But no one actively pursues deer stands-- Not when a fire station or the NW airfield can almost consistently produce better results. Crashed Helicopters are pretty common, and you pretty much max out your character after one visit-- A bison and 6 mags (2 bizons, actually) and I went down into cherno and had a killing spree. Other than crashed helicopters, there is no reason to go to anywhere but these 3 or 4 places (If you count berezino, which is just another big city with less people.) Also, vehicles and tents are too inconsistent to safely store loot and items- It is better to just make a trip to a common helicopter crash site or the NW airfield than run up to a secluded tent and then back down. Most people don't "just survive"- Its just too easy and boring.

Not one of those locations you mentioned has vehicles. Fail thread. But yeah, its an alpha. Of course it has problems. Nothing new that we haven't seen in a hundred other threads though

Seeing as how rocket is going to add a logout timer (or some other fix)' date=' this won't be an issue. Obviously it's still broken, but you can't use an exploit that is slated to be fixed as a defense for your argument. So it's unrealistic for A to kill B and d/c, but it's realistic for B to respawn and take revenge on A? Again, d/c abuse will be fixed -- I don't know why you think you deserve to be able to hunt the guy down on your next life hours later. Obviously at some point people have to log off -- and when they come back they're not guaranteed to be on the same server. That's why most of the REAL fights are over tent cities and vehicles -- things tied to the actual server. You're trying to design the game around random scrubs who don't even know what they're doing yet. -
Ural has some weird items, help needed
Ander (DayZ) replied to deuk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just a notice: We regularily clean up non legit items. Players found on MULTIPLE times will raise flags in our systems and may risk getting their playerIDs made defunct in DayZs database. Players who stumble upon hacked items on off chance dont run risk of flagging. The ones at risk are those who repeatedly spawn items and are in possession of these items. I'd however recommend that those items in that ural is thrashed as those items will be removed in regular database cleanups. That ural "may" have been a legit vehicle but it's likely a spawned vehicle. If at next server restart it doesnt spawn back in at the location you left it at, then it wasnt a legit vehicle. The items in it is definately not the standard items and it's likely it's one of the hack spawned vehicles. -
Database cleanup [2012-07-03]
Ander (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
* Implemented a method to re-create vehicles that were missing entirely from some instances. (either caused by hive bugs or too heavy clean-up in object database, this affected less than 0.1% of available vehicles but would still need to have been done some time in the future). [2012-07-07] @poisonman: they are pretty rare, cant reveal exact spawn chance :) but I think there are some loot maps floating out there with guesstimates. @people asking about missing inventory from vehicles/tents: Known bug. Will be fixed with 1.7.2 or upcoming minor hotfixes after that release. Other notes: There seem to be an issue where weapons sometimes disappear out of backpack. Need more testing to fix. -

