At the time of incident, my buddy was getting a refuel run accomplished on his Huey. I was about 1.5 klicks out en route to him. I had just been to the same refuel station to fill up my UAZ and properly cleared the area. He suddenly comes over comms, "I just lost the heli! Three guys came out of nowhere and killed me." Shocked that this could have happened a few minutes after I had just been in the same area mere minutes ago, I continue forward, determined to damage the chopper as much as I can before they can get away with it. During the next 300-400 meter run (to which I was at about 1.1 klicks out with a mountain still between him and me), he informs me that they literally appeared on top of him. As the thought of hackers began to cross my mind, I am suddenly shot from behind from 5-10 meters away. Killed. Mind you, I had just turned my head behind me to check my back at the instance of my death and saw them pop out of nowhere, just like he said. Incident report follows: @0543 CST on US 1618 - Teleporting to vehicles/personnel then killing the users. [GHT]KuSa- [GHT]Ps3PAd [GHT]beuldak-098 There is also a fourth member to their little circlejerk group. Hanwoo, Haewoo, or something to that effect. He was not online at the time of incident, therefore I cannot accuse him. Suspect, yes, however.

I was thinking about a solution for this and I think that making tents "mechanic" more like vehicles could solve many problems. Right now there is fixed number of every vehicle type on a server. I'm pretty sure its because they are not created during play, but are "placed" while the mission is initialized. So basicly they are placed in mission editor on their spawns and every time server restarts they appear there - if they are saved in the hive then they are immediately "teleported", changed and filled with saved stuff. In the other words an every vehicle is unique. On the other hand tents not exist before they are created (out of thin air). Every time a tent is pitched its created via a arma2 scripting command as a new entity and if you pack it up and set it up again its not the same tent. So how about making tents like vehicles? I mean make a limited number (100?) of tents per server, spawning in certain location. You would be able to pack them up and set up, but they would be "moved" not "created" - So its like: you find a tent and pack it up (the tent is teleported 10 meters below the ground and a packed tent is added to your inventory), you go somewhere and pitch up the tent (a packed tent dissapears from inventory and the orginal tent is teleported form his "grave" to new location). I know it wont prevent duping but limit it at least to some extent. There will be less tents (so less place to keep stuff) and they won't be duped and more valuable. Also no more problems with tents showing up in places where they were disassambled previously. I suspect they would be more relaible in terms of keeping items too.

DE10 - Server Thread <(^-^<) <(^-^)> (>^-^)>
Trowa replied to caspar's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
No vehicles on the server at the 11am restart. -
I guarantee I wasn't a part of what went down, if you could do like The_Weasel said, maybe someone can clear this up for you. Like I said, we had 2 vehicles with us, a bus and car, guy in helicopter came shooting at us, we got out of our vehicles, my friend died, and as I started shooting at the helicopter everyone got teleported to the shore... I have no knowledge on any type of cheating in the game.

maybe they should stop giving free accounts to be "given away" to streamers, who just give them to their friends under a bunch of different names, so they can hack on free accounts without worrying about their 30 dollars why do you need to be giving away accounts anyways at this point? not gonna name any names... but... if you see a streamer who dies... then his stream goes down, and 20mins its back up and hes geared and has vehicles again... over and over.. thats not just luck, hes doing it so the people watching stay interested, as nobody cares to watch a streamer cautiously creep around looking for a can of beans, they wanna see a streamer pvping with their pals... so, lets stop giving away accounts to streamers, they dont need them, its a dumb bonus incentive

Vehicles shouldn't be rare. Let the experiment continu.
freak367 replied to daedrick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Vehicles need to become less rare in general, they are overly rare right now without any reason for it, they aren't THAT gamechanging. Pretty much every server has had groups collecting all of the vehicles and hiding them in the forest, so 90% of survivors never experience them. Up until 2 days ago when I found a stashed bus, anyone watching the 30 days of this life and all previous lives of mine wouldn't know that vehicles were even in DayZ. I don't see what would be so bad about having a bigger supply of vehicles, or having a short-ish respawn on them. And throwing another 30 or so instantly workable vehicles across Chernarus. The downsides of being a massive loud target are still there when in a vehicle, so they would still be risky. It would just be good for more lone survivors to experience them. Also, Bicycles should be considerably more abundant, every town should have 1 or 2 Bicycles, it makes sense, virtually every home has a Bicycle, they should be one of the most common 'vehicles', quiet, but they leave you unprotected and have limited or no storage space. (never seen one so I have no idea if you can store crap in them) -
i guess he was talking about hiding cars our of the map in debug zones e.t.c. Not just finding a good place to hide a car on the actual map. No problems if they are able to hide it inside the map, but ruining the game with using glitches and metagaming techniques is not so clever idea. When I say they hide vehicles outside, I mean it. It is not my guess. Its was 7 of us looking for any transpire. We all had GPS. Each person too one map sqaure (100m2). We started in SW part of the map (near Kamenka) and moved north in a straight line, looking under everystone. Everyone had binoculars. After reaching North of the map we turned East. So basically we searched every possible non-coastal part of the map and everything we found was an Old Bike. I was so grateful to the person who was brave enough to keep it at his own camp inside the map region I didnt even touch his belongings and this bike. I'm alright with going on foot, but its funny and sad people've hidden all the car on the server I play at out of the map region. I guess they just dont get the whole idea of this game. But well meh. This is still an alfa. In the end of the day, if this project continues its development most part of such blatant exploits will be gone. I hope :)

