So, after the 1.7.1 patch (with all the vehicles being reset after the clans hoarded them) I took it upon myself to gather some car parts and find a vehicle. I gathered 3 wheels, and a fuel tank. Luckily, that's just what I needed to repair Dawg Mk. II (Dawg Mk. I was a bus). The problem is that because I really only trust one other person in-game, I'm too paranoid to go anywhere with it. Spaghetti was falling out of my pockets left and right in Zeleno for a refuel. I almost never go anywhere with my car either. When I'm on, I just drive through the woods. And when I'm waiting for my friend to get geared before I pick him up this is what I'm doing. Edit: Btw, I know people accuse you of hacking like crazy if you have a good gun and low zombie/player kills. If I'm requested by an authority figure, I was recording when I picked up that gun off somebodies dead body near a tent as I was driving along the map. (Hope Image Code Works XD) Obviously this is not a problem with the game. I'm just curious, does anyone else feel this way? After three weeks of playing in-game this has been my first and only good vehicle. I'm just too paranoid to do anything with it. Anyone else feel this way? Why or why not I suppose. BTW, here's a vid of me and a friend repairing the bus/me repairing my offroad.

Has to do with the server you're on that shows players on the map... It'll show zombies and vehicles too.

Random vehicle spawn locations (and other related vehicle suggestions)
chickenbandit posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This got deleted in the forum rollback today, but fortunately it was the last thing I had ctrl+c'ed. For starters, I'd like to give a big thank you to the dev team for finally implementing land vehicles on all the servers. The game is even more fun than it already was, and having a goal like vehicles has really helpedpeople form groups and to stop deathmatching quite so much (and it has worked much more so than any of the damn carebears' heretofore suggestions). Anyways, I have a lot of mostly related ideas regarding vehicle spawns, along with my rationale behind them: 1) Make vehicle spawn locations much more random. This would incentivize people to form groups to search diligently for the vehicles of their choice, rather that simply running to Rog castle/NWAF/wherever for a chopper the moment the server gets set up. It would also remove an unfair advantage that it seems (though I cannot personally confirm) many server admins and their buddies have been exploiting by getting the jump on these vehicle spawns. 2) On vehicle destruction, have vehicles respawn in a completely random place, as above. At least the way things seem now, vehicles go back to whatever location they were last saved at after destruction. 3) Have all vehicles despawn after X number of days without being used/actively saved. Note that I am not against the hoarding of vehicles by any means. The reason for this, rather, is for a situation such as where some random person/group goes on a server, finds a car, takes it out beyond the edge of the map after they've had their fun, and end up never coming back to that server again. This would essentially make the vehicle unavailable to anyone and everyone on the map, and that's just lame. Make it plenty long to not harm the hoarders (somewhere between 4 and 7 days seems long enough). 4) Remove the ability for helicopter radar to see vehicles that are broken, not running, or inside a building. It doesn't really make sense from a realism perspective, and I think it frankly gives people with helicopters too much power. They already have the best mobility, the best vision, etc., they don't need the added bonus of radar. 5) Fix the vehicle saving system so that it doesn't get eaten by server resets (not sure how much of this is hive side and how much is serverside). That is all. -
Guys raided my camp in vehicles and stole a considerable amount of goods. I'm feeling a whole lot better about the whole thing.

Going at it alone for about two weeks now, decided it's now time to find a partner. I'm looking for someone who at least knows the basics to surviving(how to bandage, what to do if lost, the difference between morphine and pain killers, etc) A mic to chat on ventrilo. (skype is okay too but I prefer ventrilo) Eastern time zone would be ideal but central works too. The way I play is everyone is an enemy, so we won't be hunting players exactly but if we come across anyone we will kill them if the moment is on our side, none of that "friendly in cherno?" crap. Age doesn't matter as long as you can work well with a partner. My goal for this game with my future partner is to establish a camp with vehicles and supplies and surviving as long as possible. Shoot me a pm or post here.

