  1. Now every good group likes to set up a base right? So once you've designated your spot you move vehicles there, set up camping tents and barricades, and that whole lot. But what about something to make it really feel like a camp or a base? Instead of just having the little 6 x 3 x 4 tents available for construction why not have the large military tents found near military camps or hospitals available? Now my suggestion wouldn't be taking these tents from their set up location on map but finding them as loot. Having different specifications for each, such as barracks, supply, medical, and command, and possibly having 1-3 storage spots in each tent. Now you may ask: "What will stop people from just putting them everywhere?" I would respond: "They can put them anywhere they can fit, if they can find them." Yes I am indicating that they need quite level ground and their rarity be very high similar to NVGs or even higher. Also I would suggest that they only be found where similar tents are placed on map or in military bases or possibly in military vehicles. This brings me to my next point, transporting the tent. I suggest that the tent, given its size, take 10-12 slots in ones inventory and possibly consume the backpack slot along with it. Now my final point is destruction and deconstruction of the tents. I am relatively indifferent to how deconstruction and destruction would work but I may suggest that it works just as camping tents did. Put forth your opinion people of Chernarus any constructive criticism is welcome!
  2. Hi.. Im abit curious, why did you lock your server while we are playing on it ?, i just got fps problem, disconnect, tried to reconnect, now server is locked and there are fewer and fewer people on it.. My friend is still in and this is where we have our camp/vehicles.. we moved to your server because it looked very good and stabile and you sound like a resonable guy :) So im just curious as to why it is suddenly locked ? :) thx in advance -Corvax Just so I know if we should move to another server or keep trying to connect..
  3. ...discovered last night that you get a VERY satisfying "crunch and "argugghh" when you run over other survivors with vehicles. Driving the coastal road to pickup some teammates who had respawned in Elektro, squashed would be hitchhikers along the side of the road. A+++ will do again.

Binding a player to one server?

Fair point Sir! But wouldn't such an offline server pose a problem anyways? Tents or vehicles would be lost to you also. This simply randomizing a character's location seems less of a problem and yet would prevent server hopping (wrong type of meta-gaming). Just my two cents. Although it has it's drawbacks, the advantage of such mechanic outweighs the drawbacks, no?
  7. Can one save just one vehicle per person or one can save as many vehicles as he wants(find)? Thank you in advance.
  8. Did you even read? Both of us saved them several times. Also 2 of my vehicles has been through many server restarts.

