PVP is what makes the game interesting and dynamic. Are you telling me your aspiration is to live in the woods hunt and drink from a lake after you have all the gear you can get. If for some reason they did disable a friendly fire mechanic.... I would just close doors on people or run them over with vehicles.

A few questions, thinking of buying this
Booker (DayZ) replied to thelonewarrior's topic in New Player Discussion
If you leave the game your items are saved, and you do re-enter in the location you logged off. Vehicles will stay on the server they were found on, there is no way to transfer them across servers. The character you play will always be saved unless you die, if you die you must start again. When you log off your character will not deteriorate in any way, shape or form. You will be as hungry/full as when you left and you health will be the same. There is nothing you need to unlock in this game, everything is found through searching different loot locations which are scattered across the map and categorised into different loot types, generally this means you will find weapons/ammo in military places, clothes etc in residential and car parts in industrial for example. The loot is randomly generated and it's up to luck to determine what you find. A word of advice would be, to never get attached to you gear but to make the most of that gear while you have it, because you will die during this game, you'll die a lot to countless different reasons. Also, this game is in it's alpha state, this means there will be bugs and you need to be aware that they will happen to you. Other than that, this game evokes a lot of emotion and really does immerse you into it instantly. You won't regret buying the game. HAVE FUN! EDIT; p.s never tell anybody you have beans. -
Not everyone is like that. Here's my story. I was in Elektro church, somewhat fresh spawn, only had a makarov (before they messed with starting gear). Two guys spotted me and asked if I was friendly. I was a total noob at this time and had no idea how to communicate. I screamed at my friend on teamspeak and asked him how to do so (he's played longer than me). He told me I could cycle through the channels with the '<' '>' keys. As I'm doing this and trying to type, I accidentally even fired a shot (not at them, my back was facing them) and typed a single letter 's'. Of course, they were like "wtf", lol. Eventually, I figured out how to really talk and we banded up, found vehicles, they showed me how to fix it, etc... It was a lot of fun. They told me that they were so close to killing me though especially after I fired the accidental shot, lol. But now, we've become permanent friends and I'm really grateful to them for teaching me a lot of things. Moral of the story, yes things like that is extremely rare. But, I think the select few experiences you have makes it all worth it, IMO. Of course, to each their own, this is just what I think.

1.7.2 Opinion thread. All your opinions, good and bad, go here.
rjack85 replied to Denuth's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My only suggestion is to tone down the zombie respawn time. Can't loot a heli or a deer stand without new zeds respawning. Also zombies see too far. As far as fixes well... -magazines still magically replenish after logout (not complaining lol) -animals stop moving when you get close to them most of the time -duping still works...there are giant tent cities and huge fortified areas on the NW edges of most servers. Take a look. free stuff for all. -Vehicles? what vehicles. They are still hidden away off map. Also there still isn't much to do once your outfitted and living off the land. Quess I'll have to become a murderer like everyone else. /shrug ...now back to your regularly scheduled program. -
[DZRS]Qauntum here, an admin of Dallas 3, While i was not ingame, but had rCon open i noticed people complaining that they had been teleported into the air and dropped. I checked through the logs for around that time, and found a not so subtle hacker. Server: Dallas 3 Time: Around 09:34 CDT (GMT-5) What happened: Multiple people (possibly the whole server) teleported into the air...some people said into an aircraft, then dropped) Logs also suggest he attempted to spawn multiple vehicles Hackers identity: Name: "Joe" GUID: 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 Relevant server logs: This happened multiple times, i found it from about 10 minutes before the attack 13.07.2012 09:34:49: Joe (108.67.153.118:2404) 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 - #42 private ["_dummy"]; _dummy = [_this,"players"] execVM "\ca\ui\scripts\dedicatedServerInterface.sqf"; 13.07.2012 09:34:49: Joe (108.67.153.118:2404) 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 - #45 private ["_dummy"]; _dummy = [_this,"players"] execVM "\ca\ui\scripts\dedicatedServerInterface.sqf"; 13.07.2012 09:34:49: Joe (108.67.153.118:2404) 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 - #42 private ["_dummy"]; _dummy = [_this,"onload"] execVM "\MyScripts\vehicle.sqf"; 13.07.2012 09:34:49: Joe (108.67.153.118:2404) 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 - #45 private ["_dummy"]; _dummy = [_this,"onload"] execVM "\MyScripts\vehicle.sqf"; This, a few seconds before people started talking about it in chat r_player_ 13.07.2012 09:34:56: Joe (108.67.153.118:2404) 48b3e52761280dbec36c92712ec68981 - #13 icopter" || _v iskindof "plane") then { _v setVehicleInit "[this] spawn BIS_Effects_AirDestruction"; 13.07.2012 09:34:56: NAME (IP) GUID - #NUMBER 1]; sleep 0.05; And this for each of the names of the players on the server, including Joe _v setVehicleInit format ["[this, %1, %2]spawn BIS_Effects_A 13.07.2012 09:34:56: NAME (IP) GUID - #NUMBER 1]; sleep 0.05; I redacted the info of the other users on the server and replaced it with "NAME (IP) GUID - #NUMBER" He calls ""\ca\ui\scripts\dedicatedServerInterface.sqf";" and "\MyScripts\vehicle.sqf";" again at 09:36:09 and 09:36:58. Then after that there is nothing out of the ordinary. As i say in the title, he has now been GUID banned from Dallas 3. I would advise other admins to be on the look out for him.

