    Progress NOT saved

Date/Time: 10 July 8:00 PM / 11 July 11:00 AM (WST) What happened: None of my progress saved, even the server rolled back and my tents and vehicles moved back to my old hideout. What you were doing: You name it. Looting NE Airfield, towns near the NE Airfield, Torturing survivors, moving my tents to a lesser known location, fixed up a vehicle etc. Current Version Installed: 1.7.2 Server you were on: ANZ #5 Timeline of events before error: Listed in "What you were doing?" Timeline of events after error: I logged in, my tents were gone. I had this happen yesterday, so I assumed they were back in my very old hideout. I went to it and sure enough they were there. I picked up my equipment and moved it all to my new location then decided to switch my gear to a new server as I thought it was just that server. Placed my gear on the new server and then went offline for a bit. Came back on and my tents were completely empty. I had logged out for 2 mins in the middle of nowhere, it's extremely unlikely that somebody looted it.

    This is getting old!!!!

I fuckin lol'd. :P Honestly though, I feel your frustration. I lost 3 vehicles so far due to server restarts/roll-backs. And to the wanker that said "alpha": gtfo.

Going far up north, whats the point?

I haven't been back down to cherno or elektro in about 5 days. I have no reason to. No need to have some new guy with a revolver log back in behind me while I'm looting the stores to get a shot in the back. I'd rather see my enemies from a ways off and figure out whether to engage or not to. Plus camp is up there, good players are roaming from west to east and a little south but as easily avoidable if you want to. Plus, the REAL tactical firefights happen there. I'm not talking about free for all deathmatch in the main cities or the snipers who sit on the northern hill of cherno in the woodline with 50s picking off weaklings or the snipers who sit on the road up from the power plant in elektro shooting down into the firehouse and supermarkets from 500m off. Got better things to do. Camps to find. Tents to rob. Vehicles to find and steal, and missions to the airfields with my group to strip the barracks clean for the loot that only spawns there. And more helicopter crash sites spawn up north,

    Hiding Vehicles?

how about telling us the location of your vehicles

    Hiding Vehicles?

In this thread, I am looking for the locations that you have found a stash of hidden (Clan) vehicles, you dont have to say the server just where you found them, the hopes of this is for Clans who stash all the vehicles on a map will have their location revealed and maybe make them think and move said vehicles around, giving other players the chance to see them driving and try to steal them :P , I will get it started, i found a bike, ute and an atv on the hills near Petrovka and a found multiple boats stored on the outer side of the chain of islands at otmel.
  6. All of my vehicles are gone too! :( (URAL, V3S, OFF-ROAD, 3 BIKES, ATV AND ALL MY 25 TENTS!!!)
  7. Thing is, once you get gear there is really nothing else to do in game besides kill other players. Once you get the items to hunt animals and get some canteens, it's impossible to die from hunger or thirst. After you go through the barracks a few times and hit up some heli crashes, there is nothing left to upgrade. There is zero reason to go into any city for upgrades. You might have to go into a city every once in a while looking for vehicle parts but that's about it. This just leads to roving bands of people looking to kill other players for sport. Be it finding other bandits to kill or just survivors looking for gear. Even if you die, you and your buddies have a camp set up with multiples of everything. All you need to do on character creation is just head to camp to re-gear. There is zero replayability in the game unless you go hunting for other people. I'm not going to lie and say that I kill other people to upgrade gear or to play the part of a "real bandit" because that's not the case. I'm sure there are some on this forum that will say that the end-game is not a deathmatch (though that is not a real applicable term when comparing it to real deathmatch modes in games like Quake). However, there is a lot more thrill and adrenaline when killing others (not the newbie spawns on the beach) in this game as you have the potential to lose everything. The heart beats faster and it really is more exciting than another war-based FPS. There are videos that Sacriel42 does on youtube that really display this feeling. Tracking a couple people for 20 minutes hoping to kill them while constantly worrying about getting outflanked or other people attracted by the sound of gunfire. Sure, it sucks for people on their first few survivor characters (and it sucked when I first started playing), but if you punish or remove this gameplay aspect, you'll lose a large playerbase. The thing is, this is the gameplay that everyone will reach at some point in time. By removing it or punishing it, you are essentially limiting everyone to a few playthroughs at most. Also, if it's removed, you will have less (or no) people inhibiting your ability to get to "end-game" thus compounding the problem. TL;DR: In the current state of the game, you cannot remove the PVP or even limit it. If you want to tone it down some, then you need to replace it with something else to do once you have the gear and vehicles.

