DayZ Staff are overlooking administrative abuse...
Kuro5hin420 replied to Spartan36's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This whole thing is getting way out of hand and the fact that there are countless threads like this continue to baffle and confuse me. I am an admin on Dallas 24 and I have been accused of all sorts of things that I have no power to do, like spawning zombies on a player who supposedly killed me and looted my uber 1337 gear even though he didn't know what my name was. I don't have the power to spawn zombies on anything, let alone target attacks like that and I never cry about dying. I smoke a cigg and get on with my life looking for the next good loot spawn. Contrary to popular belief being an admin is more of a hassle than a privilege, because on top of watching out for bandits and finding loot and vehicles and the like I also have to keep an eye out and make sure no one is mucking about in chat (they usually are), or spamming voice channels and lagging the server, or dukeing it out in chat like everyone does here on the forums. It is a game man. I understand that it is extraordinarily good and that you love it intensely, and I do too but you can't let that lead to you acting like a spoiled brat to everyone that is trying to help you out; and it especially doesn't help when you call the people who are making sure you have a place to play/express your thoughts and opinions on the game out and say they are not doing their job. Most of what is done administratively with this game is volunteer work and things are blowing up quickly in a way no one could have foreseen so the system is stretched to capacity and sometimes things slip by. This isn't administrative negligence or the devs or mods condoning this type of thing, it is people who are over stressed and working hard trying their best to keep up with the incoming amount of work. Next time you want to post a thread like this on the forums instead you should go grab a beer/smoke a bowl, go outside, look at the stars and relax for a little bit because this really isn't as big of a deal as you are making it. -
Yes, I was referring to night vision as a whole when designing this suggestion. There is no counter aside from chucking flares and chemlights all over the place and that's just not something that is effective or plausible. Something like I suggested is plausible. There is absolutely NO way to counter NV without your own NV equipment. The guy with NV will win absolutely every single time because of how dark the night is right now (lunar cycle) and even when the moonlight is brighter it's still always NV being at a huge advantage. There is no other equipment in the game that so boosts your effectiveness like NV. It is arguably the most sought after equipment par vehicles and it's not hard to wonder why. If something's that desirable you really need to assess its balance down to the essentials regardless of rarity. And the essential question is does anyone who doesn't have this have any sort of chance? Examine other things in the game. There's plenty of different kinds of guns, some better some worse, but at least you can always shoot another gun with any gun and kill him, so you have a decent chance for survival. Night vision? There's no way you'll ever be able to counter night vision without your own set of night vision equipment, and that's the problem I have with night vision.

Seattle 24 LEGION OF SPARTA SERVER(NOW WITH EVIDENCE)
Zudren (DayZ) posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Heres what happened. Join the server after intel from my friend says that he found their camp. We jump in there and stole all their shit. We got all their stuff out and decided we were going to blow up the vehicles. I didnt go back on this mission because it was too risky for two guys. So I dcd outside of the camp and watched his screen (were in the same room). He loaded back in with like 6 grenades and started blowing their cars up. He was killed almost immediately but we still had their stuff so they banned us for "combat dodging" but it cant be a combat dodge if he got killed. They also mention on their forums about using the logs to figure out who was there. They think there was one of us on multiple names but they have banned us from ts and server. ADMIN ABUSE Video of him attempting to blow up the cars and getting shot. THEIR FORUMS http://www.legionofspartans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10009&pid=86145&st=40entry86145 no one was dodging. we just had several people running around the camp to get all their gear before they got back. -
Is 3rd person really going away?
AssMan (DayZ) replied to jjeez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
BI built 3rd person originally because of the vehicle usage' date=' primarilty aircraft because there was no real feasible way to "simulate" global awareness of your vehicle. That in turn translates to global awareness of your person. Mil-sim doesnt mean restricted views, it means realistic interpretation of applied skill sets. [/quote'] I must have missed where I mentioned vehicles. -
I was really intrigued by the amount of detail the environment of ARMA in general gave when I first got the game for DayZ. I didn't believe my friend somewhat when he said that servers used realtime clocks to make day and night. I also recently read that the game also copies the lunar cycles and day times which is extremely neat to me. I don't know if it does it yet, but I would really like to see snow and frost effects as well as things like wind condition and more adverse environmental effects. It would make stealth and everything else really interesting in the winter as well as making things more interesting in the summer; mosquitoes and other kinds of pests could be added as a detriment to player health and heat exhaustion could be a constant factor. It would also add room for things like generators to fortify buildings and keep warm. Water could even freeze and helicopters and vehicles could be hampered and require more maintenance to upkeep. These are just a few suggestions, but I really don't care much about the specifics. I just want to see a more intricate environment for the game. It's really unique, fun and interesting in that aspect to me.

