Thanks for the Bus ride
eightiesmullet replied to eightiesmullet's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was crawling along some coastal village and I heard the toot of a horn. It went past and I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing. I had heard that all the vehicles were horded off map my clans. I crouch-ran to the road and waited. The bus came back and I stood up and saluted...... The bus came to a halt and I jumped on. It sounds stupid but this small thing was a beautiful break from the grinding paranoia that sometimes accompanies a session of DayZ. If I ever come across a bus, guess what I will use my life doing? -
I agree that the spawn rate of guns and ammo is irrelevant. In the short run, yes, it has an impact. In the long run, organized groups will have farmed the loot drops to the point where they have this stuff stashed away in vehicles and tents to the point of stupidity. Relying on spawn rate to 'balance' something is idiotic and completely unreliable. It's like adding an overpowered, expensive item to an MMO and expecting the price to balance it. See: CCP and supercapitals in EVE Online. I haven't come across these weapons one way or the other yet, so I won't pass judgement, but if you can't come up with any arguments for them except the drop rate of them and their ammunition, then I can say immediately that something is wrong.

Vehicles will save on there own, usually when a player gets out of them or when it takes damage. "Save" just forces the vehicle to save at that exact moment, please note that vehicle damage rounds, for example if the hull is light yellow it will round back to green on server restart.
-
...discovered last night that you get a VERY satisfying "crunch and "argugghh" when you run over other survivors with vehicles. Driving the coastal road to pickup some teammates who had respawned in Elektro, squashed would be hitchhikers along the side of the road. A+++ will do again.

DayZ Staff are overlooking administrative abuse...
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Spartan36's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Vehicles in motion need to be saved to the hive more often first of all so that a server restart cannot roll a vehicle back to a safe point. Also' date=' anyone entering or exiting a vehicle should save it's position and state as well. Fresh player corpses need to be stored on the hive so that a server restart cannot clear loot and prevent a victorious player from claiming their loot from a defeated admin. Server locking should be disabled in all but the most extreme cases. Any request to lock a server or any server locked for greater than 5 minutes should be immediately flagged for audit and review by moderators. Server restarts should be scheduled. 15 minutes in advance at least and announced with messages on the server. Any [i']unscheduled or unannounced reboots should be subject to investigation by moderators. (I get that instability would make that an insurmountable task at the moment, but they could still run random audits on the logs). Servers with many, frequent unscheduled reboots should be blacklisted. Staff should publish server statistics on reboots, crashes, average uptime, average ping etc. so the community can review server stats and make educated choices about the servers they frequent. -
I have a mission if you choose to accept it. Go on their teamspeak server and join their group as my undercover agent. As soon as you find the location of their group and their vehicles, you will turncoat and kill them, and then we will take their vehicles.

Totally agreeing with you here' date=' am all for making the game so hard that every casual undesirable ragequits but apparently saying that stamps you out as "hardcore realism maniac who doesn't know how to have fun". Anyway, I agree with that opinion. I dont, I want those gone, dont get me wrong. That sounds like a really boring way to play the game. My last two survivors have been alive for 15 days and 11 days respectively, and I haven't been to the NWAF on either character. It's the Cherno of the north at this point. I get all the weapons, supplies and vehicles I need elsewhere. Again, yes, it sounds boring to you, it sounds boring to me too and am not saying I do that. I just sort-of understand the reasons it's so common and happens so often. I did my best to elaborate the said reasons. That's the great thing about DayZ. You don't have to care why other people do what they do. The presence of rampant PK and unrestricted PvP, regardless of the motivation, makes everything else you do in the game more interesting and dramatic. I don't "hunt" other players though I will absolutely kill them if they wander into my territory. I've had ~6 murders in the past 30 days. By no means a lot. But everything ELSE I've done in the game - every vehicle I've built, town I've looted, trip I've made etc. has been far more intense and interesting because the whole time I knew that at any moment I might come under fire from a homicidal maniac. The game is more interesting when there are people trying to kill you all the time. Who cares WHY they do it? Again, yes, the constant fear adds greatly to the game. But like every good thing it can be overdone and _at the moment_ there's too much blatant killing. So much actually that you don't even have to go through that little internal debate to decide whether to shoot the guy or not. Contrary to populary belief noobshore, cherno and elektro are actually safest places in the world and only places where you can actually hope to meet people who don't instantly shoot you. If your goal is not to survive, there's no incentive to DO ANYTHING. What do you expect the game to do, play itself for you? I don't even understand what you're lobbying for. That's bit old argument tbh. As I already stated in my original post survival is piss easy in this game. Just find basic tools and water bottle and head off to wilderness. You can die of old age there but there's no fun in it, even to most hardcore survivalist I'd bet. Survival is bonus, real goal is to find stuff, get into thrilling situations and all that stuff. Am not lobbying for anything really, I just understand why such a big percentage of the player base has no interest in general survival and insteads chooses the FFA sandbox which I personally despise. Personally I mainly mind my own business, trying to survive but occasionally taking needless risks when I feel bored. My char's survival is not really a factor then. At the moment I'm just roaming the noobshore hunting for those FFA-lamers with my relatively high-end gear. I naturally don't want to lose it and that's my main motivation to survive but I'll still try to do my little bit to slightly improve the overall experience for all the righteous :p Anyways, footie time now, match has begun. Hope my main point came thru. -

