  1. I think some people here are confused what you mean by private. Official servers connected to the HIVE and hosted by you at your home are not "private". These are normal servers, it doesn't matter if they are hosted in a datacenter or in your closet. Private servers are the ones NOT connected to the HIVE and have their own database. Are you asking if you can host your server at home, or are you asking if it is possible to run a private server without official database? You can host at home, as long as you meet all the *cough*retarded*cough* requirements made by the DayZ staff. You can host a private server that is not connected to the official HIVE and thus enforce your own rules, edit inventories, add vehicles, kick and ban anyone you like without fearing the horrible BLACKLISTING (Oh noez!).

    Possible cheat or admin abuse?

Right, just wondering what powers an admin has over these servers or something about regular servers that makes it easier to track people (I see myself, buddies and vehicles on the map and just wondered if there was a way people were exploiting that). Just seemed kind of fishy to me you know? Been able to hold our own ground against people who had silenced weapons/NVG's (thanks again for the good loots, bandits!) and then on a day where the server changes its type and everything gone (yes I've already learned to not become too attached to thing lol) in a short time (from the time we died and ran back to camp about 30-45 mins)... All coincidental I'm sure, just really reaching out to the community to see if anyone out there has a lot of knowledge on this kind of thing happening before. Thanks for the info though :) Update: found more camp sites to resupply lost loots already :P
  3. Bat (DayZ)

    Just, wow.

The whole point of the game is to find yourself goals because the game won't give you any. Here's my story through my multiples characters : - I started my first characters just surviving, I headed up all the way north, had lots of luck finding loot on dead players. Being extremely careful (I'm into roleplay) I survived one full week around NW airfield (didnt know it was dangerous back then lol) set up a tent I started fill with car parts - Then my dream was to repair a car by myself. It took me some weeks, but it's so good to think about logistic and stuff (what do I carry ? do I take one extra food? or that wheel?) - Found and repaired a car (UAZ) after something like a 3 weeks of playing. Many failed attempts (died countless times because I wasn't stealthy enough). - After that I lost my car really fast. But I went to another server, and could get another UAZ running in 10 hours. Lost it again after 30 minutes, sniped near devils castle :( - Then I teamed up with a guy asking for blood packs in cherno, and started playing multiplayer. We used steam to chat and we got a GAZ running fairly quick, and had the best play session of all time, a whole night driving from town to town, scavenging stuff, trying to repair a wheel after an accident, I saved my buddy's life 2 times and he saved mine too, he found a bicycle. - Then we got our hands on a UAZ and a motorbike for him, we tried setting a camp. It lasted 1 night but some guy with a heli must have found our vehicles with the cheated radar stuff. - We found a camp in the north and got our hands on nvgs, fn fal nv, all sorts of good loot. We made another camp and got a white pick up and quad. Then raided NW airfield (found myself a svd camo) had the most intense session ever. Had to snipe one unlucky guy in the barracks. On our way back some guy was trying to steal the pickup, my friend died, the guy disconected after I shot him with SVD trhough the window. A wheel was broken on the pickup. When I came back with a wheel, the car was already stolen ( there were many corpses all around, a guy with a wheel... A clan war for our pickup, that is cool :)) - We then tried establishing a trading camp in kamenka, died countless time again, was fun too :) - after that I just came back to actual solo surviving, killing everyone on sight for safety reasons. I became a pretty good player, fast and aware of my environment, my weapon strentgh and weaknesses (CZ and AKM), and killed many players who should have been more careful. But every people I took down was a necessity. I now use direct chat a lot, trying to communicate, but people are just too paranoid and I HAVE to kill them, unfortunately. Hope it will give you clues on how to live your ingame lives. Edit : We also stumbled on some kind of peaceful beatnick comunity in the woods, they were driving around with a van and 2 buses and only carried lesser grade weapons, and never shot people. I stumbled on their camp by accident, and at the same time 2 guys on motorcycle came from nowhere, they were bandits trying to steal the camp. I took them down with my akm. I was thanked by the guys of the camp after I told the story on side channel. They helped me get my quad flipped on its wheels again, and gave me antibiotics. Was cool.

