Not a thread for discussion; simply a place for me to organize my contributions and link to in the future. Thread: Player Identification and Classification System Summary: A system allowing players to identify and categorize other players based on actual visual proximity. Why: Unlike the bandit skin, this system gives power and responsibility to the players instead of the game engine. Players must make their own visual identifications, and can make their own judgements about player behaviors. A more immersive and authentic solution. Thread: A Simple Solution to Loot Farming via Server Hops Summary: Prevent loot farming by suppressing the ability of players to pick up loot after leaving one server and quickly joining another. Why: Loot farming encourages server swapping which creates a lot of "blink in-blink out" experiences. This creates a lack of player persistence on a server, and drastically undermines tactical game play. Thread: Let Players Synchronize GPS Summary: Allow players to synchronize GPS units and share locations. Why: A simple way for teams to stay organized if they are able to successfully acquire and keep GPS units. Interesting PvP side mechanics for "stolen" units. Thread: Squad Identification Summary: Let us wear hats, arm bands or backpack badges to identify squad mates. Why: Self explanatory! Prevent Spawn Point "Choosing" by Suicide Summary: Bind players to a single spawn point until they reach 60 minutes of continuous survival time. Why: Prevent players from artificially "choosing" a spawn point by killing themselves over and over. Improves immersion and accuracy of death statistics which will be skewed by the new "extended suicides" which will appear in 1.7.2.4. Thread: Boat Hitches Summary: Let us hitch boats and other water craft to land-based vehicles (other fun but less imporant vehicle suggestions). Why: Boats are dead weight in the game as-is. Impossibly slow and impossible to hide. If we could take them out of the water and stash them somewhere, their utility increases dramatically. Thread: Infected dogs Summary: Infected dogs with variant behavior. Why: Increase enemy variety, atmosphere, and downright awesome factor.

Gear suggestions, and Omega Man single player?
hacksaw (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Suggestions (gear and otherwise), sorry if any of these have been mentioned before 1) camp stove, less visible fire, but takes longer to cook meat (i.e. less visible at night, but you have to sit still longer) 2) shelter tent, so if you're in the rain or it's nighttime you can find someplace to get your temp up if you want to hide in the woods 3) use empty tin cans to drink water, but can't carry the water with you 4) sleeping bag, 5 minutes rest gives you 1000 blood back, but you are immobile and screen is black while you are sleeping, only gunfire or other party members (if there) can wake you up if they need to before 5 minutes is up 5) zombies can go after livestock if they are detected (maybe even slowly gravitate towards them like they do survivors). Maybe if the zombie gets close it attacks, animal could have a chance to kick (and kill) the zombie, and zombie could infect or kill the animal if the animal takes a certain amount of damage. Finding untainted meat might be harder. 6) single player mod - yeah, i know, not rocket's intent, but I think if you nerfed drop rates on military gear, NVG's etc., maybe had a repairable helicopter in Berizino, but you had to get parts from most of the major cities, etc. to escape that could be kind of an intense Omega Man type scenario, hopefully without a lot of work. Would still be challenging since nobody would be there to help you if went unconscious, give blood transfusions, etc., especially with random locations for stuff to fix boat so actually had to scour a city. Vehicles used could break and need repair easier so you couldn't just drive around to get everything (maybe some kind of road block in front of cities so you have to go on foot?). -
I think the amount of vehicles is good at the moment maybe there should be a few more military vehicles because there are allot of bases. Also you need to check the vehicles on the road there are allot of them that don't work so those are also in the amount of vehicles on the map. Adding those to the actually drivable vehicles you get a fair amount of vehicles.

Same happends on my server, tents and vehicles are loosing gear randomly or disappear completly. Suxx, but i cant do anything about it.

This is one of the better vehicle suggestions. Tanks with extremely rare parts, radars, and guidance systems requiring advanced training to operate and repair: no Civillian vehicles that you not only would find in the region and have a chance to repair, but might know how to drive: yes

Multiple Characters Possible! Enter Non-HIVE Servers.
rinaun replied to rinaun's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll be changing the header soon to reflect my server and instructing people to play on my servers if they want multiple characters or to simply have fun with friends on something secure. I'm going to wait a bit and see if I can get a definitive answer before I do but it's really getting unplayable. Every user whom hacks that joins my HIVE network pretty much gets banned right off the bat; only two issues left to solve (working on it). My users enjoy having more than the meager amount of vehicles spawned in Official. Aside from that they all tell me don't touch shit and just make sure vehicles and especially bikes are more prevalent. Not TOO many, but enough that at least each town has a vehicle or two hidden. -
I'm sorry, but you can't just stamp "It's realistic/unrealistic" on your suggestion and it automatically gets approved. If you don't want people to take your car, find a better hiding spot for it, that or recruit people for your group so that it can have more surveillance and thus be less likely to be stolen. In short, it isn't Rocket's job to safeguard your vehicles, it's your job. (( Also, how does a key system solve people who'll just shoot-up the car since they can't steal it? ))

