  1. yeah the chopper will probably appear on the next restart, happend to mine its a common glitch just take a look to see if any of your tents spawned in, if they haven't no vehicles are on the server either
  2. Eyeballing server logs, its hilarious to see the amount of expensive equipment people are armed with in a zombie apocalypse. Out of 20 people, 15 will have nvgs, 10 will have high class sniper rifles, 5 will have thermal weapons. Several of those will have silenced primaries also in their equipment. Ignoring the fact that it would take an ungodly amount of cash to outfit large numbers of troops with these weapons, one still has to factor in that most of this would be either destroyed in a crash, or fouled while sitting in the mud all day, or generally just being rendered unusable by any number of conditions. Additionally, gadgets require power, guns require cleaning and repair, etc. It isn't hard to see why people only work together with people they know: the only real threat is other people. At no time does a person with this equipment feel truly threatened by a zombie, let alone the few who aren't similarly equipped. Factor in duping, and its almost impossible to make this a game about surviving the zombies. Will it even be possible to stop all the duping? The people at Blizzard had a hell of a time with duping in Diablo 2, and I'm not sure they ever solved that issue completely, even with a decade to work with (though I might stand to be corrected on that). I've personally seen camps filled with vehicles, with enough fuel cans to power an armored battalion. People are now offering equipment in game for cash, which is probably a scam, but they did the same thing in Diablo with legitimate sales of items by third parties. People hoard items, others steal them, or destroy them. Within a day or two, another cache is gathered up, and the cycle continues. Hell, one can die somewhere, and arrive soon enough to pick up their equipment again, with a small amount of luck. Is this really a new experience? This doesn't promote 'emergent gameplay.' It doesn't promote working together. It doesn't really promote anything, other than people picking on 'noobs' or camping a particular spot, which is hardly a new experience. Now, I'm sure I'll see the normal crass comments here: suggestions that I'm 'butthurt' or whatever insult someone will come up with, but I earnestly wish to see this game become something different. Deathmatch is not new, having people work together to accomplish something other than killing other players is much more rare. TL;DR Deathmatch is old, and will get old quickly for everyone but a few grognards in this game, like it has for every other game (not faulting grognards, I am one in certain games). Let's put up suggestions for making this game into something a little more, shall we? I've already mentioned some, in a manner of speaking. Weapon repair, batteries for gadgets, weapon cleaning would all be good additions. Less complex weapons would benefit from these dramatically, fancier weapons should require considerable effort to keep in operation, if one is capable of repair at all. How many spare military grade thermal scopes do you think exist, and how knowledgeable does one have to be to keep them in operation?
  3. Once your server has been hacked and multiple items are on your server 14 tents 4 vehicles and an array of guns some of which are not even loot able. The vehicles are self heal. How do I get rid of all these items? I am obviously going to have to pick up items that are going to get me flagged as an admin. we are getting killed out here as admins. Very little information to go off of in order to administer the server to a level that is acceptable. We have 0 to no script.txt help and most that are caught are false positives. The game is great but spending 4 hours trying to run over tents and hope the items disapper is sad. Sad that we have no idea how to keep the server fair and fun. Any suggestions on how to clean up a server once hacked weapons/self healing vehicles/tents with multiple items in them?

UK4 "Thunderdomed" by player named "LOL"

He is currently rampaging on US 1044. I made a post about it, he is spawning vehicles and giving them away: Killing people who do not take them. Time: 12.30 am Central
  5. There have been plenty of complaints of admin abuse and we all know what they are capable of. The fact is, if you allow people to do it, they will abuse it. It's a simple fact. Locked servers = cheaters. Every time. I'd be fine with it if you couldn't play on any other server. However you can take your ill-gotten gains elsewhere, or even unlock your server once you have all the vehicles and gear you need. Don't think for a second this isn't what will happen if admins are allowed to lock.