    murder counter bias

Don't reward or discourage anything. Players decisions are players decisions. I think that sniper would have been having the time of his life on that hill, picking off nooblets. Hell i remember running up to a tent and getting shot at once, lucky he was a horrible shot. However i can agree that the scoreboard could show a LOT more things then it currently does, even if it just be for records sake. It wouldn't hurt anything if you could know: How many times you have eaten/drunk How many KM's you have ran How many Blood Transfusions/Morphine/Bandages you have used on other players How many vehicles repaired Distance flown/driven/floated(?) Distance you have swam Time survived Bullets fired All those possibilities and so much more. And if you keep a form of suspense while your playing, dont show these until you die, in a final counter, similar to when you finish a campaign on any of the L4D's. I think that would be a good addition, just the ability to see how many times you did infact shoot your gun to kill 1 zombie and 10 players.

    game modes?

Actually i myself know i enjoy living in the DayZ world with minimal violence. This game has an appeal to me that is very realistic. I can go out in the woods, have a little camp with a fireplace, maybe a small vehicle or something i found, and a tent for storage. ill come on for an hour or 2 every day, go hunt some animals to refill my food supplies, fill up my canteens, and maybe even raid a nearby town. On days where my friends can come on with me, we will make a raid to one of the air fields in search of better weapons, ammunition, and vehicles. Its amazing how much fun this game can be, when all im doing is running through forests, killing animals, and making planned, meaningful raids into town, like i was actually surviving. Or am i just being a "hermit" as you described it? If so, thanks to DayZ for allowing player-based decisions.
  6. Taking all the stuff for your own, when there is limited. Hm. Major part of your vehicles rusty in ur camp, noone uses it. You eliminate the possibility to have a encounter with another team with vehicles or to find one. It makes the whole game boring. Sadly nearly everone thinks he must gather all vehicles from the server...

What is considered out of bounds?

I generally say the darker grey lines are the out of bounds, or where the numbers are (top, and side). Depending on which map you use (ingame or out) and how far you've zoomed in. Vehicles and tents outside the borders are deleted when the server is reset. Or atleast, that is what is suppose to happen.
  8. I recently read that all out of bounds vehicles and tents will despawn or get moved or something. According to this map at http://dayzdb.com/map what is considered out of bounds? is it as the map states (3 horizontally, 19 vertically) or is it past 0 on both axis. Also what exactly happens to vehicles and tents left out of bounds. Thanks
  9. Oh don't worry, they were incredibly far apart, every single item from every single tent was looted, vehicles were all blown up (lots of ammo/grenades??)
  10. well actually this never happened to me because i never made a camp but finding vehicles in the woods isnt that hard if you got a L85A2 AWS :P so maybe place the vehicles far away from the camp
  11. "Somehow" players found my group's large camp site stretching 1200 or so meters across, every single vehicle, every single tent, everything. Each vehicle blown up and each tent looted and empty, not even a single empty tin can in our decoy tents. At every tent/vehicle the "raiders" placed a public mark on the map such as "Nice camp", "Nice duped vehicles and weapons", "Oh we also saw that here", "And here", "Burned that truck too.", "Don't need hacked stuff"... Must I go on? But on a more serious note, our several camps were set up so if 1 was raided, all our other tents are in a safe secure place, we had tents literally invisible into tri-bushes of trees that even our own members had trouble looking for. Either those guys are the biggest hypocrites in game (hacking to find camps/blowing them to shreds)... Or so incredibly lucking and they're insanely good. Mind you, our campsites have been untouched for 20 or so days, have any of you guys come across map hackers? It really just sucked the fun out of the game after getting out characters nuked 4 or so times in the past several days, then finally everything "blown up" for us. PS: Isn't it just a tad bit curious that these players, instead of TAKING the vehicles full of M4's, several 50 cals, LMGs, etc... They simply, blow it up? Then accuse us of hacking- (even though they're probably hacking). So how often do you guys come across this sort of hypocritical behavior?

