Source or definitive evidence of this? I have heard that devs must manually "roll out" another round of vehicles to cause them to respawn. Also' date=' the pick-up truck I blew up on my server hasn't reappeared in like 5 days. [/quote'] I guess it's hearsay, but from someone I trusted. So, no confirmation, but I'm willing to bet that's how it works.

The perfect game I never made, and how dayz is already half way there.
thoxon posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I've had this idea for a couple years, but never had the coding knowledge to attempt it. I think it would fit perfectly into dayz. During the day time, you and your clan would run around collecting food, ammo, and supplies, pretty much how dayz is right now. But, with the addition of collecting building supplies like razor wire, generators, petro cans, flood lights, fences, sandbags, claymores and parts to build fortifications. I imagined the center piece of your base being a huge tower (like the ones in the marsh area from stalker clear sky/ fast foward to 4:59). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0uIY-LNX-w The reason you’re collecting all these supplies is setting up a base for the night time to defend yourself from wave after wave of zeds. Not being in a base at night would be suicidal. I imagined having only certain areas for setting up the base like in an open field. (I think it would be cool to see another group in the distance going through the same horror as you and knowing there's nothing you can do to help them.) Vehicles would be used to ferry supplies back and for to your base before the night comes. Mind you, while you’re collecting all these supplies you still have the pvp element to deal with. You’re going to be fighting over the same resources as everyone else. Or you could be more diplomatic and barter with other factions (Up to your play style). One major sticking point, another group can’t raid your base and steal supplies. Once the material has built into your base, it can’t be taken apart by another group only zeds can cause damage to your structure. I mean, a guess if you wanted to you could make it that other groups can steal supplies from your base. But, then you would have to leave people behind to defend it, and that would get kind of boring after a while if no one was attacking you. I see the night time as being strictly pve. This is when you spend all your time working with your group, defending yourself from the wave of zeds. After the night’s over and you managed to survive, you repeat the process over of re-arming yourself, replacing damaged building materials, and preparing for the next nightfall. What do you guys think? -
I think the answer at that point is to get a boat and start living on an island, or stockpiling vehicles. If I were at this "end game", I would try to coordinate with others who were bored and start a trading post or medical center.

Keep in mind that vehicles get destroyed all the time by stupidity or ambushes. They DO respawn if they get destroyed. They're supposed to be rare. Have patience!

Do you have a "home" server? or do you roam?

I used to roam, until I started using vehicles. -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
rips (DayZ) replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Possible fix. Easy solution, disallow any saving out-of-bounds. Allow travel, flying, driving, & the ridiculous suggestion in this thread of "clan wars" in out of bounds. Just disable saving; so tent & vehicle storage remains in play area. Then add random server resets so the vehicles get teleported back into play at random intervals. -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
Steve McAwesome replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lol guys........going miles out of the map bounds to store tents and vehicles is the most cowardly thing you can do. you may not consider yourself a cheater or exploiter. You can make arguments that rocket wants it this way and it wont be patched, or whatever other justifications that you want. But you are still among the most cowardly players this game has seen. Right up there with the disconnectors. This you cannot argue. -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
logan23 replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hmmm. I think that maybe there should be something added to those edges of the map to limit players from going way off what we know as the DayZ map. I have no problem with players making small settlements in the more barren places that are on the upper North and Western edges of the map but setting up something 30 minutes off what is the official Arma2 map needs to resolved. These issues are best resolve with in game moments , not an invisible wall. Ideas: High level of Zombies on the edges Debris that block it off. Armed NPC NATO/Miltary guards will travel in vehicles and spawn if you go out to far in a way like a cowboy directs a herd. (Would need to heavy armor transport so players can't destroy them. I do like someone mentioned the hearing of Zombie breathing as you hear or get message to turn back,..if not then you will Aggro Zombies out of no where. If there is a limit on how far you can go off the map then there needs a way for the player to warned since there is chance they might be wondering in the dark with no map. -
Find one, or steal one. Mostly vehicles are taken so you need to be pretty lucky to find unoccupied one.