    DayZ Stories

Dear god, why me? I barely escape elektro with my skin intact, hiking north to meet Nate. Why me? After days of avoiding roads and shadowing power lines I made my way to Berezino, our meeting point. Upon entering the city, I found that it had been deserted, aside from the wandering groups of Deadheads that now made up the majority of our planet's population. Jesus, the town looked like a war zone. Destroyed vehicles, run down fortifications, dead bodies, nd debris littered the streets like toys on the floor of a child's bedroom. Throw around in some climatic battle, forgotten by everyone but the dead. Nate was nowhere to be found. Had he succumbed to the horrors lurking in the dark places of this City of Ghosts, or had he simply given up hope and left for a new destination, a new hope of survival? "Elektro," I said to myself. Recounting all the times I had told him of the loot I found in mass quantities in that godforsaken coastal metropolis. "He had to have gone to Elektro." The thought of returning stirred up many memories, mostly unpleasant. I had lost Danny there, Tik-Tak too. I had been forced to kill my first human being there, which had ended up beng for a pile of empty whiskey bottles and bent tin cans. The city was nothing but a charnel house to those who dared enter. So I set out on my trek bck along the coast to that city I swore never to enter again. After dodging a group of Zacks by running into the forest, I came upon a friendly fellow named Jacken. After a short, tense standoff in the dark we decided to team up. I told him why I was heading back down to the coast, and that my friend was a fairly new player who likely had no ideas of the dangers he currently faced. A fairly expirienced player, he was a tad low on gear and decided that I could use some help once I arrived at Elektro. Making our way through the mountainous roads, time and time again avoiding large hordes of the undead, we came upon a small village. Jacken spoke up first. "Rock, you hungry?" "Sure am. Lost most of my supplies on the hike up to Berez." "Alright, we'll hit up Tulga here then move on to elektro." Creeping slowly through the town, we wasted precious minutes scavenging for supplies that couldn't be found. Minutes in which Nate may have been killed. Then it happened. Creeping across the road in the dark, I tripped over a crawler making its nightly rounds. A scream echoed up from its depths as the entire village was summoned to me. Emptying an AK-74 magazine into the oncoming horde did little to slow them down as they closed the distance. That's when Jacken threw a flare, illuminating the entire village. The horde stopped momentarily, only to have Jacken charge them with his hatchet. In the middle fo the road I saw him swing left, right, up, down, taking down a deadhead with every hack, slash, and cleave. I rushed to help, but something slammed into me from behind as I ran to help. One off the zombies had run into me in the dark, and with my night vision deadened by the flare the monster began to carve into me. SNAP! A bone in my leg shattered and a deep gash was torn into my chest as I fell in the darkness. Falling unconcious I prepared myself for the end.But the end didn't come. Within a few seconds I was awake again, desperately dragging myself out of the fight. The flare had gone out, but the growls and moans of the dead remained. As I crawled into the forest I heardone last, faint shout from the village below. "Find your friend! Don't let hi-" Being cut off suddenly in a chorus of sick, wet, crunching sounds his shout was silenced. I applied morphine for my bones, and a bandage for the deep gash in my chest. Looking down into the blackened village, I could make out just a bit of movement on the road. I threw a new flare in hopes of alerting Jacken to my survival. At the spot he had made his stand in, there now crouched a horde of the beasts. Several corpses lay strewn over the road and to the sides, at least ten that I could see in the red glare. A sickening, wet sound echoed through the trees and I knew it to be the final acknowledgement of Jacken's existance, only food for a horde of bloodthirsy, cannibal former human beings. I turned into the woods and ran, going south and never stopping. Wracked with pain I stumbled through the night, with my goal being the only thing that kept me going. I should have died that night, on the side of the road in Tulga along with Jacken, the last thing I saw being the teeth of a dozen starved, dead mouths. After what seemed like hours of running, I reached it. The dark familiar skyline greeted me with a feeling of unease as I slipped quietly into the town. Raiding the hospital, I stumbled on another dose of morphine and a bag of blood. Thinking to myself that it would be handy in case Nate had been wounded, I darted through the streets. Whispering my friends name every half-minute or so, I came upon the old station house in town. I popped a flare, deciding to alert Nate to my presence through a visual, instead of audible means. Scouring the station, I found one extra clip for my rifle before descending back to the ground level. Satisfied with my loot, I crept slowly and deliberately out of the station's rear exit when it happened again. Turning a corner onto the darkened streets led me face to face with a hopper. Crouched low, it let out a menacing growl as it leaped for my face. I turned and ran, not wanting to alert the rest of the town's population to my presence any more than I already had when two more cut me off from the road. I broke hard left into the field where my flares had fallen, no less than five undead chasing me at this point. Sprinting with all the strength I could muster I made my way to the supermarket in hopes of making a last stand when I heard a voice from the shadows. "Rock, I see you! Wait up!" Oh shit! I forgot about Nate in my exodus from the station house! I screamed at him to find some buildig to hide in while I took care of my pursuers, though I knew I