If you belong to a clan, or have been playing this game for a while, you're probably pretty good at it. You likely have neat gadgets like M4's, NVG, and who knows what kind of vehicles. What else is there to do? Dayz has no ultimate goal, nothing to stay fighting for. Right now, the technical "goal" is to survive, but for an apocalypse, it seems a little easy to just stay alive. I'm sure Rocket and his buddies are working on a few now, but there should be more detail to the survival element of the game. I'm referring to a variety of ways to do things like eat or drink. In stead of just beans and steak, have wild barriers and apple trees. meat will be a luxury, and usually only found through hunting wild animals. and I mean real hunting, not running up to a boar and hitting it with a hatchet :| . Maybe you risk getting sick if you drink lake water, but it's safe when you boil it (over a fire). Rain is another way to obtain water, because let's face it, pop and canteens are very basic, as well as just beans and meat. We need Dayz to be about something to reach for. "Something" can be anything from Reaching the top of the leader boards, to finding a cure for the disease (which is just something of the top of my head). Also, leader boards need to be changed. Right now they're based off of zombie kills, it should be based off of who is alive the longest. The leader boards should also have top three longest lived survivors on that server (kind of like top score sort of thing). Make the leader boards more desirable, and prominent. If there ever is a goal that "wins the game", (which there probably won't be) make it so difficult to accomplish that nearly half the people in the server would need to work together to do it. Right now, it's too easy. The reason I made this topic is because I'm sitting at my camp with everything I could want and I'm thinking "what now". Ideas? feed back?

We'll again I don't know if this has come up before... checked the forum so. OK, so here we go: Imagine, you come across a tent. You check it for loot and you find yourself in need of a blood bag. Now here it comes, how cool would it be that you would be able to leave a note in the tent and leave a message like: “Borrowed a blood bag, left a can of beans for you” or “If I were you, I’d get the f*ck out of here because I’m camping out here now” I personally think it would be a fun feature to the game; maybe it can be acquired after finding an item like, a notebook? Or something alike. What do you guys think about this? I’d like some feedback on this and if some players like this maybe we can get Rocket’s attention on this because I’d really like to see this in the game :D ADDED: Messageboard in or around cities that can be used to put up notes, like bounties and warnings for example! -idea thanks to Hulahuga! Thanks! ---------EDIT------------ Ok it seems like this idea has come up before in the idea of: chalk http://dayzmod.com/f...ther-survivors/ messages http://dayzmod.com/f...leave-messages/ but in this way people would just be polluting the world in my opinion. With a notebook it would be limited to the ability to create a "note" as a item that can be dropped in tents or vehicles. And to read it you'd have to put it in you inventory, right click and "read note". Like I said, i'd like to see this ingame though I have no Idea of how hard such a feature could be to implement.

Vehicle and tents gone qustion
ballzfernando replied to chombers's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No need to bump as he answered your question. As frustrating as it is you will need to wait till the next server restart for your tents and vehicles to come back -
DMR 2-shot kills people over distance, but it fires pretty rapidly and you can usually get the two shots needed to kill off in around a second. Ammo is a lot more common than the AS50/M107. You can use the NVG goggles with the DMR though. AS50/M107 1-shot kills people and disables vehicles if you hit a vital part. They're extremely loud though so if you're not going for those long 1Km+ shots then you're gonna have to be ready for zombies. It's also a lot bigger than the DMR. AS50/M107 however can zero in on targets, making sniping a lot easier. The DMR has two set zooms/zeros that you have to figure out as you use it. You just have to choose which weapon suits your playstyle more.

Do you ever go back south after you get well-geared and why?

meet friends, check indu. spawns, sweep for supplies (hospitals), find vehicles. Really pends what's on the agenda for the day. -
I'm thinking it could be a good idea to turn DayZ into an ArmA 3 Expansion, something costing an extra $15 or something, instead of calling it a... mod, it could be something official that Bohemia can market and advertise. And 100% or near of the money made from the Expansion could be given directly to Rocket and his team, as DayZ would undoubtedly with its reputation give ArmA 3 a lot of sales, just as it did for ArmA 2, that got the attention of Bohemia for sure. And made them quite a bit of money. That's probably the easier option, almost like becoming a standalone game within another game, a step up from a mod, and eliminating the costs of getting an engine officially for a fully standalone, just a paid mod really. And with Rocket actually getting money for DayZ through sales, he can bring in people and pay them to dedicate some of their time on different areas of the game to tailor things to DayZ, get mappers to modify ArmA 3 maps etc... I think he had some volunteers come in an do animation for him and such which was awesome, but not everyone is going to offer their time and expertise for free. Standalone would be great, but I'd guess it would come with a lot of startup costs. ArmA 3 in whatever way it is used, offers 99% of the content off the bat, the engine, weapons, vehicles, physics, models etc... Then DayZ can take those and just expand on them, like an expansion :D And if was given the title of an Expansion, with help from Bohemia it would probably have a proper installer, ArmA 3 would be prepared to embrace DayZ, instead of as a mod needing to pretty much plant the game into the game files and do a bunch of crap to get things working, it would be properly recognized and easily installed into the game. It took a lot of faffing around to get DayZ working lets be honest... and to go back to normal ArmA 2 it involves more faffing around to stop DayZ automatically running. Expansion > Mod. Or standalone, but you know, that's a different thing altogether.