    Loot oversaturation

Loot is loot is loot, and "inflation" doesn't necessarily have as adverse effects as monetary inflation. More groups will have higher tier gear, maybe, but that doesn't make the equipment any less valuable.I play in a group and we raided perhaps the entire northern half of the map today. Drops like NVG, tents and vehicles have low spawn rates and it really comes down to luck. Hitting high yield areas like supermarkets and the NWAF increases your odds of finding epic lewtz, but there's never a guarantee. IN CONCLUSION, I wouldn't mind spawns to be tweaked but, if they are, I don't want rare items to become rarer. It's simply disheartening and a bit boring to traipse across the map with very little luck in finding goodies. This is all while using the db map to not miss deer stands, heli crash sites, etc.

    US 136 Hackers

I am just going to get right to the point. My and my team just lost a ton of stuff to a hacker tonight. When ever we logged out and logged back in a few hours later our primary, and secondary weapons where gone and our back pack was gone off our characters. Then when I got my stuff back I was turned into a cow and saw the hacker running off in my characters skin and with all my stuff. This hacker cleared the server. I have seen hacked choppers, hackers killing people when falling in the sky, and vehicles while they are driving with a satchel charge. I am really getting tired of this. Can we please try and get some server admin action here. We need name tags on this server so we can get these hackers names when this stuff happens. Any action would be appreciated. TopGun5005
  14. I have been playing on a veteran server (the same one) for over a week. In that time my buddies and I have been having fun finding vehicles and messing killing those trying to take our lootz. Today, when I logged into our normal server I find out that it still says veteran in the title but the server has actually been changed to regular. The last time I tried out a regular server (I had been trying to join any server when 1.7.2 first launched and just wanted to play), my buddies got killed and I lucked out. This time (our normal server changed its difficulty within hours of us finding a bunch of nice vechicles). This then lead to our teams (3 seperate teams going to 3 different objectives) got wiped out within minutes of each other. Upon respawn, we discover that our vehicles are gone (the really nice ones) and the rest destroyed. So my question is, is it possible for an admin to use regular settings to his/her advantage? Or merely a coincidence? I smell a cheater but since I don't have hard proof it's all chalked up to speculation. Not accusing anyone but I think it's coincendental on how events played out so quickly, especially it being changed to regular server (2nd time playing on veteran, think i learned muh lesson to never touch one again lol).
  15. The only solution would be to add more incentives to be a survivor without removing anything from being a bandit. Like I said a while back, blood bags are a good example. Effectively it's a full HP potion in this game but you can not use it on yourself, it has to be given to you by another players. This forces players that are low on blood (basically HP in this game) to team up with at least one other person if they want to get their blood back. Of course there is the alternative of eating a lot of food to get your blood back up, but if you are on 5k blood or less that's a lot of food that you will have to find, and simply getting a blood transfusion is easier. More items such as the blood bag is needed to improve teamwork. There can be other examples of this. Something like you need a toolbox to fix a car, having them spawn very rarely and not being able to loot them off of dead players. Now this is a terrible idea since now bandits can't fix cars on their own (taking away something from bandits), but I still think it's a good example. Now players that want to fix vehicles but don't have a toolbox will also be forced to find other players that may have a toolbox. This forces them to come out of the tree lines and approach other players to try and find out if they have a toolbox and if they are willing to help. PS. Like I said, horrible idea. Please do not think I want this in the game, it can be exploited horribly. Bandits could just claim they have a toolbox to lure someone out and then just shoot them. Just an example of how items can be used to help teams be formed. The other thing that will help with people teaming up is to make the zombies more difficult to deal with. With harder zeds players are still free to PvP as much as they like, but if it's far easier to clear out a town with more people than less than players will think twice before just gunning everyone down. Currently they are of a minimal threat since even unarmed players can get rid of them, but they are still very basic in their design and I think once they are fleshed out a bit they will become more of a challenge to deal with.

ArmA 2 OA has Stopped Working

I have the exact same problem as well. This only started after i tried the latest beta patch two days ago. When that failed, i downgraded back to 94876 and that is when the crashes started .i re installed and went through he same steps that OP did, but i still crash at 80% loaded at the loading screen with the vehicles (after joining server). I installed using the six launcher. Specs: Windows 7 64 bit (new) EVGA GTX 670 AMD Phenom X4 965 Processor (3.4 GHz) Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H Motherboard May some awesome tech guru come to the rescue!
  18. So if I deploy a tent on one server and then switch to another server the next day will my tent be there across all servers or just the one I set it up in? Same for vehicles?