Vehicles, cars, planes, helis, whatever. Id like to see a system where you can tether ONE, thats 1 vehicle to your character. So you have keys, remote, whatever. You get one that will follow you from server to server. It can be stolen, it can be destroyed, it can be sabatoged. You get to do whatever you want with your vehicle. Run it into the ditch, hide it, blow it up. You can unteather your vehicle from your character at any time. The vehicle would then be subject to the server code so if its goes unclaimed during a reset it will poof with all the rest. This would allow people to at least have one vehicle that they can rely on consistantly. It does not remove the danger of using one, or the cost to fix/maintain it. If you want to swap out, just unlink from one and link to another. This could also allow you to have a mobile stockpile, if you are bold enough to leave your loot in your vehicle. I do not think you should be able to lock or otherwise secure this vehicle any more than the way it is now.

someone named dr. medic (or something like that) was spawning vehicles like choppers in our server, I saw a flash of a message on my screen with his name (was too fast to read though), other players and members said there were planes carpet bombing Cherno, and vehicles spawning everywhere. here is a screenshot of the chopper that spawned next to me. and another from 1 of our other members

So with the Tents being "buggy" and vehicles a little too hard for the average player to locate/repair is there anywhere at all to store your valuables. I will be the first to admit that im a terrible shot, so when i find exceptionally good loot but decide to go on a hunt for say some food i would at least like to be able to stash some of my valuable stuff in case i get ganked whilst cow hunting.
-
General advice for tents: Don't leave anything in them you can't bear to lose. Besides people looting them, tents have been known to disappear off servers for no apparent reason. Some bug with the server not shutting down properly or something and tents/vehicles disappearing. I've had tents that lasted multiple patches up to the tent reset and I have tents that disappeared after one server restart. Right now they are kind of finicky so only place stuff that you won't mind losing.

The admins on Dallas 41 decided that because my clan was capable of raiding his location (full of the top guns, like STACKS of them along with 40+ mags for each one in the ural and spread around) that he could turn off his server, restart and lock it. The events began when our member found their base, we came in and provided help and prevented them from returning for 2 hours. After the area was cleared (10 kills for me, and like 12 spread around for clanmates) we headed to the location in which their convoy headed. To our surprise the dumbasses move their stuff roughly 2000KM in A LINE North, haha. We then decided to go down and clear it out, with the same 3 man party that cleared out their 12+ convoy. There was Astral the server host, I hit him once with a FAL looted off him only to find him be an abort warrior (scrub). 10-15 seconds later as we began moving their vehicles again the server was restarted twice, and then locked so they can regain their stuff back. Optional PvP settings for servers
MrEpicGoat replied to TYLERLIKESTACOS's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
PVP is an essential part of the mod... disabling it would completely ruin looting/vehicles/etc. -
sethliopod: Yes, it will. I believe you can set up VOIP which is locked to direct in the control options, but I use your method because I'm a lazy bum. The same goes for vehicles. If you switch to the vehicle channel while in a car with your friends, everyone in the car will hear you talk. Regardless of what channel you're in, there should be a local sound that anybody near you can hear.

Hi, one of the best ways to practice and test is to go into the editor. 1. Press F1 and double click anywhere on the map. Press OK. Now you have a player placed. 2. Double-click near the player and choose "Empty" in the drop-down menu. From here, select Ammo or Vehicles depending on what you want to test. Choose different ammo and weapons boxes and place them near your player. 3. Press Preview and go look through the boxes. Shoot away!

Well, what about the consideration that this mod takes place AFTER the events of Arma2's Cherno missions... thus why there are a lot of US weapons. I think the number of MILITARY style weapons should be smaller though, and the number of civilian type weapons (shotguns, pistols, hunting rifles) should be higher [than military weapons]. I agree we should be able to fix all vehicles, but maybe the parts to repair a Hummer would be much more rare than parts to fix a regular car. Just a thought.

goodbye side chat...i shall miss thee...
tacticaljim replied to lowerplains's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
SIDE CHAT should only be accessible by a repairable CB radio that can be found in game at sites such as radio towers, broken down trucks, found vehicles, etc... GROUP CHAT should only be accessible by a new grouping function and by having a equipable walkie talkie that can be found by looting. ALL other chat should take place in the direct channel. I love side chat, but it detracts from the feel of the game. Make it part of the environment (such as broadcast radios/CB radios) and I'm down but running around with magical telekinesis that allows you to magically talk and type to everyone on the map...nah...this aint WOW. -
@Saul A2 with all its expansions provides *A LOT* of content. Hop into the editor. Place a player, then place Unit > Empty and look through all of the Weapons Boxes and Vehicles.
-
I don't know much about guns and their origins, same with the vehicles, but I'll assume you do. Good find.