I have been using R4ZOR restart script, and when I have it set to a scheduled windows task it gives me an error. If I run it off the desktop though it works fine. Anyone have some input into this? Also, side note when the server restarts from scripts sometimes vehicles and tents do not load and I have to do a manual restart whats the insight into this? Thanks for the help

I think the real reason why everybody is tantalizing OP (including myself) is because everyone has lost a lot of valuable loot and/or vehicles in the game. It's still in Alpha. He's raging. You're raging. I've raged. We've all raged. That's why this game is great: it forces emotion because of the high stress situations. It is, literally, the perfect video game. Of course, there are bugs, exploits and hacks going around, but everybody knows about them. In the future, we will have the perfect community and a flawless (or near flawless) game. As of now, just get used to the feelings this game instills when you're playing this and just remember not to freak out or get pissed off over losing stuff. When the game is finished and officially released, you'll be part of an elite group of people that will trample newfags that will be like "ZOMG HE KILLD MEH FO NO RAISIN. WHAT ZE FOOK?" TL;DR - Relax. You'll lose everything eventually, especially when the game is officially done. (Notice my use of the term "game" instead of "mod")

UK guy looking for anyone!
{MILKMAN}Razor replied to klydefrog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hey i'm from the UK running on time GMT +1. I have been playing for a couple of weeks on a different account and have only recently got it running on my laptop so i will be a completely fresh spawn, although i do know the basics of the map, locations of weapons, ammo, equipment, vehicles, parts, etc. I have also been finding it hard to survive alone because people just shoot you on sight even if you are friendly, but if you're in a group you can survive a lot easier. I would love to team up with you and a few others who post in this thread :) I may be able to play tonight (9th July 2012) so message me if you can as well :D *EDIT* I also do have skype, so if you have it as well, include it in the message you send me :P -
LU64 banning people for vehicle hoarding
Gosha replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
who said we were butthurt? he destroyed the vehicles he didnt want and took the others and then he banned us. he stole the cars which doesnt matter, you win some you loose but cant do either when your banned. -
Unless they are driving obviously hacked in vehicles (tanks, apaches ect) I don't think it is right to kick anyone unless you have found proof in the script.log file of the vehicles being created.

Now i know some, a lot of or all of these might of been said already. About Tents Tents - The equipment they hold are probably very important for the most part - Spare weapons, medical supplies etc... but to me, these are very unreliable and not worth the hassle they bring at this moment in time and i would much rather keep my supplies in my vehicle(s). I Suggest changing the inventory of the tent & Vehicle storage from the current: (If this is correct?) From: To something like: 100 Item slots with an indicator like backpack space (With everything taking from 10slots, 6slots, 4slots, 3slots etc.) in my personal opinion that would be much easier... no?. But with that being said, Is only the smallest part of the annoyance with tents. They are unreliable! from my experience and many of my friends who play this game - and also reading the forums it seems :) But with all that being said, I wont dive much deeper into tents as they are (Hopefully) being looked at already so i have no need to restate what many others have said. Vehicles These seem like an endangered species ! A lot of what i see on the forums are posts about are vehicles, vehicles & vehicles! Be that they are kept off map (Has been sorted if i read that post correctly) They are kept for storage purposes only (Like i do - but i actually drive around picking friends up and its used whenever i am on) The re spawn time is way to long! So here are my suggestions. 1. Change the re spawn time for destroyed vehicles to: 1.a: Sometime between 1-3hours later in an random location (This may increase server load/stress ?) but with the 6hour restart that shouldn't be too much of a problem? Also the next patch is a "huge" performance increase 1.b: Change the re spawn timer for "unused vehicles" to a minimum of 1day and max of 5days! depending on whats the current status of the player - 1.b.1: If the player died - 1 day if he has not reclaimed his vehicle 1.b.2: Just not connected - 5 days (Might have work, lost internet etc.) 1.b.3: Logged in (Whatever server) and has not used the vehicle - 3 days ? Something like that might increase the actual sight of a vehicle? also this brings me to my next point. Vehicle Storage People tend to use vehicles as storage but don't actually use the vehicle itself to get around the map - i few of my friends do this, a load of people on the forum do this as well as far as i can tell - and i assume this is because - tents are unreliable & vehicles are mobile storage. So i suggest either - Remove storage of vehicles! (I would not like this) Or seriously nerf the storage of vehicles! to like 10, 15 or 20 Item slots? (1 Main weapon, A few ammo - A few food & Drink) this one i personally think would increase the sightings of vehicles quite a lot. In my whole time playing this mod (probably just over a month now quite solidly) - On any server i join (Mainly UK ones) sometimes Seattle servers and now my clan server - I see on average a whole 1 vehicle a week being driven around... Such a bore ---------------- Just my opinion & Suggestions on the vehicle & storage situation.

