  1. Hello, Everyone. It may seem that I've been neglecting the server, which is true to a point. But work has been continuing, though at a much slower speed then I would have liked. Unfortunately a death in the family lead to work being halted for a while. But! I am back and I'm more pumped then ever. Now to the good stuff, after having fucked over my Boot drive and losing my main back ups, I took it as an opportunity to clean up my code and create something amazing. The bad news, is it's not ready yet. I'm still bug testing/fixing, and one of the major additions seems to be causing some pretty weird database glitches. What I have done is completely scrapped the old AI Missions system due to pretty crappy bugs and replaced it with a brand spanking new one! So that's live and running now, though I will add it to the official ChangeLog when it's released. I've also been listening to / And taking suggestions from our Clients, who I must say appear to be a very creative bunch of people. After having taken in all the feedback I've received I have decide to take the server down a more PVP enabled route, I'm going to be adding Randomised weapon loadouts for fresh spawns,(Possibly a "Choose Your own Spawn" system). I'll be adding more weapon spawns to the coast areas, as well as adding more weapons and armoured vehicles to the database. all in all, I'm sort of making it an un official Overpoch server. But don't worry, It's still Epoch, Base building and survival will still be the main aspects, but hey, what fun is that without a little drama? That's all I'm going to drop for now, I'll save the rest for the ChangeLog which (if all goes well) should be up by Friday Morning! Thank you for reading, I hope I didn't bore you. -FluffiestPond

    Absolutely not. This is just as bad as wanting to spawn in with friends. Do you also want fast travel ? would you care for vehicles to spawn in front of you once you earn a kill streak too ?

    I think what many "gun enthusiasts" need to understand is, that a lot of people don't share their hobby and don't care too much whether a gun is chambered in 7.62x51 or 7.62x54 or whatever. Don't get me wrong, I am all for comprehensive and harsh gameplay that is as realistic as possible. And i assume most of the above mentioned people are as well. However they don't share your enthusiasm about rifles, pistols, cartridges etc.... Streamlining a few calibers does not mean dumbing down the game. It means sacrificing some realism for other parts of the gameplay. While realism to a certain extent is very important to a game like this, it is still a game and a balance has to be found. If the game was as accurate in all other aspects as you want it to be in the gun department it would become very complicated and bloated. And now that would mean dumbing down the game. Just think about the aforementioned fishing, then carring items, the upcoming vehicles, sleeping and other bodily functions, damage and health system, melee combat.......

    How would you combat player suicide?

    So I can get a berezino, or NEAF spawn, suicide and have a guaranteed spawn there for an hour? Sounds like an even better way to promote death matching the cities. I don't see how suicide is a problem, the only arguable point in this thread against it is that it takes up resources producing extra bodies. The fix to that would be something along the lines of limiting how many corpses each player can have at a time, then starting to delete the earliest one. The problem then arises of dying in a fight, and suiciding 5x or whatever the limit is as fast as you can to deny the person who you killed you, your items. To be fair, that would probably take long enough for the guy to loot you, and you'd probably get a spawn you actually want to keep in that time any ways. Bottom line is as long as random spawns exist, people will suicide. You can't take away fall damage or you open up a ton of potential exploits. You can't make it so it just breaks your legs, because you can simply reclimb the ladder and fall off again. You can't make it so you can't climb ladders with broken legs because now you've just fucked up a bunch of legitimate people's game, and potentially gotten them stuck. The game can't differentiate the player's intent, so it's impossible to design a simple that knows you were intentionally trying to suicide and punish you for it without punishing people legitimately getting fucked. There is no good answer to suiciding, besides implementing more methods for groups to meet up. Vehicles were already mentioned and will help a great deal. Perhaps something could be tied into base building eventually, and I believe the devs have even mentioned talks of that. Making the actual spawns more appealing would be good too, a lot of spawns out right suck. Incentives, not punishment. Also, could really do without the sensationalism in the OP.     How would you combat player suicide?

    how do these players restrict your playstyle? i have the feeling, that 80% of the people out there play dayz to pvp with friends. so these are probebaly the roof jumper. what do you think how long will they play this game, when they get a restriction to play with their friends? its not fun for them to get shot and then invest 30-45 minutes to get back to your friends. i think the suicide will reduce itself, after some vehicles are implemented.