The definitive VEHICLE SPAWNS thread
sarlac replied to MR DELICIOUS's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hoarder yes, not the admin of a server. By "my server" I mean the one me and my crew frequent. We keep a collection of vehicles on hand. Currently the count is 6. -
Why don't we just spawn player's randomly throughout all towns/cities? This way the coast isn't over popped, people stop QQing about the dangers of the beach, player's in the north have to be more leary (more player's further inland)..... the whole game will take on a new spin (Of course you could make the coast a more common spawn, inland a rarer spawn). Just a suggestion. Love the New Z's. Seems like Loot drops have been reduced (If so, love that as well), I see more vehicles (A boat a bike and a chopper all in one run) Like that. Z's are DEF Scarier.... like it. Survivor's have to actually survive to start a character (Making dying..... a lot shittier, I like it). I just don't want to see anything made easier. I already teamed with a few kid-o's to try and increase our survival rate (Or get backstabbed) Oh Day 5, Played all day. Zombies aren't shit so stop bitchin Kids. (they are kinda scurry)

No loot anywhere (1.7.1.1)
livilaNic replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't know how this shit works EXACTLY, but people can get different results 'cause servers don't have everything updated correctly or at all. Like when backpacks (even vehicles at one point) weren't spawning at all. Some servers actually got a server side update for it, but others didn't. People were coming on here and saying we can find backpacks just fine. Then of course others would say they couldn't find any for days...someday I hope some way it can be the same for all. So that if you don't have the most recent updates then you just can't host the server or some shit. I don't know. Just sucks to have all this conflicting information around. I'd assume though that rocket and his team have a way of sifting through the shit and will get it worked out at some point. -
The Problem With Having A Car In DayZ
Chainedlord replied to Nickprovs's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Currently have about 14 land vehicles and 1 water vehicle piled up in a camp made up of about 8 active people. 7 ATVS, 1 UAZ, 1 Offroad, 1 Hippy Van, 1 Truck, 2 Tractors, 1 Motorcycle, and 1 Speed boat. We get around a lot. -
The Problem With Having A Car In DayZ
bad_mojo (DayZ) replied to Nickprovs's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've found lots of vehicles in DayZ, my opinion, don't get too attached. Once I found a freshly spawned tractor that needed repair but was still functional, I drove it until it ran out of gas and parked it in the trees beside a road and left for a couple hours to get parts and more gas. I returned a few times with tires and crap to fix it up, but had a hard time finding a jerry can, so finally I did and came back(had only been about 2hrs since I first parked it) and it was gone. No biggy, but damn it was taken in under 2hrs in the middle of the night. Another time I found someones Military Off-road truck in the woods, so I drove it up and down the coast line until I slammed it into a trash pile and popped a tire. It was a spectacular failure. It was literally just 200m outside of Cherno on the main highway so I ran down the road and spotted a survivor, tailed him and eventually made contact, no text or voice chat but he didn't kill me, so I lured him back to the truck and then logged off and went to bed, it was gone the next day. I wish (and suggested it) that there were way more vehicles, but far less parts. I don't even bother trying to fix them anymore, it too much effort just to leave it for someone else to steal. PS> Do you not have the beta installed? I see side chat in your screen shot. -

VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16
Spider0804 replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
My new purpose in life instead of racking up kills and staying alive for 10+ days is not collecting vehicles, but discovering parking lots and having fun with frags. I am not a friendly flute, I just realize that every player is a human who plays the game to have fun...and vehicles are fun...damn fun. I will not deny others that fun simply because I like to log into a collection. -
Starting with no weapon... and zombie sight range/speed
djkling replied to djkling's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, i'll disagree a little. First off, slower zombies would make the game more interesting and less twitch. Right now, you spawn a zed and you CAN NOT outrun it. Thats a problem. I do like the 28 days reference and all, but I think that having zombies be generaly sense deprived along the lines of senses (more along the lines of The Walking Dead style). In addition, the Arma2 engine is not designed for Melee, in that case people should have access to weapons, especially at the start Finally, if there was an apocalypse, the only people who would probably still be alive are those with guns and/or vehicles. In a war torn country like Cherno you'd see a LOT of people with firearms, even farmers and hunters. You'd also probably be prone to a military presence in cities, many of whom would have battle rifles and armoured vehicles strewn all over the place. -
Carbearing sounds painful, but it's good to have a way for female survivors to provide vehicles :) But on a serious note, players will always kill other players for fun. This is lessened when they are in danger themselves, or they have some advantage to not killing you, but still there. You will never eliminate this. Learn to fear survivors. When you have played this game for a while, you get a bit of adrenaline when you even see another player, nevermind hunting them :D

