Vehicles more common or just luck?
revenoff replied to Markedgun's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
all servers recently respawned all vehicles and additionally put in a respawn function for if they die or are left alone for 7 days so now is a good time to find them -
Hello fellow survivors, bandits, and forum wanderers, I am just curious as to why me and my friends have found around 4 vehicles in the last day. First off this morning I found myself a bus in Cherno, then my friend found a ATV in Elecktro, then we found a van like car somewhere east of Elecktro, and then we found a car somewhere on the east coast. The only vehicle we were actually able to take was the bus, which I drove up north (But I died due to hunger and had broken legs so I just saved it up there and left it). So are we very lucky or just something I didn't notice?

Make vehicles less prone to exploding from collision
Pomegranate posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Difficulty =/= Realism I just found a tractor in the middle of a road in some small town, and it was fully working. I had scrap metal in my backpack, so I repaired the hull. The hull was 100% repaired. I was driving down some road at 20 kph. I accidentally bump into a street light, and the entire tractor explodes. How is that realistic in any way? It's also ridiculous. I have found cars several times, and almost all of the time, I just end up dying because the car absolutely blows up when I hit a rock going at 10 kph. Reduce the damage that collision does to your car. It's ridiculous to hit a bump on the road and explode. -
Yeah it'd be fun if you could put GPS trackers on vehicles. Only usable if you have already looted a GPS sat nav. It would be useful for: - Being able to hunt down vehicle thieves. - Baiting somebody to steal a vehicle and lead you to their camp. - Keeping track of group members for swift emergency evacuation. It would probably require an engine hack though so I'm unsure just how feasible this would be.
-
I agree that it should remain an option, but something should be done to prevent seeing over walls / around corners. If third person has to be taken away, I hope we at least can keep third person in vehicles because certain vehicles in first person make me almost sick.
-
The real difference between DMR and AS50 is the DMR is NVG compatible, but the AS50 isn't. The AS50 however is Effective of up to 1800 range, it also able to one or two shot vehicles and shoot through most walls.

Possible make most people happy solution?
stardruid replied to Roalith's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yeah I was going to host as server but like you decide not to after reading the rules. While I don't mind host a server (already run a minecraft server for the guild), I won't till later when I'll have more control over it. Most of the guild I'm part of quit playing games like World of Tank and similar (Or not so similar in the case of SW:TOR) becasue there was no guarantee we could all actual play together. Support would die out quick if came to times where everyone couldn't get on a server we rented. Sadly since tent/vehicles etc are server based, and needed for real guild like operations you can't just go find "another" server. Best option is like some of us are doing, is to wait till server are allow with more control in the hands of those that pay for and maintain them. -
well im sure i git banned cause i dropped the n bomb once cause some kids raided our base and took everything and some white kid decided to screenshot it and get me banned when im black myself, and i didnt even say it to any person in perticular this kid just wants to get on everyones ass. but whatever ive been banned for absoulutely nothing on that server before anyway.... it sucks cause its our home server and we have 4 vehicles on it and i just rebuild our base for the 3rd time. so now theres 4 useless vehicles there and one is in the middle of the road fully repaired. im not expecting to get unbanned, its just bs tho.

How to you dispose of your old camp?
