Is anyone else seriously concerned/sad that a console port has already been announced? To clarify. I'm not concerned because "hurr durr PC gaming master race why give game to console plebs". While it's true that the plebians do not deserve a truly enriching gaming experience such as Dayz (let's be honest, they can't truly appreciate it, that's why they're plebs), I have to question why a game that is barely functional is being ported to console. The only answer I can suss up is one of purely commercial interest. Looking at the current state of the game: Desync is still a major issue that completely breaks the experience. Example, you're holed up inside a house with a shotgun having been chased by an unfriendly player with a rifle. You can hear him searching nearby houses. The footsteps get closer and closer. You hear the downstairs door creak open. You ready your shotgun. Suddenly... he lags into the room, you both empty three magazines and after a 10 second delay one or both of you falls over dead. I think we can all relate to this situation. "End-game" is really, truly boring in comparison to the mod. In Dayz Mod, once you had a functional kit and a weapon you had some serious choices regarding what you wanted to do. You could try to find and repair a car. You could hunt for wilderness camps to steal someone elses car. You could set up a tent and fill it with guns. You could set up a tent and fill it with fried chicken. You could do what I did, fix a helicopter, fill THAT with friend chicken, land safely in Cherno, and shoot out the rotor. At one point, myself and some friends had hoarded over forty vehicles and three helicopters on a private hive, prompting hilarious posts on the hive's forums. Point being, there was always something to do where you felt like you were accomplishing something or could hoard things for future survival. Dayz SA lacks any meaningful things to do, in that you can find a gun within 10 minutes of spawning and outside of perfecting every aspect of your kit and trolling kids on the shore there is nothing fun to do. Everything is broken in it's own little way. Mod had it's quirks (ATV physics, I'm looking at you!), but they were far enough between that it didn't break the immersion until you had sunk 500 hours into the game and knew how to read every little detail. In SA, I feel like EVERYTHING I do is broken in some way. Hundreds of little bugs, like the phantom reloading/soda noise or the fact that noises in general are out of proportion and come from incorrect directions constantly. Despite every patch having notes about animation fixes, a shitload of animations are still broken. Weapons in general have hilarious spreads, like the M4 that occasionally shoots bullets at a 90 degree angle. All of this serves to break the intense immersion that the mod had perfected. Ultimately, that is likely the only reason the mod even succeeded in the first place and it's still the biggest thing missing from SA. There's also the fact that the game is one of the most poorly optimized titles on PC. Ever. My FPS tanks whenever I enter a city, and even in the country it has the occasional dip. I'm running a 4770k @ 4.8GHZ, Asus Maximus Extreme 6 board, 16gb Corsair Vengeance @ 1866, 780ti Kingpin with a hearty overclock, Lepa 1600W PSU, and Dayz is loaded on a 1/4 full Samsung EVO SSD. And I get dips, massive tanks in city environments. This is regardless of any settings I adjust, because the game is fundamentally horribly optimized. This begs the question; How in the god damn fuck is this going to run on a console? If Bohemia can't optimize their game for PC, where the engine has resided since the first Arma game, how can we expect them to suddenly make it playable on a console that has worse specs than even a low-mid range PC? This isn't a rant that the game isn't finished. I get that, it's alpha and I expect issues. I'm very excited for persistent storage and eventually vehicles, because those two things combined will add back a lot of what SA is missing over the mod. But here's the tl;dr... Why are you taking a game that is still fundamentally less than half complete and wasting time and resources porting it to consoles?

I am unable to see spawn vehicles or hive as normal admin on the latest version of infistar. Super admin works fine but sometimes takes a long time to parse the database Any help would be amazing... Been trouble shooting for days now.

