Simple Solution to Loot Farming via Server Hopping
earion replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is complete and absolute hogwash! I'm effected in a variety of ways personally, some very severe from a game play standpoint: First, it exponentially increases the rates of player logins near high value loot. So while I'm playing - legitimately moving from town-to-town to find loot - I am constantly under threat from people popping into existence behind me because they find it more efficient to server-hop to loot the same location over and over. This has a huge impact on tactical game play mechanics. If I approach a high-value loot location, carefully scouting every possible approach and then "clearing" the building, I should have some assurances that I'm not going to be ambushed by someone logging in behind me. Yes, this will still happen randomly from "fresh" spawns, but the rates will go down by orders of magnitude if we make it less profitable to server hop for loot. See this thread for an in-depth discussion on the many issues caused by frequent logins. Second, server-hopping detracts from the persistence in the world. Instead of a 225km^2 map where people are traveling from place-to-place to vye for limited resources, you have ~6 "hot spots" in the game where people spend all day constantly server hopping in an attempt to gather loot or murder those who are. Once towns or camps are "looted out" and players know they can't simply swap servers to loot the whole place again, they will be forced to travel to another location. This creates a more interesting world, and a more fluid game experience. Players tend to stay on the same server longer, and you can track enemies, be tracked, and engage in more long-term interactions than you can in a world where ~50% of any given server population are just "popping in for a quick visit don't mind me I'll just grab my loot and be off." Likewise, players who camp hotspots waiting for loot farmers to login only to snipe them before their client finishes loading would find far fewer targets - and they might actually have to get up and move around a bit and use their brains to find targets instead of just sitting AFK with their sniper scope trained on the Stary Sobor military tents while they watch Netflix and eat cocoa puffs. Incidentally this also adds more value to vehicles. Once you actually need to travel to effectively gather loot, vehicles will be even higher value assets. Third, in this game's extremely competitive environment it is important to understand the flow of high-value loot and the impact it has on the prevalance of certain items, weapon types, etc. I am personally effected if design decisions are being made about spawn rates and item rarity based on the game when it allows for such a watered-down, cheap and largely challenge-free method for collecting large amounts of loot in a repetitive manner. Don't over-simplify a rather complex issue in order to dismiss a solution that isn't that much of a "penalty" for anyone who is not specifically and directly abusing the system on a regular basis. Again, a 1500m jog is not too much to ask. Just enough to make it annoying for exploiters without really inconveniencing legitimate players much in the process. I laughed. A lot. But I'm a bit scared at the idea that people may not realize to what extent the guy you were answering to ridiculously failed to make a point. IT'S NOT FAAAAAAIR !!! HAHA ! GOTCHA ! Really... Do you seriously believe you made any kind of point there ? It's so cute. I found that line very moving. I'm even thinking about starting a thread in the suggestion forum titled "Please' date=' rocket, for the sake of realism, give Hendrix a canopener". HAHA ! The difficult questions now. Well, how come you know for sure that same person has no prior experience of shooting, reparing, flying ... ? Who said that ? Oh' date=' after 10 lines of BS, now you're having legitimate concerns. Too bad they're still totally off-topic. Topic : server hoping. For loot. To backstab. To avoid death. Bad. Has to go. I won't even continue commenting on the rest of your rubbish except this particular piece, which I'll never forget : That is a really, really cute way of understanding probabilities ! I suggest you find a position ASAP as a risk analyst in a major financial institution, they definitely need more people like you. -

I stole truck full of equipment so now I have M4A1 Holo, Coyote backpack, ammo and medical supplies after rougly 1 hour of gameplay. Also the truck is decked out, so I can just go and get some stuff whenever I need to. I had a M107 yesterday but I left it in the camp where I found the truck, so I will have to go back and retrieve it along with more vehicles. http://i.imgur.com/02FyQ.png http://i.imgur.com/CNIWl.png http://i.imgur.com/KdcVQ.png http://i.imgur.com/tSwDc.jpg I just need some damn nightvision goggles and I'm set for hunting in the dark. -
I've been playing for around 2 weeks now and I gotta say, except the occasional tractor and bicycle, we were unable to spot a vehicle to repair. We've seen vehicles being driven but we are unable to spot one without an owner so we can repair it. I've found out from the interactive maps where the spawning points of the vehicles are, but still, we haven't come across one yet. So, how does one go about to look for a vehicle? Server hopping and a shitload of luck? Thank you in advance.