[email protected] replied to hunter2123's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Confirmed. I discovered the camp when I server hopped from our camp, which was in the same location, and they banned me for "hacking" after I killed 3 of there afks and stole one their vehicles. No hard feelings though, glad you guys moved it finally. Whenever I want to "dispose" of a camp, I just take everything out and save the tent. After that a server restart won't revert the items that were removed. Sometimes ill blow them up or run them over, but a server restart just restores them. -
. THIS TOPIC IS MEANT TO EXPLORE POSSIBILITIES FOR THE FUTURE. NOT FOR THE PRESENT 'MOD' VERSION OF DAYZ. . . What would I do in the case of a zombie appocalypse? I WOULD MAKE A SETTLEMENT, without a doubt! The idea that players would be given the ability to construct things once they've survived several weeks and collected enough supplies appears to be a very, very popular one with this community, so I thought I'd share some of my ideas. I like the idea of making the game a little more true to the 'survival' part, rather than just KILL KILL KILL. Player-buildings would, obviously, be fully destructible. In order to keep a small community going, for example, you'd need the support of many players! Players would be able to customize the location and orientation (rotation) of these objects, to construct shacks, houses, buildings, etc. or fix up an old building to make it their home. Anywho .. It isn't like there's a lack of space. Most of the game map is empty woodlands, as we all know : and there are all of those islands, which would be perfect for settlements! Fallout 3's most popular mod was the 'Real Time Settler' mod, in which a similar system was introduced. An image of a settlement constructed by players is below It would be equally cool fixing up a pre-existing structure, or cleaning up a pre-existing town though. . . Some things I think players should be able to construct in the future : (Feel free to criticize / suggest - I'm totally open) . . [ Workbench ] - Used to put together a lot of these objects, with scraps found in the world. [ Makeshift Wall ] - Made up of boards of wood and metal sheets. Very easily destroyed. [ Chain Fencing ] - Used to fence off bases constructed by players, unpassable. Can be cut open with wire/bolt cutters, and holes could be blown in it very easily with explosives. Vehicles could probably destroy these very easily if rammed. [ Plywood Wall / Drywall ] - A little harder to destroy, but still pretty flimsy. Opaque, so players cannot see through it like the Chain Fencing. Maybe it could be destroyed by the zombies, if bashed down? [ Cement Wall ] - Tough, but still breakable. And RPG or well-placed block of C4 (if added) could blow this open. [ Metal Wall ] - Thick metal, used to wall the toughest fortifications. Welding torches could break through this. [ Door / Gate] - Various types of doors. Wooden doors are obviously easy to break down (and bashed in by zombies perhaps?), whereas large, thick metal doors are very difficult to open. Keypads could be added to prevent players from entering ... easily [ Generator ] - Used to create 'power', to fuel the devices that will follow. Runs on gasoline. [ Chest/Locker/Safe ] - Something players could put in their fortifications/communities to store items. Could be locked. Openable, perhaps, with rare bolt cutters, depending on the quality of the lock used. [ Light Fixture / Floodlights ] - Provides light for you in your shack/fort, uses power [ Radio Tower ] - Uses power, adds your town name to the map (ie. "Manhattan" next to a dot on the map). I'm guessing that this object would take a LOT of resources, and run on immense amounts of power. (Available only to the largest of settlements) That way, if the town is raided and destroyed by bandits, it just becomes ruins, and the map marker is removed. [ Terminal/Computer ] - A variety of uses for simple computers in the game. You think about it. Maybe you could research things, if you find old website servers, harddrives, or military information servers? [ Ammo Press / Weapon Press ] - Used to press out very specific types of ammo. You must first find the specs/blueprints/cast (whichever) before you can produce a certain type of ammunition. Uses metal. Take a LOT of resources, and are only available to the largest of the largest of settlements. [ Forge? ] - Toss in ores to refine your metal, for guns etc. [ Farming ] - Grow a couple potatoes, raise some cows : good stuff to keep a settlement of players going. [ Chemistry Sets ] - Allows for players to create vaccines/cures/meds if they manage to scavenge the right chemicals from the world. It would also be nice to set up other medical objects, that players visiting the settlement could use. [ Powered Gates / Powered Blast doors ] - Very difficult to destroy, powered by a motor. Comes with a keypad to open/close. [ Wrench/Screwdriver/Drill/Sledgehammer ] - Cool engineering items that could have a variety of uses. [ Furniture ] - Allow players to place chairs, tables, beds, ovens, etc. that are crafted / dragged in from elsewhere for scenery (or perhaps they'd have a use) [ Water Pump / Water Well ] [ Lootable garbage piles ] - Those piles of trash / bits of metal / wood you find in every city should, if this system is introduced, become lootable. In these piles of junk, you'd find the scraps of stuff needed to build the objects mentioned above. . == Ideas that are probably not feasible == [ Flags ] - Allow players to customize flags (to a certain, manageable extent). They could place these flag around town, use it as a marker of a trading outpost, or use it as a banner for your group of raiders. [ Custom Signs ] - For example .. you'd have a sign that says "Rivet City" above the city's gateway entrance, or a sign off to the side saying "Do not raid! You are welcome in our settlement!" [ PA System ] - You can set these up around your city, to play some music for people who are in your city. They'd be songs added to the mod by the dev team, of course - ambient music like this ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I52SEq384Eo [ Area denial weapons ] - Bit of a silly idea ... You could set up this 'turret' to scan back and forth for players, and gun down anyone who comes near. This could be put inside of a house, as a form of security. This is for a settlement that spends a lot of time offline. . == Ideas from other users == [ Small Helipad ] Allow for some air support/transport from a single helicopter in the village/town/city/whatever it is. How to right a flipped vehicle?