1.70 + beta 93701 love: -environment -good mass of items (for a alpha) -fear hate: -tents placing / tent robbery (only desperating to get good stuff that is ever stolen.... and really ... no one would hide his stuff in a tent if your mod would be real... anyone would dig good stuff into earth or keep it elswere not to be found.......). So this is totally nonsense and gives the player nothing to progress.... -all the zombie bugs that hopefully better with the next patch... -player hunters everywhere.... well its ok that some players may be the bad guys.... but again ... if it would be real just a few guys would just shot ppl wich may be more help than just (loot)........... also just a few may be give up on mankind.... so this is totally bullshit too. Its just another sniper camper feature for all the nerds knowing they dont have any disatvantage since its a game..... -first shot and not even robbery.............. yeah for sure anyone would just shot ppl for fun in a zombie world.................. -.- -there are too less vehicles in your world. totally nonsense that just few should be rdy to ride. -not enough houses are passable... yeah really realistic..... -zombies much too fast.... did you ever see a good zombie movie in wich zobies running like burning turkeys ? -.- -Nighttimes in wich you can see any shit ? just spawning and cant do any shit or loot because i dont see anything ? ......................... yeah really good .................. And now all the fat snipers, kiddo mankind hater pretenders (wich are aksing their moms for dinner after reading this) and clanmembers wich cant understand single playing guys can start flaming as ever.......... i only hope that some devs care for ppl like me and my opinion.

Hello, So several people and myself have been trying this game. We came from Eve-Online. We set up camp, have vehicles, established ourselves, and so on. From what I have seen this game is all about survival of the fittest and does not promote cooperation if you are a lone-wolf. However, if you play with a group of people then it does... Last night we were doing a raid and all of a sudden see head lights and 3 cars come down the road. Was a very intense moment but they just missed seeing us. We take the shoot first ask questions later approach. It is mainly due to not wanting to be gunned down first and lose my hard earned gear. Especially the NV with the way the new patch is.. Everyone takes that approach aside from the noobs. Have you guys experienced players help one another or is it that once you and them get established and geared up it really is survival of the fittest. Maybe we are biased. We come from Eve-Online which is a brutal PvP game. So we excel in these kind of games because we're used to it from a PvP/survivability point of view. What about you? What's your approach to this game once you get established? This is a truly incredible game.

Question: are vehicles now available on all the servers or only on a few ones (the old ones?) I don't know if it was fixed by any recent patch. -
Does this game really promote cooperation?
Rogo Ignoscant replied to Torothin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I beg to differ. This game FORCES you to be cooperative. A solo gunner on a mission is going to have a much harder time carrying the items he needs to survive. A 'lone wolf' type has to make the decision usually between a long ranged sniper rifle, a medium ranged assault rifle and a short ranged quick to act weapon. Lone Wolf has a much greater chance of loosing everything. Repairing vehicles is a great example of this, as a tire takes up 5 slots even putting together something like an ATV can be an incredible mission. Food, water and supplies force everyone to move constantly. Even if you stockpile your tents there are going to be people raiding them and you never know who's watching you. A lone wolf does not share this luxury. With the inability to have people at camp at any given time traveling across the map forces them to move into larger cities. More so with inadequate weaponry, and a lot more to loose. The 'use it loose it' mentality is what most 'noobs' have. Until it hits day 12 and you're carrying a silenced M4 with enough ammo to take out a small town; your living off the land and you've got yourself a nice vehicle. Water isn't a problem and you've got a camp set up for gear. Now that you've got everything you need what do you do? The answer is simple .. you go out on raids or murder sprees even ganking. Again all things you can do by yourself no doubt effectively. But with a much larger cooperative group your efficiency becomes drastically better. I can't think of ANY POINT in DayZ where not having a cooperative group is an advantage. .. and if you're like me, when things get really bad you can always shoot your friend. -
When are helicopters coming back?
replied to albinl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The initial plan to fully release the vehicles caused major sync issues. When a vehicle takes damage it has to register with the main server, which wasn't accustomed to the delay that we have on DayZ servers. I guess they're slowly leaking them back out on the 50 servers like Dean mentioned at E3 so they can adjust it as needed and hopefully nail it in the next patch so all servers can have vehicles without causing the main server to freak out. That's what I got out of it anyway. -
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU! I hope the Ural will be back, as well as the Offroad, those were our vehicles, and they were added in the last vehicle update right? They were loaded with stuff, literally.

Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Someone's getting mad because he's to lazy to read the thread? Quite entertaining. I have just prooven that you don't know either what rocket's plan is. If you play an argument like that, you got to be prepared for the counter. Nothing abusive in that, if you take that as an offense you may as well just leave. It's called discussing. Point is that as long vehicles are stored - most of the times not even being used - they don't get destroyed, they don't get damaged, they don't respawn. With the spawns/saving still buggy and glitchy as it is, a selected, small group of players compared to the overall number screw the testing over that way. Is it really that hard to understand? I will have fun watching the first threads go up once this is closed down. OMFG ROCKET I JUST DIED OUTSIDE THE MAP, CANT ACCESS MY STUFF NOW PLZ FIX! -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
enaver replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So yes, you were pulling facts out your arse. Again, making stuff up. Never have I said I know what rocket wants. Seems you have lowered your level to being abusive, quite pathetic really. Point is? Vehicles not working properly does not directly affect the wilderness. Have fun with that. As I have stated before my base is within the map. -

No we are comparing it to parking vehicles and tents 1h's drive of map. i have no issue with beeing able to go of map while your online' date=' but you better reset back to the mapedge if you log out or place something out there. the map areas are that large outside to support decent Airplane combat. A 225km worrld is to small for modern jetfighter speeds. [/quote'] I would also like to note that my base is within the maps bounds, but i still see nothing wrong with people making bases to the far North>North-West. The only issue i see is the limited vehicles, but apart from that i see no reason why people can't put in the effort and place a tent out there. -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
BL1P replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes' date=' they have. You can probably find it via 'search.' There is an open issue in the dev queue with an official response. The wilderness will cease saving vehicles and tents in a future patch so if you're using it as a base now, you best find a new one. [/quote'] Good to know. Sucks to be an exploiter now doesn't it :) -
Rocket I love you: Going out of bounds - exploit or acceptable?
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not sure why this thread is on 4 pages. It's a really simple discussion. The team has already stated out of bounds will be out of bounds. No vehicles or storage will save there. This makes sense. It's obviously not designed to be part of the map. It's existence is an anomaly of design, not an intended part of the strategic map. rocket has already said there will be other options for hiding gear such as digging caches in the ground that will be more easily hidden. However, existing options are not as bad as people suggest. I owned a truck myself for 12+ days by hiding it wisely, and this was on a server with name tags where vehicles can be spotted from 1000m out. Just think about where players go and what routes they take to get there and don't put your vehicle there. Also "up north" is what everyone thinks, so... don't do that. What's left to discuss? I don't know... Yes, they have. You can probably find it via 'search.' There is an open issue in the dev queue with an official response. The wilderness will cease saving vehicles and tents in a future patch so if you're using it as a base now, you best find a new one. Except it's Alpha so we don't have all intended mechanics. This is obviously a hold-over from ARMA which limits your movement in other ways. It's very clearly not meant to be a part of the game. It's leftover texture/buffer zone to make room for jet dogfights and shit, not meant for ground based combat missions and certainly not appropriat efor DayZ, and it will be patched out soon as it should be. -

Blay Wayne replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
my point is more that you can remove the border region, but you'd also have to do something about storing loot and vehicles inland. I think that right now it's not unreasonable to leave the map to hide stuff, but it would be better for everyone if a different solution was found. Obviously just making tents better wouldn't stop people leaving the map, but if you do want to put an end to 'void camps', give players an alternative -
Just a few thoughts of mine, first off fixing vehicles resetting after being saved. 2nd maybe adding alcohol which would give you added benefits aswell as sideeffects like maybe addiction which would make you need pain killers. 3rd crossbow / arrow has been used by the most simplest of tribes since the beginning of time, they invented this thing called a quiver, yea.
