  1. Yeah we have a few camps like that which aren't nearly as bad but still verging on getting silly (3 NVG, most of the top end weapons + 30 mags or so for each, a dozen Coyote packs and all the tools , meds and food you could want) but they pop up so often and are so easily put back into operation it's not worth our time to keep stamping them out. Meh all I know is tents and Vehicles are Buggy and don't seem to operate the same way consistently XD Destroyed tents on our server come back in all their glory on reboot but can be saved empty =p Somtimes they don't come back on a restart at first, but will after a 2nd or third =p
  2. Name:Jack Age:15 In game name:Jelly Steam Id:Jelly Desired combat role (Medic, sniper, exc):Which ever is needed the most-I am new to the game but I can quickly learn. Why you would like to join (Going to need to do better than simply ‘lookin 4 group’) :I have played the game for a few days now and from my experience so far it seems that in this game it is had to find people I can trust not to kill me on sight and people to talk with and have fun so joining a clan/group/community seems to be a good thing to do but most of all i enjoy working as a team. What can you offer to the clan: I keep dieing -mostly from bandits so i don`t have equipment or vehicles I can give but I am good in a team, enjoy helping others, will listen to people and have experience working in a group from other games that require team work.
  3. If my understanding is right Tents and such like are server side hence why you manually save them and they are server specific. Vehicles also run locally and have the same save/dupe problems but somehow thier spawning at all on the server is hive managed....
  4. M107 looks better and has a better scope. Both kill players in one shot. I should try them out on vehicles to see how it is. Really, shoot a few rounds. test it out on zombies to see bullet drop and velocity. It's more of a matter of taste.

    Banned from CA1?

Yeah, I won't bother with CA1 anymore. Full of hacker that spawn helis, full of other hackers, and some retarded guys who post in sidechat "Anyone in Cherno??" - "Shots at NW airfield, identify!" And yeah, the de-syncs were really annoying, although you got those on other servers, too. I got on the server today (turns out I wasnt banned, just unable to join), and asked why he got banned. He got picked up by a hacker in a spawned heli (he didnt know it was one and just thought "nice guy") and was brought to NWAF), someone saw him ask for a ride (oblivious to the fact it was a hacker), so they reported him, he got banned. I was asking why he got banned then, and they answered me he was banned for use of banned vehicles/weapons, so wtf? being picked up by someone you dont see is a hacker isn't using it in my opinion, also the guy knew right where he was! Well, fuck that server, to be honest. Now they made it so you have a separate character, when you join, and the server is totally empty. My friend said "The admin should step on a lego brick" :P
  6. So this morning I was scouting on my server that I co-admin with our clan leader and ran across what can only be described as a very large player built military encampment. After spending about 20 minutes scoping it from different angles with my L85 to ensure it was empty, I made my way to it and it was literally over 150 meters of sand bags, tank traps and wire fencing....the amount of defensive emplacements were unbelievable. As I entered the camp I noticed they had several of our servers vehicles but what caught my eye were the hundred or so tents all set up in an organized manner. Our server has been up for a week, even if a group of people had been working 24 hours a day for the entire week, just the amount of sand bags and tents are unbelievable all by themselves. I then started checking the tents, finding tents with inordinate amounts of the same type of gun and ridiculous amounts of ammunition for them. Each tent I found in the section that seemed to be dedicated to weapons had a completely legal gun that should be in the game, but the total amount of them was absolutely impossible. There is no way all this stuff was found on my server in a week. And we have two clans that play on our server and this camp belongs to neither of those clans (we share a team speak for DayZ). Obviously what I found is a pretty indepth duping camp, cause theres just no way, even carting this stuff from another server to my clan's server, that anyone could have this much stuff stockpiled legitimately. So after going through several tents I grabbed an M203 and several HE rounds from their stock, got outside the camp and flattened the place. Hopefully to send a message that I don't want that crap on my server....but it would be nicer if I could specify the coordinates and have that area cleared entirely from my server at the Hive level. Is there any way to do this? Or should we just not really give a crap since this is alpha?
  7. There should be milling and turning machines for players to find, fix and use. They should be used to fix, maintain or upgrade equipment (rifles, vehicles etc). To drive a jeep, you need to find and fix one. To fix a jeep, you need to collect a lot of metal and spares. Some spares can be found, some can be created using milling machines, turning machines and other similar equipment. To use a turning machine, you need to find it and fix it first. For that, you also need to look for spares or produce them. You would also want to move the drilling machine to a safe location close to your camp, but you'd need some sort of transport. A jeep maybe? ;)
  8. Because the service you purchase are subject to the terms of service of the hosting company you use, let me use an example. Multiplay CLEARLY states the service you purchase and the limitations you have if you want a whitelisted ranked service, Some of them are: The DayZ instance ID is provided by Multiplay. Certain entities (including but not limited to vehicles) are controlled by the DayZ development team. There is no guarantee that these will regularly spawn on your service. The server must remain public at all times. Passworded servers are not permitted. Your service must comply with DayZ naming conventions set by the development team. The DayZ server code is in the alpha stage. As such features may be missing or unstable from time to time. This includes but is not limited to memory leaks, server crashes and high CPU. We will pass any information of this nature to the DayZ development team for review. Server hosts are asked to make this clear when renting DayZ servers, if a server does not comply with the rules, they are taken off whitelisting and thus not able to connect to the hive. This is perfectly legal per contract