Thanks for reply, so I have to search more on the other server to find some vehicles. *smile*

Did you lose your vehicle? D'aww. How sad. I think we should start a charity for your loss. The Ural Recovery Fund. Or, you could pick yourself up, hide your vehicles better, and move on. Had 5 vehicles at one point hidden on map, and they were never found.

US327 kicking non clan members
Vladivar replied to NobleWhale's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Omg aren't you being a lil dense here :D ? Of course I'll play on some other server. And of course I'll report this server as it's clearly breaking the rules set for hosters. Admins have no right to kick anybody to restrict access to their server. Why? Stop being dense and come up with few reasons yourself :D . if i was paying for a server. i think i should be able to do whatever the fuck i want with it. you should be thanking every admin that is hosting/renting a server for you poor bastards to play on. the fact that you can't password protect the servers is complete garbage. whine all you want about locked servers giving "clans" an unfair advantage. locked servers would keep the hax out' date=' which is a bigger issue that's destroying the community. [/quote'] Here's hoping that you're never in a position to admin a server, never mind host one. No, individuals/clans/communities should not have their own private servers connected to the hive. The reasons for this are pretty easy to understand for anyone who cares to engage their brain. Locked servers facilitate unimpeded loot-farming and vehicle hording. This in turn allows the host to transport huge amounts of loot, that they otherwise would'nt have had, into other servers, as well as the ability of ghosting with vehicles. The rules are clear, hosting a server is a donation to the project and development of the mod/game. If you want a locked server, develop your own mod. -
Post your best and/or worst experiences

Hmm.... Well, Yesterday, A few pals and I decided to take our V3S Up to Berezino/NEAF to look for a vehicle.... Well, we here we are in Krasnostav and I'm driving the Truck down the road. I barely touch the side of the truck to a light post on the side of the road, and the game decides to say "Fuck you!" and Makes the truck Slide Upward, yes, Upward the lightpost and then glitch out and land on the ground on it's side. So here we are in the most north-eastern part of the map, with our Camp, where our other vehicle is located, about 8-9km away. So We decided to split up into groups, one of the guys decided to trek it back to our camp, grab our other vehicle, and try and push the tipped truck back up rightside. Meanwhile, me and another bud decided to hit up the NEAF and Black Lake looking for a vehicle we could use. Not much luck except for finding a tractor, which was heavily damaged. Our Buds got the great Idea to use the damaged tractor to flip the truck back over, Not the greatest idea. One of our guys gave the truck two good slams, and the tractor killed our bud in the tractor. So in the end, we waited for out other bud to get the vehicle from out camp up to where we were and try and flip the truck back over with that. Well, He got pretty far. He pushed the truck up against a roadblock and tried to flip it over on that. Well, after about 10-15 minutes of pushed, he got the truck glitched into the roadblock, and gave it one more push. The game decided to say "Fuck you!" again and as he pushed the truck into the roadblock, the truck went Flying, yes, FLYING into the air, landed back down, and lifted off again. We never saw that truck again. It was disappointing for us, but amusing at the same time. Later, I had the great Idea of Shooting a Zombie with my M107 in the middle of Krasnostav, and aggro'd about 10-ish zombies, got my blood down to about 5k, legs broken, in shock, and knocked out. Fun Stuff ^_^ Luckily, my buds got me patched up. Since that whole Idea went bust, our group decided to hike it to Elecktro and look for vehicles/Ammo there. We ran into, or at least we thought we ran into a group we met the night before who had a running bus, so we were planning on hi-jacking the bus and taking it back to our Camp. However, our recon in the city and snipers outside the city lost sight of them, last heading east on the Main road, most likely heading to Berezino. After these events, we decided to do a Cherno Run, seeing as how the server reset earlier today, and we lost all of our shit in the Tent (Even my AS50 >.<). It was fun stuff. We are still looking for a vehicle >.> -
If it really took them 3 minutes to get from Stary to Sol with 3 vehicles loaded up with that much cooked meat and spare tires after killing a guy upon logging in and they had truly never been on your server before? Yeah...they would have hacked. But that is assuming all of the above is actually true. There is no possible way for them to have done all of that work in 3 minutes time. But it IS possible they were on the server previously and you just didn't know of it. Ultimately the 3 minute timeline just doesn't seem likely since it would take them longer than that to drive that distance even at full speed.

