT: To those saying that these would likely not be found in Chenarus, you must recall that, in the US at least, they are issued to some law-enforcement agencies. Due to the abundance of Military Bases in Chenarus, it's not out of the question to think at least one is laying around. Weapons Attachments Night-vision Scopes - Same principle as the Night-vision Binoculars, just attachable to various weapons. Would come in different varieties with appropriate zoom levels. FLIR/Thermal Scopes - Same thing as before, but I want them even rarer. Grenade Launchers - I believe I've already seen a GP-25 on the Developer wishlist on the DayZ Wiki. These would essentially allow you to send ordinance at a longer range. Heartbeat Sensors - That was a joke! Just a joke, don't worry. Actions and Abilities Weapon Disarming - If someone's holding you at gunpoint, you have your hands out, and they're close enough, you should be able to disarm them and take their weapon. Blind Fire - You should be able to blind fire around corners to reduce exposure at a cost of accuracy. Well, that's about it for now.     ability to filter salt water

    Possibly, then again you can never be sure with chemicals. I have to agree with most of the others though, water/drink is easy enough to come by now. When they add infections it will be slightly harder, but not by much, you just won't be able to walk to a pond and drink without a chance of getting sick. I would think the salt 'filters' (if added) would only spawn on boats (both vehicles and 'buildings') rather than randomly spawn anywhere else. If you're on an island with no freshwater source that's one thing, but as I said, plenty of sources of fresh drinking water, while cool I would imagine it's expensive to have one of these kits.

    I think people either forget the mod or never played the mod when they think the person in the car is somehow the biggest threat. Cars have always been bullet magnets and when they were rare in the mod you were more worried about getting killed trying to get gas than people were of hearing a vehicle. Cars were insanely easy to damage/disable so I would be more concerned with people without vehicles camping gas sources than the people with vehicles dominating. I got my first car in dayz by camping a gas station and killing the previous owner.

    So it dawned on me the other day that gas stations will probably become pvp zones once vehicles are implemented as I assume they will be the main source of fuel. Does it worry anyone else that all the clans and groups with vehicles will be driving to roads infested with new spawns to fuel up? There seem to be a lot of gas stations on the east coast... If not most of the gas stations. It Kindof goes against all of the emphasis they've been putting on all the loot spawning in the west

    I quite like this. Fuelling vehicles will be a risky venture, a bandit clan could be waiting to destroy the pumps, or ambush any player nearby. I always welcome new gameplay elements.

    Saddest death in gaming

    Oh I got this: On the mod I was playing Vanilla chernarus with a few friends. We found a smashed up bus in Elektro that only had one wheel and needed near enough everything fixed to run again. We spent a good four hours running as far as the factory in the north, everywhere in Elektro and the nearby areas trying to get all the parts. After a painfully long amount of time , we got it fuelled and fixed and ready to go. We decided to drive to Cherno and then NWAF in search of other vehicles. Except we didn't make it through Cherno. There is a bridge at the start of Elektro - which we refer to as 'bouncy bridge'. We call it this because it fucks up any ATV that goes on it and sends it flying for absolutely no reason at all. As expected, there are two ATV's glitched inside the bridge construction. I decide it is a good idea to ram them out of the way. The only problem is, they both exploded and destroyed out bus, killing everyone. It was a sad day, and many rage quits were had.

    I completely understand the concerns - many of my friends have also stopped playing for the same reasons. We will see more zombies soon, Experimental right now is testing 64 bit servers, which opens up many possibilities.Vehicles are currently in development. I'm actually optimistic, that we may see the first ones before Christmas of this year.Zombie combat: this gets better every patch - the latest experimental build partially has fixed zombies running through walls, and makes a better experience.More Players: There has also been a 100 player server in testing.Persistent servers: Tents are going in the internal testing build and the latest tweet from rocket said they might make Experimental this week!Basebuilding: Later this year, I imagine we will start hearing about this. I think it's fair to say that this is probably not coming until 2015. Add in all the new weapons, items and small changes (sounds, bug fixes, functions, changes to existing things ) and there is actually quite a lot of things getting done right now! It's fair to be disappointed with the current progress of the game, but there is a lot of things getting done. Hang in there!

    hi all recent updates i have added onto the server adjusted the towing script so choppers can now tow choppers if needed and added more vehicles to the towing script added the different overpoch vehicles to the traders so they now can be sold properly weapon loot drops around the map have a rare chance for rocket launchers and grendade launchers spawning as50's now spawn on loot drops they are rare but they are out there increased building supplies in the loot drops to aid base build being thinking bout removing plot pole requirement when building but its something to look at. N.B i have noticed people trying to join and having time out issues i have checked my side and all seems to be working fine. if you are joining and have a time out issue message me and i will sort it for you WE NOW HAVE A TS CHANNEL ON 85.236.100.85 10947 Just the minions overpoch channel and someone should be in there if not leave a message and i will get back to you. if u have any suggestions for the server let me know and i will do my best to add them or adjust them to make things more interesting. thanks for viewing and joining if you do crazy

    CARS SUGGESTION (REALISTIC AND POSSIBLE)

    Pre-WW2 vehicles? There are relatively few pre-ww2 vehicles still running today, even in places like the United States, and the apocalypse hasn't happened. Most older cars require a lot of special care to keep running, otherwise they just become junk buckets rusting out where they sit, and the apocalypse would do no good to any of them that happened to still be working inside of a random barn or farm. They could make a unique model for one that spawns somewhere, but I don't think it would be worth the time just to add it when there are a good number of other vehicles with a larger utility you could add.