    Trains...

if vehicles just magically spawn into the map, im sure we can come up with something for a train. it could be a diesel engine. Large Diesel barrels or drums instead of Jerry Cans, the wheels could be like car wheels without the rubber. scrap metal to repair the hull. its not that complicated. i think this is an awesome idea that isnt too far fetched at all. remember- Good Gameplay > Realism
  10. Well, what can i say except that i am sad to see when people are leaving. I can't do much as to keep up and searching for my personal feeling the optimum configured server. Also i am still searching the reason why vehicles are de- and respawning after a couple of restarts.
  11. Good physics including ragdoll, vehicles and world objects. (much like demoed in Arma 3). Large amounts of damage should destroy character and zombie models. Missling limbs, flying meat chunks, oh quake 1 how I loved your tasty gibs.

    Camouflage nets

I had the idea of camouflage nets seeing how helicopters are a great way to find your camp and your vehicles etc. Great to conceal your camp and anything you don't want to get found. Also camouflage tents/nets IE a dome shaped camouflage net can also be effective at concealing your stuff from people not in the air. However will need to be big enough to park a pickup truck under. Also they should come in varying sizes. some concealing single tents (though maybe not nessesary because tents are already camouflaged but not enough since i find them with little problem) up to a helicopter. Such models are already in game such as the camo net behind the cheno hospital next to the fire places. they just need to be deployable in portable in a similar fashion as all other construction/fortifications in game. thoughts and opinions?