Where exactly does the map end?

http://dayzmap.info/ doesn't show the whole map, there's quite a bit more than it shows. You'll notice when you're at the end of the map, the landscape will be lacking flora and it will seem all deserted and copy-pasted in terms of graphics. You'll spot it. If you're thinking of putting a camp outside the map, I'd advise you not to (not implying you are, but still) Wipes are made every now and then outside the map, meaning tents and vehicles outside map border will get removed.
  9. First off I don't ask because I want to build a stash outside the map, but.. where is particular the border when I don't want vehicles or tents to be removed. I'm just curious of what http://dayzmap.info/ shows me. Ingame map is larger than the printed map. Maybe the reason is that there are no POI's outside. Oh and forum search failed me.. it doesn't accept words with less than 4 letters..

Going far up north, whats the point?

I go, and have stayed up north because it easier to survive. As you said in the OP, there is a ton of empty space, and empty space means there are next to no players. Im on Day 20 now with my character, started with looting the military tents in Cherno and then going straight north. Im pretty much now fully kitted after having done numerous raids on stary and both northern airfields with friends, but I would say about 60% of my gear has come from other peoples tents. Yes Tents!!! You wana go raid some tents? Go North. If you strike lucky, you will find a ton of top grade gear. Raiding tents, vehicles, starry and the airfields every now and then gets my adrenaline fix as of when I need it. I don't put myself in danger unless it's absolutely necessary. Hunting the animals for meat and stopping off at watering holes/ lakes gets me by easily.
  11. If a troll knew you couldn't do anything about him when you're both playing survivors, he could ruin your gaming experience far more than simply shooting you. Loot your tents and take your vehicles with immunity. Make a lot of noise and keep pulling zombies onto you, eventually getting you killed. A few could stand in the doorways of a building you're in and keep you and your friends trapped. Run up to you and empty your backpack into theirs. A team of bandits could use a "survivor" buddy to stay with you and track your movements. Think you're creeping thru the woods? Not when you have some random troll following you around standing up and making noise. There are a hundred ways someone with immunity to you could make your game experience more miserable than simply shooting you.
  12. YES for every major patch (1.8.0, 1.9.0, etc) including world items (vehicles, tents, wire fence, etc)

Vehicles disappear after not driving them within a certain time. Not sure if 1.7.2 just rollbacked vehicle spawns.