I want to first preface this with the fact that it is not a recruitment at this stage, but rather a discussion, hence why I am placing it in the general discussion forum. If it seems like there is a lot of positive feedback, it may eventually move into recruitment. I have been pondering the issues of deathmatching in the game for a bit now and the standard comment seems to be “There is nothing else to do.” which is a valid complaint. The running comment that follows is that it is because of a lack of <insert whatever that player enjoys most here> in the game. Inability to move away from the coast readily isn't helping this either, but that won't change until vehicles show up. One of the things I learned from text-based gaming and roleplaying is that you might do well with a good person at the helm and not need to put much thought in, but when you have someone who isn't offering much to work with, you need to be proactive. In this case, the game isn't fully developed, so is only giving us a few tools to work with. I personally can't join a roleplay server due to a lack of a mic (typing makes you move which gets me killed more often than not for acting 'hostile' as it forces sudden lunges forward) but that seems like avoidance of the issue anyway. I suppose I should get to the point here. I am imagining a group or guild who work together to create playable situations for people. Maybe several sub-groups involved. I envision them perhaps taking up residence in a town on a server that doesn't frequently restart and handling matters like trade and mercenary aide. Something where everyone knows if you go to that town, there is a chance they will have been set up there and you can head to a certain house to get food, another has ammo, another supplies, etc. What you have to give to get them is based on the current supply and demand. Nothing is stopping you from trying to raid them, but at the same time there are heavily armed men and women about who are there to stop just that. Maybe one or two people who run supplies between the various houses as trades are made and others out gathering certain types of supplies. Mercs obviously just hang about and then accompany people to dangerous locations for a set price. It would take a commitment on the part of those involved to spend boring periods of doing nothing but chatting with other members of the group, so I don't think anyone would be doing it all the time. Just maybe once a week everyone gets together and does a setup or maybe break it into a few times a week based on smaller subgroups. More or less committing yourself to improving the gameplay and creating an interesting situation for others so that there can be something to do other than deathmatch. There could even be an occasional odd event like a scavenger hunt where everyone starts in one spot and has to run around finding everything on a list. A few enforcers hanging around watch for anyone deathmatching and bring them down. Such enforcers would need to be identifiable, perhaps through a specific article of clothing or something. Anyway, what do people think of this idea? Feel like it could add a bit more to the game until the developers have added new things for us to work with?

Not sure how exactly it is planned, but tbh, I don't like the idea of having more and more ways to survive in the wilderness (Hunting, fishing, "horticulture" etc.) on the one hand, but having villages placed here and yet another big town there, adding more loot options everywhere. When you can reach a big town within a few minutes, and even the smaller villages have various loot, there is no need to do all those things in the woods, and even vehicles become pointless somehow... Why would I spend hours to get a vehicle running when there is no need to travel around because the next big town is just a few hundred meters away? I'd like to see a Bigger cities should be few, but offer a lot of -how to say- "luxury"loot like canned food and bottled water, while the smaller villages should have kind of "raw materials" like crop, fruits and tools, forcing players to visit different places. Save the forests! :lol:

Server Update 12-08-14 additions: Single currency system Gold Coins Currency Exchange Added to majority of traders - also includes Gems. Still a use for the old currency at the buildings supply trader - can buy bulk building supply's with the old gold briefs Etc. Missions spawning with Overwatch vehicles Missions still spawning briefcases - Bunny Ranch mission (rare mission) but spawns a few gems and 4 briefs that can be converted into the new currency Trader Revamp - new guns added All traders are now safezone'd - YES ALL!! Heli Refuel Stations on the airstrips and one safezone'd refuel station in altar - All marked on the map. 1 Full Briefcase is worth 100.000 How to join the server update First of all this server REQUIRES you to have 2 mods enabled @dayzoverwatch and @dayzepoch1051 make sure these are in your launch parameters when trying to join. The launch parameters are -mod=@DayzOverwatch;@DayZ_Epoch; If you are using Dayz Launcher. http://www.dayzlauncher.com/ You will find them in the mods tab, make sure you have these downloaded and enabled in the launch tab/advanced under the mods section this basically replaces the need to add the launch parameters. If you are using Dayz Commander http://www.dayzcommander.com/ You will find the mods in the install/update tab, make sure they are installed and your launch parameters are in the settings tab. -mod=@DayzOverwatch;@DayZ_Epoch; If you are using play with six http://www.play.withsix.com/ You will find the mods in the mods section and you can filter out and search for the mods overwatch and epoch to install. Your launch parameters are in the options tab / settings / game settings / then towards the bottom is Startup Parameters add -mod=@DayzOverwatch;@DayZ_Epoch; If you are using the Arma 2 oa ingame server browser you must make sure that you have your launch parameters set in your steam options. Go to your steam game library right click on arma 2 oa and select properties, in the general tab you will find set launch options... in here put -mod=@DayzOverwatch;@DayZ_Epoch; Once all mods and launch parameters are set you can join the server by 2 ways you can filter the search (in any of the above game launchers of your choice) for dayzheros or join using the Server IP - 81.19.211.120:19102 If by any chance you get any errors when trying to join and verifying your game cache doesnt fix your issue you can join the teamspeak server and ask for a admin to help you join. I completely agree. In addition to this, the public hive ensured (for the most part) that there would still be servers running default settings. I have *yet* to find a private hive where the admin was able to resist the temptation to make some sort of changes. Long ago I started out as a PC gamer, then transitioned to consoles, and then back to PC when DayZ mod came about. I have to say, with all the downsides that console gaming has, it's a DAMN nice thing to be able to easily jump into a multiplayer game within seconds of popping the disc in without worrying whether or not it's going to be low gravity, modded weapons, added vehicles, etc etc etc. It seems that with any popular PC game it's only a matter of months before the game is so clouded with modded servers that someone has to become an expert on the game's ins and outs to be able to find a normal server to play on. With DayZ mod private hives it's extremely difficult to find any server that stays true to the original game's settings.