Everyone must have seen maps of vehicle spawns. Now, when DayZ is popular, many people know the spawn points of different cars. Because of this cars are now nearly impossible to find. Even a month ago it was much easier. For now all the cars are out of the map, hidden by large clans. I know about cleanups and respawning the cars outside of the map. But think: Ander said about despawning the cars outside of the map AFTER THEY ARE UNUSED FOR 24h! In every clan there is a lot of people which are online every day. They will make a system where members, in turn, will use all cars every day. Maybe not really use, just sit in, drive 1m, save car and go away. They will not let the cars respawn. For now the only threat to these camps are guys spawned in the wilderness, which can occasionally find a camp. Even if the cars are respawned, they will be picked up at the same moment, because a lot of people come and check the spawns nearly constantly. So, my idea is simple. I dunno why there are so many destroyed cars in villages. But if so, let's continue the logic! With military vehicles it's already working, for example, spawning them at Black Lake. Why not to spawn civil cars in the same manner? Imagine: a tractor is waiting for his driver Petrovich near an old barn next to the road, or a race bike standing on a dirt road deep in the hills... More cars should be spawned in cities, so it will be more challenging to go there. Every newbie knows: DONT GO TO CHERNO AND ELEKTRO! THERE YOU WILL CATCH A BULLET! So campers are bored... :) Seriously, by all logics, a car might have survived all the shit in a backyard of a house or at a filling station... Why not? Cities will become hotzones again, and people will unite to go there together. Military vehicles should be spawned where now, and, with quite little chance, at the outskirts of any settlement. They should also spawn at the cities' firestations. Also I suggest a new type of vehicle for the supermarkets - Gazel. That will be realistic, because such cars bring in merchandise there IRL. Also, thats a Russian vehicle, it means realism of its location too. This car should serve as a movable storage, capacity 100/15/10, passabilty - simular to GAZ. Fuel tank - 300 litres (cars have 200, right? say me if im wrong, i'll rebalance). So, that's all. The point is: Make the vehicle spawn points less bounded to locations. But dont lose realism. Also there should be twice as much vehicles per server (not include Huey!!!). This will prevent clans from farming/stealing all the vehicles at a server. Even a noob will be able to find a car. It's the best balance. Awaiting devs and users comments and suggestions.

I'm getting a bit sick and tired of seeing alot of streamers on twitch that pretty much glorify hacking when it benefits then and then cry about it when they get killed by them.... I've seen multiple streamers lately that always seem to find the same server as a friendly hacker which then proceeds to spawn in vehicles and ammo boxes so they can kit themselves out fully. What i would like to know is why is the ban wave for these script kiddies only something like every 3 weeks? why not everyday? Fair enough there is the argument of "its only alpha this will help us out" but how exactly does it help when all it takes is for them to get a keygen and are back in the game within 5 mins knowing they are safe for another 3 weeks or so. I love arma 2 and i was surprised at how much i like dayz mod even if it is looked down upon in the arma community, but a few days after the ban wave happens its all back to the same thing, and now we have people streaming it with no comebacks on them. Its always "what am i going to do if he just spawns things in for me?" simple....get some integrity...kill them, drop the items and move server, the less attention the script kiddies get the better, streaming it and loving the fact you have been given all the items even ones that are not available to you is not helping the mod one bit. Please, stop glorifying hacking. and please for the love of god and the sake of the mod, make the ban wave everyday.

