So I had this idea a while back and I'm not sure what the limitations of the engine are regarding map size, but if it's possible it'd be great to see the chernarus map expanded north, northwest and west. From what I can see, each of those three sectors have an area the size of chernarus in open space (on the player map if you fly way out there). The map would have more dense wilderness, less settlements, and overall become more remote the further you travel away from the cities. Not only would this solve the off-map hoarder problem, it would make for a much bigger game world for players to explore, and solve the problem of nowhere being truly remote enough to really set up a settlement. This brings me to my next point: End the off map hoarding. The only reason those camps are safe is because the off map is too barren and devoid of supplies for anyone except people with offroad vehicles and aircraft to reach. So I propose this solution: Tents cannot be placed off map. Vehicles parked off map will be moved to the nearest border at server restart (regardless of recent use or save status). With the above said, the off map solution should happen regardless of any expanding of the size of the playable map area. There is no reason for people to be able to have hoards of great weapons, NVGs, vehicles, ammo, etc etc, and be able to leave them undefended. If you want to have a hoard, you had better make sure you're organized enough to have people pulling round the clock guard duty. The way the system is set up now, it's game breaking, because I think I can safely say that rocket never intended for people to have invulnerable unreachable camps.
  2. My group and I have been using DE #46 as our home server, and had found and repaired a few vehicles. Right as we were about to go set up a base the server either crashed or was shut down by the admins. Every time anyone tried to join they just got stuck at an infinite loading screen (I have a video of this I can upload if necessary.). The good news was no one was able to connect, as you can see from this link: http://arma2.swec.se/game/data/5124017 However, when I start my game up today I of course try to join the server, but instead I am kicked instantly. I go to the same website again, and I see that the only people that have been able to connect to the game are members of the AMG clan: http://arma2.swec.se/game/data/5129204 The have been apparently kicking everyone that joins the server, including me every time I have tried to join. I can upload the video to youtube if necessary, but there is more than enough proof already to show they are abusing their admin status by running a private server.

    we went 1/2 way across the map then a 1/4 way to a diff spot after they magically marked our new camp right after we dropped off our vehicles.

    There is people using hacks map hacks its on youtube and today we just proved it. We had a camp get raided luckily we logged in right as they were there and killed them all. They only ever raid when we offline so its kinda... Anyways today we were watching the map after having been raided and noticed a marker on our old camp... We hopped in our convoy and took off across the map. We made just to keep an eye behind us and make sure we were not followed. Anyways we finally pick a new camp seconds after we arrive we look on the map and they had marked our new location on the map after getting there... So we figure maybe one of us did it on accident and we move camp again just to be safe. Lo and behold no problems BUT as soon as we all log off tho I wait around for about 20 minutes offline not logged in. I log back into the game at our camp and supply truck and jeep is gone along with all our loot and tents were run over. Is no way they coulda followed us without vehicles and we left sentries to make sure nobody did.

    After a few days,got some questions.

    1- Tents placement are indeed buggy, if you really wanna place a tent somewhere just run around with your gear open spamming the 'place tent' button (right click and keep spamming it). And no, they don't disappear after server restarts and they stay only on the server you place them. 2- Well, stash them somewhere safe, in the woods, preferably in a place where you know how to get to. They're not really rare, you just need to go to their spawns, and depends on the servers, some old servers people already took and the vehicles for themselves, which means they're hidden somewhere. Use this map for vehicle spawns. 3- This system is kinda buggy, I think they're supposed to stay there for 15 minutes, but sometimes someone found it first and hid it or they just sank after a while. In case you have a friend guarding your body, tell him to get your stuff and drop on the ground, it's a lot safer. 4- They change after server restarts I think. Well, not sure how long does it take for them to respawn, but if your remove the loot of it's spawn and put them far away from it (I.E.: there's a bunch of tin cans on the ground, you take them and drop them somewhere else, like 10m away from it's original spawn) it's gonna respawn faster I think, that's what I usually do. 5- You can use the DayZ loot sheet to see where they usually spawn, to be honest I always find them all over the map, in Grocery stores, Houses (mainly houses), etc.. I'd recommend using the loot sheet. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask them, I'll gladly help you out buddy! :D

    vehicles are really buggy for now, i dont even like to drive over objects, trash on the ground, not even bridges (they are buggy as hell).