BUS DRIVER'S UNION MEETS BLOODY TRAVELS CHERNARUS - Two members of [bUS] met with an unfortunate fate last night as a routine vehicle scavenging run became anything but routine. Travelocity, co-founder of the Bus Driver's Union, accompanied with navigator Driver, was engaged in a daily route to Vybor, a known bus spawn location. ►As the Union members exited the Northwest airfield towards Vybor, a hostile group of five bandits emerged from the nearby brush and immediately opened fire on the neutral vehicle, a [bUS]-owned S1203 van. In response, Travelocity made great efforts towards evading the attackers but their shotgun and assault rifle bullets proved too much for the fragile civilian-vehicle hull, ultimately stopping and exploding the van and its passengers. ►"It was unbelievable. We were just on a regular run in normally peaceful territory, looking for engine parts and repairable vehicles to add to our fleet, when out of nowhere came these heartless raiders, intent on taking our [meager] supplies. Sadly, we lost the numbers game in that confrontation, as five guns beats one paper-thin hull," said Travelocity. ►Travelocity was immediately vaporized in the fiery combustion, but Driver was able to escape the wreckage within a mere inch of his life, and bandage his wounds in the nearby barn. With nothing to lose and a friend to avenge, Driver took to the offensive and crippled the bandit regime with clever use of the surrounding terrain and the long-range combative capability of the AK74 KOBRA, a gun passed down from previous [bUS] members who were lost in similar bandit raids. ►"The KOBRA was the favourite weapon of the deceased co-founder, Andrew, who met his end at the wrong side of a sniper rifle, in the uptown apartments of Chernogorsk. We kept it in our [bUS] coffers until the day I decided to do his legacy justice and put down those who would choose to interfere with the everyday business of the Union," said Driver. ►After looting the beneficial tools of his fallen antagonists, Driver fled to the secret [bUS] Depot to recoup the organizations' losses and prepare to meet future members of the Union, who, along with a reborn leader, will continue to not let ruthless attacks destroy the will to drive hapless survivors from the forests of Kamenka to the mountains of Olsha.

Hmmmm, I think this would probably be difficult ot implement. I think way too many vehicles are already hidden by people. The keys idea is fucking lame as fuck.

Yeah wow, this game never ends dude. 1. Assault a town 2. Recover/Repair vehicles 3. Move your camp 4. Take someone elses camp. 5. Look for downed helicopters. 6. Find new and inventive ways to travel. 7. Respond to bandit reports and defend survivors. Any number of ways to play it out.

Heme (DayZ) replied to lukasforeals's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There really aren't that big benefits for your average dayz'er tbh. Keyword, average. The most commonly noted benefits are better protection, blood bags, more carry space, easier to fix up vehicles etc..But your average dayz'er wont give rats ass for those. Why bother hiking all the way to NWAF for meagre chance of finding moderate loot with high chance of dying when you can just find the nearest low end gun and start popping everyone you see. If you die you lose nothing really, you can find new gun easy enough and start over. Persistency and general sandboxing appeal to some but not all and while I agree that those undesirables should find another game to mess around there'll always be griefers who pull the sandbox -, "survival of the fittest"- or other lame card when you question their actions. And this is just the griefer dudes, big part of even the more sensible playerbase (I'd say at least, dont quote me on this) don't want to bother with grouping, vehicles and stuff because it simply doesn't appeal to them. I mean vehicles, just why? It'd take you way longer to fix than actually hold since the vehicle stays on server while you're offline and even if it remains magically unstolen server might eat it anyway. AND even if you manage to keep it there's seriously little you can actually do with it. Driving around in arma engine is everything but fun, especially when your average car burns through gas at obscure speed. Now if you don't care about how long your specific life in dayz lasts (I honestly dont, it's a nice detail but I've no real interest to survive for eternity, especially as it'd be a no-brainer with bunch of basic tools and water bottle) there's really quite little incentive to group up and there's awfully little that can be done about it. Anyway, I know why many often say that there is huge benefit in grouping, it's true in part but only applies to players with certain attitude and some caring for that number stating how many dayz they've survived. For the rest, the incentives are quite non-existent and interacting with other players is only an unneeded risk. -
I'm not raging. I never raged. It's a really weak ad hominem (as per the stupidity of my adversaries). I'm having fun and getting revenge because you guys invite people to join your group, so that you can kill them and take their stuff when they get there. You can't betray someone and then expect them not to retaliate. I've even gone around to inform people in Teamspeak servers and various anti-bandit groups of your operation. (Hence the increase in people on your server). That's why government do cover-ups and don't throw people under the bus. Now everyone knows Atlanta 31 is a bandit clan server. That you guys have four vehicles. Look for them around the NW airfield! They have a Jeep, a bus, and a few other vehicles chock full of weapons and equipment and are most active when it gets dark out. I'm looking for their base right now. Add me on Steam "coverfirehero" if you want to help hunt griefer bandits who try to appear as normal human beings on internet forums, but are a figurative facsimile of the cannibals in "The Road." Oh, and if you haven't noticed I'm already attacking you in the game under various pseudonyms. I would've had you all last night but then it got dark out and I lost track and got killed by a glitch a shortwhile after. Nice try with the decoy flare though. As soon as my friend Nick gets the game, you guys are toast. He's a sgt. with two tours of Iraq and Afghanistan and mad fps skills.