I never realized how many hackers there were.
freak367 replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I only just found a car a couple of days ago, or rather a bus, first time I have seen a working vehicle in the 30 days of this life, and all previous lives. And it was stashed behind some trees in the wilderness. Since that's what happens to all vehicles. Other than that, I found a repairable truck just before finding the bus at its proper spawn location but didn't bother with it. And before that I have never seen a non-working or working vehicle, or seen anyone driving a vehicle. They are rare, groups tend to repair them and stash them away so nobody else can have a vehicle, too rare in my opinion. -

I'm fairly sure the OP has it right.. in any kind of infected apocalypse, there would be droves of people fleeing the cities, paying for gas if they could, stealing it if they couldn't. It'd likely be one of the first things to go. I can understand how Cherno and Elektro don't have any big ships in their harbors, as those would peace out asap as well, likely filling their hulls with precious go juice, and emptying the tanks at the docks. Unfortunately, this mod can't capture those first days of panic.. the looting, the rioting, the murdering for gasoline/food/shelter, as the virus spreads exponentially. Those who stayed, become them... the slavering, drooling horde. We don't see the immediate aftermath.. slaughtered and butchered remnants of women and children. Some people lying in bars with guns resting in line with the giant holes in their skulls, the floors slick with blood and tripe.. some chose not to go out that way. The freeways, side roads, railways.. all congested with yet more gruesome evidence of the spreading virus. Husks of burned cars, filled with husks of people, always painted red with dried blood... the occasional bloody handprint on a window or door. These were the ones that ran out of gas. Thusly, there would be a veritable plethora of vehicles sprawled along the roads, many of which would surely be in running order.. and yet, there would be an absolute dearth of fuels to drive them. Your dream car, that nice SLK550, Jaguar... not useable. From this we could extrapolate that there wouldn't be electricity either. Power stations would burn through their remaining coal within a week, if they were automated. The nuclear cities might have a month, but the lights would dwindle ever lower until they finally flickered out. That GPS, those NVGs..that flashlight..radios.. batteries would become the new gold, as any survivor would surely hope against hope to hear the governments broadcast a message telling of safety, and shelter. Then, the bandits come. They have the gas and the vehicles, the weapons...Needing what you have, or don't have... it doesn't matter. They take it, anything. If they leave you alive, you are lucky, or they didn't want to waste ammo. So the surviving survivors are then pushed out of the cities, naked, with maybe a flashlight, a scrap of cloth, a bag.... Choose your Gender, and be ready to fight. -
I agree but in this order please. 1) Globally ban all script users and hackers. 2) Fix duping. 3) Reset everything Tents,Vehicles and players.

Yes my initial thought was to trade it since I am no sniper altought I LOVE using snipers the whole expeirence of calculating the distance of the target is rich :P. But like I said my sniping skills are too low for me to be carrying one, I was not aware of how much the as50 is wanted, and crash sites are quite the opportunity for loners with no vehicles...so I just took my chances.. when i thought about the bison, it was for zeds mainly, meaning head shots, but if you are offering me a M4A1 SD then sure why not, I gladly accept :D AS50 is only as awesome as the user's skills, im no pvper anyhow. Yap my guess is ill switch over to an akm when i get the chance... Hmm my conlusion is to get a silenced side arm, one of those highend raries that nirvana talked about... and i guess ill work on my sniper skills..but ill never use the AS50.. I "took" it from a guy who was camping at hill pointing a military base (not judging) which i was going to so i had to patrol the area first, and so i saw from about 100meters away a bigass cannon saying hello from the bushes it was hillrious, had enough time to take out the m14 and pop the guy. the small dmr is just fine I guess

Interestingly.... I have not seen that EXACT script message before, but one similar. It occurs everytime someone enters a vehicle. If the vehicle is not on the DayZ list (i.e. a tank) it explodes. You should unban this guy, if you ban is based on the above script. (The normal script does not have stage2 on the end, but looking at it, this is not spawning a vehicle) If you are looking at your scripts, look for .sqf file entries that are NOT "dedicatedserver.sqf" You should be looking for stuff like "vehicles.sqf" "ammocrate.sqf" and stuff like that. *EDIT* It would be good if you could paste the script. I am working on some examples to put in the wiki to assist admins. Could you anonymise and paste the interesting bits of the log please?