    Claiming & Clearing Houses

    Yes, per server, same as vehicles. Loot spawns could remain or not. Nothing to stop server admins taking best buildings, or anyone else... all clearing would do is to remove zeds from spawning in or near that structure. And the deployable item that creates the claim & clears the spawn would need to be maintained & protected from others or wandering zeds from other structures. You could take back a town, & stem the spawning zeds but only as long as the claim item/deployable remains in place with hitpoints. Just an idea, seeing I read somewhere much earlier about an end game idea about reclaiming & protecting towns as a survivor.

    LOL yeah okay that's why 90% of the vehicles in the map where sitting in one spot..... ohh and locking the server down cause you are all worried of ur shit getting taken.... yeah ima say you were beaten and got butt hurt... but tell your self what ever you like to make you feel better...   9. Hi there, i've checked the situation, and to be honest, i am not sure why the server is locked. It shouldn't be, not only because it's forbidden to do it (for long time), it's also unlogic because so less player are on the Server. I can only image that "B.E.C.", a tool which i am using to prevent the server from being 'bombarded' by mass join/connect tries, forgot to unlock the Server. But i am not sure so i have to check the Serverlog files before i blame someone else for this failure. For now I've unlocked the server manually and now ppl are joining again. So sorry folks. P.s.: There are only 2 Situation why the Server is locked by purpose. 1. The Server gets locked if i will restart it within the next 5 minutes. 2. Or because to much People are in lobby (greater then five). - To prevent the Server of being locked forever because to much Player are in lobby they get kicked after 300 sec if they stay at lobby. @Gichtenstein, With the release of Vehicles on most Server, huge problems with lags came too. This isn't a issues which can be killed by plain RAW Power, it had to be addressed by the Devs. Thanks to the last two patches the Situation got better and better , so i can try to raise up the player count little by little and check if the Lags are under a certain level. But never forget, "Quality while playing" is more worth then the "Quantity of Slots", at least for me. If Lags are raising to high, i will drop the Slots again.

    Really? Weird...we're rocking the UAZ Offroad and I can't say we've taken any damage from running over players/zombies. One night we even ran over a good sized horde...probably 20 or more in one run, after we had to bug out of a town. What vehicles were you guys using when you took damadge?

    Thanks for uploading it. But another question: What to do with the file. If I take the folder @DayZ inside the DayZ - 1.7.1.4 folder, I will get an error upon trying to join the DayZ - Canada 2 server. Missing DayZ_Code, weapons, equip and vehicles. As in, if I replace the @DayZ inside C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead With the one in the folder. Any idea?

Im abit curious, why did you lock your server while we are playing on it ?, i just got fps problem, disconnect, tried to reconnect, now server is locked and there are fewer and fewer people on it.. My friend is still in and this is where we have our camp/vehicles.. we moved to your server because it looked very good and stabile and you sound like a resonable guy :) So im just curious as to why it is suddenly locked ? :) thx in advance -Corvax Just so I know if we should move to another server or keep trying to connect..

  14. Hey guys, I can't join a single server. It says that I deleted the files "dayz code, weapons, vehicles, equip" I have the Arma X Anniversary standalone edition. I'm running with Windows 7 x64. DayZ version is 1.7 and I am using the Arma II Launcer v. 1.4 My DayZ files are under this location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\@DayZ\addons Here is a screen (Yeah... its german, sorry) it says: "Cailev, you can't edit/play the mission because they based on downloadable files, you deleted.