couldn't survive. Running into the supermarket drew them in withme, now sauntering slowly through the aisles. Thinking quickly, I ran out the back door in an attempt to lead them away from my friend but to my curiosity I hadn't been followed. Then I heard a voice from inside the supermarket. "Rock, where are you? I'm inside the store." Oh god no. Is someone else going to die tonight because of me? Then he shouts at me. "They're all over the place! I found a gun, a double-barrel. Holy shit, they're everywhere!" A large boom thundered outward from the store as I ran into the street. Even more came crawling and shambling from dark corners of the town as Nate made his last stand. The were gathering around the outside now, oblivious to my presence as they came closer to their food inside. Then it hit me. He really is going to die because of me. He was justa kid.He had no experience against these things other than run and hide. But now he was cornered. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Another thundering blast echoed through the dark store as I made up my mind. Taking one of my last flares from my belt, I lobbed it through the store window. As it ignited, I saw half a dozen rottin, pale faces turn to me from inside. Fast as lightning I drew my revolver and sighted in on one that was outside and nearest to me. Pulling the trigger, I had his friend's head in my iron sights before his body hitthe ground dead. Another shot, another kill, and I ran in the front door. "Nate! get out of here, there's doors in the back!" They stumbled toward me, cold hands reaching for my throat as I pulled the trigger. BLAM! One fell, I sighted another. BLAM! Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat I told myself. Time seemed to stand still as I fired. I couldn't hear their moans, the sizzling of the flare, or even the oud gunshots eminating from the barrel of my weapon. There was just me and the undead bastard currently in my sights. Finishing off the ones in the front, I ran to the back to discover that there were even MORE back there. Reloadng I proceeded to clear them out. The last one nearly had me as I fired the gun point blank into his left eye, splattering the wall behind him in grey matter as the body fell to the floor lifeless. Nate came storming out from the back, now with a crossbow clutched in his hands as he staredat me. Before we could say anything else, more entered the store from the front and back. Nate scurried behind one of the shelves to find more bolts for his weapon while I reloaded and began taking them down. Nate, finding another bolt, proceeded to reload while I turned my back on the few remaining Zed to cover him from behind. At the moment I turned around one stood up behind him, approaching him from his bllind spot. "Nate, behind you!" His voice quivered in fear. "I got him, don't worr-" His sentence was cut off as the zombie behind him hit him, slamming him to the ground. Hearing the moans behind me growing ever closer, I took aim at Nate's attacker and fired. The force sent it backwards, with a smoking hole in its head as it stumbled about for a few seconds before accepting a final, permanent death. Getting up, now with a loaded crossbow, Nate fired over my should and hit one that was about to finish me, repaying my favor almost instantly. Swinging around and firing my weapon in one fluid motion, I began backpedaling to the rear of the store. At the moment the last one fell, my revolver clicked as the hammercame down on an empty cylinder. Fumbling for my next six rounds, I had just shoved them into the gun when I was grabbed from over the counter. I yelled as the rounds clicked into place at the same time cold, stiff fingernails pierced my arm. The thing jerked, as if to pull me over the counter and pin me to the ground where I would be an easy meal. With its fingers still lodged in my arm, I placed the barrel of my revolver into the bastard's mouth and squeezed the trigger as I clenched my teeth in pain. The bullet ripped through the back of his mouth, taking a portion of jawbone with it as it sailed into the back room of the store minus its owner. The thing gave a last desperate wease before the grip slackened and I was able to pull my arm free. The body fell back against the wall and slid down, leaving a small trail of gore in its wake that glistened in the dying red light of the flare. I limped over to the wall, and fell against it for support. With my legs giving out I slid down and into a sitting position as Nate crawled over to sit beside me. The world was silent for a moment, as if even the crickets were giving us their rapt attention. We both sat in silence, neither of us able to believe that we were still breathing. The flare died, plunging the store back into darkness. The bodies, and evidence of our struggle seemed to evaporate as the shadows swallowed them. The silence was broken. "Nate..." "Yeah?" "Did I save you?" He was quiet for a moment. "I think so." Slipping me some painkillers and a bandage, he continued. "That was some shit we just pulled off man." "I guess it was." He wrapped he bandage around my arm, and the pain that had been hounding me since Tulga had finally retreated, now only a distant, numb throbbing in my head. I stood up, barely, and made my way to the back doors. Nate finished scavenging the food and other useful items and met me within a minute. I led him shakily to my hiding place so we could rest for the night, regather our strength and take inventory, when he spoke up. "Why'd you come back for me? I was screwed." "I just did." Even in the night I could see his frown. "No reason? Even I would have left me to rot in there." I gave a smile as we reached the treeline to the north of the city. "Let's just say someone did the same for me. Pay it forward, ya know?" I glanced back one last time, at the city that had claimed so many of my friends. Not this time you bastard, I thought as we scampered northward. i'll see you some day Jacken. Thanks for another chance.