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.4

I'd like to question when the alt-f4, or force-quit, information is recorded. I don't want to end up with a bad rep because I was trying to join a friend's server. For example: I'm on server A, group of friends are on server B. I leave server A (normally, using abort) I join server B, but can't get past the loading screen after clicking "ok" to play - Since 'ESC' doesn't work, and I can't abort, alt-F4 or force-quit become my only option. I end up doing this maybe 3 or 4 times before giving up, then we all try a different server. (finding a well maintained server that doesn't get hacked often is a pain) I know that a player's character can show up in-game a bit before the player can actually play. So I guess I'm just wondering when it actually counts as "in-game"? Also, is it possible to add a counter (like in backpacks-> 12/20) to tents and vehicles to show how much inventory space is left?
  14. TL;DR: towards the end of the post. Why single shard? DayZ has persistent characters, so it has to have a persistent world. Single shard solves most problems like server-hopping, disconnecting to prevent death and other types of abuse and cheating. The problem is, an endless Skyrim-like territory will require endless server capacity, so we need to apply the 'multiple separate solar systems' idea from EVE Online to DayZ in an authentic manner. Islands: a solution to horizontal load balancing DayZ has to be set on a cluster of islands. Each island is supported by its own server instance. When the character travels from one island to another, he moves between instances, yet all characters persist on a single server simultaneously. You cannot see one island from another. To get to another island, you have to swim 1 km into the open sea in the direction of the destination island. Then you’ll be prompted to confirm that you are willing to leave your current island and enter the destination island. After a loading delay, you will appear 800m out in the open sea next to your destination island. You will approach the shore as usual by swimming. The resulting drop in body temperature will depend on what gear you have (fins, wetsuit etc). By using a boat or a helicopter, you can travel to islands that are located much farther and more importantly carry more items. Much like normal travel, you’d have to fly 1 km out into the sea, select destination and spawn next to it a few seconds later. Depending on the implied travel distance, an adequate amount of fuel is consumed by your vehicle, which is a big restriction on round-the-world travel given the scarcity of vehicles and fuel in the world. It’s a cold new day All new players are spawned on the shore (let’s say they are survivors from a sunken refugee transport running away from infested mainland) and have to make their way inland to survive. To avoid spawn camping, players are spawned across multiple islands a certain distance away from anyone who spent more than 1 hour in-game. Example: rough perimeter of Limnos is over 100 km, so that is a lot of secluded space for people to be washed ashore. ‘Lawful good’ players may police the coastline to search for newbies and repel griefers. ‘Chaotic evil’ griefers may do the exact opposite. It’s a hardcore dog-eat-dog world out there. No safe landing zones, PVP anywhere. Something to die for Hunger, thirst, cold and scarcity of medicine, fuel and ammo dominate the post-apocalyptic landscape. Single players will have to look for supplies and fight off the infected and animals. Of course, at some point they will accumulate good gear and start looking for more things to do. Carpool lane While it is entirely possible to be a lone wolf (good or evil), it is much easier to survive as a group. An organised group can do more like find enough spare parts to fix a boat and find enough fuel to travel to another island (and slaughter everyone there). Joining a team will expose players to a whole new layer of gameplay: using vehicles, raiding enemy camps, protecting own camps, clearing towns of infested, securing buildings etc. Also, ammo, fuel, water, medicine should not spawn close to each other, so it should be economically justified to form a group, split to scavenge, then regroup and exchange the findings as compared to raiding a single location altogether (power should not be in numbers alone). Goodnight, sleepy head Logging off is an equivalent of sleeping. Players who fall asleep must realise that they are vulnerable when asleep. Normally, sleeping players disappear in 30 seconds. Players, who shot a gun within past 5 minutes, will disappear in 5 minutes after logoff. Wounded/bleeding/shocked players will disappear within 10 minutes. Finders keepers Backpacks and player stuff disappear with players. Stuff placed in tents/vehicles/lockers will stay in-game. Stuff placed anywhere else will be destroyed during daily server maintenance. Tents have no locks, so stuff can be stolen by anyone. Vehicles have no boot locks so stuff can be stolen from them but they do have ignition locks, so vehicles cannot be stolen. Lockers, you guessed it, have locks. To access a locker or to start a vehicle, you need the unique key (it’s 21st century, you can’t hotwire a modern car or military chopper). The key can be picked from the (dead body of the) owner. If a key hasn’t been used for too long, it’ll despawn and spawn in the corresponding lock, granting free access to the locker/vehicle to whoever finds it first. Buildings work like huge lockers and can store vehicles and stuff. But players need to fortify the buildings before they can be locked securely, which requires gathering a lot of scrap metal, wood and other supplies. Only organised groups can afford creating and maintaining (yes, they degrade and decay over time) secure buildings. Karma police There is no karma, no bandits, no friendlies, nothing of sorts. The only way to identify a person is their unique player name. You can 'tag' people you see on a scale from 'friendlies' to 'enemies' and share these records within your group. Access to strategic information on who is roughly who in your region is huge incentive for group play. Conclusion I think it is beneficial for everyone to start thinking in the direction of a stand-alone game, because Rocket said there will be one. The community should start discussing possible game design choices (single shard? trainable skills? character specialisation?) as early as possible. TL;DR 1. DayZ standalone should be played on a single huge server like EVE Online (the most hardcore space survival sandbox simulation of all MMO games). 2. To avoid building the biggest data center in the world, players will exist over a cluster of islands, each island supported by a single server. Travel between islands requires resources. 3. End-game is geared towards group play. ... 99. Discuss.

