    At this time, the game is a huge KoS fest due to lack of content like vehicles and tents. But since there are so many visual and gunplay improvements, I have to say it still is quite entertaining, despite of how bland it is compared to the mod. Mind you, even though SA is fun, the mod is still miles ahead.

    Came back because friend from Steam is pushing me to play this with him tonight and wanted to see if there were other responses, glad to see there are. I won't judge the game itself too harshly during this extent, at least not until months later (or next year) when vehicles are hopefully added and the population in game is similar to what it was in DayZ Mod's prime age. Interesting to hear about "persistent objects" being added towards the end of May. Hopefully tents are added to that. Checked out the change log, really cool to see that they're getting more blueprints and crafting going, as well as fixing (and at least acknowledging) a good portion of bugs that arise. EDIT: Also, what's happening in 5 months?

    What an awesome person. I wish the rest of this community would share your outlook. :) It'll probably be some time before vehicles, but you *may* want to return sometime after the end of May as there should be persistent objects (tents), hunting, campfires, and a few other cool features. There's already a bullet based physics system that allows you to throw objects which lead to the crossbow and craft-able bow, though the bow needs some finishing touches. Oh and loot will soon respawn (already did on the last exp update).

    Played the mod a lot on Arma 2 during its prime. Pre-ordered DayZ Standalone and played it a little bit, loved the enhancements that were made but decided that I'd basically stop playing it until tents and vehicles were added to the game. First off, were these things ever added? Secondly, how's the game looking in general ya'll think?
  7. Yeah that billboard has been in since Chernarus came out in 2009. Sahrani was the main map in the Original Arma game or Operation Flashpoint if you're an old-timer. Sahrani was an amazing map probably better than Cherno IMO, too bad it never caught on for the mod, the map was so fun for the week that it was popular. I'd love to see Sahrani adapted to standalone, but let's get tents and vehicles first hehe.

    It doesn't feel like I'm in an apocalypse?

    Roadblock for what? Zombies driving cars? Whats not to get? Poor = poor = not enough or little to no resources. A lot of the towns have no fire protection, grocery stores, hardware stores, etc etc etc. Hardly any buses, old wooden boxcar trains, not a single school, no municipal vehicles and who knows how far away an industrialized region is. Furthermore, why would a broke country spend what little money they have on an even more broke down farming region? They wouldn't and that's why there isn't any. Chernarus is a fictitious region based on locations in Czech Republic so there is no way to cross-reference real economical data anyway. Therefore, we can only deduce an economy based on its components which as stated above...are lacking. Also, Chernarus could have gotten over-run in no time flat which could easily explain why there was no attempt at NATO/UN send relief. When a region is unprepared for a natural disaster or etc, relief takes time...a few days at the least for relief to be on site. This happens in the US all the time. Maybe the infection hit too fast for anyone to take on such measures. Some of these towns look like they have a population of a couple dozen to a couple hundred with the bigger cities having a population of a few thousand at best. Not enough resources, not enough hands, not enough time. Shit could hit the fan and turn any one of those regions upside down in 24-48 hours. Folks would be too busy scrambling for their lives. You see the televisions and radio's in the houses? Those radio's look like their from the 70's. I can easily see the infection hitting and a farmer grabbing some essentials before literally running for the hills. Also, whats cutting down a tree going to do?

Hello If you are interested in DayZ Epoch Chernarus 1.0.4.2 look no further :) Me and my friend set out to start a server where donating would not result in a huge advantage, so far in the month that we have been open our server has been gaining in player base all the time. We aim to create a fun, mature and active community of like minded individuals, with a healthy balance between loot dropping from various locations and fun server activities to take part in. Server IP: 37.59.90.80:2402 600 + Vehicles | Custom Airfields & Traders | Extra Military Loot | Custom Loot Tables | A.I. Missions | Safe Trader Zones | Tow / Lift | Repair / Refuel | Active Admins | Building Snap | We are located in Paris (GMT+1), are lag free, have high FPS and have active (fair and fun!) admins.   12. Update, im having tons more fun with the mod then i did with Standalone. Sure it sucks that most building arent open and you cant really customize your character, but the fun is there. You can hop in a server with vehicles everywhere and start with a gun, or vice versa. The different maps add variety too. I wouldnt completely say it kills the SA, but its def a breath of fresh air. Recommend it if you can get the Arma 2 and CO for cheap.

    Saving & surviving in Dayz SA questions?

    1. No tents or storage beside what you can carry as of yet 2. No playable vehicles of any kind are in at the moment however they are confirmed for in the future. 3. Less from what ive seen, but you cant simply run them off and they can do this "lunge" attack that will some times knock you out especially if low healt to begin with due to shock mechanic. 4. FPS is very subjective due to amount of variations in rigs. I get over all more FPS then the mod but more frequent stutters and frame drops (and occasional momentary freeze-frames/hangs when zombies are spawning.