    Hacker on ANZ5

ANZ 5 Approximately 2:30pm Melbourne time (GMT +10) Myself and another member were at our group's camp when one of our vehicles was destroyed by what sounded like a satchel charge. Someone started talking over direct communication at us and continued to destroy vehicles one by one. We could hear footsteps but the player was completely invisible and could not be found. I can only assume they were spawning satchel charges directly on the cars. I logged out to lobby and took a screenshot of all the users online at the time if it helps.

The Biggest Plausible Dynamic Events Thread Ever

This is just an observation not a judgement. It would seem not so much a case of the mod being boring, but you're choosing to play it in a very boring way. Here's things I do for fun.1. go hunting for camps. Lots of walking around the map, quiet boring in a way, but also pretty nerve wracking since you never know which pine tree is the one with the CoD sniper camped under it. and there are a lot of trees. Once I find a camp, I case it out, clear it if I can, and raid it. Other players tents load rare guns, NVGs and Coyote Backpacks far more frequently than the barracks ever do. 2. Ambush and/or steal vehicles. I have preferred high traffic ambush sights. I have preferred weapons for ambushes. I enjoy getting in other player's heads, figuring out where they're likely to be, or be heading, and killing the driver as they come around a corner into my field of fire. The rush when you hear the engine in the distance is a whole lot better than the rush of seeing a lone, empty handed survivor hitting up a military loot spawn in the hope of finding a gun and taking their defenseless scalp. 3. Playing santa. Sometime I'll find an ATV. I don't like riding them, so what to do? Well, maybe go back to a camp I had to leave a ton of stuff I couldn't carry before, load the ATV up with guns, ammo and other supplies, then heading down to the first line of hills above the coast, blasting the horn a few times, lighting a fire, stacking it with woodpiles so it burns for ages, and just leaving. Pulling off something like this, by yourself or with friends, is a whole lot more fun and challenging than serverhopping without moving from your boring sniper nest, looking for newbs to kill. Plus it makes players who hoard stuff mad, and gives other survivors cool stories to tell that don't end with "and then I killed him/he killed me." It's a sandbox. Make less boring sandcastles. All that said, some dynamic events would be fun too. Edit: one thing I don't do for fun is raid the NWA. Too many server hopping candy bandits looking for lame kills and easy loot. It doesn't matter how good or careful my mates are, odds are as soon as they reach the barracks and start to do a sweep, someone's going to spawn in and kills at least one of them. and usually logs out soon after.

Base Defenses ( Document included )

If this was real we would hear the helicopter or vehicles being stolen and have a chance to wake up and defend it. Unfortunately that is not an option so there has to be ANOTHER way to defend while we are offline. Turrets and electric fences powered by petrol fueled generators would help fix that... It is totally balanced and if you are smart and play well you can counter the turrets and electric fences. Unfortunately everyone who is against this idea are probably bad solo players who wouldnt stand a chance against a well defended player compound. So no wonder so many of these casual bad players say its a bad idea. The turrets would need to be near a generator ( have to find a generator AND a generator in the first place ) both can be shot and damaged to be deactived ( Cannot put them in open areas because they will just get sniped ) and they require constant fuel runs to keep the generator running to power the defenses ( Meaning if you are patient you can cut off supply lines to refuel the generators )... The ideas I suggested are balanced and effective. Not liking this idea without providing any reason other than "I dont like it, this is stupid" sure shows the rest of the community how much you can flex your creativity,
  22. Server: US 394 Time: From 11:00 PM to 12:20 AM Eastern US (GMT -5) A few friends and I had found a couple vehicles and we were driving around. A cheater, we think his in-game name was Alex but not sure. We would be driving and everything would turn red, as in everything damaged and needs repaired, then would go back to full green. This went on, back and forth from red to green for a while, so we decided we would just park the vehicles somewhere and leave to do something else. Well, as we were grouping back up, we kept seeing someone else come to us on random vehicles, an ATV, motorcycle, tractor.. and once he'd get close to us he'd blow them up. Keep in mind this is in a server where currently there are only about 10 people connected, 6 of them being us. He blew up one of our trucks so we started to hide them, and then all the vehicle damage was on red and stayed there (this happened to all 5 of our vehicles). I was getting out of my truck and it blew up, killing me. This is his tractor that he drove up and blew up, and in the background one of our other trucks that blew up. My truck blew up just a minute or so after this screenshot. (Taken at 12:16 AM) http://cloud-2.steam...EF7FF5C5B258A5/

    spawn loot.