Obviously disconnecting is an easy way to get out of dangerous situations and keep all of the loot one has just yanked. even less consequence.. i just killed random dude now i am on different server he can't even get revenge if he tries... ultimate burn. feels so good to be a doosh for all those kids that get picked on at school. Yes i understand that anyone bandit or survivor can do that.. the current balsance encourages people to do this to try and balance it out. spend hours and hours only to be killed by some such person.. Anyways sorry about the rage.. Here's a possible solution to reduce DMing on the servers: Maybe Bandit bullets should only work on a player that has better equipment than they do. So no more senseless killings by a fully fed bandit with more food and a better gun than their victim. Also the one they wrongly tried to kill would be able to go after them as they would have the lesser equipment (forcing bandits to think twice about killing for lulz). People would then only bandit in roleplaying appropriate situations. As it is with killing for vehicles make anyone killable within 50 feet of a vehicle or something. -
Out of bounds item/vehicles cleanup [2012-07-06]
Ander (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The green acres Im refering to that now have a 6h respawn limit is the area outside of vegetation (no grass texture except the flat ground, the border can be clearly seen and other people here have posted pictures). You arent supposed to be able to pitch tents there but due to bugs it has sometimes been possible anyway. Tents, sandbags, wirekits, tank traps and so forth have now been wiped. There are fields in far north, west and northwest that are fine to setup bases in that still have long grass. But I'd personally say those fields are usually where people get the same idea... so they stumble upon other people camps. Someone complained that this is a "win" for carebears. I'd say this is a nerf against carebears who want safe places to store their phat lewtz. This is a boost to playing inside the map borders. Grow a pair, hide your bases better in deep forests. Dont store your vehicles in large psuedo-parking lots where they are easy to spot. Got myself a nice little camp in almost center of map where we have a couple of tents. Gone 2 weeks without anyone finding it (L85, NVG, rangefinder etc). If you want to build big camps (that are easy to spot), prepare to defend it or keep watch. I know some hardcore communities out there actually post guards through out the day/night to spot hostiles. As for the future. I've got a few ideas on how to assist people who do want to build bases and fortify it. I'll be discussing it with Rocket and see what he thinks. And also a few ideas on method to handle ghosting, more on that in separate posts. -
Out of bounds item/vehicles cleanup [2012-07-06]
SPESSMEHREN (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
LOL Better hurry and store your important stuff in your tent/car and sprint to the NW airfield for 1 last "hardcore PVP" session.. Soon death might matter to you like it does to us carebears. Ha so ignorant and condescending. I was in top death leaderboards for months' date=' knew the map inside out while you were still getting achievements for pressing space in some carebear game of yours. By the time I hit 1k hours playing dayz I pretty much done everything possible in this mod. Items are far down on my list of things I want from this game. But the group/clan aspect that this game has is practically being removed due to not having a lasting objective/goal/base because you whiners want free and easy stuff BECAUSE YOU CARE(bear) about it more than anyone, why would you be so happy otherwise? pathetic hypocritical ignorant twerps. [/quote'] Are you so naïve? You are the one who wants safety. You are the one avoiding pvp. Putting your stuff off map is far more "care bear" than anything I've heard suggested around here except "remove pvp". Setting up your little green acres camps is weak. Why don't you just go play arma on your own server and set up a super leet camp full of stuff and just sit there looking at it? Man up, grow a pair and figure out how to survive inside the boundaries of the game. Or you can go back to collecting hair clips on Hello Kitty Island. Oh my god this! You'd have to be blind, or just downright stupid, to not see the irony of bitching about "carebears" getting saving vehicles off the map removed. -
unfortunately, there was no possible way to steal those vehicles. They were hidden in a spot that no one would ever go and would have a tough time stumbling upon. The tents were completely separate, and they were all spread out... I guess the server reset and wiped everything... i dont get it, why does this always happen?