DayZ Server Suite Alpha 1.0.3

Plus, the restart of the mission tends to kill vehicles/tents if you don't do it twice. Not sure why. -
EVERYBODY HACKING, ON EVERY SERVER!
Uncle Gapey replied to thrasher (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
BobaFett's trainer. It is what absolutely ruined Diablo I and then Diablo II when he released an updated version for that. I quit playing D2 after my lvl 80-something hardcore sorc (if you die, you die - no tents or vehicles to save your gear) was killed by a lvl 7 Druid right outside of town. His lvl 7 raven hit me once. Ironically, the Arma2 engine fucks up in the exact same way the Diablo engines did years and years ago - the code trusts the client. Really, really stupid. Hax will happen anyway, but when this associate-in-game-design mistake is made it really opens the door for the shit storm. Arma2 took it a step further and allows any client to run scripts that affect the entire connected populus of a server. Who thought that would be a good idea? Honestly? Please don't say the attachment line. Pretty please. It's such a cop-out excuse for problems that aren't being addressed. To me, "let go of any attachment" means, "nobody gives a shit about trying to fix these game-breaking issues." It's the same as saying, "dude, this is an alpha". I understand this isn't a finished product. I've got unfinished coding projects of my own, but believe you me if one of them had a flaw that fucked people out of hours and hours of their time, I'd be fixing that issue first. I'd at least acknowledge the presence of the issue and give status updates on getting it fixed. Ermagerd, another reddit/4chan child. Your signature clearly defines the motivation for your "just ignore the hax or go away" stance. Making oneself heard doesn't solve anything, but one combined with many others will at the very least command additional attention to the issue. Complaints can definitely be constructive, especially in the Cheat Reporting forum, where we are now. Posts such as yours quoted above define worthless. -

Tired of people complaining!
Tyranus The Malevolent replied to Tyranus The Malevolent's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hehe agreed. I think its hilarious when people complain about getting killed at the NW airfield.... its like come on really? You havent read forums enough to realize to just stay away from there? heh. It's getting pretty damn hard to find vehicles. I imagine its the clans just hoarding. Haha I know im just complaining in this forum.. Ironic... but I'm tired of all the damn clan posts on here.. Literally everyone needs the group mentality... Can't people just solo or depend on themselves? I'm all for small groups, but I'll never be a clan person. -
We took those vehicles good sir. The mystery machine was snatched awhile ago, same with the v3s. however someone stole our v3s not long after we took it. We did reaquirre the v3s last night though. Hopefully now you know who to vent your rage towards good sir. I look forward to being shot in the back of the head by you or your friends at a later date! good day sir.