on my server noticed a lot of loot and spawn vehicles, as well as the emergence of cheaters who are killing - resurrect. Yesterday friends oblutal tent in the woods where there were about five AS50 and they both were 25, 5 night vision, GPS and 5 there is still a lot of sniper weapons. --- + VAZ 2103 still saw the same that we have now - strange, but it is only one on the server.

Arma2 patch build 94997 now running on some servers

just played for 3 or 4 hours on our server. it was updated with 94997 and the latest BE. a couple of people had 2 or 3 minutes of difficulty connecting / updating, but all went well after. we went all over, in different vehicles and were in different situations and everything seemed to be running as normal with much less vehicular desync - not once did we appear to be doing backflips or driving through 6 houses in a row. thanks!
  25. Hello, I basically posted this on reddit/r/dayz so I'm just going to copy paste it here because I figured out that it would mean more, sorry if it's too long. First of all I would like to start off with saying that English isn't my native language so expect some grammar/spelling mistakes. So, me and my friends played on a server called UK117, it's basically a server managed by a clan named "The MoFo police". We started playing on this server for about one week ago and I guess the server was pretty new back then and we could basically pick up vehicles at every spawn location which we did. We got to a point where we had eight vehicles actually (prt scrn here). One day upon logging into the server I noticed that the clan had a Teamspeak server and I logged into the server and started chatting with the clan, they were very friendly and nice people. I showed them the picture of our camp and told them that it was on their server which they didn't believe until I actually went and picked them up with a vehicle. So we drove around together with some people in their clan and even gave them a UAZ because we figured "why not, we're playing on their server the least we could do is give them one of our eight vehicles". I also made a bet to my friend saying "I'll give you five bucks if they still have the vehicle the next day". Surprisingly, when I hop onto their server the next day they tell me that they've lost it and jokingly, at least we thought, said that if we did not give them another one, they would reset the server so that they could get the vehicles at the spawn locations. And so they did. We logged on to find our entire camp gone, including the tents which are not normally removable, so we simply decided to start over by beginning to play on another server. When we confronted them about it over TS, they clearly sarcastically denied. Okay, here's the weird part though. One day later we decide to log into the server again and we find out that our camp was back (all vehicles/tents except one vehicle). We found this strange and we didn't think much about it, all we knew is that we had to switch camp. My friend took one vehicle and drove to pick up our third friend. I stood still in our camp, waiting for my friends to return. And that's when i notice one of the admins walking up on the hill, to our camp. I immediately run behind a tree, start shooting at him and he disconnects to the lobby. I run away to our Ural and figured that I should at least save one of the vehicles. I drive, as far as I can and then I get kicked from the server along with my two other friends that weren't even close to the camp. Here's when i start recording with fraps (sorry for not too good quality). Basically we get kicked over and over again. link: http://youtu.be/Jsy3XEpBYRw Now I know that I don't have real proof of everything, but I'm just posting this for others to be careful. TL;DR: We play on a server, find many vehicles, admins tells us to give them some vehicles or they will reset it, we don't give them, they reset, our camp disappears but appears again some days after, they've found the camp, they kick us from server to get everything. EDIT: Also, I know that tents/vehicles can randomly disappear but that's not the point here. The point is that the admins kept kicking us over and over again to steal our vehicles and get away. UPDATE 1: So my friends made it into the server (finally) while I was typing this post, I guess they got tired of kicking us over and over again, my friends drove to our camp and found out that all vehicles were gone except one tractor and the URAL that I managed to move before they kicked me. So, they kept kicking us until they grabbed five vehicles, and then they stopped kicking us.
