You told them that you ran up on a guy and shot him in the back of the head while he was fixing his ATV, and we are supposed to believe that you were trying to help these people? Even though they already had vehicles and a camp? seems legit Arkaeus, I thoroughly enjoyed that, please trick more bandits in the future.

I totally disagree with this. This is like an easily scaleable mmo with this functionality. If a host server (excluding central servers at this stage (REMEMBER ITS ALPHA!)) goes down you can just switch over to another. But to have this to fully work out like this you would need to have cross vehicles and tents (i don't think tents follow you yet do they?). The main problem is implementation of this system (1 basic rule is max 1 per player). I think rocket will add them eventually or someone may make an addon for persistent vehicles for private hives coz I haven't figured a way to play at night yet (getting there tho) so when I wana play I gota join a US server from AUS to be in some sort of light with my friends (AUS servers normally full anyway, to bad only windows servers can host dayz) as we play after work but I don't want to do that if I have spent all that time repairing a vehicle (haven't even found any yet tho). I also dont think this would happen (if ever) untill very end of alpha at the earliest as i bet rocket has a load of things he wants to add (or remove ;))

Yes this happened to me, shortly after recent ddos attack. First time I logged in after the attack I had all my gear on me but lost vehicles, next time I logged in I was prompted to choose character sex and had respawned as if I had died. Annoying.

Why not, instead of attempting and more than likely, failing, to govern a town, set up camp in a dense woodland area? Opposed to players coming to you, send out vehicles to supply and help people in need. I get that this is already an established movement among a few groups, and that you're trying to raise the bar, but with the current spawn rate of zombies and 'asshole bandits' I don't see this working. -
I like the idea of being able to shoot from vehicles as long as your speed and the size of the gun affect it, even going slow being very inaccurate still. I don't overly think vehicles with large guns attached are a way to go unless you scavenge the gun and ammo, even so I don't like the idea but atleast it's plausible.

Touchy this one, as in the circumstances are a little "off" for a ban. Myself, I do not know all the weapon types and vehicles etc that are "supposed" to be in Dayz. Now, it could be said that it's the players own fault, but are all players expected to read / learn / and memorise the "allowed" list of items in game ? I only have sympathy in this case because I myself have joined a server that I later found out was a "hacked" server, there is no way to tell and being banned for something that is in many ways beyond your own control isn't very fun. I can see the admin's reasoning though, if they know what weapons should or should not be used, and someone is using one of the weapons that they should not have access too, then yeah, I can see the ban being reasonable. I'd like to see the outcome of this, as in my mind if the above situation is correct then the ban shouldn't stick. It was however rightly placed but once clarification of events, i.e, the player has explained how they came to be in possession of the weapons is heard then yeah. I would be "watching" that player in future though, as in this case it's easy to just say "I picked them up" and get unbanned and do it again. I'm not saying that this is the case, it's just something that an admin would be thinking of

Here's how it works, We put many many vehicles with the same repairing system. Jerry cans you find will be all empty You cannot fill jerrycans through fuel tank. You need portable generator to pump fuel from the fuel station, which would make a lot of noise, thus zombie horde pours in(Like L4D) Defend yourself and escape when the fuel proccess is complete. -Pros- No more hoarders. More people have access to vehicles Exciting trigger event More realistic New resource that becomes much more valuable(group fights and raids become more often) -Cons- Could make performance sfraint to the servers. There could be too much working vehicles which could break the immersion

Trying not to be negative here but as soon as clans stop acting like tools and hoarding vehicles I'd definitely consider joining one. (Not implying yours does, but I hope this gets fixed soon so I actually want to join a clan). And yes, inb4 I could be waiting a looooong time. Anyways, good luck with your recruitment! -
DayZ Mobile app for Android (v. 1.50)

