I think it is just that a lot of people have had their fill of games with vehicles with weapons hanging of them, they dont want dayz to take this direction. I know i dont :) Not saying it is unrealistic to be able to put a vehicle like this together when you are on a map that has military installations...i just think it would start to take away the feel of what dayz is. If things like this are implemented then of course people are going to clamour for more hardware as cars sit outside of Cherno or wherever just strafing away..what ? thats not gonna happen ? My ass. They will just be pvp tools and that is all, of course you will be able to kill zeds with it..but who the hell is gonna waste the ammo on them ? Very few. It will be like watching Black Hawk down with a side order of Zombieland. Not that i wouldnt want to watch that movie..i just dont want to play it.:) -
So the vehicles will never appear unless their "respawn timer" hits 0, and the server is restarted? They won't appear out of the blue once the timer hits 0?

More like scooters. You're not thinking Chernarussian enough. Moot point, though, because adding vehicles is neither a priority nor would fix the current scarcity.

I'd agree with more small vehicles, More dirt bikes and pedal bikes. Dirt bikes aren't top priority if you think of the amount of cars trying to leave chernarus since you cant pile your stuff into a dirt bike like you can a car.

Why are people SOOOO against Military gear and PVP? Its a survival game I got it, you guys said it a million times. What's your idea of survival? Everyone being lovey-dovey friends? Killing zombies with their pure friendship? No, PVP is part of survival. Its should be supported but have its pro's and con's. And people's logic against armed vehicles? You keep saying "No armored vehicles!", I never suggested armored vehicles. I suggested technicals, MG UAZ's, and Humvees with M240's that have exposed gunners. They are not bulletproof, they are not armored, and they are by NO MEANS tanks. These Car's MG's would also need ammo boxes that would be rare, so it wouldn't be possible to camp the shore with seemingly unlimited MG ammo, you would have to be conservative with ammo as always. And to people saying armed vehicles, and even military gear in general, is "unrealistic" are ,honestly, fucking morons. How is assault rifles, snipers, combat shotguns, LMG's, and SMG's and armed vehicles being present in an eastern european region with multiple military installations "unrealistic"? Like I implied, its because some people are mad that the game isn't full of completely trusting, generous carebears. Wanting that in a "zombie-survival" game? THAT is unrealistic. PVP and banditry have their place, deal with it, if you keep getting killed by it (I have MANY times), just deal with it. -

I don't mind the hoarding, because now I have started searching for places on the map that would make good hiding spots for vehicles, crannies in between rocks, groves of trees, one thing that needs to be done is the edge of the map needs to be cut off, you should not be able to hide vehicles out there, not sure if you still can, it would also fix the problem of someone teleporting me 10 miles out into the ocean...

the server has to restart for vehicles to appear, they don't spawn like loot, they have to initialize on server startup

If all the known vehicle spawns are empty on a server then clan(s) have probably already got them. Once a vehicle has been taken it will not spawn there again unless it's destroyed or despawns due to inactivity (approximately 7 days). People usually hide vehicles more North to avoid the high traffic areas between Cherno, Elektro, and Stary Sobor. I've come across several hidden vehicles North of Petrovka in the forest and along the entire width of the map to Pobeda Dam. Hope this helps. :) -
Vehicles don't need to be more common, but something needs to be done to discourage or disallow the current degree of hoarding. No one enjoys it like this, not even the people with 15 vehicles to rub together and no need to use more than three of them. Of course, I don't know what should be done, and once again, more important things...

So, I only recently started playing Day Z, about a week ago. After some trouble trying to get it started, I finally got it to work. Very well, in fact. I have had no further problems until today's update. Today, I checked for updates, and installed beta patch 95389. Then I launched the game, and as you may imagine, I tried to join a server. But what is this? I was kicked? Because my ping was too high? But it says the auto-kick only goes up to 175, and in the browser, this server showed a ping of 16? This happened on every subsequent server I tried. I have come to a conclusion, and it is that the server is kicking me because of high ping, but high ping that the server is causing. In the first few moments of joining, my computer gets bombarded with information about the game; what time it is, weather conditions, where I am on the map, what my inventory is, the location of every single entity that the server is tracking (other players, vehicles, any zombies in the area), and returns fire with all the information that the server needs from my computer. I don't have the fastest internet, only 3MB/s, so my bandwidth tops out pretty easily, even though I know that I can play with much lower pings than would justify a kick. Once I'm all loaded in, which isn't a short process, I generally have a ping between 20 and 70ms. I don't know if anybody else is having this problem. My suggested solution is either raising the ping cap (which I know is mostly up to the server owner, not the devs), or waiting a little while, maybe a minute, for the ping to stabilize before kicking. I would ask for longer than a minute, as loading can take up to about two, but I realize that that would entirely defeat the purpose of the limiter. I really enjoy playing the game, and I really appreciate that it's free. I'd just like to be able to continue playing. Hope my voice is heard!