Dear Rocket, I have found out a way to get rid of all this Admin power abuse. Host your own servers!!! XOXOXOXO, Legendary_Strawberry But in all profuseness you really need to host your own SERVERS(this will insure us{all your fans/followers/game lovers that will eventually buy this game} fairness throughout the game, and i know there is reasons why you let other people host, but once you give man power they will abuse. Just imagine you have 2 vehicles 4 tents filled with items and you get ransacked, or they lose a car because it has been stolen with few click of the mouse they can get it all back!!!! and they will, this needs to be stopped!!!!!!!! I know hosting your own servers is troublesome but i mean give it a thought(im pretty sure you have), but maybe instead just make your criteria harsher on hosting. and maybe hire(for free/people willing to advise servers you lend out) to look over these servers and take in comments to keep the admins in check. Nothing ruins a game like cheaters, at least hackers have to work for there cheats(which means less of them) but when you have 1 ADMIN and 10-20 plus clan mates you now have possibly 21 cheaters. I just feel like this should be addressed alot harsher then it is now! thanks for your time, Legendary_Strawberry

Would love to be able to spray vehicles as well. Nobody in their right mind would drive around a bright yellow car. At the very least they would spray it completely black, and more logically it would get sprayed with some sort of camo pattern.

Hexplore, YourNightmere spawning weapons
[email protected] replied to james222's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
as far i can see they only have them, aswell the forum is telling you will NOT get banned for picking up hacked weapons. i picked up some days ago one aswell, aswell i picked up a m4cco sd grenade launcher. besides they both have a tag when i picked them up,so perhaps there new weapons keep adding in for the people to keep varity, aswell even if they are spawned they would be banned, cause BE easely take out the weapon spawners,im not talking about the vehicles, since on my server vehicle spawning keeps being a problem, but weapon spawners,BE have no mercy with. kind regards, -
Me: MK48, FN FAL, All Equipment + Coyote backpack Teammate's / Storage: M107's, AS50's, Bizon's SD's, M4SD's FN FALs, NoobTubes, DMRS, M24's,M249, around 6-7 vehicles stacked with the above multiple times. Crashed helis and NW airfield are a godsend.

I was playing on AZ1 when the server restarted. it was an expert server but for some reason, when i relogged, the name changed from AZ1 to US57 AZ1 along with all the difficulty settings off. I wanted to leave the server since it wasn't expert anymore but since i have vehicles on it, i have to stay. It's ridiculous, i could see my UAZ through tags from 1km away.

Okay so I registered to post this because what happened was proper bullshit. So ol' Tyrone found this GAZ from Krasno after scouting for two hours for vehicles all around Cherno, missing only one frontwheel, Tyrone being smart wanting to use that car he goes on all the way to Berezino to get a spare. When the trips out and the cars rolling and its Tyrones first time in a vehicle in this game Tyrones all pretty excited like any would be. Not too much of this fun tho, the serverchat on the left starts to "xxx wants Tompson to become an admin" then "Tompson wants Tompson to become and admin" and Tompson became admin. Then Tompson proceeded to instantly kick Tyrone from the server. Tyrone was afraid to log back on incase admins have power to kill his character or simply ban Tyrone. Now Tyrones sad. No car no fun. Edit: Can anyone become an admin on certain servers by just other people voting them to?

I'm more concerned with vehicle hoarding in particular. That's just lame seeing as how they are finite. Everyone else has to walk past all that industrial loot or hold on to some against all hope of actually finding a vehicle. And the best tool for finding more vehicles is a vehicle, so the problem is exacerbated from the start.