sticky for "found hacked items, now what" for admin
gwbrewer replied to gwbrewer's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Reset doesn't do it.. I ran over the tents and they where unclickable, i then rebooted and stopped and started the server the tents came back with the items still in them. The vehicles were only able to destroy by driving them into the water.. Once such self healing vehicle I just drove off the map because I was nowhere near the water. I'd love to know exactly how to remove items from the game that are found to be hacked.. Even if it means I have to power off the server for x amount of days. I have a zero tolerence rule for hacks on my server. -
DE7 Huge Camp on Skalisty Island! Raid/Destroy it! (pics inside)
MajPayne21 replied to Island_Man's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
And then after a full day of building a sweet structure, a hacker logs on and puts 12 satchels in it. My group had a heli and several vehicles in a camp, and someone logged in, teleported straight to the heli, and then tried to do a loop. At the top of the loop, he jumped out and nose-dived the chopper into our camp, blowing up everything in it. While that's "funny," I suppose, it really sucks that hours and days of legitimate effort can be undone by one jackass who thinks it's hilarious to ruin other people's play. I'm getting apathetic about trying to make anything even semi-permanent since idiot script kiddies can just undo everything at the drop of a hat. It seems like having a vehicle makes your camp more of a target for hackers than anything else. I haven't died to a legitimate player in weeks; it's either been invisible hackers with satchels or accidentally getting shot by a teammate. -
If you server hop with server-side location system, you spawn at the coast. If you combat DC, you cannot relocate to a more advantageous spot with the help of a different server. Currently, the only thing that ties you to a server is the vehicles and tents, and the vehicles are hoarded by close-knit private groups on every server. Unless you play this game with friends you made prior, you are on your own. And your actions are without consequence because of your anonymity. This is why we have shoot on sight deathmatch. What this game is missing is community. Private hives have a community (and better anti-cheat protection as an added bonus). Why? Because you are tied to a single server and because side-channel is enabled. Community is good because your actions will have consequences. If you are an asshole you will get called out. If you are nice it won't go unnoticed, people will trust you more. Your name will have a reputation among your peers, your words will have more impact. If you want to switch server with server-side positions you will keep your gear, but you will lose the trust or notoriety you built up and the security of knowing who's a bandit and who's not, and you will have to battle the new server's Bean Coastguard in order to get to safety. And believe me, they will be after more than your beans knowing that you might be fully geared out from another server. Heck, you'll probably only be able to safely switch servers under the cover of night, giving time of day meaningful purpose while we are at it.

Per Wikipedia: The groundhog (Marmota monax), also known as a woodchuck, whistle-pig, or in some areas as a land-beaver, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots. I was just standing at my office window and I noticed a whistle pig, as they are called in my home state, hanging out in the neighbor's yard scavenging for edibles in the flowerbed. I opened the window to shoo it away and it went perfectly still. Stopped chewing. Perked up and it could have been a lawn ornament for how still it was. Instead of shouting I watched it and it went back to nibbling and grabbing leaves. Then it stopped again totally still, perked up. Not even chewing. Then back to it. I watched it for 5 minutes repeat this process - every 5 seconds of eating separated by 5 seconds of complete and utter stillness; and, maybe it's only because I've been playing so ever-loving much of this game lately, but it immediately reminded me of DayZ. An animal that lives its life constantly under threat of death from terrors known and unseen; humans, all manner of animals ground-based and airborne, motor vehicles, insects, farming equipment, poisons, natural disaster - every moment of every day of your short life fearing a painful and untimely demise. That's what it's like to be a groundhog. And here he was gathering supplies with precisely the kind of careful precision that I apply in DayZ. Not brute force, guns-blazing, grab it all and blast the windows out, but methodical. First, an exit strategy. Where's the nearest cover and what's the shortest route? Okay, take a nibble then stop. Wait patiently. Listen for gunshots or footsteps or that special shuffle shuffle of nipples on pavement. Check the doors. Communicate. Okay, take a nibble stop. Check the treeline. Check the barn door. Check the back room for people server hopping. Communicate. Nibble, nibble stop. Was that a gunshot okay get low. Listen. Which direction, how far. Watch the zombies they're the key. Can I get away or do I take up a strategic point and wait? It's a method that has served me well and it seems to work for the whistle pigs. If you're having trouble staying alive in DayZ in the face of all you meet try to channel the groundhog. Slow down, plan ahead, be patient and above all be aware. Check, double check and triple check. With a friend you can sextuple check. Footsteps are loud. Gunshots are loud. Angry zombies are loud and for people who hunt survivors they are like giant dinner bells with feet. Follow the zombies and find the beans. Your beans. That's the world you live in now. You're a groundhog now. Be the groundhog. Groundhogs raised in captivity can be socialized relatively easily; however, their aggressive nature can pose problems. Doug Schwartz, a zookeeper and groundhog trainer at the Staten Island Zoo, has been quoted as saying "They’re known for their aggression, so you’re starting from a hard place. [Their] natural impulse is to kill ’em all and let God sort ’em out. You have to work to produce the sweet and cuddly."

Helicopters should be taken away forever
Greenshift replied to Dickhat's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree they should be totally removed. I am not a fan of them and at times i'm frustrated with vehicles but I have been using two of them so to have non glitchy storage since our tents seem to either not work or be stuck on the contents they have had since the owner died. -
Sometimes tents and vehicles don't appear after a server restart. They should reappear after a another restart.