This is why finding a good "legit" server is so important and so very difficult. You have to be choosy and you have to be observant. But once you find it things are good. The problem is the server owners/admins that play favorites make it seem like all admins play favorites (which isn't the case). But perception is huge. Can you define this "too seriously" bit? What do you mean? I play this game because it's fun. But I also play to be successful. So if I use tactics that allow me get the better of you, does that mean I'm playing too seriously? Sounds like some of those bad admins that make all admins look bad. So, vehicles with thermal that are allowed in game (correct me if i'm wrong) took you out and others out not allowed to do that to players around missions? Or is that you saying that's bad form? I'm confused, because if they can buy that chopper from a vendor, then they can use that chopper how they want (without hacking). So you blew up a big clans tank and are surprised that they retaliated against you? I'm confused. If your striker was for "shits and giggles" then why did you spend 12 briefcases of gold for one? Seems like a gross waste of money. I will never play on hive servers again. Hacking and ghosting is ridiculous. Private servers allow admins to control/kick hackers, and you have no ghosting issues. Like I said in the beginning...you have to find the servers with good admins who have actual integrity and morals. Those are the servers you put in favorites. -

Vehicles can't be outside the map boundary, so you should find them. There are very few players camps because it's quite a fresh private hive (the public hive is definitly down). You should find 15 infected camps though. -
Vehicles will be fun. Eventually. >.> What I really really want are traps...So many fun things you can do with traps....barbed wire, bear traps, pointy sticks--even just simple stuff will do <.< I hope all this stuff eventually plays off each other, or factors into decisions you have to make--- Say you find some barbed wire.. You might want to wrap it around your baseball bat, reinforce a barricade, or put it on the front of your car!

Are the people that play on this server experts at hide and seek? Have been searching the map up and down for weeks now and not found a camp. Found one or two vehicles but every time we get two vehicles we are immediately raided and lose it all........... God I hope people are not hiding stuff in the debug monitor. Still loving the server btw. -
Do we want vehicles? yes the main reason people who are not playing SA at the moment are not for these reasons No vehicles No bases/Building of bases Zombies dont work good enough pathfinding glitches so on. so when those are fixed or done then youll see majority of people playing again like the mod which is where alot will be or not playing fullstop or just plaiyng mods that already these working like Breaking point on amra 3. vehicles add alot of fun to dayz and purpose in playing. you have the find a vehicle aspect. where are they are they rare where they spawn . you have the collecting of the parts purpose and maintaining the vehicle. the thrill of the chase of being chased after by vehicles on foot this can be both fun and terrifying. or you can be the persuer after the person on foot. then there is the stealing of vehicles . finding them and the loot often with them. or the taking on of the groups who often have them. so all in all yes you need vehicles they add alot to Dayz . when they are added back in youll see alot more people return to playing SA.

Nice grammar mate. Rope-burlap snack does sound tasty. Of course they will make vehicles rare. This is not GTA Online and big part of this game is walking and running AKA looting and exploring.

The problem is that there is currently little incentive to go outwards so everyone clusterfucks in the north-east. Once there are vehicles tents work, you will see people spread out more and 40 players will seem like a lot more. Adding players right now would just mean a bigger clusterfuck and even more lag. But yeah, I hope they do increase the number at some point to like 80 or something. I don t care if I constantly run into people, increases the danger level.