How 90% of Day Z live streamers play.
[email protected] replied to albinorhino's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
You sound bitter cuase noone watches your stream, the most popular guys on twitch.tv streaming dayz, are the ones having fun with vehicles, in groups pvping etc. And it's quite entertaining, actually it's about one of the most entertaining videogames to spectate, surely there will always be people streaming and watching pointless PKing of newly spawned players, but surely nothing worthy of a thread. -
Not sure if it has been mentioned yet: Since the update there has been a few vehicles duping items and some eating them. Whatever gear was on the vehicle before a server restart will be on it again after the server resets. We have tried dumping all the gear on the ground so it disappears, also tried going for a swim with the gear that was on it (to get rid of it), blown up the vehicles (they just respawn like if nothing had happened in the same spot). We just ended up dumping these vehicles on a corner of the map where it will be somewhat hard to find, we want to earn the gear we get.

To everyone that is a camper on Stary Sobor 24/7 with CZ
lev replied to barros1711's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You both started on the beach with no weapons. He ended up with a CZ on Stary hill. You ended up with a bullet in your head inside Stary. I'd say he was better. Also you claim that your entire squad/clan w/e is very well equipped. Why are you solo looting with a makarov? Why are you not looting as a team, clearing all dangerous areas and grabbing all the gear/loading them up in vehicles and driving/flying off? FYI, TF2 skills do not directly translate into Arma2 skills. Skills in Arma2 = strategy, tactics, leadership, teamwork, competence in marksmanship - fire discipline - landnav - communications discipline, etc. -
Vehicle Major Update Content/Goals
Taylor (DayZ) replied to zorisx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Vehicles should be a lot more common. It's not like the infected just started attacking every working vehicle. The Huey's should be replaced with the Mi17, like some suggested. -
Vehicle Major Update Content/Goals
[email protected] replied to zorisx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Would be nice to see some more military vehicles. Of course most would be OP, like every tracked vehicle with a turret, but the jeeps and utes with MG mounts would work. I'd like to see the unarmed APCs too. There should be a humvee considering all the humvee wrecks you see around. And of course, more civlian aircraft like the An2 and mi17. Planes would be interesting since they'd be so tough to use and hide (once off-map is fixed...). -
+1. Finding vehicles and tents must become harder :)

-Survivors- Starting a Small Group (Youtube)
Death88 replied to Flush Gun's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sup Flush Gun Name:Death88 Age:23 Skype:yangt88 Why you'd like to be in the six: Trying to find other players out there just trying to survive without having to kill each other. Having more friends on the DayZ servers makes it more exciting. Story:When I first started this game, there was nothing but player versus player no matter where you go. Unfortunately it is still player versus player. So my friends and I began roaming together to survive and we'd run constantly into other groups who shoot on sight. It'd be nice to just have a group of guys running through the map together gathering great gear, vehicles, and to just have fun without the use of bloodshed. Although I only have about a months worth of experience on the game, I have done pretty much everything and I can travel to just about anywhere with a map and compass. Hope you accept! Also I learned a few things in the military about tactics that might help out against bandits. Laters. -
After finally removing off-map camps(thanks god) it got pretty difficult to hide especially Trucks and other vehicles from other people. This sugestion is also an possible solution to fix the Problem of an clan with a helicopter finding now every vehicle on the map. Add an comourflag net, which can be used to hide vehicles better. This net is already implemented in arma2 and could be placed like a tent. This item should of cause be very rare and just in industrial buildings only. With this there could be also brought in military tents as tent, where you can store more stuff than in an normal one. I hope you like this idea and sry because of my bad English, it's not my first language.

