This is why I'm curious if they need to maybe re-think the situation on the vehicles, with the new popularity its gone from being challenging to get a vehicle to impossible and for me at least its really taking something away from the game (atm)... Thanks for the link to the map, I had already discovered this little gem. I can confirm that I have trekked to numerous vehicle spawn points, and also switched between servers in my attempts to re-locate a vehicle! ;) -

As I know a lot of players and clans etc. setting up camp and hide all the vehicles out side of the map, I think there should be trigger in both left and top of the map to say that the player is leaving the game world and if he's not return he will die. for all those who needs extra "reality" it can be simply explained that those areas are more infected and that why you cant go there... :cool:

The only things I now of that I can't find are: GPS, rangefinder, ghillie, NVGs. And ALL vehicles. Seriously, I have 45 hours played of this game via Steam and I have not found a single vehicle. I found a bicycle once but as I was running towards it the server reset... I've visited over 6 vehicle spawns and no luck, been all over the map. I've even started walking on the outskirts of the debug forest hoping to find an off-the-map hoarder's cache but no luck..

I agree, I think they go through fuel a bit too fast, but I also feel that all the vehicles do. In the real world I can go a long long time on an ATV before I need to refuel. Thank fuck for jerri cans and refueling tanks.

I'm not sure how people think tents work, more often then not when you die, your still going to have to get food and water and probably one morphine (you can always break a leg it seems) before I can get back to my camp. So the game is still fun for me when that happens. Find a vehicle dude they need constant upkeep, are extremely useful and are awesome when you find another crashed vehicle and you have all the parts stored in your working one already. I play with my 4 roommates, we have a new objective every night sometimes its food sometimes its pops/drinks, sometimes its medical supplies(that stuff is as good as gold now that you don't spawn with it). Currently our objective is to collect as many tank traps and wire fencing kits as we can and were planning on setting up a roadblock to hijack vehicles. Our plan is to try and let them live but who knows how that'll work out. It'll be just way funnier if we don't kill them and they have to stand there and watch us drive off in there vehicle lol. Also if your getting bored your not taking any risks then obviously. And for the love of this game NO quests lol. If you guys want quests go check out Wow or SWTOR or EVE or pretty much every other game in existence, please don't put it in this one.

Does this mean that EVERY time a server restarts (often once or multiple times a day) vehicle locations get reset? If I'm not mistaken, are you fucking kidding me?! People who work hard to obtain vehicles now lose them in under 24 hours. That makes them utterly worthless. If you meant that only after *THIS* server restart all vehicles will be reset, I request you make your wording more clear. That said, thanks for the update. -

Hey, Enjoyed reading your story. I was in the same boat as you I literally bought Diablo 3 played it for 2 days (got to level 13 lol) and then heard about this game, bought it and haven't played anything else since. Also for future reference about vehicles after you get one take it to a spot you think is safe and jump out and mousewheel over it till you get the save option. Now if the server randomly resets or crashes the vehicle SHOULD be back where you saved it if its not right next to you when you log back in. No guarantees though but it will increase your chances of keeping it

Right, speaking of vehicles, the fact they explode from regular gunfire or crashes seems really silly. Mythbusters has proved that you cannot explode a car hollywood style even if you shot it in the gas tank. Maybe disable car explosions in the mod? I know it makes sense for a military simulator, but nobody should be firing an M1A1 Abrams unless they are hacking anyways. Disabling vehicle explosions seems like it has no downsides to it, other than maybe server cleanup or something.