    Career skill sets

After reading some of the other threads, it is appearant that we are all pros at everything. Need to fix a car? I got it. Need a Doctor? Sure, I can do that, too. Oh! Look a helicopter! Yea, I pilot on the weekends... Suggestion: It can be randomly given or an option to choose(preferably an option as you do choose what career you have in life --and people will just spawn/die until they get what they want), but have a list of careers to choose from that would make since in a survival situation (aka your job before the world went to crap). All skills can be obtained over time/practice, but until skills are honed, the effects are limited or in some cases not available. Only one skill can be mastered, the rest could earn up to the expert level. average>skilled>expert>master --Just an example. Depending on what career you choose depends on how long it takes you to level up an opposing skill or may even disable other skills. (Doctor studies medicine, no way hes got a straight shot; or Chef cooks a mean meal, but can fix a car to save his life --no pun intended) Example: Chef- Cooked food heals more. Takes longer to become hungry. Cooks food fast. Has no chance of burning food. Vs. Average Joe- Will get hungry faster. Takes much longer to cook. Cooking food has a chance to burn. Over time, can get better at cooking, but can't become master. So, there is always a chance to burn food. NOTE: In this case, a system where the grade of food matters should be added and all canned foods should be heated before consumption. can of pasta(average), burnt meat(poor), cooked meat(excellent). Careers: Chef - Cooked food heals more. Takes longer to become hungry. Cooks food fast. Has no chance of burning food. Enables the ability to gut animals. Doctor - Can apply bandages faster. Enables the ability to give blood transfusions. Mechanic - Can repair vehicles faster. Enables the ability to repair engine and rotor (and fuel tank?). --everyone can replace a tire or put gas in a car Soldier(or Cop) - Can shoot farther and more accurate with any weapon. Also, more accurate when recovering from running. Reloads faster. Enables the ability to use the high end weapons at start. --Other professions require expert to equip say a M16, skilled to use a shotgun. Pilot - Enables the ability to fly. Longer to become thirsty(Years of flying has taught you to conserve drinking as to not urinate as much). Less fuel consumption while flying. --Pilots take quickest path and smoother turns while flying, those little extras save gas. NOTE: Some tasks are fine as is, so some of them would need to take longer as to provide a balanced benefit. Others currently take forever and would need to be faster as the skill increases. (Ex: Cooking speed is fine currently(I say expert level), increase the time so that the Chef career becomes desirable. Bandaging takes forever(average), reduce the time as this skill increases making the Doctor career more desirable. ETC.) Summary: This would promote teamwork as one skilled profession would rely on the skills of another. Also, would give players something to work at other than the current search and destroy (scavenging and killing). What do you guys think? Any other jobs need to make the list? Or perhaps an adjustment to the current ones? Keep in mind that there needs to be a balance to each and that I tried to give each career an edge that no one else would have.
  15. dont park vehicles beside your tents. vehicles still tent to move after being parked. vehicles > tent everytime.

Going far up north, whats the point?