  12. thoses both posts are weird... there is point grouping with people , and grouping with people do not means you are not exposed to danger, because you are. A single player can popcorn your group if you are not alert. Point having a group? really ? do you play this game? -bloodtransfusion -harvest materials with number to repair vehicle (or maybe you found a way to carry 4 wheel engine fuel and some others shits in 1 travel ?) -cover your buddies, help them , they do the same. Specialise. Extra ammo in someone bag, extra medicals supplies in someone else. Play a role. separate to investigate buildings, cover a place, ambush. -get 2 vehicles and scoot the map to find groundvehicles/players bases/choppers/ tents -secure materials when one of your friend is killed , send a guy to meet with the killed guy to bring him to your location faster etc etc ... to do this, you don't need ingame mechanics, you just need to socialise. 13. Joke is on you, actually, since you apparently fail reading comprehension and likely suffer from confirmation bias. In light of that, the above applies to you as well, so read it. To comment though, I'd PERSONALLY appreciate the subtle visual and audio cues as they are much more immersive. I can agree with this. However, back in line with my first post in this thread, since, as stated, you also seemed to fail at comprehending some of the points there, there are senses for which there are ZERO visual/audio cues. Some of the interoceptive sensations such as hunger and thirst, being injured, etc. might have some nuanced, subtle, immersive cues to take note of. However, the proprioceptive and kinesthetic senses have zero digital analogue. Zero as in none; they don't exist. The closest you could get is maybe a slight camera wobble when you bump into something, but that doesn't even scratch the surface of self-awareness in your physical space. Nor does it simulate self-perception of where your own limbs are in that world as well. The list can go on. ArmA2 does a great job with motion and provides much more option and mobility than a tradtional FPS (should be a given since it's a combat sim, not simply an FPS). However, I'm sure BIS realized the lack of ability to provide digital analogues for some of the trickier (and quite honestly more essential) situational awareness practices, and included a third-person mode for being boots-on-ground, as they definitely had the option to restrict it to vehicles only. Edit: Grammar. 5am does not do well for my grammar.
  14. People who are using a story as a basis are off very much as in DayZ I am sure 90% of the players just assume there is no story or it doesn't effect there game-play at all. I think one of the main issues are there is no advantage to teaming up basically. Teaming up doesn't help you in searching towns basically nor does it help in survival against zombies basically. Its only real advantage is for pvp but even though most lone players will do fully fine. Also killing for food etc... due to scarcity isn't an excuse as items are plentiful in DayZ for the most part currently so people are just killing for killings sake basically. As it stands the the only items to encourage teamwork are blood transfusions and vehicles(These really only apply to larger premade groups normally)
  15. Well basically considering the games heavy amount of scavenging and the upcoming push on team work and player interaction i thought this might be a step in the right direction. You have to scavenge for parts to make vehicles so why not a fort or base for people to go. Implementing this type of feature would make team work a good option to take and would also make the game a lot more compelling as you would have bases full of bandit players who look to horde their gear and other bases looking to get as much as they can from collecting. You could also implement different systems within the base/fort Such as: Group storage Map Room - To plan things as a group - raids etc Vehicle Bay - To store your constructed vehicle or to build one from scratch Helicopter Spot- If the helicopters are implemented later on Gun Posts - Would have to be constructed as well as everything else in the base to add that sense of survival. Any other implementations which are plausible i will add later maybe if people think this is a good idea. The best thing about this fort/base is the fact that it all has to be built and constructed by the player and each room or section will need a certain amount of each material to even start to build. This means that the players will have to have a pretty well adapted start to even start constructing a base. You could also set this so that you can only build bases further out or within certain sections within the map. This would help with new players etc. You could always say you can build any were which would mean the players would have to watch out for these people like you see in films. Good example would be like the film "The Road" Alternative implementation idea:: (Arma2 already has a commander base construction system within it already. So you could even have it as the commander builds a construction booth and from the menu you build the expansions on the base/fort but you need the right amount of materials which you place within the command booth box.) ---------------------------------------------------------- If you like this idea let me know as i really think it could add a whole new element and playing style to the game which could really work. Thankyou all...and....Good day.
  16. That Proprioception thing is for real. I really need 3rd person to know where I am in the environment. The swimmy gross 1st person view actually gives me less immersion because I don't know where I am in relation to anything. I only use first person when I need to see out of vehicles properly.
  17. I dunno how big your group is, but I play with 4 people usually and spawn rates are the same as the times I'm alone. There is never more than 3 zombies at a deer stand. As for 2, that's just DayZ being DayZ as is. 3. Again, that's just how it is in vehicles as of now. Zombies do not spawn until you get out, then they instantly spawn everywhere.
  18. There's a lot of broken stuff surrounding what happens when a large group of players rolls into a town together. I'll try and summarize the problem: 1 - Impossibly large groups will spawn on even the smallest of structures. This violates the game's goals of realism and encouraging co-operative play. I asked my squad to cover me as I checked out a deer stand, by the time I got up the deer stand there were more military zombies in the area than at a typical helicopter crash, it was ridiculous. The same will happen at even tiny sheds, barns, and other innocuous structures. 2 - Sometimes the size of spawns that we create from structures "dries out" nearby spawns. Case-in-point: We approach Starry Sobor from the West, every building on the West side has a horde wandering around it. We get to the military tents and what do we see? They are completely undefended, not a single zombie in sight. 3 - Vehicles + Groups = Chaos. For some reason zombies don't spawn while we sit in our truck, but we have learned the hard way that if we pull up to a gas station/building/etc. and all of us unload, within 30 seconds we are swarmed by 50+ zombies. Sure they won't spawn RIGHT on top of us like in 1.7.1 but I've still had zombies pop-in in front of my eyes merely 30 meters away. I agree that there should be some scaling in challenge for groups. But not so much that our group motto is "stay in the truck" for most encounters since anything more than 3-4 people leaving the truck turns any situation into chaos. Believe it or not, even 10+ players are not able to hold off 50+ zombies outdoors without serious casualties, friendly fire, and a massive waste of resources (ammo, medical supplies) that is never worth the risk for looting a few buildings. Part of this problem stems from zombie pathing, desync issues, lag, as well - but massive zombie spawns are the core of the issue.
  19. Yeah, it, sandbags, and tank traps all seem to be very limited in use... The only barbed wire use I can think of that is server relevant is like... placing it on a road so people cannot get down it with vehicles... lol. Sandbags I guess may be minorly more useful if you want some sort of cover at some place, but still...

    VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16

Im actually with you on this one. It would be better, if the vehicles spawned in a more random way. But im happy with it as it is atm. Very playable etc. I think they now spawn on their original place, but it might spawn as another type of vehicle? I think i read that on this thread. If my mate is up to it, we will hit up north with our ATV today and find some more vehicles to blow up and make them spawn back to the game. We are a unorganized group of about 8-10 people. But at best, theres only 5 of us online at the same time so all we need is one car that seats more than 4 people. And we always stash it way inside the map, not even close to the borders.
  21. Vehicle spawning locations tend to be random. The Wiki has it right for some spots, for others, they don't even have those locations on the Wiki. I'd rather it be this way. As it is now, if you blow up a car, it'll eventually spawn back where it was originally found/found and fixed. I'd rather it would spawn somewhere else randomly. Hopefully someday that can be implemented without having to wipe the vehicles off the map for a new set of spawn points. Those losing vehicles after server restarts, sometimes it comes back after another restart, sometimes it takes at least two days of restarts to get it back. This happened to my group at one point, all vehicles and tents disappeared for two days.

    VEHICLE UPDATE (database side): 2012-06-16

I would like to find a map with all or most of the vehicle spawn points. Im not sure about your Youtube link. It seems like some of those spots were the spawn points for vehicles before the update that brought vehicles to every server. I think the spawn points have changed after that. Im pretty sure, i know at least two new spawn points that are not mentioned on that youtube link. Im really not sure about anything, as you cant really know for a fact if a car has spawned in a certain location or not. They tend to get taken FAST. Your best bet to finding a car(s) is hitting the edges of the map.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

A few suggestions! =D -You need to make it to where items are dropped on the ground rather than destroyed when attempting to place them in a tent or bag that is already full. -Starting with a hunting knife that can be used to melee would be nice, this could replace the crowbar which seems pretty much useless. -Allow empty backpacks to be placed in your inventory not just in your backpack slot. -Add the AKM to the gold AK clip list and remove the AKM clip spawn. -Increase the brightness of glow sticks and reduce their spawn rate. -Increase the spawn rate of broken vehicles near Cherno! -Remove the restart button and add an "are you sure?" warning to respawn. Anyhow thanks for reading, -Zach

    Nerf NVG

I agree with OP. Balance is important especially in a game which is at its core, is about competing for limited resources. As OP also said, NVGs are undetectable and counterplay only exists if they miss the first shot, then your chances are still pretty grim. The advantages that NVGs give players is unmatched. People can easily see and hear vehicles coming miles away. Moving smartly from cover to cover will generally keep you safe from snipers. Nighttime NVG use essentially grants the user invisibility, the user see's the enemy, the enemy is oblivious until it's too late. Throwing flares at an NVG user is the equivalent of throwing flour at an invisible gunman to make him visible. That's how broken NVGs are. It makes you an invisible gunman. That's the point OP is trying to make. So if youre trying to justify NVGs in their current state, explain how invisibility is balanced. And if you think balance doesn't matter, gtfo the forums.
  25. Yo I am a actual service member (I know that is hard to believe) looking for a server to set up a base camp with my friends and clan mates (Hardcore =]H[=). I hope to have more people join us but it would be a man made military type camp with sand bags, wire, tents, tank traps, vehicles and such. First off I need to get a better understanding of how player generated objects such as the ones listed above are saved. Every time I log into a server I find random wire/tank trap/sandbag placements all over the place [bTW STOP BLOCKING DOORWAYS] but I am not sure how long they actually last or if it's server based especially since wiki does entertain the idea of this type of scenario; which I might write up myself. I would like to build a full fledged base camp but it would take lots of time in search of the necessary equipment, manpower, and also a reliable watch standing rotation. The exception to the watch standing is to have it in an location that would be concealed well enough to not have to worry about people looting the equipment. Also looting tons of tents and deploying them in an area when they may or may not work at all makes it feel like a pointless endeavor. I am looking for people to join up. Semper Fidelis