face it folks it’s a sandbox. the 50 players on a server are all playing a different game for different reasons. people server hopping for loot get good stuff quick then get bored and then start killing.. BATMANs guys above a perfect example. they don’t need to spend a long time looking for stuff (the bit of the game I actually enjoy) or even surviving... why walk for over an hour to the NWAF when you can get to 50 by server hopping? do one walk and then 50 hops and your bored shitless... so you start pinging around on top of the factories shooting people for giggles... my teenage son would find that hilarious... but I don’t play with him. so whatever reason you give for playing the game is irrelevant when there are 49 playing it for completely different reasons. they need to sort out persistence and server hopping as this makes persistence a boon for hoppers and a bane for survivors. stop hopping or make persistence server based rather than meta, like tents and vehicles. Or move the spawn points for loot around on each instance of the world, like helicopter crash sites, so you can’t ping through 50 different servers and 50 barracks. If you have to find the barracks after moving map you won’t hop.) also reduce the loot you can take from survivors (as high velocity rounds will do damage to a dudes gear as well as kill him, NVG’s with extra bullet hole are useless) to reduce but not stop PVP (lazy buggers will need to search instead of kill a guy for his stuff and it then makes sense to try and team up with a well equipped guy just to have his gear in the group) So my problem isn’t PVP, its bored hoppers killing me for shits and giggles, so change the sandbox to force them out. I want to play in one sandbox, not multiple sandboxes with Einstein-rosen bridges allowing travel between them... really why walk when you can hop down a wormhole to a different instance... -
Chernarus is littered with US equipment... why wouldn't it be Russian. 1. Many variants of US assault rifles, and only 5 Russian (3 AKs, 2 FALs). We have M16 & M4 with all the combinations of M203s, ACOGs and Holo... where are the Russian AK107's, AK GL, AK PSO... and the s.t.a.l.k.e.r weapon Sa58? We have the M240, M249 & the MK48 Mod 0.... where is the PKM, or the PKP Pecheneg?? We have the US M107, British AS50.... where is the KSVK? And now we have British L58A2 AWS (thermal scope)... this country borders Russian right!? 2. I would imagine repairable choppers to be MI8's and Mi17s and crashed loot choppers be Mi24's... so why all the US Helicopters and not Russian? 3. If its going to be all backwards like this.... where are all the repairable hummers? there are hummer wrecks everywhere but only Russian/European vehicles that can be driven? This is all very inconsistent and unthoughtful in regard the the authenticity and immersion. Then the smaller things like.... 4. Whiskey bottles everywhere.... wouldn't they be Vodka? 5. PMC characters... is that because ArmA 2 civilians can't use Baclpacks?... if they can use backpacks wouldn't it be far better if you used them instead of PMC characters. Its all these small things that can add a huge amount to the game without really much... the environment and world scenery is as important as anything else. (realistic world = deep immersion) I'm sure I've missed alot of points... feel free to add to this, would like Rocket to understand that this is important. And the world of Chernarus is bordering Russia and Rockets story mentions nothing of US involvement.

Curious but isn't the exploding vehicles an Arma 2 engine issue. So might not be fixable with a mod.

@shanks, disagree myself. Although I'm not keen on the idea of quests either, because this is a survival sandbox, there's needs to be more happening to stop you basically becoming comfortable at 'higher levels' (ie: kitted out and stock up). Maybe the occurrence of one off /rare events, NPC/AI powered higher level enemies (make use of the military zombies). Some higher level goals than maintaining vehicles. As much fun as it is, I have found myself leaving my squad and just going back to elektro to hunt bandits to keep the game tense and exciting. I'm really curious to see what features are implemented to keep the game interesting and engaging once you move inland.

Our group has collected a number of vehicles, and while I like to use them aggressively, they're basically gone forever if you use them. As has been stated before, at this stage of development I am sure that actual game play mechanics and balancing are higher up the list than fluff for the background story...you might even see the country DayZ is set in changing. It also depends how far down the authentic and realism route you want to go with these things. If you want to go to full realism, then you would be spending a great deal of time, cleaning some of your more modern western weaponry after crawling through the mud,rain, saltwater and gunked zombie than would really add to the game.The MP5 variants spring to mind here in being infamous in needing rigid cleaning and maintenance. There should be a huge bias in Soviet weaponry and vehicles in the games present setting but in the grand scheme of things, just wait till they get around to it.

Yeah I agree, it seems a bit over the top that vehicles explode like that. Also more vehicles would be good, would love to fix up an Army humvee :)

Yes, vehicles should only break, not explode. Not realistic. There should also be MORE vehicles. Right now only clan members have vehicles and park them behind the map border. Cheaters.

My group has started working on fixing vehicles so that we can make runs down south to pick up friends of ours that are new to the game and bring them back to camp.

Dallas 24 has moved to a new server location. It is now located at Seattle 124. The server move was done by my host for better prices, and to bring it closer to the hive for better performance. The server was moved, not wiped. So all your dallas 24 vehicles and tents should be where you left them. The server is still inverse time. We upped the player count to 60. So hop on over guys.

We have this problem too with a UAZ and GAZ. Current version 1.7.1.5 and Arma2Beta Patch 94103. Both vehicles are fully empty. -

Look for people's hiding spots. Vehicles take a minimum of 7 days to spawn if they have not been touched in a while. Expect a new vehicle to spawn rarely. -