After clocking my 107th hour into DayZ today, I feel like I’ve gained a fairly good grasp of the game, and I have experienced the intense high and bitter bitter, bitter low moments of the game (still haven’t found a helicopter though). I will split this into 3 sections regarding gameplay aspects that I feel are missing from DayZ; aspects that could greatly enhance a players experience in DayZ. If I was a dev, this is where I’d be heading with the game. COOPERATIVE GAMEPLAY & BASEBUILDING Cooperative gameplay, I feel, enhances DayZ massively. While the sense of abandonment running across a dead, still, open field is an awesome and previously before unfelt emotion in gaming, DayZ simply is more fun when you’re playing with people. Try it if you don’t believe me. Basebuilding is already being attempted in the game, as groups of players seal off buildings in towns/ airfield with barbed wires, place tents in military bases, etc. Basebuilding is an essential component of cooperative gameplay as it provides a common objective, provides a physical location that is “home” in the DayZ wilderness and is a way of boasting a player group’s success at the game. 1. Respawning at tents. No, I don’t think this is overpowered at all, given the rarity of tents as loot anyway. The function of this would merely remove the tedious run from the coast after dying to retrieve equipment. A way to stop this becoming overpowered would be making tents have two modes – storage or spawning. -Storage, keeping the tent functioning as it does now (1.7.1.5). -Spawning, in which the tent cannot be moved after being placed once, and cannot be used for storage. Also, the spawn point is across servers. 2. Base building through fortifications such as sandbags, barrels and tents. Currently the only use of existing fortifications is to fill buildings doors to stop players entering the damn building to get the morphine that they need for their shattered legs (yes, this happened to me). It’s douchery at its finest, and by introducing a purpose for these fortifications in base building, perhaps I’ll finally be able to enter the tower at NW airfield. This will also develop upon the clan multiplayer gameplay that makes DayZ so thrilling through building a home base. This coupled with tents as respawn locations could make for great dynamic, player generated sources of loot, and zones of extreme danger. 3. Introduce shovels which can be used to build dirt mounds / create trenches. This will also be useful for the base building mentioned before. 4. More cross compatibility for weapon amunitions, such as all 9mm pistols (silenced or not) accepting a single lootable 9mm magazine, rather than separate magazines for pistols. I do not consider finding ammunition a challenge of the game, as there is always plenty for common weapons, and pooling loot will enhance cooperative gameplay. Mass stores of ammunition in above discussed player encampments will lead to enhanced scavenger gameplay. Obviously keep specialised ammunition for specialised weapons, such as the Bizon SD. GENERAL USER EXPERIENCE 1. Servers that are configured at timezones must be labelled in their name, and be able to be filtered by this timezone. For example, there are about 30 Atlanta servers online at the moment – does this number of servers need to be available at Atlanta timezones? Spread the servers across timezones equally, so there are always enough servers to support the large numbers of players. 2. Attachments for weapons as lootable items, such as silences, scopes and sights, barrel modifications such as flash or noise suppressors and silencers. 3. Zombies or infected in the game I feel should be dumb, lumbering hunks of meat until they become ravaged. I like the aggressive nature of the zombies when alerted, they are dynamic, voliatile and most importantly, deadly. Make zombies take 2 or 3 more bullets to kill from weapons (hence enhancing the threat they can provide), though dumb them to the sound of bullets. At the moment a gun in a town is almost always a death sentence, rather than an object of defence as I feel it should be. 4. Lootable wire cutters to destroy barbed wire fortifications set up by douchebag players to block of building entrances and/or to break through chicken wire fences in the game. 5. Craftable splint for broken bones, such as two bandages and a crossbow bolt, or wood. When applied the splint will allow players to stand up and walk with broken bones, however not run (morphine will still have a usage and be a necessity). 6. Spawn with the hunting knife, which can be used to gather wood kindling for usage in a splint with bandages, or part of a melee system for defence. 7. Ability to run with a torch while still illuminating the ground in front of the player. GAMEPLAY 1. Introduce a fully-fledged melee system, or reintroduce a starting pistol with only one mag until it can be done so. Reintroducing the starting pistol until a more complete melee system can be implemented won’t make the game easier, nor will it make it more accessible to inappropriate shoot-em-up audiences as a starting player will have to more strongly consider the sound of the pistol, and experience the drawbacks of the pistol – i.e. it cannot be used as a sniper rifle or a shotgun. It also will not detract from the heart crushing agony that death in the game provides, however it will remove the thereafter kick in the balls that no starting pistol currently gives players. 2. Everyone has been trying to think of a method to stop players disconnecting, however I don’t think this is the problem – I think the problem is players shooting at others meaninglessly. Punish players who shoot and hit or kill others players by preventing them from logging out for 5 minutes after the incident. Also, for players that are genuinely pathetic and do disconnect to escape death, after opening the pause menu, the player must wait 5 seconds before being able to click the disconnect button. This will prevent players disconnecting to escape zombies chasing them, and means players aren’t ever crippled by being unable to control their character from a simple delayed disconnect timeout. 3. Many more vehicles in the game (such as throughout towns and along roads) however make the vehicles highly damaged, often needing a complete repair. This will not make the game vehicular havoc like in Battlefield 3 due to the rarity and weight of vehicle assets, however the gameplay opportunities offered by vehicles is often not explored, given the sparseness of vehicles currently. Having vehicles available also enhances cooperative gameplay (common objective). 4. Night time, keep it dark as it currently is, however make lights have a more potent effect on their surroundings so the game is actually playable at night with a torch. Possibly introduce streetlights in towns. ____________________________________________________________ Obviously this is just my suggestions and opinions; you don’t have to agree blah blah blah internettiquette. Also, I’m not a programmer or game developer by any stretch of the imagination, so I have no knowledge as to whether the ideas presented above are possible in the ARMA 2/ DayZ engine. These are simply ideas presented at the face value that an idea should be. Written at 12am, give me a break my Führer. Tldr: Melee system, base building, weapon attachments, stop disconnect abuse and vehicles. Also, tell me your opinions on this shit, yo. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/vsf81/gets_sniped_at_goes_around_steals_a_gun_from/

Out of bounds item/vehicles cleanup [2012-07-06]

Well' date=' it's either listen to the "carebears" or listen to the elitist self-entitled h4rdc0r3 clan idiots. Take your pick. [hr'] Those who decide what's right have changed what that means' date=' haven't they? [/quote'] Plenty of people in this thread calling for players not to be able to store gear and vehicles AT ALL, regardless of map bounds. Once you die you respawn along with all the gear you hid, etc. That is bullshit. In theory, that sounds like a great idea. Permadeath is a very powerful concept that has the potential to completely change how players value their in-game lives. In practice, however, it's nearly impossible to do. How would you "tie" a car to a particular user? And, as usual, dedicated clans that devote every waking minute of their lives to one-upping everyone in DayZ would find a way to cheat the system. -