    What is it with vehicle's

Seriously no one has said a word about this sentence? Anti Astronaut Sniper? Wow. and 200km? That's quite an exaggeration makes me think you exaggerate about the rest of your post as well, you know searching the entire map for a vehicle.... Like the other guy said, find camps, I've found 5-6 vehicles sitting in people's camps. Never did understand putting all the eggs in one basket so to speak, but hey their lose is my gain. No easier way to gear up than finding player camps.
  8. Hey guys, I'm currently looking for 3-4 US West/East Players to form a nice group; preferably farming vehicles or just pvping and doing fun things together. Generally looking for active players that can pretty much be on to get things done together. Experience: I've been playing for 6-7 weeks; looking for medium/high experience players! Low experience is fine, but please know what you're doing! Skills 1. Great shooter; currently using M4A1 CCO SD + SVD Camo 2. Extremely controlled in combat; don't get nervous or panic 3. Know a lot of the good sniping spots, flanks, scouting areas 4. Can play many roles [Assault, Sniper, Scout, Flanker, Medic] Skype: Laeins
  9. Barns and churches are almost guaranteed to have some kind of a weapon, military camps have weapons like AKs, glocks, etc., civilian houses can have maps and stuff like makarovs and enfields.... What's so hard to find? If you said vehicles okay but weapons? lolz
  10. The helicopter and many other items where hacked into the server by a variety of scripts. Ammo crates where implemented by the hackers, they took advantage of them and had access to anything they wanted. Towards the end of the carnage (which only ended due to a server restart) at Krutoy Cap a variety of vehicles spawned on the road which exploded one after the other. Finally, just as the server went to restart we got teleported to a location that I cant identify because I automatically alt-f4'ed, however I managed to read a short server-wide message displaying instructions in what to do upon being teleported. From then I was out from the game, it's a shame these type of things happen. They actually managed to kill me, and it was confirmed that it was the hackers, as the helicopter soon after picked them up.
  11. There have been hackers on the server the last couple days, but they are cool and have been spawning weapon boxes and vehicles for us. Im all for it if they arent killing us and blowing things up

    Character Classes

This needs to be much more limited and in line with improving realism. At spawn the player picks a skill set, that's it. No differentiation of spawning equipment or anything. The only relevant options that I see at the moment are: Mechanic: Only mechanics are capable of repairing vehicles. After all not any old bloke can take a pile of engine parts and produce a working vehicle. Medic: Only medics can administer blood bags. Also change morphine to only alleviate the pain for a certain amount of time, three hours perhaps? Then only medics can set a broken bone. These are classes that would actually reflect reality.

    Are vehicle spawns cross-server?

