  1. It's mainly related to referencing. The thing that broke DC, fixed characters (your avatar survives your disconnection). I switched to a new method of referencing tents that is more robust, but figuring out when a tent inventory has changed is problematic. Also, getting my new referencing method (generating a UID out of the position and orientation) has some issues, so "word isn't getting through" On a non-busy server it works. On a busy one, it seems that it generates the UID before it can set the orientation. Meaning that the UID is wrong. Changes in 1.5.5 should fix this. The messages get through, but it has the wrong UID. So I hope this fixes it. Vehicles are a bit more complex, cause those fuckers move.

    Whats your Reason?

Wanna know my reason?, simple less survivors more supplies, weaponry, and vehicles..im taking chernarus..
  3. Tents and vehicles can only stay on the server you left it. When i repaired my first police car i hid it away when i needed to log, and used it as a bonus storage for loot. I always play EU7 And only log off somewhere near where i hid my car. So i know where to find it agian.

Bases, vehicle ideas and spawn beacons.

Oh, yes. I also forgot one thing: I would also like rare spawns of military grade stuff around military vehicles (the crashed/burned out HMWWs everywhere)

FR1 Lag fixed , Chopper gone...

Vehicles are still missing :'( Where be our helicopter Q.Q
  6. FR1 restarted again (just now) but the vehicles are still missing..

    The PvP Discussion Thread

I've said it before and I'll say it again, while it's good to have plenty of opinions, you can expect twenty tonnes of butthurt testing a feature in an open alpha :p The other issue is somehow encouraging people to choose less-than-desirable traits for the sake of the group. Because 95% of players are playing by themselves, it is highly unlikely they will ever choose to be the 'group medic', unless it has definite bonuses to themselves. I believe the best way to balance this is to make sure every bonus has an equal selfish bonus and selfless bonus. From a gameplay perspective, this passively encourages teamwork: The player will see he has a friendly bonus and will often be compelled to use it. (I tested this with a few projects I've been involved with. It's surprising to see how often someone will do something purely because 'My class can do it, and noone else can!') It's important that the 'nudge' to groups is passive: You want to be subtle, not have a metaphorical big glowing sign saying "GET IN GROUPS!" As a purely on-the-spot example: (As an example of seperate Selfish / Selfless abilities): Medic: - 2 x Speed Bandaging Self (Selfish) - Half as long knockdown time (Selfish) - 2 x Speed Bandaging Others (Selfless) - Extra blood given to others on transfusions (Selfless) (As an example of combined Selfish / Selfless abilities): Engineer: - May repair certain vehicles (everything but the chopper) with just a toolkit If this makes sense.

