Once Vehicles become persistent.. a discussion

For me they have to persist. Long term survival is my goal when playing and vehicles help towards that with transport and storage. If I loose it on a restart I would rapidly stop using them for the effort/reward ratio. I don't really mind hoarders keeping it all somewhere asthey can save mea lot of work as a lone wolf. Instead of ferrying parts (hat I cant carry all of) back and forth id much rather head off into the woods and start camp hunting for a fully fixed car, maybe even some tents to load it up from. Then if im feeling mean destroy the rest (usually don't do that hehe). Also its much better to find a tent with a pick of weps and ammo than have to loot it all yourself. So even for us lone wolfs hording can be a plus. The pushbike.....meh I want it persistent....but for completely selfish reasons. Its my fave form of transport in the mod. Quiet, good offroad, no refuelling and by far the best to hide. You could hide a bike in a tree by cherno and it would still be there after a good looting session on a high pop....try that with a truck and see if its still there lol -
There is vehicles in the game now.. problem solved and i dare say thats as good as it will get har har :D

Lol, Love how Americans call a liquid "Gas" :P Yes you do. The vehicles spawn with 20 ltrs (gallons) and it takes 5 full jerry cans to fill the vehicle. The 20 litres probably provide around 10-15 mins of driving and you can cover quite a bit in that time if you aren't stopping and starting. There are plenty of jerry's, you just need to check any sort of industrial or shed like building.

What do you think hardcore survival means? Walk five minutes, get fed, find a vehicle, drive off into the sunset? You're definitely playing the wrong game from the sound of it. Working vehicles will likely be as rare, if not rarer than they are now, because in addition to fuel, you'll need various parts to get them working. And with zombies becoming more dangerous and basic survival becoming more difficult, getting a vehicle will be a distant problem.

Thats exactly why i'm a fan of adding more trucks for the time being. there will be more vehicles eventually anyway, so why not just put more in experimental until more are implemented?

Well, I'm sure that if there was a need for more data on vehices, we'd know. Personally I think it's fine the way it is. Remember this is just one of the vehicles they'll add. Once they get around to smaller things like ATVs and bikes, we'll see more than 3 per server restart.

Part of testing involves scarcity. There are enough people finding vehicles that they are getting sufficient data, and people not finding them counts as data as well.

Dude you're compeltely missing my point. I AM FOR THE SURVIVAL ELEMENT. Are you dense? Do you not get what I am trying to say? I live in the real world, where when running a business, testing a product expediently and efficiently is both time and cost effective. I COMPLETELY disagree with the OP. There should be no "fast travel easy mode" for the end product, or stable. I'm only advocating this idea for the experimental branch, dude. I'm not trying to say "OH HERP DERP WE NEED MORES VEHICLES IN STABLE CUZ IM TIRED OF RUNNING!" Jesus H Christ. I'm not even trying to argue with you. I'm trying to get you to understand what I'm trying to say. God you'd think you'd try to be a bit more sensible being new to this community. But I guess you're more interested in Braggadocio and trying to be right than discussing something like an adult.

Okay...so actually it's really not nonsense. The idea of FAST TRAVEL, like, skyrim style, yes is nonsense for this game, IMO. I will agree. but I was never advocating for that But to have experimental branch churn out MORE testing and MORE feedback? Why would the devs not welcome this? Sure they're not clamoring for it, but MORE bug reporting, finding bugs SOONER due to the fact MORE people are using the new vehicles and features? Do you not understand the positives behind MORE feedback and MORE testing? You have a larger pool to sample from, and more gets done. Have logged quite a bit of time with this game, so I am well aware of how to "insta-meet" with friends...I'm not new here, noble lol. What I am SAYING is that the idea of making the V3Ss in experimental more available and frequent can do nothing but improve gameplay experience for a vast majority of players, and increase the amount of feedback. More players get to experience the new features, in less time and more effieciently and feedback is given to devs in a much shorter time span potentially. We already know what the game is going to be like as far as survival, and we know the devs will stay true to that idea. Why not speed up the experimental testing a bit and make it easier for people to travel? The purpose of the experimental branch is not to "experience" the game as it should be, it is by and large to test the new features, report bugs, and give the devs feedback. You're completely missing the point I'm trying to make, here. I'm not trying to turn DayZ into easy mode. Please try to pay attention.

As shitty as it is sometimes, it's working as intended. The V3S makes the map small once you get one and fuel it up. I was on a server last night with only 4 players, one of which was my friend who I was with. We found a V3S in Zelenogorsk and traveled along the main road to the north and all the way around to the north east, and down the coast to Balota and then up to the military base north of Kamenka. We parked at the end of the driveway and walked into the base. In the military base we found the other 2 players in the game (they were together) and killed them both. It was the best V3S trip we've had so far, as we had it for hours without a server reset. Once they add basic vehicles such as bicycles and they are persistent, getting around will be easier early in the game. We're still a year away from Beta, there is much to come, hopefully fast travel isn't on the list.

He is getting at something, however. If it were easier to meet up and play in the experimental, more people would play it, more testing would get done, everyone wins. That wasn't expressly his point, though. But I can understand the frustration with some people. Some find enjoyment out of the struggle to meet up, others do not. It's about finding a delicate balance between the two to appeal to both parties as much as possible, IMO. I'm all for "easymode" in the experimental. Leaving it out of stable is fine, but I think it should be immensely easier to meet up in experimental as far as vehicles are concerned.