Story time. A couple stories actually. So yesterday I was sitting at my base near the shipwreck at the NE corner of the map. All of my other friends were out on missions gathering food, vehicle supplies, etc, except one other friend. The loot we had managed to get was: Some kind of Zodiac speed boat Two leisure boats Two ATVs A Jeep that seats 5 (whos name I cannot recall) At least 3 tents full of food, guns&ammo, Medical supplies, etc) So I'm semi-AFKing in a tree checking the map on my steam overlay, when I see someone run across the base. I assume it's my other friend. The person gets into one of the Leisure boats. I mouse over the person; It is not one of us. She starts the boat up, and begins to (slowly) sail away. I put a few rounds into her with my M14; she's dead, but the boat is still moving. It slowly sails away, the corpse still slumped over to the side. I tell my friend what happened, and we check the base. This girl had ran past the Jeep, the two ATVs, the tents, and chose to steal the slow-ass leisure boat instead of the fast Zodiac boat. ...Dafuq? Later that day, during the evening, one of my friends on teamspeak brings his friend over to our new base (we changed locations after someone else found it) this friend rides over on an ATV. He says we can keep it. Later he goes out and rides a motorcycle into camp. Then two cars I dont think are even in the game. All have full health, and this is in the span of thirty minutes. The next day, a Fully-operational helicopter spawns in the middle of our camp, while this guy is on. (obvious hacks is obvious) However, as the server admin was also in our group, he reset the server, which despawned all the hacked in vehicles. ....Dafuq?

Wife is gonna be so pissed, lol!
JohnSmith (DayZ) replied to Boonshniggle's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
At least that one is not entirely Rocket's fault. While there are various female models available in Arma all of those are severely limited in functionality. E.g. they can not wield weapons of any kind. Or even drive all vehicles because at the time Arma was created BE deemed it unnecessary and was lazy and didnt include animations for that. This means Rocket cant just simply reuse some stock Arma female soldier models (or in this case PMC models) but has to create the whole model from scratch first - which is a shit load of extra work actually. Be glad that he at least made one female model for dayz - and some day switching to it will hopefully work... ;) -
Oh, a mechanical issue that's probably inherent to how things work: Bikes (and probably other vehicles) are too fast to let zombies spawn in time when you zip by a town. So bikes = No zombies unless a player's been nearby recently. Edit: Possible fix: Detach spawn circle from player location. Offset spawn circle: Spawn circle = Player_loc + (normalized_movement_vector * speed * magic_value).

Yeah, his server is still down as of 30 minutes later. I'm wondering if maybe he's trying to find some way to rollback the server to before he died if that's possible. (I have no idea if it is). That or maybe he just closed it to the public so that he could get all his stuff back and horde the vehicles away somewhere. Whatever other greasy little bitch things he can think of.

(Another) Trading Post that might actually succeed?
TheZombieGuy replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I like where this is going, seems to be getting a lot of positive feedback and suggestions, although I haven't yet seen anyone in the steam chat or ts3. Sure would like to actually have a conversation with some of the officers/supporters to really figure some stuff out. It's all speculation right now and I think that we need to actually put some of it into action, starting with gathering weapons, resources, and vehicle parts/vehicles. -
Beware Zombies. (Pics and Vid tour)

looks boring :P. Id prefer go look for vehicles and fix them. And then get some better gear at the better spots. -
20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
TractorFiend replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
NO It's annoying as hell, forces you into cherno/elektro to be ganked. As for the whole thing about "you don't have a pistol at home" thing, you're forgetting that not everybody is a master of all types of weapons and vehicles. The 'realism' logic is utterly flawed. -
So Imagine what would happen during a zombie apocalypse. The military would come in and attempt to create a safe zone some where on the map. Possibly to evacuate all non-infected. This would be somewhere up north. Some where easily defended. But of course the camp gets over run in a giant cluster fuck of blood and bullets. Now since this is where most of the population was this is where the zombies in the game come from. How? Zombies trickle out in random groups (roaming zombie hoards of up to 50 zeds?)... usually less than a dozen. These zombies follow roads to a few key buffer cities located around the map. Elekctro, cherno, stary, berezino, the air field. When a zombie dies in non buffer town, a zombie leaves from the buffer town to replace it. Ideally, the buffer towns should be placed so at most it takes 20 minutes for new zombies to get there. Now we all know that zombies have some sort of memory of their past life. That's why they hang around in the fields around their homes and the streets of their cities. This would mean that they'd take the route they were familiar with. They wouldn't walk in a straight line. They'd follow the road. So no zombies roaming the woods. Just on the roads. Avoid the roads. The refugee camp itself would be like the air field times 10x. Firing a shot off inside it would mean certain death as it would be holding hundreds of zombies at a time. Unlike the air field where players pose the biggest risk the camp would be the biggest environmental challenge a group of players could tackle. But the loot in a camp would be in tents. Sorry, intense ;) Vehicles, military loot, medical supplies. Everything. Anyways, I've been playing with this idea for a few weeks. I don't think it's something easily done, but I think it would be an amazing feature to an already kick ass game.