Hey fellas. Listen, we have a TS that is public for anyone and everyone to join, but before I get onto that, I figured I'd say what I have to say. Or basically, what I am looking for. I am looking for players who are dedicated, mature, tactical minded, and willing to work together as a team to complete various objectives. Whether it's patrolling for vehicles, or camps, or going to the NW airfield at the early morning hours, and being overwatch, or provided spotting for your sniper, or having an assault rifle and moving from the main buildings in support of the rest of the group. Basically, I say this. We aren't a clan, basically it's just a community of like minded individuals who come on and play the games they enjoy. But I'm trying to at least take the DayZ portion to the next level. We have players from all over, who operate at different times, and things like that. Some requirements: Maturity (I won't make an absurd age requirement, but due to issues in the past I'd have to say I'd personally prefer 18+) Play-time. There's really only one rule: Never, and I mean ever for any reason, kill someone who is on the teamspeak server with you, at any time. Unless of course it's by accident and you can apologize and/or help that player require his gear by either A) watching over his body or B) helping him reacquire gear in the case of his body disappearing. Things like that. I'm really only asking for cool individuals, doesn't matter where you're from, europe, america, etc etc, to come on, and hang out. If you don't have a clan to goto, or a teamspeak server you play on, then feel free to use ours and get to know the other people who play. Currently a lot of people are european and play at off-peak hours that most americans are used to, so I'm doing this to try and muster up a little bit of a crowd and some new faces to see every day on teamspeak. Like I said, you're free to use it, and as long as you clear it with a staff member, you're free to invite friends to it. As long as it's within reason, and they meet the maturity level requirement, and can follow the golden rule I stated. Once I see more people coming onto the teamspeak, me, and the others can decide what we'll do about forming SERIOUS, committed DayZ squads who will not only loot the high-risk areas, and hit other PK'ers where it hurts, but also form units to patrol for vehicles/camps, etc. Like I said earlier. So with all that said, I'll give you my steam id if you have any questions. Steam: Kevin51501 TS Server: 89.32.146.237:10017 Again, this goes out to all level headed mature DayZ players who want to get a little bit more seriousness out of their game. It may take a while to gather some attention, but I can only hope we'll get more people in here and working together as the game progresses through alpha and becomes a polished piece.

You do realize what this is going to do to this game right? People like me who like collecting shit guns cars etc are going to have nothing to do. SO what I'm going to do is what every other(hate to say this) CoD boy does. I'm going to grab me a cco and ruin noobs lifes. What else is there to do in this game? Also the people who say they can't find vehicles arent looking at the right places. I've found multiple vehicles from different servers in the SAME spot. Think of it this way. You guys are telling me you wont take another vehicle if you saw it? No one in their right mind is going to leave a vehicle there for another person. Stop lying to your self. -
Are we HSZ members really that much of a threat to you? One of us has already been falsely banned, if he can't appeal it I'll be buying him a new copy of ArmA, but now you want to call us scripters? Man we get a lot of hate off the people we screw over, lol. Don't hate, we're all legit. We're constantly running all over, I myself just came across 5 different vehicles, it's not hard to find them with the way Dayz has it's graphic limitations set up. Shit all you have to do is be so far away so grass and such doesn't show up and then look around, everything sticks out plan as day. If we found you and screwed you over don't get butt hurt. I've lost top tier shit multiple times, you don't see me raging on the forums about scripters and hackers.