Mad-Max style cusomized cars would spring up all over the place after the apocalypse given that working parts would become scarce. I am sure eventually some survivors would mount weapons on their vehicles and armor to defend against zombie hordes, too bad it would mostly be used for PVP in DayZ. It's a good idea, but they would need to take a lot more work to fix than normal vehicles. Edit: For future "standalone" speculation, modular vehicle customization? Customizing a bike with a minigun? Yes please! Also, bus with flamethrowers. -
vehicles are unrealistically too rare. Besides you dont keep them. They stay in their servers anyways. We arent asking to make them super common, just make them more of a factor in realistic terms.

I would only support it if you could find the unarmed variant in the wild (if you cannot already). You would then have to find an m240 or equivalent weapon and then attach it. This would keep the sense that you are cobbling these vehicles together. If the weapon is not in the world a junk version could be added that only works when attached to said vehicle. -
I have only found a bicycle, two actually, and me and my team quite enjoy them, we search for cars alot and have yet to even see one, except for the guy in the jeep that ran my friend over right when he started the game for the first time. That being said, vehicles are rare, I like it that way, that means having one is that much more enjoyable(only had a bike but I can imagine), and losing it is that much more depressing. I love this game because it toys with my emotions like no other. Leave it the way it is I say.

After a lot of struggle, pain, leaving ppl, i give you this answer which costs us a lot of time at DE 10 to figure out and/or get confirmed by the Devs: - Tents and Vehicles dis- and reappear sometimes after restart - its a known DayZ bug (confirmed by Devs!) and [our server...] DE10 isnt the reason for it... see post #268 - Tents appear to be empty or stay empty after restart - also a known DayZ bug but with a possible workaround... see post #291, and give him your Beans! I am additionally sure this happend to US 10 too. -

The servers were hit with a DDoS before and after a beta update on the servers. There's a possibility that things didn't load from the hive properly. Keep in mind, tents and vehicles are stored in the master database. These are not stored locally on US 10 or US 870. I'll perform a restart on US 10 to see what comes back, but I can't be responsible if those objects don't come back. With this being an alpha, things like this can happen. I doubt a DDoS attack on our server would affect what was already saved on the hive though. Things attempted to be saved during the event, I could understand not getting through. -
First off, I don't intend for this to be a thread to argue over what should be done about the new Arma 2 update that is affecting DayZ. I just want to how you my perspective, obviously. The change to the Enfield seems somewhat off, but maybe it is for the better. I do not use the gun that often, but if i find tons of ammo for it, then yea i might give it a go for the hell of it. Killing players with 1 bullet makes sense to me, since it is firing a .303 round, which isn't a small round. I understand that realism isn't always sought after, but this mod does base off of the mil sim. The best thing about the Lee was that you can find it nearly anywhere! Most people drop them, so you find em at markets, fire stations, military tents, etc. and with plenty ammo. Also, being the the anti-sniper weapon available at the start of the game, makes it ideal for unarmed characters. For the Enfield, I don't know what the plan on doing, whether buffing it back up or keeping it the same. It doesn't affect my gameplay style in the slightest. The pistols seem to cause the most commotion from the community. For these, I really don't stand on either side for they are just secondaries. They all fit their individual roles, and do them well. Sniping? Hopefully you find an M9 SD if you want to be quieter, especially if you attract zombies. Clip size? Give the G17 or normal M9 a go, again, if you can find them. Having trouble finding ammo? Maybe try the Makarov since the ammo is literally, EVERYWHERE. It may not be a PVP weapon, but if you have good aim on zombies, then it's not bad at all. The .45's seem to be the biggest concern. Personally, i would like to see them be 2 hit kills on zombies and 1-2 on humans as well. Headshots are still OHK, of course. The reason I think it should 2HK zeds is because they are undead! Sure, they are weaker than survivors, but the reason why they are lethal to people is because the hit those vital body parts that zombies don't need! All kinds of zombies in movies and other games walk around with no arms or legs, and none of their organs have a meaning, so to me, 2 shots seems appropriate. Again, just how i think of it. I also see people post things like, "Too many weapons with the same damage, not much variety." Well, to me, if they shoot the same caliber, then they very well should do the same damage. Sure, IRL one gun might have faster velocity, but i don't think the Arma engine has all those specifics. And if the engine does, please tell me because I'm not saying I know the engine in and out. I have no clue haha. But the 9mm's should do the same damage. Maybe the SMG's should do like 300-600 more damage because they are stronger guns, but again, they fire the same round. For the shotguns, pellets and slugs should have different damage values. Pellets should be pretty deadly within their range, And slugs should be above rifles for damage, but slightly IMO. I do not use these guns much either, so I don't have as much to say. Going by my thought of the bullet being shot, I know slugs aren't the smallest rounds, or the biggest. As long as they keep them usable, it's fine by me. Ak's being nerfed doesn't seem too bad. The only reason i see for this is being able to find them quiet easily, unlike the M4's and M16's. It gives full a reason now if you are close enough. I don't see this affecting gameplay that much, because chances are you will kill the other player if you see them first. And for the other rifles not being nerfed, i don't see why the sniper rifles should receive one. They all shoot at least a 7.62x51 if I remember correctly. To the leg you should survive, but a body shot would be hard to recover from. And the .50's should not even matter. I mean, c'mon! It's a gun designed to shoot through vehicles. Anywhere on the body should be a kill, because you would most likely die from blood loss anyway. I do not see any of those guns getting a nerf ever. Please let me know if I am wrong about anything i posted. And again, not trying to start arguments, this i just the way i think about the nerfs. Sorry if I had grammatical errors, or used too many commas because i usually do lol. If I missed anything let me know!