    DayZ Update 1.5.4

All vehicles start unrepaired and empty (But fully feueled). If you find a semi-repaired vehicle, that's thanks to someone else's work. ;)
  9. Roger, im workin on it, real sorry the tents + vehicles are in such a state... going to get that fixed. Also the bandit switching should now be fixed (in 1.5.5)
  10. The other players are reporting all vehicles are gone :)
  11. Seems were not the only one. More people are reporting dissapearing tents backpacks and vehicles.
  12. Tents didn't save equipment on US2, DE1 and NY4 servers. Vehicles disappeared after server restart on DE1 and NY4 servers. Nothing works.
  13. For now, I am taking a break from DayZ, out of two reasons. My bachelor paper, and out of lack of security. I feel like the main problem with the mod is how insanely unforgiving it is. I like the tention it gives, being afraid to die. But as it is now, dying means loosing hours and hours of gameplay, maybe even days. I think that is a bit to harsh. The reason for this is simple, alot of people will play the game, collect awsome gear and then die. After that, they don't care too play anymore due to the intense amount of work that went into aquiring all that gear. There is a few things that can help this out though. Here is a list of things I would like to see with this mod: 1: The ability to make hideouts and encampments! There is slight indications that this is turning into reality, with the focus on fences and so forth. I really, really like where that thing is going. Having a base of operations, where you can store gear, have an armory, have a garage etc would be great. This also provides some interesting PvP elements. But as I see it, there is one requirement for this to work, it should not be possible to loot other peoples bases when they are not online. If you somehow could bound a base too several players, counting for the group that runs the base, that would be great. When those players are online, the base can be looted. This forces a compromize when going to scavange. Do you leave 5 guys to guard the base, and form a hunting team of 3, or do all go? But to loose everything in the base due to the fact that no one was online is just stupid. Let containers be locked when the owning player is off line. When he is online, it's possible for everyone to loot it, and by doing that it is possible also for his friends to acess his gear. This way, people can slowly but surely build up an armory between them selves, with scattered gear throughout several players containers. When you die, you loose your gear as you do today, but have a place to go to for restocking. Oh, and of course, if all the guys leave the base, the base can be looted by whomever! The other thing that would be a huge advantage, is to be able to place spawn points and form formal factions. When you play together with someone and die, you'd often have to walk for miles and miles to catch up. For me, I've spendt countless hours just walking in the woods, alone with no real gameplay. I don't want this to turn into a hiking simulator, even though I find Chernarus to be a beutifull place. And yeah, vehicles should be a bit more common, at least cars. That I say out of a realism point of view. Most people have cars, and most people don't set their car on fire when there is trouble around. Allmost all of zombie fiction depicts roads filled with abandoned cars, making traveling by car extremely difficult. I'm not saying that they should be around every corner, but a bit more common. Remember, car's arent really that useful anyway. They make alot of noise, and attracts other players as well as zombies. They are also extremely fragile, and if the spawning beacons actually happens, they are of limited value anyhow. They CAN be used tacticly however, as a tool for a fast in, fast out sweeping and for attacking encampments, but even for that, they aren't that good. Choppers, on the other hand, can still be rare. Choppers are insanely handy, and should thus be hard to come by. Or, as another suggestion, uping both chopper and car availability, make fuel more rare a commodity. You might have that fancy truck, able to fit all of your friends, but have fuel only for one trip. You can have all the cars in the world for that matter, and it won't help you at all, if you don't have fuel. Lastly, the hideout or base element would also maybe encourage trade with other factions, often at gun point, as long as we get a fix for the comms. Servers might come with ACRE and TS-servers if must be. If ACRE is implemented, radios should be rare, but not impossible to come buy. Civilians might have them as well, and of course police, health care and fire department. Happy hunting guys!

    Should we scrap bandit models?

I say yes, vehicles and stable tents are much more important things to handle. (Oh yeah, poll doesn't work)
  15. Malaclypse

    Bandit tips?

I'd say, get into it. Stalk your prey for a long time without being seen. If possible, wait for him to go afk or look at a map and rob his pack without him noticing- real bandit skills are stealing without ever having to fire a shot. Or follow a group around from it's beginning, forming on the sandy shores of Chernarus, traveling inland, finding better guns, ammo, talking to eachother in side-chat about their next move. Watch them find a tent and set up camp, watch them bring vehicles back to said camp in time. Raid it when they leave!
  16. Malaclypse

    No Group play?

Disagree. My friends and I have spawned all over the map from eachother, and even after the tent/vehicle wipe of 1.5.4 have managed to find one another with relative ease (browser maps of Chernarus are rad) even during the night, and set up a camp with vehicles floating around. I will admit that it's somewhat more difficult to meet up with other pubby players, but again, browser maps or just having a good existing knowledge of Chernarus are rad. I've seen countless groups of randoms locate eachother over side-chat, work together to move north, and ultimately get ganked by the Bandits who were working together to follow them!