    A bike helmet would be a hilarious addition, but I don't think it many people would seriously use it. It's like the child backpack of protective head gear. Other than probably not getting knocked out by punches on the top of your head, it would be completely useless. On the topic though, Rocket said they will use the same attachment system on vehicles too, so yes, everything can be done, except the frame. I guess the vehicle itself will be the frame. I think brake blocks probably will be a changeable part on top of the wheels. Adding too much things is just gonna get abused, people would take the chain, the pedals and shit to their inventories before logging out and you pretty much could just stare at it, or break it's wheels

This allows the team to control the rarity of individual items not just per server, but for every single player no matter where they live. "We'll say there can only be, for example, a hundred night-vision goggles in the whole world across all servers," Hall explains. "Then, once your character dies, or that item gets destroyed, it makes a new one available to spawn on a server." The rarity of an item will be defined by its function. Specialist military gear, such as night-vision goggles, logically wouldn't be found as often as a can of baked beans. Hall wants players to hear rumours that a particular player on a particular server has found some of this specialist gear, which could lead to a kind of lore and reputation building up around such servers. And if you are the person who has found such an item, you'll start playing differently to hold onto it for as long as possible. "What we'd see is, particularly when we get into vehicles, or components for helicopters that are very rare and are controlled centrally so there can only be a certain amount of helicopters in every server in the whole world, that would mean that if you hear there's a working helicopter on a particular server, you'll want to go to that server," he adds. Hall predicts that the team will need to add a new server cluster dedicated to controlling this persistent loot economy. But the introduction of extreme rarity and the reputation surrounding players with such items is an important step toward adding more opportunities for emergent storytelling to take place. The team also discussed methods of bringing the notion of changing servers into the gameworld itself, such as walking to the edge of the map loading you into a new server on the other side. "But obviously we need to make a lot of maps for that, and it takes many years because they're huge, hand-made maps," says Hall. "We talked about procedural generation, but it was going to be so much effort that, before we looked at that, we needed to do all our architectural work first." Ok, maybe someone can explain how exactly this reputation from another server helps "emergent storrytelling"? What storytelling is he talking about? Because the only thing I see is even more motivation for server hopping - which is already a big problem that is NOT being solved in its roots. Why should there be economy between servers? In Rust or 7 Days to Die you cannot bring your loot to another server. You change server, you start with nothing, no server hopping for loot, everyone is happy. Is it not a viable solution for DayZ? Why? What if someone gets a hold on night vision goggles and goes offline? What if he dies in the woods under a bush? Will that pair of goggles remain with him forever and not spawn on this or any other server again until he goes online and gets killed? What is the logic behind this? If we have abundant respawning food and ammo, appearing just out of nowhere (which already means no realistic economy), why should night goggles get limited this way? Or maybe Rocket wants players to server hop even more in search of rare items? Is it a game about server hopping for rare items?

    Epoch server?

    Check TLC servers. Among the pile of s**t that most epoch servers are nowadays (like MGT and CCG), TLC servers are the most balanced, trying to give the player some work to get geared up. There's no op weapons or vehicles and good weapons are harder to find. Try it out. I play on NAPF, come over whenever you can.

    The best base spots in Chernarus

    well, the best overwatch spots to build your base on that are close to the coast is the solnichy quarry (the big cliff beside the city), pusta's mountain, barn north of power plant, etc. In the end it's all about finding the place that suits more your playstile. If you like to snipe people off, put a safe and some sandbags on a elektro or cherno's tower and be happy, if you like to hoard vehicles and gear, put your base as much into the woods that you can.
  16. 1-scavenge parts from wrecked vehicles with tools, screwdriver, Lug wrench etc.. to repair your own, not finding it on warehouses. 2-Make a house of your own, from the world, not a city one, lock it, block the windows with plywood, use the refrigerator or cupboard to store food and items, hearth like a fire source etc... Sounds more post apocalyptic than build alone a complex house, theres a lot out there, just take it and make it yours. U need a lock and a key. No traders or safe zones will be needed! 3-Blind or reduce vision throwing sand or dirt. 4-Deaf or reduce hearing by shooting without protection. Sorry about my basic english 5-(NEW) wardrobe like a container with lot of clothes of all kinds! hats, boots, t shirts, etc... Why only a pair of pants or a t shirt per house!