  19. I think the thing I like the most about these sorts if threads is when people give opinions about things that their opinions suggest they know nothing about. For example 'putting vehicles in is easy'. Much lolz. In term if this thread, I don't get the issue. With any other game you only get vehicles, or anything fir that matter, once the game is finished. Also, why would they waste time investing in something that is such a small part of the game, when there is still a significant amount of work needed on core features? I for one am GLAD they are not working in them until now as it means they are focused on the important stuff. Plus it means that we still have some time before people are whinging about buggy vehicles all over the forum.

    Hopefully it's just a technical issue. I rather preferred playing on public hives due to it's significant unaltered state of the server such as adding in more vehicles and weapons, keeping it as vanilla as vanilla ice cream gets. Mmm.. Ice cream.

    We're not supposed to be playing this game it is what half a year into alpha? This is a pre-release of a game and you're whining about vehicles and the clear flaws in the game that have been brought up for the past 8 months on these forums. What is ranting on the forums and getting mad because your game isn't complete doing for you? nothing exactly. They're remaking the engines for this game so when the release comes it will (hopefully) be depleted of its errors and flaws. I suggest you uninstall the game and come back in a year or two. Go play the mod if you're going to whine about their being no vehicles, I'm sure you'll find servers with 9999+ Vehicles at your very finger tips. Farewell.
  23. So yeah, folks say that helicopters could "dominate" the map in the mod, without actually considering what factors allowed them to "dominate" (which is highly debatable). In my two years of playing the mod, I can count on one hand how many times I've been killed by a helicopter. I never found them to be remotely outlandish in what they allowed players to do. One is trading speed and visibility for stealth. And the helicopters could be taken down by small arms fire. Plus one requires a group to be effective offensively, otherwise, they're just glorified [and loud] flying cars. And folks on the ground, more often than not, could evade the helicopter's ire by simply... not firing at the helicopter. I've taken the liberty of breaking down the factors which could be considered to make helicopters "overpowered" in the mod (none of which have to do with helicopters as a concept)... 1. Easy to spot players from the air due to client-side spawns of zombies 2. Easy to spot players from the air due to artificially turning down graphics settings (i.e. ATOC) 3. Easy to spot vehicles/tents from the air due to a lack of camouflage/storage options and poor graphical contrast 4. Highly flexible third-person view whilst piloting 5. Readily available and inconsequential fuel supplies 6. Auto-refill ammunition on armed helicopters upon server restart 7. Generic repair parts which are able to be found across the map 8. Every pilot and passenger gets an innate parachute, able to deploy teammates without risking the helicopter itself DISCLAIMER - This does not apply to mods of the vanilla mod.
  24. I enjoy the feel of the game as it is now. Even if they slowed us down I like the gameplay more were we are treking around on foot and dealing with the limitations it brings. I like that you have to work to get from point a to point b. with cars it can become too trivial to travel....helos will be the worse even if they are rare. Adding vehicles feels too much like GTA to me ....i get others want them but I won't use them. I won't complain about others playing with them either but I hope the amount of cars allowed on a server is very limited like no more than 1-2 cars and that gas is hard to come by. I facepalm every time they make changes that hinder gameplay like the current experimental where u have to walk with a weapon raised and state we cannot do this cause we are not military trained survivors....BUT somehow we all are capable and knowledgeable enough to repair and fly a helo with 0 training? Contrary to what others have stated I can jog with a weapon raised and I never served in the armed forces.....but there is no way In hell I can fly a helo without extensive lessons. Even learning to restore a car to a drivable state is harder to learn then basic infantry tactics and gun handling but somehow they want us to move like fat kids.

    Gas Stations

    Pretty sure there's gas stations further inland towards NW around Zeleno & Stary. There was no real issue in the mod, save for me getting pinged frequently by m4/dmr campers hiding in the hills while i landed on the station to refuel. I'd expect the clanners to be locking down gas stations anyway, meaning the vehicle will probably only go to a selection of stations that the clanners feel safe at. This means more buck for your bang i guess, because the 5 clones trying to stay out of sight will be a beacon to campers waiting for the vehicle to show up ;) but vehicles are still over the horizon at this point.