DE7 Huge Camp on Skalisty Island! Raid/Destroy it! (pics inside)
athrins replied to Island_Man's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Of all things people dupe, why not sandbags and other creative tools to help build something actually creative? People just dupe the lame stuff like high-end military equipment. How does that make the game more interesting? Everyone complains about the lack of tools to do stuff in this sandbox but can't seem to take their eyes off of the gear. It's all about the gear. Dupe tools instead. Build a big ass fort and people would stop objecting to the duping as much. This is what Rocket means when he says we should make our own rules and police the world with our own creative minds. He must be sighing at the mindless obsession for the gear. If we want to make the game fun, we have to do the right things. 1. Set up a couple of tents. 2. Dupe nothing but toolboxes, entrenching tools, sandbags, wire and tank traps. 3. Build a big fucking structure. 4. Organize a community to maintain order and structure within the 'facility'. 5. Take strike teams out to travel and explore. 6. Collect and repair vehicles. 7. Collect supplies, tools and everything else needed and avoid duping that shit. 8. ???? 9. Enjoy a unique, player-driven experience in this sandbox. Edit: Not that I wanna promote duping, but who's gonna stop players from doing what they are already doing anyway? Duping sandbags for example could even result in something good; like Rocket taking note of what adds to the game (provided he didn't expect it). Sandbags are way too rare in my experience. I have yet to loot a single one in over 200h gameplay. -
This happens, I GUESS when there is some sort of update or major change to the hive, all vehicles and tents disappear. But when the server is restarted after the update, they are once again loaded.

What area would you secure and make a base out of?
Deuzerre replied to lugaru's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The small castle of Zub, just south of Vyshnoye, has a closeby water supply, and a town to raid for food & a fuel tank. There is a steep hillside in the west that could be covered quite easily, and the rest is more or less open ground. Easy to set defences and see groups approaching, and quite easy to reach by vehicle. This one is head on my list. Stalisty Island (South east) could be interesting, but it's too far from ressources like water and food to keep a population. There would be a need for a smaller outpost in Kamyshovo for fuel for the boats, but it's too easy to shoot from the hills down on the town. The small castle of Rog (Just above Kamyshovo) could offer good enough protection, with a lake a klick down the hill. The mountain is steep enough for people to have trouble reaching it when not using the "Road", and there are a few observation posts, but it's surrounded by a forest so hard to see people approaching (though easy to get out of it, and unsnipable). It's possible to reach it with vehicles, so just a few tank traps should be enough to prevent too daring raids. Pusta has a water pump and no way to sneak on it with ease, and a counter sniper would be needed to cover the hill above. It's quite close from Cherno and Elektro hotsports though, meaing many people would probably be willing to take the risk of an assault. But then, they'd have to regroup, and that's cool. The castle in Black mountain is probably the best "Big" castle, quite close to a town with a market and the airstrip, but the closest reliable water supply is the dangerously empty area of Gvozdno with it's lake and realy open spaces. The view from the top tower is magnificent though. -
Fire Extinguisher... check. Fire Suit... check. Flame Retardant Gel... check. 911 on Speed Dial... check. With so much hacking and item duplication exploits/bugs goings on, how about a complete item wipe, to include tents and vehicles, as well as a fresh character restart each time a new version of the DayZ Alpha is distributed? After all, this is an Alpha version of DayZ. Could start doing this with 1.7.2.5...

Why are cars so rare in Chernarus?
w_epley replied to kurtthecobain's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I must disagree about the admins locking the servers. I'm sure some turds do, and should be blacked. The thing about "clans" is Organization and numbers. I had 10 people to spread across the map and seek out vehicles and car parts. If you are looking at vehicle spawns for vehicles you are most likely Not going to find them. In a serious non trolling matter, may I suggest you comb the western and northern borders of the map? You are much more likely to find all sorts of goodies there. You're welcome. -
Vehicles, from my experience, can still perform with a red engine indicator. It is highly Un-recommended, because the slightest bump could blow up the vehicle, and you inside of it. Just a tip: Do not drive vehicles on bridges or docks, both of them are very glitchy, and you could flip for no apparent reason.

Server restart bug, when the server restarts if it gets restarted "too fast" IE: people join really quickly after it comes right back up it causes tents/vehicles not to load up for some reason. Happens from time to time on the home server I play on. Just have to wait until next server restart for them to reappear. As for your missing ATVs check the area around where you last saved them. I had mine show up a week later after it vanished after a server restart 200m from where I saved it.

hey all, so im 25, from the UK and need some people to team up with, im tired of being a lone survivor out in this tough world, so im after a group to join or others to form a group who wish to join me. my goals are simple, and thats to find and build a base of operations, find and restore vehicles, fill our base with supplies. maybe in the future perform more tasks as the game grows, but for now i think thats all. must have a mic for communication, my steam and skype name is lem1winks. look forward to hearing from you