Seattle 24 LEGION OF SPARTA SERVER(NOW WITH EVIDENCE)
Zudren (DayZ) posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Heres what happened. Join the server after intel from my friend says that he found their camp. We jump in there and stole all their shit. We got all their stuff out and decided we were going to blow up the vehicles. I didnt go back on this mission because it was too risky for two guys. So I dcd outside of the camp and watched his screen (were in the same room). He loaded back in with like 6 grenades and started blowing their cars up. He was killed almost immediately but we still had their stuff so they banned us for "combat dodging" but it cant be a combat dodge if he got killed. They also mention on their forums about using the logs to figure out who was there. They think there was one of us on multiple names but they have banned us from ts and server. ADMIN ABUSE Video of him attempting to blow up the cars and getting shot. THEIR FORUMS http://www.legionofspartans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10009&pid=86145&st=40entry86145 no one was dodging. we just had several people running around the camp to get all their gear before they got back. -
Map marks - DEV TEAM CHECK THIS PLEASE
Sinaz20 replied to TheSexyGoat's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is neat... probably only to me... because I looooove the idea of maritime rutters. See, a rutter was a special map and/or log that a sailing captain kept. It had all his personal shortcuts, observations, finds-- it was essentially his own personal cheat sheet to smooth, efficient, safe, and rich sailing-- often, during the age of exploration, it guarded state secrets in terms of navigational routes to colonies and trading ports. It was protected as a priceless treasure. When a ship was sacked, one of the first things sought was the captain's rutter so that new trade routes or intel could be gathered. Imagine if the map auto-logged all the major things you discovered or placed-- tents, helicopters, vehicles. Then it became your own personal rutter. If you got shot, it would be a cool bit of loot to discover for the next guy. -
Some guy came up and started looting it. He was killed. Another dude logged right into our camp but quickly disconnected afterwards. So I'm like "Okay we have to move camp." We move out and set up camp in an area with nothing of interest, in a spot that you could only see if you were going to end up running straight through the camp in the first place. It's night time, the server almost always has 0~4 people on at night and we're tired. Wake up in the morning, everything in the tents, and all but one of our vehicles are gone. I don't even know what to say.

For the record, i just started playing 4 days ago. This is by far one of the best games i have ever played, and cant wait to see the final product =D. OK now for questions, i tried to look for answers but no luck. Hopefully you guys can help me. 1.Tents -I found a tent, but for the life of me could not place it. I tried object free flat areas. Is their a trick to this? -From my understanding if you save your tent, the tent only shows up on that particular server? Does the tent also get deleted after a server restart? 2.Vehicles -I have yet to have any in this game, but if i were to find one, how would i secure it after i log out? -Ive yet to see a vehicle, are they super rare? 3.My Corpse -How long does it take for your corpse to decay? Recently i died so my buddy guarded the house my corpse was in. It was a LONG way out so by the time i got there, i went in the house and i saw no body. I heard flies buzzing around, was my body just bugged out, or did it decay? 4.Loot -I heard different things on this. Does the loot change once per hour? Does it stay the same until a server restart? If it does change once an hour do i have to loot whats their already for it to change? 5.Maps -Can never seem to find one, is there a particular place to find them? Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer these questions :)