I'm looking for a server with the following criteria : Third person : On Crosshairs : On Map doesn't show people around you Must be able to see waypoints No name-tags Admins don't own everything on the server / hide shit off map to keep it theirs. I've went through several servers and every server i've gone to has had admins hiding vehicles off map or restarting the server if they lose their equipment. Yes, i'm looking DIRECTLY at you Atlanta 59 Admin. Every vehicle on the map taken, all of them hidden off map. We thought about playing on your server, but the only thing we could find to repair was a bike. That's it, everything else is gone, we checked all the spawn points. You have a base south of the NW airfield that is surrounded by barbed wire and tank traps, don't worry, we stole all your gear and moved it off server prior to your rolling it back to fill those same tents again. We even went back and checked them to make sure that is what was happening and yep! Full tents! It is completely stupid that admins have this kind of power. Then you have Chicago 59 and UTO who one of their members is using the hack that allows you to find all the vehicles on the map. That same member and no, it isn't Loster4 bless her heart who is completely blind as a bat, can pick up people who are prone in guili suits who haven't so much as fired a shot and kill them. I've died a lot in DayZ, I know when it's my fault and I know when it's stupid bullshit hacks that happen. It's getting so out of hand right now that Battleeye REALLY needs to get involved in this because I feel like i'm playing Battlefield 3 again with all the blatant hacking. So, LOOKING FOR A SERVER that me and my friends can migrate to with the above listed things. Prefereably an Atlanta / East Coast based server if you would. Thanks in advance.

Hackers on NZ10 at 3-4:30PM AEST at Chernogorsk
Borrid posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Today on NZ10 my friend and i went to pick up our other friends in a bus at Cherno, when we got outside the town we saw two cars next to the north-most hospital (they respawned the cars later on) so we decide to check it out and hopefully steal them. We encountered 3 guys, fully decked out with Nv goggles, rangefinders and high powered weapons. We didn't think anything of it and just thought they were decked out. During the fire fight they exploded the vehicles but we managed to get their gear. After the fight some of us waited for our friends who died to get back and hopefully grab some gear, when all of a sudden what seemed like an artillery strike blew up the hospital, at that moment we decided to leave. As we were leaving we found one of the hackers called "Enigma" sitting in a field spawning ammo boxes, we managed to snipe him which is when we saw his name (Unfortunately no screenshot of it). He instantly spawned back in and shot me (I had no gear) but I managed to pick up his gun, a MK16 I believe, He then picked up all of his stuff again and blew it up, which I managed to see as I was running back. He then killed me again. We think "Mr Anderson" may be one of the hackers but we are not entirely sure. http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/918982156780540759/5BD7E6513CF3E0BC18A5C3C82183E2FD39D90ABE/ http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/918982156780450677/88AAD9A24A50D866EF51D8EBF8B2854F8CED5716/ EDIT: Found the same car they spawned in 30-60minutes later in the field close to where he spawned the ammo crates flipped. http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/918982156780922328/EB01C58FD9555F146E223A427283E9CB9B9E11FE/ EDIT 2: updated post about the flipped car, alt-tabbed back in and turned around to find it gone at 5:48 presumably he re spawned it. -
Banned from Dallas 54
doriangrey326 replied to Kataclysm (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
We have a clan mate who drives us places when we get killed, so we can get to our tents and resupply, we do this so dying becomes LESS of a hassle than it is. Its about the survival of our group. Depending on what kit we have, in what tents, and what vehicles we have available to us, we can re-acquire kit quite fast. I would like to know the exact time of that 4min re-kit though? -
The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
[email protected] replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think Day Z needs safe zones, small areas spread throughout the map where friendly players can group up and then head out into the rest of the hostile world. This safe zones where a fort, or a building would have automated turrets that kill bandits on sight. Otherwise the bandits would just camp the entrances and exits to these safe zones. Also there should be at least 10 of these in the game world. Whether it be a bunker in the middle of the wilderness. A 2 story building in Cherno, or a one of the Castles. This would allow friendly players to trade with each other, chat about adventures, maybe even store stuff, and most of all group up. I also think that civilian heli in Arma 2 (the big white and blue one with no guns) should be in Day Z, the friendly players can use it as a taxi, or a search and rescue chopper, or an exploration chopper. Lastly I think vehicles should have keys, not everyone in a zombie apocalypse knows how to hotwire a car come on! So vehicles can still be destroyed, looted, but not driven unless you are the driver or kill the driver and take his keys. Since vehicles reset everytime a server restarts it's not a big deal allowing ownership. Infact I think it would improve the RP experience. The lucky guy who finds the Civie Heli can now start his own post-apocalyptic enterprise. A can of Beans and a Soda could buy you a Helicopter ride to Cherno. (When Radios are implemented) Offer him a weapon and some ammo and He'll come bail you and your friends out of a Last Stand against Zombies, or Bandits. What is to stop Safe Zones from turning into Warzones? Well we already know the Automated guns smoke bandits on sight. But what about a Survivor that wants to go postal once he's inside? Well there are a few solutions. A General Box at the door which you drop your weapons in and get them back when you leave. Have a script that puts weapons on permanent safeties while inside. Or have a few Automated Guns on the inside too so whoever decides to shoot poor friendlies doesn't live long enough to enjoy his spoils. Bottom line: There shouldn't be any killing in a Safe Zone anyways, it would ruin the whole point of a Safe Zone. -
none of those items or vehicles are in game. as far as shooting someone and them not dying, it COULD be hacks but often times its lag. no idea why you couldnt loot your body though.

