Loot is loot is loot, and "inflation" doesn't necessarily have as adverse effects as monetary inflation. More groups will have higher tier gear, maybe, but that doesn't make the equipment any less valuable.I play in a group and we raided perhaps the entire northern half of the map today. Drops like NVG, tents and vehicles have low spawn rates and it really comes down to luck. Hitting high yield areas like supermarkets and the NWAF increases your odds of finding epic lewtz, but there's never a guarantee. IN CONCLUSION, I wouldn't mind spawns to be tweaked but, if they are, I don't want rare items to become rarer. It's simply disheartening and a bit boring to traipse across the map with very little luck in finding goodies. This is all while using the db map to not miss deer stands, heli crash sites, etc.

Suggestion to improve trust/interaction among players
NoxZA replied to Womble (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The only solution would be to add more incentives to be a survivor without removing anything from being a bandit. Like I said a while back, blood bags are a good example. Effectively it's a full HP potion in this game but you can not use it on yourself, it has to be given to you by another players. This forces players that are low on blood (basically HP in this game) to team up with at least one other person if they want to get their blood back. Of course there is the alternative of eating a lot of food to get your blood back up, but if you are on 5k blood or less that's a lot of food that you will have to find, and simply getting a blood transfusion is easier. More items such as the blood bag is needed to improve teamwork. There can be other examples of this. Something like you need a toolbox to fix a car, having them spawn very rarely and not being able to loot them off of dead players. Now this is a terrible idea since now bandits can't fix cars on their own (taking away something from bandits), but I still think it's a good example. Now players that want to fix vehicles but don't have a toolbox will also be forced to find other players that may have a toolbox. This forces them to come out of the tree lines and approach other players to try and find out if they have a toolbox and if they are willing to help. PS. Like I said, horrible idea. Please do not think I want this in the game, it can be exploited horribly. Bandits could just claim they have a toolbox to lure someone out and then just shoot them. Just an example of how items can be used to help teams be formed. The other thing that will help with people teaming up is to make the zombies more difficult to deal with. With harder zeds players are still free to PvP as much as they like, but if it's far easier to clear out a town with more people than less than players will think twice before just gunning everyone down. Currently they are of a minimal threat since even unarmed players can get rid of them, but they are still very basic in their design and I think once they are fleshed out a bit they will become more of a challenge to deal with. -

The Biggest Plausible Dynamic Events Thread Ever
datguy (DayZ) replied to ElemenoP's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is just an observation not a judgement. It would seem not so much a case of the mod being boring, but you're choosing to play it in a very boring way. Here's things I do for fun.1. go hunting for camps. Lots of walking around the map, quiet boring in a way, but also pretty nerve wracking since you never know which pine tree is the one with the CoD sniper camped under it. and there are a lot of trees. Once I find a camp, I case it out, clear it if I can, and raid it. Other players tents load rare guns, NVGs and Coyote Backpacks far more frequently than the barracks ever do. 2. Ambush and/or steal vehicles. I have preferred high traffic ambush sights. I have preferred weapons for ambushes. I enjoy getting in other player's heads, figuring out where they're likely to be, or be heading, and killing the driver as they come around a corner into my field of fire. The rush when you hear the engine in the distance is a whole lot better than the rush of seeing a lone, empty handed survivor hitting up a military loot spawn in the hope of finding a gun and taking their defenseless scalp. 3. Playing santa. Sometime I'll find an ATV. I don't like riding them, so what to do? Well, maybe go back to a camp I had to leave a ton of stuff I couldn't carry before, load the ATV up with guns, ammo and other supplies, then heading down to the first line of hills above the coast, blasting the horn a few times, lighting a fire, stacking it with woodpiles so it burns for ages, and just leaving. Pulling off something like this, by yourself or with friends, is a whole lot more fun and challenging than serverhopping without moving from your boring sniper nest, looking for newbs to kill. Plus it makes players who hoard stuff mad, and gives other survivors cool stories to tell that don't end with "and then I killed him/he killed me." It's a sandbox. Make less boring sandcastles. All that said, some dynamic events would be fun too. Edit: one thing I don't do for fun is raid the NWA. Too many server hopping candy bandits looking for lame kills and easy loot. It doesn't matter how good or careful my mates are, odds are as soon as they reach the barracks and start to do a sweep, someone's going to spawn in and kills at least one of them. and usually logs out soon after. -
Base Defenses ( Document included )
ZombieGrin replied to ZombieGrin's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If this was real we would hear the helicopter or vehicles being stolen and have a chance to wake up and defend it. Unfortunately that is not an option so there has to be ANOTHER way to defend while we are offline. Turrets and electric fences powered by petrol fueled generators would help fix that... It is totally balanced and if you are smart and play well you can counter the turrets and electric fences. Unfortunately everyone who is against this idea are probably bad solo players who wouldnt stand a chance against a well defended player compound. So no wonder so many of these casual bad players say its a bad idea. The turrets would need to be near a generator ( have to find a generator AND a generator in the first place ) both can be shot and damaged to be deactived ( Cannot put them in open areas because they will just get sniped ) and they require constant fuel runs to keep the generator running to power the defenses ( Meaning if you are patient you can cut off supply lines to refuel the generators )... The ideas I suggested are balanced and effective. Not liking this idea without providing any reason other than "I dont like it, this is stupid" sure shows the rest of the community how much you can flex your creativity, -
on my server noticed a lot of loot and spawn vehicles, as well as the emergence of cheaters who are killing - resurrect. Yesterday friends oblutal tent in the woods where there were about five AS50 and they both were 25, 5 night vision, GPS and 5 there is still a lot of sniper weapons. --- + VAZ 2103 still saw the same that we have now - strange, but it is only one on the server.