    A week into DayZ

Well I started playing on Friday the 13th I believe, the first day was spent trying to find a couple of friends and dying over and over again. I did a lot of reading watched a lot of videos and since then I have a little squad. Sometimes it's me on my own until a friend gets online. Most of the time it's two of us getting owned by groups of bandits. I won't kill anyone unarmed, I won't kill someone with a secondary or melee weapon unless it's "Jason with the bloody axe". Me and a friend were in the control tower in Balota Air Strip waiting there for a friend to join us from Elektro, so while we are keeping an eye out on things making sure bandits don't come our way. I go down and see Jason with an axe, I was on TS with the friend, I said "Rice is that you with an Axe?" he started squemaing, no wait SHOOT HIM. I said no, Jason continued eerily looking at me, then he came at me with his axe. Funny thing is, I had an AKM and M1911. I was like dafuq? Funny thing he returns 10 mins later this time trying to get rice who had a M16. Well since then, I've been all over the place, spent a fair bit of time first 3-4 days in Cherno/Electro, recently we have been roaming about having BBQ's and going to the NW airbase, NE airbase, Stary Sobor. We are learning to survive against the bandit snipers, alt f4ers. I've seen 3 range finders, a few Coytoe backpacks, 1 Night vision goggle we took from a couple of snipers in Stary Sobor, and an AS50. We did lose them 2 hours later in the NE airstrip to 3 guys, who were surprisingly fast at getting back there after spawning so well equipped... I don't usually snipe, but I'm the scout sniper/counter sniper at the moment with a DMR, trying to learn the whole mil dot/zeroing thing. Well if anyone wants to join me in playing and my lil squad, (good things happen with us). We move around a lot, mostly north of the southern cities, berezino, stary, nw airbase etc, we might occasionally go down to meet our respawned buddies, if they had good stuff we protect it for them or pick it up. We don't REALLY share food or drink, but say someone had an extra primary weapon in the pack for the team (in our tents) which we do. Someone had 4 water bottles etc, we share. If someone is low on health we hunt boars and cows and make like 16 steaks and split them. Nothing formal just friendly fun. We are based in Europe, me and a couple of others in the UK, friends in Norway, Finland, France, Holland. So if you are european, have teamspeak wish to join us, send me a message. :) Usually we are in groups of 2-5, might be alone sometimes playing very safe, the biggest squad when everyone's on at the same time (weekends perhaps) we had a squad of 9. We have a couple of vehicles, hopefully well hidden... a few tents spread around. We learn quickly, and think about the game. Luckily we have a couple of players with over 200 hours on DayZ, I think i've clocked up at least 6 hours a day the last week, I think one day I was on 8 hours and went in to work with no sleep!

Some toughts: Helicopters: they are one of the must funniest vehicles in the game when you do mainly PvP, i do admit that i had great moments with them on the private servers, BUT they disrupt the game on many levels. It's very hard to have a base camp at the moment, or even to save a single vehicle; but with the chop it is basically impossible. I would really like to discuss this before deciding to reintroduce back the helicopters, they doesn't really fit the mod. L84A2: i hoped for some days they really disappeared forever... but yesterday i found another one at an heli crash. What are we waiting to remove this thing from the game? This is OP, it's like cheating, stop finding excuses on realism and such.. when there's ppl running with hatchet you don't need to literally see trought the trees and foliage having animals and players highlithed in a brilliant white! It's like playing at "shoot at the duck".