    DayZ Update 1.5.4

    Are the vehicles back yet????
  18. Yep, Dallas 1 server, put a tent down, put a few items in to see if they would stay, logged off for the night, came back the next day, items are gone. However, Vehicles are persistent and the items stay inside them it seems.
  19. Hey, liking the server so far. Although I have been kicked once without explanation, I assumed it was because my ping had gone up a bit, but I never received a warning or anything. I'm actually from IL and live about 4 hours south of Chicago but I don't have the fastest/most reliable internet connection simply because it is not offered where I live (out of town). Most the time I have a solid ping, but I get desinc'd pretty often it seems, even when my ping is low. This seems strange considering I live as close as I do and my ping is fine. Other than that and seeing a few people complain about new people not knowing how to do anything rather than just telling them how to do it, Pretty good time so far, and great luck finding vehicles so far lol. See ya in there. Also, Mojo you should check out the server teamspeak thread, I think by Soldier, there is a TS3 server that will give any server a channel for free, then whoever was playing in your server could get in the team speak server if they wanted to use voip.
  20. I was initially against the whole anti PVP thing, but lately its getting worse and worse. If someone kills you for your gear, your weapon etc fine. That's understandable, its survival and you had the better weapon or food or they were desperate, I get that and that's what this game is about. But now every American sever and now the NZ server in the few hours its on is being RUINED by people who just kill for points. No gathering items, no getting better weapons, they just find a spot, sit there and snipe anyone they see without warning. Whats the point of the game if all you do is get murdered by random people? I've played this game since its release, I know to avoid the major cities like the plague, but it doesn't stop some PKing little shit ruining it for everyone else who wants to play it the proper way, survival. Who wants to quietly creep through a town, avoiding Z's to get some few precious supplies only to be shot by some jerk who wandered into or was camping the area and saw you (who incidentally wasnt visible when you scout the town before going in). They bee line for the military camps or airports, get the DMR etc and just sit there shooting anyone who comes into sight. They camp the coastal spawn zones shooting people as they spawn in, fire indiscriminately at people who have nothing of value, no one spawns in? They move to another spawn zone and wait there. I spawned in and SPRINTED for the woods, non stop running to get the hell out of the area, within a minute bullets whizzing past me as two PKers took pot shots at me. They don't play the game, they don't do the survival thing, they don't even loot, they get rifles, hide and kill anyone. This is not what this mod was about. These people are ruining the game for everyone else, defeating the purpose of sneaking, eliminating those tense moments when you meet someone in the wild and slowly approach to trade. The game is no longer enjoyable and I LOVED this mod. As always some little shits ruined it for the majority. The Aussie/NZ servers were great, you could go in, travel around, see someone, announce, meet up trade food (or gunfight if they shoot back), chat and head on your way, now all you do is avoid everyone and risk getting PK'd for having a fire to cook some meat or crawling through a town to get some water/supplies. Evening travelling in groups is no longer fun. You spend hours getting supplies, repairing vehicles and setting up a camp - whats that? Some little shit saw you and your friends in a town and just shot at you all for no reason then ran off? Bandit skins were an idea, no FF will not work as it ruins the tense moments of meeting someone. I don't know, have a script that shows where these jerks are on the map or HUD markers who have more than say 5 friendly kills in a set time frame or more than 10 friendly kills etc. Either way the game is ruined because of these people.

Any Military Vets Around that want to Group Up?

Hey,i am not a veteran. Hope you guys dont mind. Have some idea to set up an army ingame, where we build our headquarters, store our vehicles/stuff etc. etc. From there we can form squads with leaders and go on patrol missions to gain more equipment and vehicles. To start a war against zombies and other militias. It is an idea, maybe you guys and others with me feel the same and it would be a nice roleplaying ingame as well.

    Vehicles degrade too fast imo

Vehicles don't "degrade" by themselves. Learn how to drive before complaining about broken code :)

    Couple questions

    1. You find a flat, clear area. Use your scroll-wheel and you'll get an option to put it down. 2. Tents can be looted by other players, but only on the server that you put it down. Your tent stays on the server it's placed in, so keep note of that. However, other players cannot "pick up" your tent. Only you can pick it up, but everyone can access it. 3. Find matches. Again, find a flat, clear space to place it, and scroll wheel. Select "make fireplace", then "light fire" once it's placed. 4. The only vehicles you will find in game, currently, AFAIK, are boats, civilian cars and pickups, light transport trucks (UAZ's, land rovers, etc. No Humvee's AFAIK), and transport helicopters. For land vehicles, 9 times out of 10 they are completely destroyed. They appear to be completely drivable, but without tires. When you jump in, you'll normally find everything to be damaged. For a standard car to function properly, you need engine parts, fuel tank parts, 4 tires (wise to keep one or two for spare, in case you break one), and scrap metal for the body, if it's damaged. You also need Jerry Cans to fill up the car. One jerry can fills about 1/5th of fuel. Pumps at gas stations don't work, but there are large tanks at gas stations that you need to siphon fuel from. Just have an empty jerry can and use your scroll wheel on the large tanks. [EDIT] Ninja'd, fuck :\
  24. How do i set up tents? And can they be looted by other players, also fires, how do i set them up? I understand barricades can be taken down and rebuilt with toolkits. Also vehicles, how do i repair one, and what parts do for example, a HMMWV or w/e need?
  25. Least this is the experience I've had with them. Found a mint condition motorcycle, drive it for barely 10 minutes and the tires are already red and need to be replaced. What is the point in even keeping the bike when I can't drive it even town to town without it breaking down Cars aren't as bad as bikes but they are still shitty. Go from a full tank of gas in a 'everything is fixed car' to barely 25% gas left after driving around 60km? What? I don't mind the vehicle system as it is currently I just think they need a buff when it comes to durability and fuel consumption