Another fruitful day behind (8 hours give or take). I had a lot of trouble trying to keep this app working for Android 1.6 as there is indeed ONE user using that version of Android and I don't want to disappoint him/her by not supporting his/hers device (Got you covered pal ;)). Every consumable data is now integrated into the app. I also made it so each time you look at the world or loot map it doesn't reload (not even when changing phone orientation). This way you can check weapons, vehicles etc. and when you go back to maps they are where you left them. They also start loading right as you start the app so they are immediately ready unless you sprint to the maps section :) This newest version is v-1.30 and is downloadable from DayZ Mobile for Android Or if you can't install from there, here's a straight download link for the .apk. Here are some pictures of the new and improved DayZ Android app: I had some trouble with the emulators again so if you have any trouble with old devices or very small / very large screens then please let me know. -

Go play on a legit server like everyone else, its a better way to learn the game and will give you a truer experience - DayZ without bandits is not DayZ.

I usually assault as many deer stands as I can from the start because they're not heavily guarded and provide a good chance for AK weapons, water bottles and ammo. From there I usually head to a moderately sized town which has supermarket to find food and tools. From there I usually head to Stary military camps for additional firepower and from there to NW airfield. I usually find players willing to help each other around the airfield and then the process of finding and fixing vehicles.

I am in and subbed to this thread to keep an eye on it. I will fill whatever role you need, but I would willingly be a medic, sent with the convoy to fix any wounds, or to head out and help a player stuck with broken legs. I don't know about cherno, but I'd be willing to try it. I think maybe a blank spot on the coast by cherno may be a better idea. Then you can have snipers overwatching the whole encampment, easily cut the territory off from vehicles, and you'd be free of the zed problem. Killing them over and over and over is going to drain ammo, especially with five people taking four shots at one zed.... I think that will be the biggest problems with zeds in cities, too many ppl will either shoot the same zed, wasting ammo, or no one will and assume someone else will. -
Well my friend never found a vehicle till today.. We took out a clan and stole their truck then found a boat and then a fishing boat, so he found first 3 vehicles in one day. But awesome find!

Correct, you are not allowed that rule. Currently there are very few things we can ban for but luckily 1. and 2. of your previous points are bans. I'm unsure of number five, perhaps i have catching up to do :). Could you point me to the official word on that rule and I will have it removed on the next server restart. Thanks for letting me know about that one, guess I will have to put up with it. It may or may not have been commented on officially, but I refuse as a host to allow players to store their vehicles far outside the gameworld, to me that is an exploit which ruins other peoples fun in the server, tons of people ask me about the server's vehicles and when they can expect heli's and they have shown a huge interest in them, but if a group are hoarding them all out the map then they have no chance of ever coming across one in normal gameplay. And to me it is warrant a ban if they do not bring them back inside the map, along with the other points I feel the ban on these guys was justified. I'm afraid I do not have a link, the thread was lost in the DB rollback that happened after a hack attempt (well at least I cant find it so I'm assuming it it was). You should PM a mod for clarity on it but it was commented on by devs themselves that it wasn't allowed. -

Not sure what you mean by not all servers can spawn vehicles? is there a server side setting for it?