wolfgang784 replied to everyone's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If it were a car, then using another vehicle to flip it would have a chance of working. With an ATV however, tapping it lightly with a car several times will cause it to violently explode like a nice big box of grenades. If you flip an ATV and it does not force you off of it, then you can possibly right it by turning the wheels and giving it gas the right way. Also fun fact: The more jerry cans in a vehicles inventory when it explodes, the more explosions! No jerry cans means it explodes once, one jerry can means it explodes twice, and so on. We have tested this repeatedly (we find a lot of vehicles =P) and it seems to be the case. -
Suggested solution to zombie Aggro and difficulty
messageboy replied to framesh1ft's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You also have to take into account that in real life, we have vehicles and other people and lots of other outside noises interfering with our senses. In dayz there wouldn't be far far less of this, I do think there should be a slight reduction through buildings but not by the large amount that you are saying. I reckon the aggro range is fine, since if you plan to get within 10m of a infected then you should get screwed unless you are shift crawling which then once you are within like 3-5m then you should be screwed. You shouldn't be getting so close to a infected unless you plan to crossbow shoot them. -
Hello all before I'm told things i already know: Yes I know Rocket and the DayZ team does not support Kronsky's SP mod, Yes I know I wasn't supposed to get it after the link was removed hence its removal, and no this isn't a flame on either party I don't care why it was removed or who was the victim and villain. Now on to my question/help request. What I want to do is edit Kronsky's SP map and spawn Arma 2 vehicles such as tanks, APCs, Helicopters, etc. I extracted the PBO but I'm not sure how to proceed from there, thank you for any help/or information you can bring to this.:D

(Another) Trading Post that might actually succeed?
Coolcat (DayZ) replied to Publik's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
These will most likely(as I said MOST LIKELY) be the topics that will be mentioned 1. Where will everything be set up, will we have a convoy or will we have a trading area different than the actually outpost 2. Vehicles - For us to get anything done efficiently, we need to have vehicles, whether it be boats to get around or helicopters for trading. We need some sort of vehicle. 3. server - What server will we be setting up at, will we host our own? Can we get people to actually join the server to trade with us. 4. Trading - What items will we be trading. We will actually probably be trading for weapons, supplies and vehicle parts 5. Also we will probably talk about what we will do when we get this up and running CoolCat -
I believe Vehicles/Tents have always been server specific. They've never been able to transfer between servers. Is this what you meant?
-
Wow lol. They didn't even announce that and care for the regular players that still had tents and vehicles.
-
So I read that tents are now going to be locked on that particular server. My main question is that will the same thing happen with vehicles when you hide them?
-
It is a good idea, it could be used in many situations other than hiding vehicles. Could be used to hide a group of ambushers that aren't in ghillie suits, also for possible temp camps or etc. The only issue would be placement glitch, since setting down a tent is near impossible and so with something that requires even larger area to be place down would be even harder to place.