Attention: Rocket. Please review the DayZ server host rules.
tweakstur replied to Zoop's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I only read about 2 pages, so if any of this has already been said, whatever... WHILE IN ALPHA: Keep things as-is but make it a priority to start enforcing server rules. Make being a DayZ host sought after... You should have a rough idea of how many players per country. Allocate enough servers in that region then place new applicants on a waiting list. One server host acts stupid: suspend the server, blacklist the ip or whatever punishment you see fit. Essentially, you'd stop handing out LocationID's to anyone who's waving money around. No more automatically being whitelisted... GSP's would take a hit but they shouldn't be investing too much until the mod is COMPLETE. THEN AFTER THE ALPHA: Stop treating DayZ like its the world's only sandbox. Every playground, at every school, in every subdivision, in every city, in every country has it's own sandbox and it's own set of rules. Let the people putting in the time and money to run a server police it. Let the community expand on the idea of zombie survival. Let admin's customize what new players start out with, let them spawn vehicles, give guns, etc... After all, "This is DayZ. This is your story." -
US957, Hacker is invisible with an aim-bot and ability to teleport to anywhere on the map
realirony posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Today (August 1st, 2012) at 8:55pm EST and continuing for nearly 30mins+ afterwards, a hacker came into US957 (UTC -6) and headshot everyone I was with near Gorka. He then destroyed our vehicles. After killing us all, we respawned and he teleported everyone into a church (i think it was the one in either Elektro or Cherno) and killed all of us by 1-shotting us. We were unable to see him the entire time. He taunted us through local voice chat and kept killing us every time we respawned. We are unsure who the hacker is/was but provided below is a screenshot of the people on the server when this was happening. Everyone with the tag "/r/" before their name are those that were with me at the time who I know are NOT the hacker in question. -

I'd love to say "this is alpha" like everyone else does.. but that's just hooey. Wait, wait a good 20, 30 mins to log. Sometimes it's a desynch issue, sometimes there are too many vehicles active on the server and they cause a weird type of lag, specifically the helicopters. -

Today I played on a non hive server and had more fun than I've had in a while since I first started playing DayZ. The game was being played the way it should be. Sure some guys would altF4 but there was no ghosting and it was actually a challenge. Tents were working as well. My entire team was having a blast. I felt that adrenaline rush that I had been missing from this game for a while. Then the hackers came in. Started ruining our fun. We were collecting parts for vehicles and killing people trying to take it and we were teleported and thunderdomed. I believe servers should be passworded and non-hived until there can be some sort of way to prevent altF4, ghosting, and hacking. There has to be a process to white list your IP outside of game. Please bring back the game I love so much. -
Vehicles spawn with items in them, there is no "hacking" involved.

All 3 camps 200km apart raided in 6hours
raffko replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
One word. Helicopters. You can see camps from several hundred meters away and the big vehicles like the URAL or the bus can be seen a long way into the fog. So it is not hackers all of a sudden raiding week old camps but a patch that put choppers back in is all. We found a huge hoarder camp within a minute of taking off the other day. -
Hacks are back and rife again I wonder how many people are using those hacks where u can see every person, vehicle and tent on the map. Its alittle strange that my clans 3 camps which were West, North and North East on the map - had been there for over 5weeks and then all 3 of them are raided in the same day. Vehicles all shot up, the tents came back on a restart, 1 ATV was stolen no other vehicles. Using hacks i guess has hit its peak in this game and everyone is doing it, you might aswell to level the playing field. It sucks, game gets worse the more people that play it.

Valec replied to Zoop's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Nothing contrary. You're clearly babbling. What you do on 'your' server effects people on every other server you go to. So no, you don't get the right to ban. Don't like it, go play something else. I've been dealing with hackers all day long. It's frustrating as hell. The group I play with has their own server. We had to grin and bear it while two assholes constantly teleported to us. Yes, we'd have loved to have banned them. We lost multiple vehicles and all the gear on us. Just accept the fact that it's alpha and you have to deal with this shit. Stop begging for rights to do things that are specifically not allowed. I don't need an argument for why it's not allowed. It's already not allowed. -
[GSUA] clan spawning helis, vehicles on US 1218 Virginia (Video Soon)
Bukethead replied to Bukethead's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Unfortunately no, we didn't actually see them spawning in vehicles. Thing is since there's only 3 chopper spawns on the server, it's suspicious that they had more than 3. Around 35:17 you can see a chopper in the water, and next to it leaning up against a house is a destroyed heli, as well as the one we were flying in. That accounts for all 3 of them and there was another downed one in Stary, as well as another they spawned in after I fell out and used it to shoot down my friends. -
Why are cars so rare in Chernarus?
flospy replied to kurtthecobain's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't blame the clans. They're moral enough to work together and use the correct tactics that you yourself cannot do in order to get vehicles. Perks come with being in a clan, too. -
Possibly a sign of a hacker nearby?
[email protected] replied to ironlungs85's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Depends what the hacker is doing, if they want to wipe out the server they'll do that right away so there's not much warning. If they're fooling around however you might notice explosions and vehicles being driven around the coast carelessly.