Chernarus is littered with US equipment... why wouldn't it be Russian. 1. Many variants of US assault rifles, and only 5 Russian (3 AKs, 2 FALs). We have M16 & M4 with all the combinations of M203s, ACOGs and Holo... where are the Russian AK107's, AK GL, AK PSO... and the s.t.a.l.k.e.r weapon Sa58? We have the M240, M249 & the MK48 Mod 0.... where is the PKM, or the PKP Pecheneg?? We have the US M107, British AS50.... where is the KSVK? And now we have British L58A2 AWS (thermal scope)... this country borders Russian right!? 2. I would imagine repairable choppers to be MI8's and Mi17s and crashed loot choppers be Mi24's... so why all the US Helicopters and not Russian? 3. If its going to be all backwards like this.... where are all the repairable hummers? there are hummer wrecks everywhere but only Russian/European vehicles that can be driven? This is all very inconsistent and unthoughtful in regard the the authenticity and immersion. Then the smaller things like.... 4. Whiskey bottles everywhere.... wouldn't they be Vodka? 5. PMC characters... is that because ArmA 2 civilians can't use Baclpacks?... if they can use backpacks wouldn't it be far better if you used them instead of PMC characters. Its all these small things that can add a huge amount to the game without really much... the environment and world scenery is as important as anything else. (realistic world = deep immersion) I'm sure I've missed alot of points... feel free to add to this, would like Rocket to understand that this is important. And the world of Chernarus is bordering Russia and Rockets story mentions nothing of US involvement.

Bored, waiting for some friends, googling dayz out of boredom to see if anything interesting comes up. http://flmsdown.net/games/1252740-day-z-v1711-arma-2-mod-2012multi2.html WITH FEATURES LIKE - Realistic "Zombies" with its own animation - former human beings who have hearing and smell, but the visually impaired. They use motion captured animations for walking and eating breakfast your wounded body. - New weapons and vehicles! - Its system of medicine. - Constant server - spent many hours working towards the goal, or looking for materials and server crashes, losing all your progress? Well with all the stats server Dayz is stored in our external database. - Tons of new objects - We just added ouzhie, we are proud that we can find things such as water, canned food, garbage and spare parts, etc. - Hunting and Survival - Food and drink is an essential part of gameplay. I lold @ the broken English. Now, don't quote me on this, but I think this might be fake!

VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16
mofokk replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Having just sailed the full length of the coast kamenka to furthest point north (near north east airfield) . I spotted 6 boats on my journey. all just sat along the coast. some bobbing in the water. some (the dingy ones) were on the beach and thery refused to get back in the water (so i killed them with my mighty axe!) what happens to boats when destroyed ? I destroyed every boat i found as it was put to me some time ago that each vehicle *anytype* fills a vehicle slot on the server. each server has a limited total number of vehicle slots and by destrying boats there is a chance to respawn a car in it's place for example ? is this correct ? only i was also under the impression that vehicles respawned wherever they were destroyed,, like for like ? confused.... destroying boats with an axe is hard work and I for one do not recomend it to anyone sane. :) -
Greetings, I write this by torchlight in the hills while the goat cooks. This mod is really interesting and atmospheric but it didn't take too long that I had the rudiments of survival (though who would have thought finding something to carry water would be harder than finding guns?) and started thinking about what came next. In pretty much all the zombie comics and movies I've seen a couple of things happen: - A lot of people panic, fail to adapt, get surprised and get eaten or shot. Lots of that going on. - Some people adapt too well, find a high powered weapon, and decide that makes them a god in this new world and everyone else is a danger / opportunity target / loot stash. Lots of this going on. - Some people focus on survival so get the necessities and head for the hills avoiding all contact since a lot of the people around are armed and crazed. Ultimately a somewhat lonely game experience though. But there's something else that happens in zombie movies and isn't in the game. People try to work together, create a small pocket of tenuous security, and try to hold out. Indeed almost every movie I know is about this group trying to survive not about a lone sniper on a rooftop or a mountain top hermit. Of course the nature of the game makes it hard to have anything persistent (or even find each other), and you don't want to take control out of the players hands, or need too much content. So while I hope there is a plan for a cooperative end-game by the people who are doing the hard work I'll throw out some ideas I had simply to get them out of my head: 1. Somewhere on the map, ideally randomized, there's a camp or repurposed building which is a survivor camp, possibly more than one. It has a couple of NPC guards who will shoot zombies or bandits within their range. This gives a small zone of weak security and makes up for players not being persistent. This camp provides shelter, a place to gather and form hunting parties, a place to camp out of the game and log back in safely but not much more. Notes giving this location (if random) could even be a loot drop. 2. A bandit is someone whose account (or they'll be "washed") has killed more survivors than X per hour of game-time (say 1 per 3). Survivors won't know if you've made a couple of opportunistic or self-defence kills, but if you've killed 100 survivors a day you are going to be a hot topic of discussion. So if a guard or player who has visited the camp can identify a person they'll know if they're a bandit or not (ie. red name). The main advantage is that it's really easy to automate, no complex code needing to try and work out who shot first, no gaming it (especially if the stats are hidden) and allows for the occasional "oops" or "yeah, co-operation is fine, but he needed to be shot for the common good". Most everything else could be left up to the players and what ever evolves. You still won't be able to fully trust each other because people can be moles for the bandits, potential bandits, low-key bandits or thieves but at least there's a place to gather and explore the issue of trust in a zombie apocalypse rather than everyone heading for the hills or shooting it out in the cities. There's some other game-play that could be extended from this, but its also more complexity: A. The humanity system could tie into it. Both being a bandit and occasionally needing the company of others. Most people probably can't handle living in the hills, dodging the dead and killing bandits forever, they'd need a place to recover. Other people would flagrantly advertise the fact they want none of it and choose to wear a bandit skin (and find another sort of stability). B. The camp could move. It might also need to be constructed, say it gains strength the more material is scavenged to build it or takes damage from presumably fighting off zombie hordes. So there's a reason to form a party and go scavenge material from industrial sites. Or maybe they can craft found objects into useful stuff. C. It makes a reasonable place to recover from infection, exposure or broken bones over time. The medicine will be instant but of course probably camped / dangerous to get. So you have to make a decision. D. It could be a place to park personal vehicles? I've no idea how that part of the game works though (not really interested either). E. It could have a per-server "community chest". Co-operative people *might* engage in altruism and trade, or they might steal everything in it, would be fun to find out. It also gives a motive to keep going out on hunting parties even when you've personally found most of the stuff you want. F. The guards will shoot at anyone who injures a survivor within their perception range (reduces exploit potential). G. You could have Jerry cans of water giving a place to fill flasks, but sometimes needing to be refilled themselves. H. Getting drunk... hey, it's another way of dealing with the end of civilisation and not all those bottles of scotch can be empty.... yet. But you'd only drink in a place you feel somewhat secure. Anyway, thanks for reading if you got here, sorry for it being long but wanted to get my ideas out so I can stop thinking about them :) Thanks again to the mod creators, there's nothing quite like this out there.

POLL: US70 Game Settings
LunaTiK (DayZ) replied to Leo (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Problem here is that most of the regulars probably play here for the reasons you listed or they would play some where else. I doubt people are coming into the forums looking for this thread and most of the posts will just be people adding to it who probably don't play there or even really care. On a side note, the GPS is still useful for driving vehicles and having a mini map up. I already know the map and the current settings just makes gameplay less of a hassle. Not sure why someone would play on a server they don't like the settings. -
Could we have rare ammunition spawn at deer stands/barracks/hangers? (bizon/svdcamo/fn fal/M107/Rockets/M240/) The weapons are rare enough, but the ammunition rarity makes those weapons disposable or not enough of a conscience choice to pick up and use over a more common available weapon such as the AKM or M-series assault rifles. 2 more issues if you don't mind, I drive around a vehicle and rush and drop off right outside a supermarket but nothing spawns except zeds the moment I step out. Unless I stop the vehicle 100metres or further away do items spawn in said supermarket making the vehicle more of a hindrance than help. Last thing I have a problem with is vehicles are incredibly fragile...a Truck with 6 wheels travelling at 2kmh and touching any 'trash barricade' would result in engine and 2 front wheels critical damage yet I can with the same truck knock down a tree with impunity. I've cleared out entire forests with my truck only to have some of the trash on the roads and those low stone walls scattered about the wilderness break my truck. Land vehicles are incredibly fragile and need to be rebalanced. I also wouldn't mind if I could use spare scrap metal to to add 'armor' to my vehicle. Engine parts to turbo charge my vehicle giving it more offroad capability at the expense of fuel usage. Fuel tank parts to increase the size of my fuel tank up to a certain limit. Maybe if it is possible, allow my teammates from inside the vehicle or open top trucks to be able to shoot while inside. Edit: I know I am asking for A LOT here, but a slight nod to this post would mean much to me and my friends as we actively search out vehicles very hard and try to make it a bigger game rather than a run and gun and kill the crap out of everyone we meet situation. I also understand this will probably take alot of time to complete.

Looking good so far. With all these fps optimizations and vehicle damage model fixes in previous patches, perhaps the time is right to reintroduce the huey in all servers. Maybe even consider adding the antonov an-2. Myself and probably many others have been waiting patiently on any news regarding aerial vehicles. Keep up the good work.