[Posted this in the gallery and it got ignored, shame that using 2 months preparing something gets you less comments than a video where a guy shoots another guy with a sniper rifle] Hello all. Couple of months ago I started planning on making a guide series to DayZ, helping new people to get started. Topics I will cover will pretty much cover anything that isn't too advanced (I doubt I will take time going through every weapon etc, I won't do this in that much detail as I find that somewhat unnecessary). What I will cover are vehicles (again, basics, I won't take everything for a ride), navigating, fighting, first aid, player interactions etc. Parts will be added as I get them done. This isn't my first rodeo either, I've been doing videos for some years now. Quality should be as such, even though I'm not particularly proud of the editing of the first part - it'll have to do though. Why? Well, the guides that I had glanced through were shit to be quite honest, usually some guy improvising live over a footage, not really taking the time to produce something half way decent. Also getting started was bit of an hassle for me and it'll be more of that now that people can't use in game comms to get help on the spot from more experienced players. Thanks and have fun.

Sorry mate, mod is in alpha state. Sometimes after restart all tents and vehicles suddenly vanish and we need to restart it few times more to get them all back. I wish things were different... Let's just wait till it's all get polished. P.S. Normally I warn players before restart but after new patch Battleye doesn't like me anymore and kicking me out if I try to log in as admin in game. Glad that you decided to play on LU39, feel free to PM me or contact any 30+/- members if you experiencing any issues. Not all of them speak English though, but most do. -
The point is... I have been playing for quite the while now with absolutely no vehicles ever spotted by me or my team. It would be a cool objective to fix a car if we could atleast find one. As someone mentioned above, it is unrealistic that most of the cars on the map are completely demolished while only a few vehicles can actually be fixed. Just asking that they add some more vehicles to make things more realistic. Right now Im going to guess that 1 person finds a car and then uses it to find all the other cars and then they all disapear somewhere. Its stupid.

i coulnd't resist, i had to make an announcement. By the way, i also added a 'Known Issue' part on the first Post so ppl don't have to read the whole 15 Pages to find this posts. If you have additional stuff to add, just tell me. 27.07.2012 - Serverupdate - Implemented a Auto-Restart mechanism which restarts the Server every 6 hour (0,6,12,18,24 o'clock GMT+1/German Time). - The Auto-Restart mechanism will NOT warn you before the Server restarts! So keep an eye on the Time. Feature will be implemented later. - Lobby Kicking is deactivated for now, has something to to how i restart the Server, but will be used later again. - Also the empty Tent miracle was solved, by Corvax... see his post #291 - A Personal Note: My ISP has finally managed to restore my Internet Connection, i am Online again :D yehaa. I type when i'm restarting my server manualy. I give 5 mins for people to save vehicles and tents. But my scheduled restarts? Nothing I can do about, Except put the motd message stating server restart times.