Approximately 20 minutes ago (11:53PM CDT) I was banned from the Dallas 54 server with the listed reason as Cheating/Hacking. At the time of the ban I was riding an ATV with 2 friends in other vehicles in tow. At the time of the ban my name was "Purple People Eater" but I run under 3 aliases on the server - "[rG]Kataclysm" and "[MiG] K" as well. Looking for a response from one of the Vigilant Addiction admins hopefully soon.

Possible fix to vehicle/tent hoarding
WhiteTigerShiro replied to permaphrost's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't think vehicles get saved to a player, they just exist. Tents, on the other hand, already do behave this way. When a player dies, it disappears after two days. -
As I was walking through a town, I noticed a ton of vehicles. All of them were unusable. This was really annoying, because you don't have a good way to tell a working car from a random prop. Since you die so much from zombies, snipers and broken bones, its pretty much hell to walk back to the city/town you were at. I think that more of these cars should be operational just so you can take a big chunk of the boredom factor out of this game. It would also be way more realistic, as it hasn't been over 5 years since the apocalypse (listen to the beans) and the zombies don't have molotovs and RPGs. Also, I think you should be able to scrap some broken cars for parts (scrap metal and glass) to repair working cars (though finding a broken car to salvage would be very rare). Also, I think more cars should be totally operational, as the engine and tires don't just disappear. My real point is, its REALLY boring to walk to electro or another city and we need more functional cars as the zombies don't eat off the tires and magically rust it to nothing.

How about when a person dies, any vehicles they have saved becomes unsaved (or something) and then will respawn if not saved again within a certain time.
-
Well today in my group of 3,we found the off-road pickup and were seperated from the third guy, the server had a rollback so we went far back on the way to our friend and we started driving there and see a tractor! So we feel pretty set with these vehicles and boom on the other side of the lake we see a van,so we ditch it all for this thing, and pickup our friend. We give him the only GPS left and he starts driving. We are going to start looking for some heli sites and BOOM,my friend 90 degrees and hits a tree head on while the others in vehicle were looking at maps. Luckily we all lived(oddly enough the player in the back of the car took the most damage being in the back he got to 600 blood). The van despawns and we are stuck in the middle of no-where headings towards the factory.