    More Improvised Items

    Really like it. So many possibilities to make more primitive weapons and gear; - Improvised Rope/Cord *Could be made from simply twisting live/supple vines or gathered "branches" together- or ripped off of defunct appliances/vehicles in the form of wiring? - Spears of various type *Everything fomr a simple sharpened stick to ones with peices of scrap metal or household knives attached to the end. - Improvised "Blades" *Even the steel food cans can be broken down and a peice of the metal sharpened against the pavement or a rock somewhere to make a blade for an improvise knive, weapon, or hunting implement. - Improvised "cammo" *Sticking or attaching branches from your surrpoindings to your clothes will make you harder to spon in the wilderness but stand out in the city

Hey Finally about to download DayZ SA but i have some questions. 1)Is there a way to save gear like before, as in tents or bases? 2)Any vehicles playable yet? 3)Lots of cheaters/hackers? 4)More or less zombies than the previous mod, or the same amount? 5)Is FPS a bit better in this standalone version?   16. I want to first preface this with the fact that it is not a recruitment at this stage, but rather a discussion, hence why I am placing it in the general discussion forum. If it seems like there is a lot of positive feedback, it may eventually move into recruitment. I have been pondering the issues of deathmatching in the game for a bit now and the standard comment seems to be “There is nothing else to do.” which is a valid complaint. The running comment that follows is that it is because of a lack of <insert whatever that player enjoys most here> in the game. Inability to move away from the coast readily isn't helping this either, but that won't change until vehicles show up. One of the things I learned from text-based gaming and roleplaying is that you might do well with a good person at the helm and not need to put much thought in, but when you have someone who isn't offering much to work with, you need to be proactive. In this case, the game isn't fully developed, so is only giving us a few tools to work with. I personally can't join a roleplay server due to a lack of a mic (typing makes you move which gets me killed more often than not for acting 'hostile' as it forces sudden lunges forward) but that seems like avoidance of the issue anyway. I suppose I should get to the point here. I am imagining a group or guild who work together to create playable situations for people. Maybe several sub-groups involved. I envision them perhaps taking up residence in a town on a server that doesn't frequently restart and handling matters like trade and mercenary aide. Something where everyone knows if you go to that town, there is a chance they will have been set up there and you can head to a certain house to get food, another has ammo, another supplies, etc. What you have to give to get them is based on the current supply and demand. Nothing is stopping you from trying to raid them, but at the same time there are heavily armed men and women about who are there to stop just that. Maybe one or two people who run supplies between the various houses as trades are made and others out gathering certain types of supplies. Mercs obviously just hang about and then accompany people to dangerous locations for a set price. It would take a commitment on the part of those involved to spend boring periods of doing nothing but chatting with other members of the group, so I don't think anyone would be doing it all the time. Just maybe once a week everyone gets together and does a setup or maybe break it into a few times a week based on smaller subgroups. More or less committing yourself to improving the gameplay and creating an interesting situation for others so that there can be something to do other than deathmatch. There could even be an occasional odd event like a scavenger hunt where everyone starts in one spot and has to run around finding everything on a list. A few enforcers hanging around watch for anyone deathmatching and bring them down. Such enforcers would need to be identifiable, perhaps through a specific article of clothing or something. Anyway, what do people think of this idea? Feel like it could add a bit more to the game until the developers have added new things for us to work with?
  17. Something tells me someone, somewhere, with certain ties to KGB would still kick off a fuss about NATO/UN being in their country, even if it was on the collapse from a zombie influencing virus. It all depends on how it started I guess, how long it took the humans to be infected and how long it took until they turned. From what I've seen so far (vehicles abandoned on the side of mountains, left in the streets, doors open and military installments just abandoned), I'd say they turned pretty quick.