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
zorkmid replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree. This game is still to easy to survive. Especially once established in a group with tents and vehicles everywhere. -
Suspicious to some degree indeed. But why would you use "21 Cooked steaks" as something that made you suspicious? That's only about 3 cows worth of meat. Also if you suspected that their vehicles were hacked in, in perfect condition, why would they have 11 spare wheels on them? It should also be added that it's not "right", to kick them, only to go steal their vehicles. You have minor reasons at best to suspect them for anything, and proof for nothing, if you suspected that they hacked it in then you should have checked logs for suspicious activities. As for you wanting opinions for if it's "possible" that they hacked it in or similar, then yes, it's possible, just like it's technically possible that anyone you see carrying a weapon may have gotten it in an illegal way. Or it's possible that they've had vehicles for ages, fixed them up, and then you kicked them and stole it all because you felt it was "suspicious".

On the server I play on Hackers are really common. Always finding guns which aren't in the game from other players' date=' or finding hacked vehicles driving/flying around. Even this one time bombs and planes were falling from the sky to blow everyone up -_- [hr'] Logged in and the M107 was gone but I still have the NVGs. And I still have the ammo for the M107 wtf lmao.
-
So you hid the vehicles off the map? If so that's an exploit that would earn you a ban on most servers... If I as an admin can play and hide vehicles within the constraints of the map, then so can everyone who joins my server! Which isn't fr10 before you ask..

This is the "Cody" that killed this exploiter/hacker 3 times. Wiick and I spent hours lugging car parts together all the way up to the Ural spawn. Wiick reported that a UAZ was flying north towards the Ural I had JUST finished repairing. Upon hearing this, I took a position along the road to ambush him. While he was busy getting gear out of his UAZ I engaged with my Silenced MP5. He stopped in front of the UAZ for a period of time before trying to recover and fight back. Whatever exploit/hack this PashTeT was using wasn't enough to give him a brain and I put him down. Shortly after trying to make sure my surroundings were secure I noticed another hostile near the front of the UAZ. I lost line of sight on the survivor and he mowed down Wiick who was coming up the road to reinforce me. As I reclaimed visual on subject and put him down the chat box displayed that PashTeT had died again. Thinking it a bug and shrugging it off I went to marvel at the collection of vehicles that had quite literally fallen into my lap only to be torn away from the scene by Wiick telling me he had 1000 blood. I went to his side and applied all the necessary medical treatment, however, I was without an Epi-pen and he would have to wait out the duration unconscious. Turning around I saw the same guy with the same damn 240 looking to avenge his pathetic defeats. After killing him again I finally pinpointed that he was respawning with that same gear loadout in front of the UAZ and moved in to try to stop this madness. After landing two definite shots I was gunned down by the spray of rounds he poured out of his MG. In conclusion, this player was somehow respawning at some save-state of his character and it seemed to be a server wide effect because I found that when I went to respawn it spawned my character where I died, unconscious. Had this been legitimate I would have been awed by the timing and balls he showed. Unfortunately, the fact that the guy zoomed right in as the Ural was in working condition and respawned multiple times with the same gear loadout clearly tells that he was hacking/exploiting. My friend and I put hours into that Ural and even more time on the high-tier gear we had obtained and scavenged for, everything we worked for was on the Ural and now all of it is lost. If something could be done about this PashTeT, I would highly appreciate the effort, knowing that as I rebuild from NOTHING this great community could suffer one less hacker. Thanks for this amazing game and all the work you've put into it. -Cody

Can they see my vehicle on the map?
Tex Willer replied to Remix (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah in another post i read that once you reconnect you are able to see all map markers regardless of the channel they were placed in. Don't think that applies to vehicles and players. -
I love it when people suggest changes to the game design and give hackers as their reason. Like how about we just fix the hacks instead, Sherlock? Vehicles are fine. Hide them well, protect them, but you shouldn't be able to keep them forever just because you really, really want to.