the north is where you find better players, heli crashes, player camps, more vehicles, more military loot spawns. its also a good area to setup a camp.
  17. Hey guys! So I was watching some DayZ videos earlier today, and I felt the urge to begin writing a story of a survivor in DayZ. I took about an hour and a half to sit down, and begin loosely outlining the story and writing the first chapter. I'm going to post the first chapter here before I put any more work into it. I want to test out the reaction of the community before I decide to continue any further. If the community reaction is good, then there will be more chapters coming soon! Please note that this is a very rough draft, without ANY editing, and written right off the top of my head. If you find any errors or constructive criticism, feel free to leave it here! Hope you enjoy! Chapter I This is my story. The first thing I remember about those DayZ was pain. A lot of pain. I reached up and pressed my hand against my head, feeling dried blood just above my temple. The wound was clearly at least a day old, as the blood flaked off when I touched it, but it still hurt like hell. I remember looking around, trying to figure out where I was. I was on the shore, just a few hundred meters from a small town. I couldn't for the life of me remember how I had gotten here. What had happened to me? How had I gotten the wound on my head? The last thing I remembered was making dinner for Lily and myself. The news was on in the living room, something about an infectious outbreak of some new disease in Chernogorsk. Thankfully we lived in Berezino, far from Cherno, and the military would undoubtedly quarantine the whole area to contain the infection. I had to pull myself together though. I was in an unfamiliar area, with a head wound and memory loss. I had to find out where I was and try to get back home. I checked myself over for other wounds, but besides my head I was in perfect condition. I pulled my backpack off and began to rummage through it. All I had was a flashlight, some painkillers, and a medical bandage. Slinging my backpack over my shoulder again, I struck out toward the town, hoping to find someone to let me borrow their mobile phone. I could call Lily and have her take me to the hospital, and we could go from there. As I neared the town, I saw a road sign ahead of me and off to my left. I was in Komarovo, just west of Chernogorsk where the news had said the infectious outbreak was. I could see people in the street though, so obviously the infection had been confined to Cherno. I walked toward the nearest person and called out to them, waving my hand. Their head snapped toward me and I knew something was wrong. His face was covered in blood, and his skin was a sickly grey color. I felt numb with terror as the man charged toward me. I turned and ran as fast as I could into the woods nearby, hoping to shake him. I could hear his footsteps as he gave chase, all the while issuing bone chilling screams. Ahead of me I saw my chance to possibly lose him. The forest floor was thickly covered with brush, and I dove through it without hesitation, then changed direction and ran as fast as I could away from him. As I heard him crashing through the same brush I had just left, I decided to hide behind a particularly large tree. I was shaking with terror and adrenaline as I pressed my back up against the cool bark. I could hear him exit the brush, and hear his sounds of rage as he realized he had lost me. Finally, his footsteps receded into the distance as he headed back to Komarovo. I stealthily crept through the woods, following the man's trail. I had to know what the hell was going on. As I came to the edge of the forest, I dropped down and pressed myself as close to the ground as I could. I surveyed the small town for a good five minutes, noticing things that I hadn't before. The streets were littered with garbage and debris. Cars were demolished and burned. Windows on many of the houses were gone completely. And even more terrifying: the remnants of what looked to be a military quarantine. Military vehicles were spread throughout the town, but all were destroyed. The dead bodies of soldiers scattered the area. Could these people and the man who chased me be infected with whatever had hit Cherno? If so, what kind of disease could turn a person into what that man had become? No matter what the answers to my questions were, one thing was certain: I had to get into the town. My throat was parched; my tongue so dry that I couldn't bring up enough spit to wet it. My stomach growled at me as if to tell me that it too needed immediate attention. It was already getting dark, so I decided to wait for nightfall before I made my way in. Hopefully darkness would provide me with enough cover to get in and out without being seen. As the sun finally set below the horizon, I began my slow crawl from the woods to the town. Infected people were everywhere, and it was fairly easy to identify where they were in the dark. The infected made sounds like they were growling and choking on their own blood at the same time. Even so, I couldn't help but get goosebumps and start to shake whenever I heard that gargling noise right above my head. After about an hour, I was finally inside the town. I crawled from house to house, trying to find an open building. Finally, I found one, and I quickly snuck inside, closing the door softly behind me. Empty tin cans littered the floor inside the home. I searched from room to room, and was about to give up until something caught my eye in the dark: an axe. The edge shone softly in the muted light coming through the window. I picked it up and tested the edge with my thumb. It was still pretty sharp, and should serve me well in case I attracted the attention of any more infected. I found nothing else of any value inside the town, so I decided to leave, and begin my 200 kilometer trek back to Berezino. I moved quietly through the streets, crouching now instead of crawling since I had the axe to protect myself. My biggest obstacle was finding food and water. Dehydration would probably kill me before any of the infected could. Finally outside of the town, I noticed a gas station along the road to Cherno. I decided to check it out, hoping that I could find something to eat and drink. My efforts were rewarded with some Pepsi and can of beans. I popped open the Pepsi and gulped it down, wetting my dry mouth and immediately feeling better. The can of beans proved more difficult, and I ended up using my axe to cut open the top and scooped the beans through the hole with my fingers, eating every last bean. Feeling newly invigorated, I hefted my axe and started toward Cherno, the source of the infection, and my best chance for finding more supplies, and hopefully other people.

Desyncing - My server or hive?

My server is experiencing the same issue. Since 1.7.2 desync happens very often and for a long time. I didn't see this with 1.7.1.5 this frequent. Sometimes there is also a problem to connect to the server for some players, and the server often "disconnects" for a couple of seconds and doesn't save the items in tents, inventory and vehicles. Same thing happens sometimes to the player position. After logging out and logging in again, you spawn on the pos, where you have been 15 mins ago... It's definitely not the server itself, cause the other dedicated servers running on the same machine are ok. It's just the DayZ server.
  19. I honestly wish all characters, items, and vehicles got wiped with every major update that added/removed features. That way everyone has to work their way back up when, say, loot spawns change or an exploit is fixed. Also help re-enforce that we are here to TEST.