The hardcore server however features no 3rd person and no death messages etc. We are looking to grow this server with fellow hardcore fans who believe the mod is best enjoyed in first person. We are a European Chernarus 1.8.0.3 private hive with an established community and have been going since November 2012. We are NOT one of those 9000 vehicles spawn with an AS50, barracks covering the coast types of hives. There are no "donor loadouts" or perks on this server. Vehicles are rare, loot is rare and the zombies will fuck you up! Our server runs on high end dedicated hardware and all resources are dedicated purely to the DayZ server ensuring great performance, this is not just some underpowered dayz.st server. Here's some of our featuresGreat community of players, including many of the most helpful heroes I have ever met in game, and of course some of the most deadly bandits. Many squads inhabit their server and there is plenty of squad pvp up North. No "donor loadouts", default number of vehicles (85) and a minimal number of custom buildings added purely to make places like the NEAF worth the trip New loot tables, when most hives say "custom loot" they mean awesome guns everywhere, this is not the case with ZS. Many items such as the DMR are much rarer on our server than in the standard loot tables. The higher tier items will only spawn up North, this discourages coast camping. Loot is hard to come by but rewarding when you find some! You will not find any OP weapons like sniper rifles on the coast in firestations etc, instead loot has been balanced to be up north and harder to find in new locations. A few new weapons have also been added to the loot table, including M4SPR, SVD, SVD_NSPU, AK107 variants, L85 variants and the bizon. Basebuilding, we run the excellent dayz basebuilding plugin. I have run this plugin for over a year now and it is very mature on our server. A large number of clans and solo players have their own bases established with some great gameplay resulting from it. Myself and rosska85 from opendayz recently modified Daimyo (the script authors) original version 1.3 code to expand it and make it compatible with Chernarus 1.8.0.3. Our server and rosskas server (holo federation) are currently the only two servers which are running the code. This is not epoch style basebuilding where you can just hoard things away and others can't ever get them. Base break ins are possible through collecting large numbers of toolboxes and your base is only as secure as you design it to be. This requires time, collaboration and teamwork and leads to some awesome gameplay between rival clans. You can build a basic base in a couple of days and expand from there for security. Among other things you can build garages for your cars, working lighting systems, fireplaces, or water pumps. You secure an area for your base by constructing a flagpole, this stakes the area as yours. You can add your clanmates to the flagpole so they can all build and remove items. You can build keypanels that allow you to enter a code to lower access doors. You can also build booby traps which can be placed at enemy bases! Day Night Cycle with full moons and street lights Vanilla 1.8 zombies. The default zombies in dayz 1.8 are not easy! There are a lot of them and they will hit you very hard. The viral zombies can do a significant amount of damage to you. Most popular dayzmod servers completely gimp the zombies back to pre 1.8 levels. They turn the maximum number way down, and let them do so little damage you can pretty much ignore them. Unlike those servers we have left zeds completely untouched from any changes, they take some getting used to if you've come from another mod/server with noob zombies (like epoch) but our community much prefers them. Detailed server statistics available live to all of our players at http://www.zerosurvival.net/stats/ Custom Version of Chernarus, our custom map is exclusive to our server. It has been developed over many months with the aim of balancing the level. We have not simply slung a firestation and military loot in every coastal town like some mods and servers. Instead we have added new resources where they are needed and don't look out of place (NEAF, Berizino, Zelenogorsk and Kamenka). Server events, we run regular server events such as survivor games style competitions. we even have a dedicated sub forum for them. These have proved very popular and turnouts regularly reach 50 players. I code special things specially for these events to keep them as dynamic and exciting as possible. Default number of vehicles (85), we spawn new vehicles not found in vanilla dayz. However we do not spawn so many vehicles so as to devalue them. There are 2 helicopters total on our whole server. This leads to great clan fights over resources. Automated whitelisting, whitelisting for the server is as simple as registering a forum account on our website. You are instantly able to play after doing so (note: whitelisting is currently deactivated and anyone can join) Crash sites have a 30% chance to broadcast the position they have crashed to all players who have looted a radio. Only the nearest town to the crash site is given, no coordinates. This leads to great fights between different players rushing to each crash site. Small server mods to enhance gameplay, you may have seen these on other servers: dynamic crash sites, strip clothes. Besides mods like this I add small tweaks and fixes to the server regularly, you can view the changelog here. Other custom code developed by me specifically for our server, loot one of our new player skin parcels, gut humans and eat them, or if you are a hero give players a proper burial. Self Bloodbagging works, but only if the player is inside a hospital. Teamspeak server with private rooms available to all clans who use the server. We have detailed server statistics, both in your forum profile and on our website. We have a squad file generator so your squad can easily get their logo on the side of their vehicles http://www.zerosurvival.net/squads/ We have a number of different layers of anti hack protection for our server, including custom coded detection tools. We have just 1 extremely active and dedicated admin to avoid incidents of abuse.     Honestly this topic has been talked about a lot with suggestions made and as I said earlier it's just another case of them implementing a system and not tweaking it yet, which will likely come in beta. That is their whole purpose of the alpha currently, to implement systems/mechanics and then they work out the bugs/fine tune/balance later. This is also why they don't give a fuck about gun accuracy currently. We'll probably see the same issues with things like cooking, building, vehicles and all those major additions.

    Busy night last night - further additions to the base include reinforcing the compound wall with metal panels as well as wire & tank traps..nobody is coming through that! Also we've added several guard towers to give added fields of fire from fortified positions! Also added an armoured humvee with machine gun to our arsenal of vehicles!