    I'm waiting for; Vehicles A better food system (more diseases, more need for food when working out much, like running, you'll need to drink a lot more when running through the woods) Some things need to be fixed (suppressors.................) More content :D But I love this game already :lol:

  19. This post is mainly about my assessment of what makes the NWAF a unique place and how we use what we learn here to recreate similar experiences in other places. For a Zombie infested wasteland that is the sandbox for Dayz, we all know and love, Skalitsy island has always held a unique place in my heart. Think about the pilgrimage we all make to the North West airfield, the holy grail of high end military loot and at the same time the grave for many a careless player. It holds a certain character as a difficult to access treasure trove of wonderful military weapons and loot. The place is an open airfield surrounded by a thin fence and wide open fields on all sides with no cover. One has to cross all that open space in order to reach the airfield, further in the distance are thick foilage and woods giving ample spots for snipers to hide and prey on helpless survivors endeavouring to make their journey safely while in the few small indoor spaces ambushes were often prepared. We could find anything from the best Rifles to vehicles, Night vision googles and the best bagpacks no wonder the NWAF is such a popular place. To the experienced and advanced player, we would remember every small rock and bush that offered the tiniest bit of concealment to increase our chances of coming out of a loot raid alive. Some of us even go to the trouble of waiting till nightfall to make our journey there. We practice and memorize routes to take and specific angles to cover and watch for every step we make on the small trip from the boundary of the safe treeline to where the loot spawns. Manoeuvring your way in the airfield is quite different than in elektro because all the time our destination is focused on the loot spawns of the airfield, and players are more focused on making it there safely than engaging in a fight. The NWAF is a frequently visited place and death match arena. Because of this we have mixed reactions of anxiety, fear, anticipation and most prominently greed for all the wonderful loot and vehicles that can be found there(refering to the mod). Many of us cannot doubt that most of our best and most exciting moments are achieved at or around the NWAF, take a look on youtube and you will see at least a good half of them take place at airfields. Without the airfields both West and East, alot of fun will be missing and Dayz will be significantly more boring. I believe the next place the map designers have to look at to create this dangerous journey filled with suspense and paranioa like the journey to the NWAF is Skalitsy island. It has unique characteristics as an unaccessible geographical location that quite frankly has plenty of neglected potential for kickass game and map design. First of all it is an island, AND you have to cross the sea to get there. Right now it is a very small distance offshore and rather easy to swim to. The thing is, you have to swim there. I think the journey of swimming there can be made a very special and rewarding one if we design it correctly. There has to be a way we can design the journey by sea to the island into a journey just as exciting and adventurous as the journey to the NWAF. I'm not saying we turn it into a high value loot spawn area because that would just make an easy location for anyone with the proper vehicle to farm loot with no risk or danger of PvP battles. Skalisy island is just an example of a place with the potential to be turned into a place that offers the same fun that running back and forth from NWAF does. I want ideas to make places into legendary attractions with focus on making the journey to reach them exciting and adrenaline filled. WHAT CAN WE DO? WHAT CAN WE CHANGE IN THE MAP? Tavania was an interesting place, oil rigs located offshore only accessible by boat or air with the highest possible loot value spawn. At the same time it couldnt be used as a base to hide away your helicopter because it is visible for miles around
  20. Not only vehicles and base building though. In the mod, if you didn't get lucky and take out a fully kitted bandit, it took weeks to gather all of the top end gear in the game, in DayZ retail it only takes a few hours. Once there are more weapons and items the game will have more of a natural progression to it. Also, once weather actually has adverse effects and disease is implemented I think the game will be much more interesting.

    Tents (persistent storage) barricading, base building, vehicles/maintenance of said vehicles, farming forming community, improved zombies ect ect.
  23. A lot of people are just waiting for more content to be added, which is fair enough really. I don't play much at the minute. Once vehicles and base building are added and general survival is made more difficult I'll play a lot more.

Right now we are evolving the server everyday with new mods and more fun stuff. All of the people on the server get high fps and no lag. We have a great community with some great admins. Now on to admins. I personally make sure EVERY admin is doing there job correctly and helping players and NOT annoying them. If you want to do everything legit and never even see an admin we will stay out of your way and let you have fun. On the other hand if you want a little help to get going the second you join the server you will be welcomed and you will have a build kit available if you would like it. The Hemp Reward system is a system that I put together myself where if you find hemp field on the map you can collect it and buy cool vehicles and a ton of other stuff. I think it will add an extra bit of fun.