So I had this idea a while back and I'm not sure what the limitations of the engine are regarding map size, but if it's possible it'd be great to see the chernarus map expanded north, northwest and west. From what I can see, each of those three sectors have an area the size of chernarus in open space (on the player map if you fly way out there). The map would have more dense wilderness, less settlements, and overall become more remote the further you travel away from the cities. Not only would this solve the off-map hoarder problem, it would make for a much bigger game world for players to explore, and solve the problem of nowhere being truly remote enough to really set up a settlement. This brings me to my next point: End the off map hoarding. The only reason those camps are safe is because the off map is too barren and devoid of supplies for anyone except people with offroad vehicles and aircraft to reach. So I propose this solution: Tents cannot be placed off map. Vehicles parked off map will be moved to the nearest border at server restart (regardless of recent use or save status). With the above said, the off map solution should happen regardless of any expanding of the size of the playable map area. There is no reason for people to be able to have hoards of great weapons, NVGs, vehicles, ammo, etc etc, and be able to leave them undefended. If you want to have a hoard, you had better make sure you're organized enough to have people pulling round the clock guard duty. The way the system is set up now, it's game breaking, because I think I can safely say that rocket never intended for people to have invulnerable unreachable camps.

Admins from server DE #46 abusing admin privilages.
Dont Shoot Me posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
My group and I have been using DE #46 as our home server, and had found and repaired a few vehicles. Right as we were about to go set up a base the server either crashed or was shut down by the admins. Every time anyone tried to join they just got stuck at an infinite loading screen (I have a video of this I can upload if necessary.). The good news was no one was able to connect, as you can see from this link: http://arma2.swec.se/game/data/5124017 However, when I start my game up today I of course try to join the server, but instead I am kicked instantly. I go to the same website again, and I see that the only people that have been able to connect to the game are members of the AMG clan: http://arma2.swec.se/game/data/5129204 The have been apparently kicking everyone that joins the server, including me every time I have tried to join. Here is a link to a screenshot of the admin I that I believe is abusing his powers. http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n594/Brett_Pfeiffer/dayz.jpg I have video of me being kicked from the server multiple times as well, but this website is not letting me attach anything. I can upload the video to youtube if necessary, but there is more than enough proof already to show they are abusing their admin status by running a private server. -
we went 1/2 way across the map then a 1/4 way to a diff spot after they magically marked our new camp right after we dropped off our vehicles.
-
There is people using hacks map hacks its on youtube and today we just proved it. We had a camp get raided luckily we logged in right as they were there and killed them all. They only ever raid when we offline so its kinda... Anyways today we were watching the map after having been raided and noticed a marker on our old camp... We hopped in our convoy and took off across the map. We made just to keep an eye behind us and make sure we were not followed. Anyways we finally pick a new camp seconds after we arrive we look on the map and they had marked our new location on the map after getting there... So we figure maybe one of us did it on accident and we move camp again just to be safe. Lo and behold no problems BUT as soon as we all log off tho I wait around for about 20 minutes offline not logged in. I log back into the game at our camp and supply truck and jeep is gone along with all our loot and tents were run over. Is no way they coulda followed us without vehicles and we left sentries to make sure nobody did.

1- Tents placement are indeed buggy, if you really wanna place a tent somewhere just run around with your gear open spamming the 'place tent' button (right click and keep spamming it). And no, they don't disappear after server restarts and they stay only on the server you place them. 2- Well, stash them somewhere safe, in the woods, preferably in a place where you know how to get to. They're not really rare, you just need to go to their spawns, and depends on the servers, some old servers people already took and the vehicles for themselves, which means they're hidden somewhere. Use this map for vehicle spawns. 3- This system is kinda buggy, I think they're supposed to stay there for 15 minutes, but sometimes someone found it first and hid it or they just sank after a while. In case you have a friend guarding your body, tell him to get your stuff and drop on the ground, it's a lot safer. 4- They change after server restarts I think. Well, not sure how long does it take for them to respawn, but if your remove the loot of it's spawn and put them far away from it (I.E.: there's a bunch of tin cans on the ground, you take them and drop them somewhere else, like 10m away from it's original spawn) it's gonna respawn faster I think, that's what I usually do. 5- You can use the DayZ loot sheet to see where they usually spawn, to be honest I always find them all over the map, in Grocery stores, Houses (mainly houses), etc.. I'd recommend using the loot sheet. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask them, I'll gladly help you out buddy! :D

A more satisfying way to kill
TheSexyGoat replied to bobdole20's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
vehicles are really buggy for now, i dont even like to drive over objects, trash on the ground, not even bridges (they are buggy as hell). -
Yes, per server, same as vehicles. Loot spawns could remain or not. Nothing to stop server admins taking best buildings, or anyone else... all clearing would do is to remove zeds from spawning in or near that structure. And the deployable item that creates the claim & clears the spawn would need to be maintained & protected from others or wandering zeds from other structures. You could take back a town, & stem the spawning zeds but only as long as the claim item/deployable remains in place with hitpoints. Just an idea, seeing I read somewhere much earlier about an end game idea about reclaiming & protecting towns as a survivor.