Test out my suggestions in your own mind to see if its fair, if you really like it, spread it around, perhaps we could get someone higher to give it a look. Give feedback or something else that may be added and I will try to add it logically, or alter what I already have to something that fits into the game. Index 1. Murder consequences 2. Barbed wire solution 3. Character immersion 4. Team play Murder Consequences 1.Blood There is a new stastic on your character it is blood, but not in your body, on your body. The max we will say is 20. You gain 1-3 blood on your character if you kill another player up close depending on your weapon and/or disance. You also gain 1 blood when looting another player's corpse, it only happens once, but will affect everyone who touches the body. The effects will give varying increase of detection to zombies aswell as give you character a bloodier look. At the max of 20 zombies would be attracted to you as if you had just shot a M1911 constantly. The blood will not fade, however if you switch your clothes you will lose 5 blood, but the blood will remain on the clothes. You would not be able to get 4 sets of clothes then keep switching them at 20 to reach 0, instead your clothes hold a potential of 5 blood and you hold a potential of 15 blood, if the amount of blood goes beyond 5 it goes on you, but if you changed clothes you could remain low on the amount of blood on you. Beyond this the blood is permament to your character as long as he is alive, except an additional item that is as rare as antibiotics that will clean all the blood of you and your current clothes. Killing or looting zombies have no effect on the amount of blood on your body, for player balancing reasons. 2.Dreams Everytime you login beyond your creation you will make a sound players and zombies can hear by default to. Essentially everytime you log out and back in, its as if your character has been sleeping. Perhaps a couple coughs or a grunt within a 10-30 meter radius that isn't that loud but enough to tip of an alert person if they are close enough. Players will be able to hear it farther then zombies, but zombies will still be attracted if close enough. The more murders you commit to a certain point your character will have nightmares, it would start with pants then evolve to waking up screaming, until an extreme to just waking up yelling with the range of sound as an enfeild from insanity, perhaps a total of 20-30 murders to reach such an extreme. At 40-50 your character would not make any noise at all upon log in. However if you killed bandits your scale will be put down by 2 per bandit kill, if you gain 2 bandit kills without murdering, your character will login as they currently do now. (All numbers are placeholders will be changed to something suitable when someone suggests.) Explanation 1. This effect as with adding the realism of getting blood on your body from dealing with corpses, killing close range, will give you a consequence of killing someone so close, and makes you think on who you should kill for good items, or what bodies to loot, aswell as show others who get close enough how many people you have potentially killed. Zombies are exempt from this as to add a player only interaction that others can see upon you. In the future perhaps more slight effects will be added to players over their characters time to tell more about them from a distance other then the loot they have. 2. This effect is for the current troubles of server hopping or someone spawning behind you in a building, aswell it adds to realism as, you wouldn't really sleep in a building without locks in a zombie apocolypse with murders everywhere would you? It also makes you think where to "sleep" that is safe and gives another consequence of killing another player that you may also feel in real life, as well if you were to ever kill so many people. Another player only reaction to add to give consequence to make you think where you would be safe to log out. Barbed Wire Solutions(Multiple solutions from worst to supposedly best) 1. Remove them until duplicating is fixed. 2. Make barb wire share the same lay down system as a tent, only allowing them to be placed outside, and a bitch to place, but still able to be placed to cut down on abuse. 3. Have Barbed wire share the same lay down system as tent with the exception of allowing them to be placed indoors. Aswell having them able to be traversed by going prone and under them. * Make tank traps unable to be placed indoors aswell take 3 players to place and remove them. Explanation Barbed wire and tank traps are used to keep players out of many areas, potentially screwing all new players, it is out of hand currently because of duping and needs a solution now, or duping halted, aswell a future solution to stop barbed wire clipping through walls and being only used to prevent others from obtaining loot. With 3 and tank traps unable to be placed indoors and require more people, their initial uses would come back again and instead of instantly being used to grief, they would be used for more appropiate things like making an obstacle course in a building able to be passed, but slow enough to kill anyone who tries to enter if your inside using it as a base, and tank traps being used to close off a road your team is holding down. Character immersion 1. Character customization Upon creating a character beyond choosing gender, you are now allowed to choose 3-5 traits for your character that fit between solo and grouped play. Traits will take up different amount of slots from 1 to 2, up to a maximum or 3-5 trait slots.(Max amount undetermined) Solo traits: Hunting: Able to gather double meat from gutting animals.(1 slot) Resident: Able to move more silently.(1 slot) Group traits: Medic: Able to use a new medical item found in hospitals to administer blood pack as well as create wooden splints from bandages and wood piles.(2 slots) Mechanic: This trait is necessary to repair helicopter rotors, as well as allows reinforcing upon vehicles.(2 slots) (More will be added in future these are just examples, original idea from http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=27963) 1a. Additional effects of traits Along with the added bonuses to the skills you have chosen, solo traits(and Medic)decrease the effects of mentality toward your character, while group traits besides Medic have no effect on mentality. A possible additional effect is depending on your traits allow you to spawn elsewhere besides the shore with a specific set of clothes depending on location. Some solo traits will allow you the choice to spawn with an item, but some Group traits force you to spawn upon shore regardless. Solo Traits Hunting: spawns in forest with a hunting knife with appropriate clothes Resident: spawns near a road at random with matches and a couple tin cans or empty bottles as well as civilian clothes. Group Traits Medic: Forced shore spawn with appropriate clothing. Mechanic: Forced shore spawn with appropriate clothing. (Remember still WIP list, just examples) Explanation Along with give incentive to group together, it allow players to be on their own if they wish, along with give more variety to clothes and spawn location. It would also give you your own character you can choose what he excels at, along with giving your character a mentality based on your choice to have a base with all/any mentality effects if they were to be implemented. Team play 1. Radios Allow radios to have channels you can switch to when obtained that are able to have password control, to allow teams to type/voice chat with each other. Along with this, the position of all players with radios in the channel appear on a map if you have one(potentially have a new tool to find radio signals), however they won't be marked and would potentially have a lag time of some sort. The only way to find out where a specific team mate is, is to talk to them, then follow the map to which signal they lead you to. -