- Everything involving in-game communication is dependent on the channel you select. Use the ',' and '.' keys to switch back and forth. Directional allows only people around you to hear you, Side and Global will allow everyone you hear you. Don't be that person announcing your position to the entire world. - No one you meet is your friend. You may eventually come across someone who doesn't want to take away everything you love, but always presume that the man you meet is some sort of terrible, awful person. They usually are. With the recent 1.4 update, Humanity has been introduced. If your Humanity score drops too low, your character model is turned into a Bandit. You can pretty reliably determine these individuals as bad men. - The Makarov is a terrible gun, made for bad people. If you want to put a zombie or player down quickly, it's going to take headshots. Replace it as soon as humanly possible. The M1911 .45 pistol seems much more common now, fortunately. - Whenever possible, avoid traveling on pavement. Asphalt and similar surfaces cause significantly more noise and will quickly draw the attentions of undead friends. When in heavily infested areas, crouch walking will usually allow you to get around most of the Zombies, but beware your fellow man nonetheless. Not Your Friend - Zombies can't run indoors. Sprinting into a building will force them to walk and give you the time and room necessary to extradite yourself from a horde. Preferably you don't ever find yourself in this position, but when in a pinch it can save your life. - Ocean water does not currently dehydrate you. Drink that shit up. I usually carry two canteens with me, so I always have some spare water, just in case. Similarly, learn which inland cities have fountains that can be used for refilling. Ponds are another option, although they are more finicky than necessary, currently. - Learn what buildings offer what kind of loot tables. Barns will provide things like shotguns and hunting rifles, while a military hangar will offer up military grade hardware. Garages and warehouses will usually have car repair items and garbage. Remember that the nicer and rarer your equipment, the bigger of a target you will be. - Don't deathmatch. Randomly killing players makes you a huge dick. Don't be that guy. - The continuous sound of flies signals there is a player nearby. If you haven't heard gunshots in sometime, quickly locate, loot, and move on. If you HAVE heard gunfire, it's usually better to stay away and hidden for a time, observing. Keep in mind, the assailant may have had a suppressed weapon, although it's fairly unlikely. - It is usually better to avoid players than to engage them. The amount of times I have simply sat in a bush, listening to folks talking as they walked past me is innumerable. People are oblivious if you use common sense. Similarly, if you are being hunted by a player, if you can find your way into a forest, put as much distance and trees between you two and find an area to drop to the ground. 9 times out of 10, they will run right past you. From there, you are in the position of power. - On a similar note, traveling through forests is much safer than roads. Zeds don't spawn out there, and as long as you can navigate reliably (You do have a map and compass, don't you?), you're golden. You'll still need to visit civilization for supplies, but otherwise you’ll be fine. Very probably still not your friend! - Blood transfusions can only be administered by other players. Bring your own friends. Otherwise, you'll need to find wild animals, kill them, use a Hunting Knife to Skin them, a Box of Matches to start a fire, and cook the meat. Each piece will give you 800 blood. - Use the 1866 Winchester. Seriously, it is the best gun in the game. It's common enough to find without a lot of effort, the ammo is common and plentiful, and it uses two different varieties. Slugs are great up to 200 meters and pellets will allow you to easily clear out aggressive Zed. Each inventory slot of ammunition holds 15 rounds, too! - Vehicles are repaired piece by piece. Engine Parts will fix the engine, Fuel Parts will fix the Fuel Tank. Depending on the sort of vehicle, you'll need anywhere from 2 to 4 tires, and full Jerry Cans will replenish the fuel proportionately. They'll fill a motorcycle fuel tank much more a Blackhawk, obviously. - Different sorts of Zombies drop different loot. Civilians might drop food, drink, or garbage. Soldiers might drop ammunition! - Due to the Day/Night cycle operating in real time on a local basis, you should always be able to find a server that is Day (or Night, if you're a masochistic asshole). Feel free to leave any questions in the comments below! I'll be happy to answer any you may have. Otherwise, please browse the DayZ forums here.

Game gets dull after fully geared (suggestions for Arma 3)
Jaleno replied to Torothin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would love to see some AI controlled areas that are EXTREMELY hard to infiltrate as an "endgame" sort of feature. Not just able to be sniped from afar and farmed for loot, but something that would need a team of players to assault. I understand that the game is a sandbox, but this would keep the spirit of the mod. It does get a little boring for me when I have had a camp and a few vehicles for a week or so.. Just my two cents. -
I died, obviously - crashing into a tree as per. Literally though, so much fun driving it - just found it in a field, discovered it worked and drove it all the way to the NW Airfield! Looted two barracks, attempted to drive it down to Pogorevka to the fuel pump but alas, twas not meant to be. Anyone else find driving vehicles in this ridiculously fun? :D

Reasons I kill people: - Not being killed by the other guy - Fun/Challenge :D - Vehicles - His weapon or maybe Mags for it - NVG / GPS / Rangefinder - Backpack (If better) Other than that I don't give a fuck about his stuff and what I am looking for is most likely what he is carrying even if tents were way more common. Anything else can easily be found so why would I kill for that ?
-
I think the problem with this is that arma 2 currently has a system where different items take up different slots. Like ammo and food are considered general usage items (same with car parts and utility items I believe) But weapons take up a different kind of slot ina vehicle. I think vehicles have something like 8 weapon slots and 50 general slots or something to that regard which cannot be expressed easily in a system like the OPs

Tent and Vehicle Storage - How not to glitch?
skillet (DayZ) replied to skillet (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The tent and vehicle gear storage is a great idea but isn't reliable enough right now. If anyone else has tips or tricks on how to keep items in their vehicles, post it. Hey, more stuff to steal :). I haven't had a chance to test mavericks tent theory.