No starter weapon removes survival instinct, and respect for zeds
Knautscher replied to breetai3's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This probably has been suggested before: You could get your starting gear at random: some get a crowbar, some a makarov with one clip and some get nothing (maybe even more variety). People, of course, would immediately start exploiting this (killing themselves till they got the makarov), so the better items should have a smaller chance of being in your starting gear and every death should add a penalty on your respawn counter. This is done in Project Reality for example: if you fuck up and act against your team's effort (includes dying, suicide, breaking vehicles etc. as they all = ticket loss) you get 15 or 30 or 45 or sth seconds stacked up on your respawn counter (depending on your actions) up to a maximum of 2 full minutes. Since they can already track what life counts as a "life" for the counter on the homepage (2 mins or more), they could also track how long someone has lived before they kill themselves. If they suicide and respawn in the first 30 Minutes of a life (or more or less, just an example) they get 2 minutes respawn time. Because this would be tracked via the Hive and player acc and not via the server they play on, server hopping would not help to prevent this and thus: You'd have to make the best out of what you got this time. Got a Makarov? Holy shit protect that motherfucker! Got nothing? Deal with it. But wait, wait, wait: That's some "gamey" penalty system you're trying to introduce here, Knautscher, wtf? Well, schizophrenic me, in this case it affects nothing ingame, it just keeps people from exploiting and it does so with no bonus or harm done to others. Everyone has the same chance to get okay starting gear and if you get worse gear, yeah the game's gonna be a little harder, but if you don't want a challenge why play DayZ at all? So, since this only affects the player outside of the game (respawn time) I think a penalty for exploit suicide is okay. Don't be a quitter just cos you didn't get the biggest slice. What do you think? -
Beware on US 346 - Clan members advocate DC & server hopping
Gruelius posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hey Guys, Just letting you know, if playing on US 346 (owned by B&N or BNN) the clan member Beast advocates DCing and server hopping for PVP. Background story: We found a car, looking for other cars and found the yellow hatchback, fixed it up cept for 1 wheel, i went off to get the wheel and on the way back realised car was gone, mate in the hilux was driving south and saw the hatchback so charged it and rammed it then started to drive away (not sure why), he didnt get out fast enough and got shot by Beast (which is fine). While Beast was looting our fallen kamikaze driver another group member got in range and engaged beast, he had just hopped in the car and he dc'ed, so our member quickly got in the hilux and drove off. I got in range of the area, as i was told we had killed the player or he had dced i was semi careful but i wanted to rush to get our stuff and the other car incase he came back. I was running to the forest line and got hit once by the DMR, so instead of DCING like beast would i just manned up, did diagonal running and almost made it (shot and killed by Beast) What he did was DC, server hop, med up, move, then reconnect. when speaking to him on TS he kept on saying we shouldnt be dicks, we shouldnt have tried to take his car he didnt want to die, there was nothing wrong with what he did we shouldnt be hoarding stuff e.t.c. He then tried to troll me saying my tears were delicious e.t.c. and i was mad ill admit. I know that the response to bandit lifestyle will be biased in the bandit forum but its still acceptable gameplay to try and get all vehicles you can. Another member Ben was more than polite, and i do appreciate that they as a group host a server. But just be careful, if you are on this server and they are on, be prepared to deal with people that DC, reposition on other servers then reconnect. tl;dr we wanted two cars, he cant hack dying so he dc's, repositions, comes back and kills me, doesnt understand problem with it, if you play on 346 be prepared to deal with such actions. tl;dr of tl;dr if you are a bandit and you see a b&N player disappear, run because they are repositioning on another server. -
Vehicles wasn't really the purpose of this thread, but making the game more about survival. Not just running from one place to the other....

Player Emails Admin After Vehicle is Stolen By Admin, LOL
savini replied to Gumpnstein's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery

Agree or Disagree? Why we kill...
Timberwolf (DayZ) replied to bbilbo1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I assume you must have some problems in living in society in real life since it's pillars are made of rules and laws created by other people as a standard and you must live by them or else you suffer the consequences. For a pedophile or a psychopath their actions are okay but that doesn't mean they are correct with such an assumption or that they don't have a mental problem. If I, for instance, decided to make my DayZ a racing game by using vehicles and making players race each other trough designated tracks would this make DayZ a racing game indeed? The fact that you can do it doesn't mean it is meant to be done. Regular ARMA 2. -
If DayZ was Real, how would you act?
[email protected] replied to Gareth_Sims (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Let's face it, if a zombie apocalypse were to happen, the government would "lock us up" in secure places away from the zombies and the army would deal with the infected themselves. They can fight off other armies with guns and vehicles, I think a zombie apocalypse would be a piece of cake for them. I'm sure if it were to happen not even 10% of the population would get infected. -
If DayZ was Real, how would you act?
Lukio (DayZ) replied to Gareth_Sims (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We'd shut down all windows, hang drapes from the inside. Set up candles, matches in every room, fill the bathtub with water as personal reservoir, make an itinerary of all food, protective clothing, items usable for personal defense, go to the parking, siphon all gas from the vehicles left over into jerry cans & scavenge all apartments for tools, provisions, weapons, devices and anything that will work for barricading. Next I'd prep a car for doing scavenging runs, maybe refit the windows with chipboard or something, tear out all unnecessary seats/ interior. Throw in additional empty jerry cans. From there on I'd make my way to gas stations, weapons/outdoor shops and the local small supermarket. I'd map all blocked routes/streets and later fortify those blockades to create a perimiter around my house. Furthermore I would try to aqcuire CB/communication equipment and as many how-to books as possible (How to weld, how to repair engines etc.) These would probably be my first steps into survival. Until I haven't secured our own apartment / house I would engage everyone else as possible threat. -
Here are the features I want to be in the "final" Day Z: - Car keys (you will find 2 keys in the car when it spawns and can use it as any item and the keys will look different for every vehicle type) - Car hacking tools (there will be a very rare item so you could hack any car, maybe divided into trunk-open and start-engine tools) - Housing / Bases (Any house can be taken from a player or a team to put their stuff in etc. / You maybe need to find locks or sth. / I think this is already an idea from Rocket so thumbsup for that) - Garages (basically the same idea as above; just for vehicles) - Experience (I am not so sure about this but I think it would increase gameplay if you could only use some items with a higher zombie kill count (or just xp by killing players, looting, running around); so you could use pistols just when you have killed 10 walkers; nightvision just with 200 or sth. like that) - Penalties (to avoid player killing I think it should be implemented some downsides on killing other players; the best in my mind is just to make it realistic so in real world if some idiot went around killing people the "normal" guys would team up and hunt him down so you gotta give us some tools to do that like radio and maybe some boards where you can put names or even pictures (with cameras you find in the game) of assholes that kill innocent people; big thumbs up for implementing radios as it is an idea of Rocket as well!!!) - Throwing stuff (I wanna be able to throw ammo to friends or hatchets at walkers etc. -- not too big an issue but it sure would be nice) - Hiding stuff (yeah just let us hide stuff anywhere and not just in tents -- maybe under special items like stones etc. (maybe 100 spots on the whole map or sth like that)) - Notes (would be nice if you could build signs or at least write notes and leave it anywhere you want) - Swarms (I think huge groups of walkers should walk around on the whole map; like 2-3 of them (up to 100) just randomly move everywhere; would help to not feel save anywhere; maybe drop some big items when killing the whole swarm) - Shops (Would be nice to have some sort of currency to buy / trade stuff from some A.I.) - Safe zones (like an army camp where if you shoot, AI shoots you back; not 100% imba though you could try to kill the AI with like 5 or 10 friends; maybe you could only spawn there to prevent spawn kills etc.; will be automatically set back to the nearest safe zone if you don't save in one) - Ships (random ships that appear on the water with a lot of loot would just be nice, I guess) - Selfmade skins (to team up you need some sort of special item or skin to wear; would be great if you could add some with photoshop! individulization is a big point if you wanna make that game successfull in my mind) - Remove the fucking beartraps!!! (jk insidejoke with #dayz on qnet) :D Maybe I will be having more ideas so stay tuned as I am broadcasting on all am frequencies! ;) Feel free to comment :)

quick question, not realated. are admins able to veiw their database to find out where all the vehicles are over the map?(not vehicle spawns)

How often are characters saved exactly?
Lukio (DayZ) replied to Rich (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The server maybe wasn't connected to the hive? There are some server admins who think its cool to not have the server connect to the hive to prevent server hopping / ghosting etc. While these user exploits ( as defined by Rocket) are deterred by this, your character does not get saved onto the official hive. Probably after restarting the server lost all player data from its local character database. My 2 cents (a bit OT): Personally I am pretty annoyed about all the fragmentation going on just with this mod itself for 100 servers found there are 30 different flavours with different settings, versions, beta versions and own modifications (side chat, vehicles etc.). This is typical for ARMA 2 servers and has always annoyed me that almost every server has its own strange mod settings, mod-modifications and versions running. To top that off the integrated Gamespy server browser is a piece of shit.and external server browsers are very slow when refreshing / updating. -
Agree or Disagree? Why we kill...
[email protected] replied to bbilbo1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you got a bullet in your head, i think it doesn't matter anymore. The only thing that matters is who kills first ;). Shure for your surviabilities it could be Useful to know that Player kill for gear, then you better don't raid an Airfield without cover. If we take it seriously it would matter, but there are so many reasons to kill that it make no difference, the only thing you have to know is that you are not save in Chernau, wherever you are! I think would this scenario be real the most ppl. only would Kill for: Religions (some kind of new Zombiereligions), Food, Sex with your girlfirend, weapons and Vehicles. Srry for my sometimes Bad English, its not my first language, so if you find any faults, or sometimes the meanin of my words are not clear because it's wrong... then nvm... its just another opinion. -
Tents don't disappear as long as they're being used. That's why tents in crowded locations such as cities and airfields never seem to disappear: there's always someone taking a peek every few hours. I don't think static object such as tents and barbed wire put much strain on the server performance. Most issues relate to vehicles and the zombie AI.