Arma2 patch build 94997 now running on some servers
ctrl-alt-DESTROY! replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
just played for 3 or 4 hours on our server. it was updated with 94997 and the latest BE. a couple of people had 2 or 3 minutes of difficulty connecting / updating, but all went well after. we went all over, in different vehicles and were in different situations and everything seemed to be running as normal with much less vehicular desync - not once did we appear to be doing backflips or driving through 6 houses in a row. thanks! -
US 261 Tent & Vehicle despawned - Restart possibly required?
Rythlas posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
All three of my tents have despawned and I'm not seeing any vehicles on the map anymore. I have no clue how to get in contact with this servers admin. All it says is hosted by kilo. I read somewhere that a restart will fix this. Help please? -

If you wouldn't murder in real life don't do that here. I hope they remove tents/vehicles/sniper rifles/nvg for 3 days. Snipers might not pump someone full of lead if they can fight back. -
A question about servers that are going down and not coming back up
Kegan187 posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I have been playing DayZ for quite a while now and love it. However, I have been losing my camps because of the servers that they are on go down, then never come back up. This has happened to me a lot, I stopped counting after the sixth server. The amount of vehicles and loot my group and I have been losing is beginning to get to me, mainly because I cannot find a server that will actually stay up for at least 5 days before going down and not coming back up. So, my questions is this: How can I possibly figure out if a certain server is going to be up for a long time? Or, if that is not possible, why have so many servers been going down and not coming back up? For those of you who may not have noticed it, most of the Chicago servers have gone down and disappeared(There are currently 16 online, while there was many more. I believe it was close to 50). I do not know how widespread this seemingly random event is, so please excuse my ignorance of the other 100s of servers. -
US 602 (formerly LA 5) - The way DayZ is meant to be played
Disgraced replied to joikd's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Is net stats what we get when we press "I"? Since this is where we can see the server name when connected, this should always be on, shouldn't it? I've started playing on this server, so far, so good.. Found my first helicopter crash this morning, but vehicles are still MIA for me. -
So my brother has a group of friends that play DayZ, but he didn't have the game while I did. I decided to let him use my account to play cause I was busy that week. He ends up meeting with those guys and getting geared the fuck up like a boss. My dilemma is this. We have two gaming PCs, I dont know the specs, but they're perfect for Arma 2, but thats not the point. Thing is, we got Arma 2 CO on our second steam account so we can play together in DayZ. I knew my brother used my Steam for his DayZ profile, so I logged into His steam for my own DayZ. I launch DayZ on the second computer and I end up with his stuff, his location, and everything. What I'm asking is this: Did I just spawn with his stuff in his location from a new save, or am I still using his account no matter what Arma 2 profile or STEAM profile I use? Is it the computer that he played on last? Because I want to start on a clean slate, but it would be cool if I suddenly had his Ghillie, M4, colt, ammo, bandages, alicepacks, vehicles, etc etc, but I dont want to squander it by not knowing if its his or not. I would figure this out WITH him, but he's at work until 11PM easern time. So if I dont get a reply by then, I might end up fixing it with him, just some input would be appreciated.