[HOW TO] Not Get Shot By A Player

Never trust anyone you're not on VOIP with. (Vent, TS etc.) 8/10 they're going to shoot on sight. Why? Not cause theyre a bandit but because either a. bandit or b. they're paranoid of bandits. Most of the time I avoid interaction and use the treeline to my advantage. Avoid hostile areas (Berezino, Cherno, Elektro, Balota, NW airfield) This is where bandits like to hangout due to the high player count and loot value. Also avoid where vehicles spawn, like black lake and other places. Grocery stores? Get in, get out. High output areas are going to have a higher chance of player interaction, be it friendly or hostile. Grab what you need and go, don't linger. Never run through open fields, take the treeline around...sure it takes longer. But itll take even longer to re-scavenge that supplies you're lugging around. Sniper? Run in zig zags. But keep the left/right pressing random so they cant time your movements. Use cover but dont stop...dont ever stop until youve either killed them or KNOW you're out of their LOS. Use buildings and vegetation to your advantage Dont trust people who ask you for painkillers or anything, as soon as you go to place it in their bag, expect a shot to the face. Instead drop it on the floor away from them so they cont shoot you PB in the face. Walk around behind them and drop them or around a building. If they turn towards you or follow you around the building...they're most likely out to kill you.
  21. If you don't think grouping up has benefits you are sorely mistaken. I believe you are seeing a significant number of high grade military weapons due to duping, being able to hop servers with the same gear, and people being bored (i.e. spent a week farming the NWAF and heli crash sites) because they play in a group (a huge group benefit). Playing in groups gets you gear. Enough gear gets you a vehicle. Vehicles get you more gear. Eventually people get tired of "surviving" and run down to the coast with their gear just to shoot people. Reducing the number of military grade weapons won't do anything to change that. If anything it will hurt solo play even more, because now, once a group starts to get their hands on some high grade gear, solo survivors will stand zero chance against them. Having one or two characters per server I believe would help the mod a lot more than making the game easier, and reducing the number of weapons. The game is supposed to be hard. You are supposed to always be on edge because you could get shot by a sniper at any given time from over 1000m away. It requires you to really think things through before you do anything. Failure to do so can result in death. I really hope DayZ takes nothing from MineZ. The game is supposed to be tough. It is supposed to suck when you start out with only the bare minimum of gear. That makes you think twice before you act. I wouldn't want anything implemented into the game that removed that aspect from it. That would completely destroy the game for me. You are by the way exaggerating. Every death is not from a sniper 500m away. Most of the time when I have to shoot, it is within 100m, in a city I shouldn't be in in the first place, and usually because I wasn't paying attention to what was going on around me enough to either avoid, or at least observe the survivor I stumble upon. But you got your wish, 1.7.2 wiped the ghille suits. So enjoy, nobody has one now. :)
  22. Been playing Dayz for almost a week, and having a blast. Been doing pretty well, but every time I start to get to good gear; I seem to find myself in a bandit sniper's crosshair. I need someone to watch my back, and would be happy to provide some overwatch for my mates. Ideally, a mature group that can get a good stash and vehicles with voicechat (vent preferably, TS3 is fine too). I'm on PST, but play alot during the late night, early morning. I am down to be a bandit, but I don't take joy in killing noobs for a laugh. If I come across non-threats, I usually just stay in cover, but I will kill without hesitation if I feel threatened. Anyways, I look forward to playing with some of you guys. Just hit me up with a server that your team plays on, and I'll find you. I play as Sgt. Slam
  23. Sgt.Racheloblade

Make this shit hard. Less supply loot.

Just for the server you play on, zombies will teleport, have wings and shoot laserbeams out thair arse, there wil be no vehicles and you have to drink and eat every 15 minutes. There will be no guns, and all you can use is a flashlight and a crowbar, and your inventory will only have room for 4 items (food, drink, tin can and flares). Hard enough for you?

    Survival guide

Considering we 'miraculously' already know how to fix and fly helicopters as well as give blood transfusions and fix all vehicles i dont think we need a book to tell us how to create splints or fur camo. Your system would work well though if we started out knowing nothing and had to learn stuff from scratch.
  25. New patch works decently for me not taking account loss of gear at tents+vehicles. Of course some extra zombie aggro has occured but nothing serious that good ol' hatchet couldnt resolve. And I noticed too that you can get rid of zombies more easily like running uphill with bushes towards treeline with 4 zombies running behind and when I go past tree line I notice only 1 zed following me :) Easy pickings for hatchet and I haven't broke my legs so often now lol