-
Talking with a few of the boys, and we think that camouflage netting could be a good idea to add to the game as a loot item. Upside, good for hiding vehicles you find. Down side, the netting would take up most of your back pack space, and once deployed, it would need a large clear area. Thoughts? Cheers HULL

Character wipes with patch releases
-Cdn-Chard replied to Fiddlesticks's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
While I can see the point of character equipment resets (and I wince because I've been carefully surviving for three weeks and have most of the stuff I need to stay out of people's way but fight back effectively if I'm forced to (except the legendary NVG))... I thnk that the bigger problems are the hidden tents and vehicles loaded with gear that a newly wiped character can rearm at. Those should be periodically reset... But then that takes away from the other aspect of the game which is long term survival and the pursuit of the means to achieve it (ie. cars, a fortified camp, etc...) There'll always be tons of fresh spawners testing the game, but isn't there also value in seeing how the "high-end" players fare... The axe, for example, might interest newly spawned, but when face with chosing between an axe and a rifle as a primary weapon, most veteran players will likely opt for the rifle, especially if you have a small pack that can't hold a second primary weapon. Just my 2 cents... -
Places Were I Have Found Vehicles.
S1ippery Jim replied to Epidemic (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion

The new "Hotfix" just ruined my game.
Higgypig replied to Higgypig's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Increasing the stealth difficulty didnt help either, half the time when entering a building from a prone crawl my dumbass survivor stands up and sprints, alerting the entire horde. It also doesnt help that many of the servers are either not up to date, locked by admins to steal all the vehicles and hide them, or just plain buttfuckery like loosing military grade gear from a simple update. -
Bikes are the most common vehicle in the world. They should be everywhere!
auraslip posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Title says it all. The number of bikes in the world vastly out numbers motor vehicles. We don't realize it as much in 1rst world countries, but in other regions they are everywhere and are the standard mode of transport. They really should be everywhere. In almost every house. This would be realism! But, they need to be nerfed. The only bikes that go 40kmph are electric bikes! Electric bikes would be awesome in the zombie apocalypse if you had a generator, but I don't think that'd work in this mod. Also, I'd suggest adding a bicycle repair kit. Bikes are extremely reliable, and repair kits are pretty simple. Just patches to repair flat tires. Maybe a chain breaker to repair and replace a broken chain. This would make the game a whole lot less tedious. My hand gets sore holding down W. I end up just sticking a pen cap in my keyboard to cruise on autopilot. If you wanna say, "deal with running for 15 minutes straight - it's realistic," please re-read the part where I said bikes would be everywhere in a zombie apocalypse. -
US 1 US 2 TAW_Tonic Need Beta Patch
Mjolnir (DayZ) replied to ghzt's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I am getting this too; I have vehicles on US2 and I would appreciate being able to play there. -
I agree' date=' I wouldn't want to see the devs spend any significant amount of time on this, I just thought it would only require a few lines of code. Since the weapon is already in Arma2. I've driven around in many ground vehicles, why haven't I been popped by "every troll bandit and their mom's" AT4 rockets? ---------------------------- Believe me guys, I know this isn't BF3/PR, and I use the crap out of AA in those two games. And the last thing I want to do is turn DayZ into a PVP match, but we've already got so much military hardware in the game I doubt adding an AA missile will push it over the edge. Think about this for a second, if you have a working helicopter, it would be very easy to collect a bunch of spare parts for it. It's not like the people flying around in helicopters are struggling to survive, they've made it, they're thriving. So you leave your spare helicopter parts in the helicopter and when you get shot down, you secure the crash site and repair the bird. If it was just one lone guy hiding in a bush who shot you down, you just repair and fly away. But, if it was another clan/group who wanted your chopper they could advance and try to kill you before you can get it repaired.