Yeah, people trying to gain an unfair advantage over other players. Cheating / exploiting. Strangely, most of the people who do this sort of thing refer to themselves as 1337 and other such nonsense. Seriously though.... I would like to know if there's a way to turn down the engine noise of vehicles. It seems stupidly loud at times. Wouldn't want it to be silent and obviously any client side alteration wouldn't affect how other people hear it. Not trying to have a stealth bus or anything :)

Arma2 patch build 94997 now running on some servers
Ander (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Just want to mention, once again. Both client and servers need to run the BE executable to get updated. An automated BEpatch will come in later (according to BIS representatives - but who knows if it'll work rightaway) I will however say that vehicles work much better now with 1.7.2.3 and latest build (less desync, havent had any players teleporting out of cars). Servers that patch will get prioritized helicopter love. ;) -
soooo? chronic and lil chronic, hack much? today a few buddies and i decided to do little hiking through the woods. and came across a camp sight with a ton of vehicles in it.( and yes it was in server us23) as we got to the camp sight we came across a long lost friend of ours, chronic. well needless the problem was handled accordingly and we continued on with our high-jacking of this camps vehicles. but then the funniest thing happened. as we drove away we could not help but notice every time we stopped, no matter how far we got from this camp sight we continued to take fire, we could not get away. i just think its kind of funny. and btw it interests me to know how you managed to keep up and know where we were? im sure its been said before but im positive something funny is going on in that server. well its not the first time we come into contact with you guys and im sure it wont be the last. see you in the woods. sincerely, -RusH-

jovial replied to skyter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Its a sandbox game, of course PvP and banditry will be rampant, even when they add decent group content (base building, electricity, stuff to block logins within a radius, maybe more vehicles, etc). You had the right idea at the end of your post though. Thats the way to go about things in a sandbox game. Change the rules yourself. Get a group together, join a clan, get some friends into it. Do things your own way. It can be done, even if its hard, you just have to realize that you can't impose your own mindset and playstyle on the majority of the players out there. Roll with it or leave. -
Ugh. Tips on finding tents / vehicles?
Bubba Jones replied to Zexis's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
For vehicles, hit the NW quadrant of the map. A LOT of people stash their vehicles in that area. The area from Lopatino going north and to the west of the road going up through the pass - that corner of the map. -

Supermarkets is where I've found most of my tents. Vehicles have spawns and there's external maps which have them listed. -
Ugh. Tips on finding tents / vehicles?
jovial replied to Zexis's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Usually, most vehicles have been grabbed by various groups and clans, and will still be stored outside map if you believe the other thread about vehicles outside map boundaries not despawning. Best case scenario they decide to keep it inside the map, and then its still down to luck or their lack of creativity/abundance of stupidity that decides if you'll be able to find them. -
Do you ever feel like getting awesome guns is a waste?
insolentfool replied to Shard (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My crew has enough spare weapons to make this a non-issue for us. I'm more concerned about ghillies and keeping our vehicles. I've passed on the L85 and as50's we have in favour of a silenced m4, each of our crew has a job and im the designated zombie killer when we scavenge. -
Aight, myths and shiz aside, I will tell you what I did find. Loot? Minimal, but vehicles can potentially spawn along with low level military. Zeds? A few. Only two things intrigued me. First, there's a big pile of dead bodies swarmed with flies. It's...kinda gross. Secondly, there was at least one zombie I couldn't find. Sounded like it was in the green building, but I couldn't find a way in. So...I dunno.

* Server this happened on: US 40 * Time that it happened including your timezone: Approximately 9:00 p.m. (-8)GMT Pacific * What happened during the incident: Found what strongly appears to be spawned in Vehicles and weapons from the Admin, MrEpicGoat. Vehicles found were an A-10, a helo, motorcycle, UAZ, upside down wreckage of a car, sedan, a boat, and a bus. What strongly appeared to be hacked weapons found, were the RGO frag grenade (not shown in video) and a M136 Missile launcher. The missile launcher was found on the Admin's body (MrEpicGoat) at this apparent spawn site. (Was easy to figure out who the admin was, because of numerous occassions of him chatting over blufor chat and also announcing server restarts. Also, it helps that he has an admin tag by his name in game.) Also important to note is the pilot uniform he is wearing. In the video my friend picks up the M136 off the admin's body and then puts it back on the body while I'm recording, so in the video it could appear that we were planting evidence on his body, if you are being anal about it, but I don't know what to tell you other than I'm telling the truth and I think all the other evidence is more than enough anyway. Here's the video evidence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gV1SEccRbTQ Sidenote: I confronted him about this and he just now shutdown server.

Or well-decorated storage boxes - make one look like a fridge or a wardrobe. Throw some beans on the kitchen table. Still need the loot spread on the floor, but I agree that having cabinets to go through would make it more interesting. Being a mod doesn't matter. We've already got tents and vehicles that are interactive storage boxes. Just add a few more similar objects in the buildings.