Ex1le, the ban was not given for purely and only speaking russian, the things which contributed to their ban were in no specific order as follows: 1 - Disconnecting during combat on multiple occasions 2 - Insulting the administrators and their decisions 3 - Speaking russian on chat even after being asked on multiple occasions to only speak in English/French so the majority of players can understand, considering everyone hears it, this rule is very reasonable. 4 - Spamming chat with absolute nonesence 5 - Collecting a large quantity of vehicles and storing them far outside the map bounds, so that the average players has absolutely no way of recovering them The above ban reasons aswell as a few other minor issues were what lead to their group inevitably being permanently banned from our server. Prior to this we also temp-banned one of their group members so that he could reflect on what he did and then return after the 3day ban to continue playing. But they have gone way too far for our liking and we will keep these bans enforced. -
I'd like to start this post off by saying that I don't consider myself a bandit and more often than not I'd rather help a person than shoot a person, but today I ran into an opportunity at revenge I just couldn't pass up. A little bit of backstory: A week or so ago I had broken my legs near the shore around Electro and so my friend Vylent grabbed the ATV from our campsite and made his way to my location with morphine in hand. Along the way he had the misfortune of wrecking and flipping said ATV on a bridge and while he was trying to get it unstuck a couple dudes roll up in their own ATV and pop him in the back of the head and strip him of his gear. Fast forward to present day, a week later. I'm running along the shore and I encounter a fresh player, no weapon, flashlight... ect ect, and he has a mic and so we get to talking. He seems like a pretty friendly guy and one thing leads to another and we end up sharing skype information and forming a group of six. 3 of his guys, and 3 of mine. We're chatting it up for an hour or so when he tells me a story about how he killed some guy wrecked on a bridge in a flipped ATV and after checking some facts with his story I confirm that this guy was in fact the asshole who had killed Vylent last week. This revelation alone wasn't enough for me to want to kill the guy, but then he goes on about merging camps, and "Hey where's your base located" and other shady shit, and It becomes clear to me that this guy and his friends are going to rob us if we give them the chance. So we pretend that we're going to show this guy where our base of operations is. We tell him that it's located far up north about a two hour trip on foot and so he offers to give us a ride in a car he found. We have him meet us a ways away from town for the pick up; north of Berezino and OF COURSE he brings friends and there's not enough room for all of my group in his car, and only one or two of us can squeeze in. Sounds like a one way trip to me. Sounds to me like he's going to shoot us in the back when we arrive and take all our stuff, and how convenient that the number of pals he brought along for the ride matches the number of vehicles I told him we have back at camp. Once the car stops we tell the would-be-bandit that Vylent is low on blood and he needs a blood pack and when Mr. Bandit gets out of the car to heal him I say the code phrase that lets my group know that shit's about to go down: "Vylent can I have that Ghillie suit back?" Instantly my group lit them the fuck up. I pumped a guy's face in the back seat so full of lead that my AKM ran out of ammo and the fight was over before they even knew what had happened. Skype blows up with yelling, you can hear some guy in the background screaming like a psych-ward patient "I FUCKING KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, I FUCKING KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN!", they're shouting real life death threats at us, saying they know where we live IRL and that they live 15 minutes away and blah blah... all the while we're stripping their bodies clean and loading our new gear into our new car. I was laughing so hard that my eyes were tearing up. God I love this game.