I personally think they could kill two birds with one stone by adding a larger number of vehicles in the experimental, and enable the vehicles (the V3Ss) to be refueled at gas stations as well so that players can actually use them rather easily, and test them. People travel faster A new element to the game is tested extensively Of course this would only be temporary, but I think it would be a fun concept to have half of the server rolling around in trucks, and the other half either scheming to acquire them or simply being out of luck. I think it would bring a fun element to the game play for a while in addition to garnering exponentially more feedback. However, this is not a popular idea as people see it as "easy mode" and "care bear mode" to some people.

OK no more unhelpful answers. This is the mod forum and the guy is asking about the mod NOT the standalone. If you don't know the answer then don't post unhelpful childish replies or I will remove them. Ejoe, take a look in the menus within the game and you will see their are tabs at the top regarding which buttons to use for movement, and another about using vehicles etc.

Am I dreaming? -it's not unrealistic, if a Zombie apocalypse had to happen in real life, do you think Zombies would kiss you? just watch TWD, they bite and kill you. So their amount of damage is pretty damn realistic. - of course, they want you dead, they ain't gonna stop after the first bite -not true. Zombies are not the real danger in DayZ, bandits are. If you have trouble against the zombies in DayZ my friends, then I'm sorry to tell you that you're a bambi and you don't stand a chance against a mean player like me. You just need to run, or hide into a bush or a pine tree and they can't bite you no more, and if you don't know that, well, you're the worse bambi I've ever seen. I Suggest you guys go back to Standalone where there's no zombies, 1 vehicles and 2 weapons and have a good time farming cherno, elektro and balota ;). One last thing; have you ever seen the North? -
Apparently I'm going to have to explain this at length for you. In order to continue to refuel currently you have to have a gas canister. Right now they aren't just popping up all over the place. I've found one maybe in the past 30 hours of gameplay or so. My "RAMBLING" is point out that if you're going to implement something WILDLY new into the game such as vehicles, it's better to make it so that they can be driven far and often, so as to iron out any bugs and test them extensively. Gas station refueling would be a good temporary measure to make sure that vehicles are being used and tested That's the whole point of the alpha. Oh and btw, how are you carrying around that jerry can there, surf? I'm SURE it's in your bag, right? You keep enough space in your bag for that jerry can, yeah? Totally.

I understand your concerns, to be quite honest. After playing the standard game for a while people naturally get bored of being forced to get gear so they can PvP again. I believe that this is why the vast majority of player gravitate towards "1000+ VEHICLES" servers. This is slightly off-topic but, if something isn't done to make the basic/vanilla game more enticing it will die after modding/mission support is added. People don't seem to like hardcore survival where hours/days/months of investment can be lost to a single hacker, sniper or bug. -

So I got back into the mod past few days. Spent my first 2 days getting a car fixed then the next day getting a heli fixed and moving them both back to camp. My plan for today was to refuel the heli, and do some loot runs, hopefully find a tent so my vehicles weren't primary storage and I could take them out more. Well, I log in and instantly my heart sinks. Heli isnt in the clearing, some bastard ribbed me. Im fully aware that my truck will be gone aswell and I start telling myself at least you took all the dmr ammo and food before you logged. Now here is the funny bit....I always keep my heli empty of gear bar 3 jerrys and a hose. Everything else lives in the car. The car had all my guns, ammo, meds ect in it and was sandwiched between 2 pine trees 20 feet away from the heli. There eyes must have lit up at seeing the heli....and they have flown off leaving the UAZ and all my loot intact :D God bless pine trees :)

Anyone feel the .52 nerf to the V3S was too much?

I don't really know how the vehicles are coded in but it seems to be that the V3 has no torque. It accelerates like crap and if you try and start on a hill or or climb a hill with little starting momentum you're in trouble. I've also never driven a real version of these trucks but for argument's sake, I believe the V3 is a little underpowered at this time. In my opinion at least, it should be able to handle hills a lot better. I think the top speed is decent where it is though. I do think the "brakes" need some further investigation too. -

Bumpity bump, new stuff! [11/17/2014] [+]Added build vectors, tested and seems to work fine without interfering with other mods (but please report if you find any bugs relating to this, vehicle paint and/or plot management). [12/2-6/2014] [+]Changed the ai mission system to one that works better and has crates and ai that can have overpoch weapons (Including on a rare occasion the un suppressed cheytech) reduced amount of ai at missions but increased difficulty. [+]Reconfigured roaming ai so there's not as many spawning every where, spotting distance increased by a ton,set ai to shoot zombies,made ai groups hostile to other ai groups (im sure this is goona be fun tell me your comments below LOL),made it so only 2 heli patrols at any given time. I wanted to know when did the zombies took over Chernarus, because...there's no power in the country. Technically (at least according to a documental on history channel) it would take around 2 months for the power to completely run out without the intervention of men. And since there are no burning cars in the street, highways are not clogged with little camps and rusted vehicles, the buildings are not barricaded, there are no corpses laying around the place and it looks pretty clean overall for a zombie apocalypse I thought there should be power (at least in most areas, not all) like inside houses, on the street, the gas station, and so on. Besides other many many thing that should be around a zombie apocalypse (like burning cars and buildings, police barricades in the middle of the road, rotting corpses in the streets. etc). Here are some examples This is not a suggestion, is just some curiosity about the power system, lore and envoirement about the game :)