Atlanta 78 Server Rage quit from admin(Pics inside)
Gthunda866 posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hi, My friends and I were on our home server, Atlanta 78, where we had 2 vehicles, a bus and a tractor. Were were in Berezino at the time waiting for our new other friend who had just purchased the game, SID, and wanted to go back with us to our camp. On the way there he was hit by a passing truck from the road that goes through Solnichniy and Nizhnoye, and then ends up in Berezino. He dies and tells us that there were two off-road trucks (You know the good kind) that were going north to Berezino. We had one scout, Brett, who was raiding the hospital area around Berezino when he heard trucks coming. I was a sniper running to the location, Gman. We also had one person guarding our bus in the forest, brian. Brett saw a truck park outside of his location and decided to unload a M1911 mag into the driver and passenger of the car and then luckily got in the truck and was able to drive away. This is what happened a few seconds later. http://imgur.com/a/cIyUJ#0 The server at the time was over 40 people. Right after he shut down the server though he restarted it and a couple of us got in really quick and my friend Brett got the car again but he then shut it down again. This all happened at around 11:00 PM EST on 6/30/2012 We feel that this was un-justified and ban worthy yet we have large amounts of loot in this server so it's quite a predicament. If possible we would like the van we rightfully obtained and all the loot that was inside of it and be able to keep our loot and the bus and other vehicles we had. We also either think he completely got ride of the server or changed the name or something cause we can't find it. It is 11:57 right now. All the players mentioned are in the images above. We think it might of been |TMB| Khalled who disconnected the server since in the bottom right it says [TMB] Welcomes You. I hope everything gets resolved. TLDR Info: Server:Atlanta 78 Location :Berezino Time:11:00 PM Problem: Server shutdown after admin's truck was taken from him (Without any hacking) from people playing the game right. -
"I want to be able to grief people without them shooting me" That's all I read from the OP. If this happens, I would gather everyone I know together, assign them to random people, and loot anything they ran across, block doorways, steal vehicles, hide bodies and attract zombies to them. Dumb idea and defeats the purposes of the game, A SANDBOX SURVIVAL MOD with zombies.
-
The game experts aren't looting for cities for food, they're hunting and grilling and such. Likewise for drinking with canteens and bottles of water. No changes to vehicle mechanics. At any people hoarding vehicles would be a problem, in that case make vehicles unenterable/repairable by players that are in non-PvP status. The point is, full DayZ experience for full PVPers, lighter, less satisfying experience for those who opt out. Or, servers with PvP enabled and servers without.

Why not sweeping/resetting Servers and Characters with every new Version?
HerrEilig posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In b4 "omg u just jelly because you have no good gear and suck"... well yeah, tell this to my m24 and m4 sd. My point is this: At the current state only a small percentage of the community really contributes to the testing we're ment to do. A lot of the groups that are active players just concentrate on hoarding high-value items in case one of them dies. After respawn the player then just grabs a new gear out of the tent and just plays on as if nothing happened. Permadeath, lolwat. Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy that I found myself a group wich would try everything to secure whatever gear possible from my corpse, but this massive storing of gear completely negates the effect of possible loss in this mod. If you don't have to care for your gear, you are more willing to risk it, ie go for the pvp in heavy populated zones (in order to piss people off, because your gear is high end already) Second thing: Vehicles Again, in b4 "omg u just jelly because you never found a car, moron". Well, I did and more than once. No, I won't deny anyone the right to hide his ride once he found and repaired it. But those massive off-map parkinglots you come across sometimes are just ridiculous. I won't complain on how it's "unfair" that one group manages to obtain "all" the vehicles on a server because they "hack" and are "friends with the admins/the admins" because: -It is totally fair. -5-10 is not "all" -I ran across some too -I don't know a single admin Both things are heaviely frowned upon by some parts of the community. But, both things are completely legit. There are several valid points to both behaviours and it's rather foolish to argument against it. Except: This is an Alpha Version. As we all agree on that (well, I don't include people to my statement who think they know better than rocket about how much this mod proceeds) we are not players, but testers. Why does this in any way support the question in the topic? Well, for once, those groups with large storages are surely amongst the most active players in DayZ, ie they have good chances to come along some bug and report them. But, when excluded from many parts of the game because they simply have no need to "waste their time" searching for first basic loot, crawl through zombie-filled villages, this possible advantage (in terms of testing) is wildly negated to the state of "hit detection is laggy" and "barracks just spawn bullshit" Same thing for vehicles. If they are all just stashed away behind some trees and mainly used as storages for guns and supply, it simply doensn't contribute to testing. How to know if vehiclespawns work correctly for example? Also, the more players come to drive them, the more likely a bug might be discovered and reported. So, is it legit to store masses of gear to avoid starting all over again after death? Yes, definitely. Is it legit to store away vehicles for your group/to deprive other groups of them. Yes, it is. But do these actions contribute to the testing of the game? No, I don't think they do. I know, a lot of people cling to their gear or zombiekill-counts and will just hate to lose them. I don't. This is Alpha, our stats will get wiped one way or another, our gear will vanish, all our progress ingame will be lost. So, why not make everyone start over again when a new version comes out? Make everyone experience possible flaws, pros and newbs alike, on the same stage. Gearing up again, sneaking around zeds, all these things which could need tweaking... I, for one, think it could do something to result in a better game on the long term, instead of playing as if it was already retail... Any thoughts on this idea (if possible, none of those I "in b4"ed already)?