Hey all, first post here :) Just wanted to throw in my 2c. I started playing this mod a few weeks back and after several deaths early on I quickly learned not to trust anyone I came across. I also learned the value of traveling with companions and how much more effective two people are in just about every situation opposed to being a lone survivor. I travel in a group that's usually between 2-6 people strong. We kill just about everyone we come across (after scoping the area out, checking if they're alone or with friends, checking for nearby Zed's that may aggro etc, then follow them waiting for them to make a bad move like run through an open field or something.) I've been alive 15 days now and I personally have 8 murders to my name. Between us all it would be in the 20's, and we have taken no casualties yet as we're very careful to engage and will not if it's too risky. There are plenty people we've seen, that haven't seen us, that we've let live simply because its too dangerous for us to kill them and retrieve their equipment.... Now my point is this: Playing as a bandit is in no way "Easy mode". We still raid supermarkets, still check deer stands, still have to find food / water / medical supplies / fuel for vehicles etc. I believe it's just a better way to survive. My advice to you is don't trust anyone you see outside your immediate group, and if you are alone you're most likely going to be an easy target. There was one murder we made at the airfield by getting our sniper to shoot in the general direction of a target he couldn't actually see, and when the target turned to face the direction of the gunfire, that allowed the others to pop up behind them and make the kill without having to worry about being shot at. At the end of the day, It's either you or me....

after i have read the last 5 or 6 sites here and maybe 2 weeks experience: my thoughts about this pvp thing: first thing i mentioned was that i expected more coop... till now i only met twice a friendly person: the first died in front of me because he aggroed zeds after writing "hey" to me. second did after 15 minutes or so... Then i was shot maybe 3 times by snipers. ok this IS annoying at first of course BUT: since then i thought about it and became really careful, not to say paranoid. u know it... avoiding open fields, checking each single corner of a city before going into it, much sneaking etc... and what happened? no more shots , mostly deaths becouse of own stupidity. Right now i'm in a "ill give it back to them!" mood... and i did and i do. and yes shooting on sight too. but what do you expect? as i wrote somewhere else there was a totally new survivor who joined our 2-man group, really friendly in voicechat, no problems. when we went into a house we let him pick up a shotgun and he shot us from behind at the next situation... so even being friendly for maybe 30mins doesnt make friends... lucky who has a good known friend in ts... but this is it what makes the game special and so great for me. you will have to get along with snipers, bandits and other survivors, even if its "unfair" or whatever. never ever implement pve/pvp areas! dont punish bandits for murder. if you cant manage to avoid them this is also a thing of skill as many others here said too. if you really want to go safe with a group, i guess you can first ask "reallife" friends or search forums for existing clans/groups! still i agree with those who want a bigger survival part. after quite a short time you can get all u need to survive (eat and water) without going into cities, by water bottles and hunting knife/matches... ok you can search for vehicles but this could be far more "high end" and also harder over time. dont know how ;( one short thing about serverhopper: why not give serverchanges a cooldown? like each new connect takes 10 minutes more for one hour for example... this hopping and disconnecting in fights is far more annoying than every bandit... -
How's the vehicle count doing? All hoarded? Ruins the day for me when a set of group got ten vehicles when they barely use three. :P