What is it with American kids hacking?

how do you know its not UK kids hating US kids? eitherway... its fucking annoying. just got killed on a US server again. I have not been able to stay in ANY server for more than an hour without seeing some sign of hacking (hacked in vehicles, guns, people using both of those, nukes, server wide kill scripts, or my new favorite... teleported to a roof for execution. Sadly there is no talking to hackers. They suck at the game and don't care about being good at this game or any. It is all entertainment. Let them hack though, they will never learn to play a game correctly by hacking and as such will always suck at games. If they say it's just a game and they don't care, then good, we can play without them. Rocket... fuck your current plate of shit to do. Fix hackers.
  18. Hakultair

    Vehicles

Take note that any hacked vehicles also dissapear on a server restart. So if you happen to find a vbehicle that someone else hacked it'll dissapear on the next restart.
  19. Aftershok

    Vehicles

Vehicles only respawn when left unused for a week, or if they are destroyed. Sometimes servers can restart to an earlier point and so vehicles are rolled back to a different point on the map, however, vehicles get stolen A LOT even when far away from any city; many people take time to search forests (particularly in the north) for camps and vehicles. A standard server restart should not, however, remove your vehicles, although it can remove them until the next server restart occasionally.
  20. Gogster (DayZ)

    Vehicles

Sometimes they disappear because of a glitch and they could come back when the server restarts or when you log back in, or they may be gone forever due to a bug - such is life in a game still in development. There's also a chance that someone found your vehicles and made off with them.

dramaticly low fps compared to arma 2

Hm wel played arma2 online with 64 guys and no lagg either with vehicles flying around the whole map

    Vehicles

Hello! Well i'm new at the game and forum, and i have some doubts about vehicles... lets start! first, i'm sorry if someone already posted the same, i tryed to use the search but no topics poped out with those doubts.... well...i found 2 vehicles with my friends, an atv and a bus, we found a place very far from any city, almost in the wilderness and we left our vehicles there after saving then. when i logged today they are gone... my doubt is: when the server restarts all the vehicles just disappear or someone just stole it from us?! how often the vehicles respawn?! everyday? every week? do all servers have vehicles or the admins have the choice to put then in or out of the server when they are creating a new game? thanks for the patience and plz answer that, because if the vehicles just disappear when the servers restarts i don't see why i just keep searching then, since they are very hard to find, was the first vehicles i got since i started playing, over 2 weeks or 3 ago! thanks again !!! cya!
  23. Aftershok

    Vehicle Repairs with Spawns

All vehicles have to be repaired and refueled before they can be used. For a bus you'll need 4 wheels, fueltank parts, scrap metal and engine parts, as well as a jerry can to fill it up a bit.
  24. I generally play on EU/UK servers. Hacking is a problem, I see the odd chopper, get teleported from time to time, invisible people etc. But that's about once every 2 days on average. However, when I join a US server I see hacking almost every time without fail. Joined one earlier and there was someone bombing cherno, last night on one they had a chopper. Yesterday there was a team with semi auto nade launchers in elektro, after I got teleported there. It's like american kids have a sense of entitlement that they deserve to have vehicles or eq that isn't in game, or they just enjoy ruining it more than people from anywhere else. I could easily get some scripting going and get whatever I want, but I don't - because it's fucking lame. What's the point even playing if you're going to hack shit?

No Sir. I hate alt+f4'ers just as much. I just don't think that rocket's approach of solving the issue will work well. Like I said: I would hate it a lot to get in trouble for transporting loot from a car on server A to my tents on server B and from what I understand it is quite probable that things like that will happen when that logging stuff kicks in. I just did on the end of page 41 ;). So +1 on that. I agree in so far that I also think that fixing tents and vehicles should have higher priority than preventing people from dodging death. Cowards are cowards, the guy not getting the shot knows it and the alt+f4 deathdoger/ghoster knows just aswell that he simply is nothing but a cowardly scumbag that does not get that death is a part of the game and reacquiring your stuff is huge part of the fun. In contrast to that reappearing misplaced tents, tants loosing items and alle the other stuff regularly forces my squad and me to replace our camp or even switch servers. Yet I do not think that the priorities rocket takes will kill the mod. At this point seeing all the hype already created: I don't think anything (not even rocket quitting the project) could kill the mod.