    Fair point Sir! But wouldn't such an offline server pose a problem anyways? Tents or vehicles would be lost to you also. This simply randomizing a character's location seems less of a problem and yet would prevent server hopping (wrong type of meta-gaming). Just my two cents. Although it has it's drawbacks, the advantage of such mechanic outweighs the drawbacks, no?
  16. Hey I have been playing DayZ for quite a while now and i think i am ready to start playing with some friendlys for once... Heres a list of some characteristics i posses: I am 15 with a sorta middle voice, (not a Sqeaker) I am American from America and in America atm I have a mic, TS3 Steam and mumble and skype i have been in some Arma 2 Realism units which taught me radio transmission discipline and maturity I am more of a "be told type a player" I am active on Forums and DayZ I am willing to share good loot and/or not even get anything at all I am very patient especially with monitering a specific area, or to Gaurd it/someone I have a pretty good computer so you won't have to worry about me lagging and messing up anything My specialty weapons are as listed with a * meany not so good ***** meany Great Snipers **** Assault Rifles ***** LMG's ***** Sub's *** Pistols *** Shotguns ** Throwing devises *** Melee Weapons ** I'm fine with a Serious environment or a goofy one, Even both!   20. thoses both posts are weird... there is point grouping with people , and grouping with people do not means you are not exposed to danger, because you are. A single player can popcorn your group if you are not alert. Point having a group? really ? do you play this game? -bloodtransfusion -harvest materials with number to repair vehicle (or maybe you found a way to carry 4 wheel engine fuel and some others shits in 1 travel ?) -cover your buddies, help them , they do the same. Specialise. Extra ammo in someone bag, extra medicals supplies in someone else. Play a role. separate to investigate buildings, cover a place, ambush. -get 2 vehicles and scoot the map to find groundvehicles/players bases/choppers/ tents -secure materials when one of your friend is killed , send a guy to meet with the killed guy to bring him to your location faster etc etc ... to do this, you don't need ingame mechanics, you just need to socialise. G E T F R I E N D S
  21. Joke is on you, actually, since you apparently fail reading comprehension and likely suffer from confirmation bias. In light of that, the above applies to you as well, so read it. To comment though, I'd PERSONALLY appreciate the subtle visual and audio cues as they are much more immersive. I can agree with this. However, back in line with my first post in this thread, since, as stated, you also seemed to fail at comprehending some of the points there, there are senses for which there are ZERO visual/audio cues. Some of the interoceptive sensations such as hunger and thirst, being injured, etc. might have some nuanced, subtle, immersive cues to take note of. However, the proprioceptive and kinesthetic senses have zero digital analogue. Zero as in none; they don't exist. The closest you could get is maybe a slight camera wobble when you bump into something, but that doesn't even scratch the surface of self-awareness in your physical space. Nor does it simulate self-perception of where your own limbs are in that world as well. The list can go on. ArmA2 does a great job with motion and provides much more option and mobility than a tradtional FPS (should be a given since it's a combat sim, not simply an FPS). However, I'm sure BIS realized the lack of ability to provide digital analogues for some of the trickier (and quite honestly more essential) situational awareness practices, and included a third-person mode for being boots-on-ground, as they definitely had the option to restrict it to vehicles only. Edit: Grammar. 5am does not do well for my grammar.
  22. People who are using a story as a basis are off very much as in DayZ I am sure 90% of the players just assume there is no story or it doesn't effect there game-play at all. I think one of the main issues are there is no advantage to teaming up basically. Teaming up doesn't help you in searching towns basically nor does it help in survival against zombies basically. Its only real advantage is for pvp but even though most lone players will do fully fine. Also killing for food etc... due to scarcity isn't an excuse as items are plentiful in DayZ for the most part currently so people are just killing for killings sake basically. As it stands the the only items to encourage teamwork are blood transfusions and vehicles(These really only apply to larger premade groups normally)
  23. That Proprioception thing is for real. I really need 3rd person to know where I am in the environment. The swimmy gross 1st person view actually gives me less immersion because I don't know where I am in relation to anything. I only use first person when I need to see out of vehicles properly.
  24. I dunno how big your group is, but I play with 4 people usually and spawn rates are the same as the times I'm alone. There is never more than 3 zombies at a deer stand. As for 2, that's just DayZ being DayZ as is. 3. Again, that's just how it is in vehicles as of now. Zombies do not spawn until you get out, then they instantly spawn everywhere.
  25. Yeah, it, sandbags, and tank traps all seem to be very limited in use... The only barbed wire use I can think of that is server relevant is like... placing it on a road so people cannot get down it with vehicles... lol. Sandbags I guess may be minorly more useful if you want some sort of cover at some place, but still...