Vehicles are server persistant... theyre not easy to find by in large, and take a bit o time and effort to fix up... and can sometimes just diseapear from where they are saved... which is really annoying. But most i think must be stashed in clan camps.
  14. Each server has its own vehicle spawns and they can't be moved cross server. Chances are low, especially on older/popular servers as most vehicles are probably stockpiled in camps.
  15. Is there only like 50ish possible vehicles and 800 000 players lol? Or does every server have it's own seperate vehicles and vehicle spawns? What are the chances to get a vehicle?
  16. I like to hear what people think about adding IEDs to DayZ So...I am in the military and I like the milsim side of DayZ/Arma. I don't expect every player to like this idea, but I'm sure Rocket would know from his experiences in the military that the use of IEDs (improvised explosive devices) are a huge factor in unconventional warfare (which is basically the fighting style of DayZ). I would like to see them added to DayZ. I understand that satchel charges are kind of similar, but I have never seen them in DayZ. I don't think adding a bomb as a whole object is a good idea because that would make it too easy. They would be everywhere and I don't want to change the game into everyone running around looking for explosive hazards. I was thinking more along the lines of challenging players who would want to use IEDs to take out vehicles, zombies, or players by making them piece the IED together. Obviously there are several components to improvised explosives: main charge (bulk explosive or military ordnance), power source (batteries), initiator (electric blasting cap) and switch or trigger (light switch or any simple electronic switch). Lets talk about main charges...ANFO is a pretty common one and it consist of basic stuff like diesel fuel and ammonium nitrate. Now, in the game we already have jerry cans that we fill up with diesel fuel so that one is easy. Ammonium nitrate is pretty easy too because I read that Rocket was looking at adding farming to the game and ammonium nitrate is used in fertilizers. So, by adding bags of fertilizer to the game for farming purposes it would double as an ingredient to an improvised explosive. You could just combine the two in your inventory and have a jerry can full of explosives. Now we just need to have a low explosive so set the main charge off. That would be our initiator. I was thinking that electric blasting caps, which are small metal tubes filled with low explosives set off by electricity, could be added to military loot only for use with a main charge. Then you could combine the initiator with the main charge and have a primed charge. To set all this off we need wire, battery pack, and a switch of some sort...all of these items can easily be added as single objects. Connect the wire to your placed charge and run it where you want (determined by the length of the wire). Connect your battery pack and switch and now it would all be setup. Wait for someone, a vehicle packed with survivors/bandits, or a pack of zombies and Boom! I am sure it seems like a lot for people who are not familiar with the process, but so does map reading and other tasks in the game. I would think all these items need to be rare just so that it adds another dynamic to the game, but not change the game entirely. It could also give Joe Snuffy the survivor a one up on the clan of bandits that are riding around in their Ural waiting to see someone so they can jump out spray a bunch of bullets their way. If those bandits in the Ural are cautious enough and maybe spot the main charge in the road or the wire that leads to the trigger point then kudos. But I would definitely think that any IED would need to require a player to initiate it and not be like an anti tank mine that just lies dormant waiting for the right amount of pressure to set it off. Just to keep the player involved in the action and give the victim a chance in the fight. The idea of basic booby traps like trip wire initiated grenades is also very cool and a helluvah lot simpler. I think I have said enough though. What do you guys think? I hope I haven't violated any laws by posting this...but I am sure it can be found anywhere on the internet. DISCLAIMER: This is for the game. Do not try to do this!!!

    It's OK to Kill Anyone/Everyone

well i dont exactly see it as fun when your shooting at someone with no weapon in the back...but i guess whatever gets your rocks off. <3 I think there could be more to accomplish if there was electricty put into the game and maybe more vehicles..then people would try to survive more then just amass things in there camps...start thinking rebuilding a society, if this is after all a zombie apocolps..

    Just raided a Clan Camp

Do anything. You can act like a hero. You can be a villain. You can find vehicles You can even fly a heli You can search for camps. You can even build a camp. There's so much to do.

Sometimes when were waiting for friends to jump on we will play on NL11 'friendly server' and then change to our usual one when theyr'e ready.. We did'nt realize they had dropped the Friendly tag from the server description as we have it stored in the Filter and we all quickly hit join. .After finding a bus we met up and had a great time till we met bandits with vehicles also. We soon found out the hard way that it was now a NON FRIENDLY server,,,.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oyvGp1pvmo&feature=plcp oh how i raged.

    Just found a functional chopper.

I don't know how else it could have gotten to where it is in the shape that it's in. I couldn't even get it to lift off the ground. Thanks for the offer anyway. I honestly don't even want the thing. I just want to go for a ride in it. I haven't driven any vehicles yet.
  21. We killed Bamma and some of the members from his group when they came close to our camp with their ural. We stayed on aslong as we could to protect it but when we had to sleep it seems your group found it instead.. I must admit we had way to many vehicles so it was for the best. I only want that UAZ back. :(
  22. Sorry. How do you know this guy was not legit? People trade for Satchel Charges all the time, doesn't mean they hacked it in. I'm glad your admin buddy restarted the server though so you could horde 7 vehicles in your camp. Considering almost all servers are run by clans, and in my experience none of them have any problem restarting a server if their vehicles get taken or destroyed - adding this kind of ability is a very bad idea. I think a better idea would be one reserved slot for dedicated volunteers or game staff, or perhaps more could be reported to the (a different?) hive where it can be actioned from there.
  23. I'm not at all excited about a standalone game. I think DayZ is an accident, Like Equilibrium or Boondock Saints. Rocket had an idea for a game, and tried to make it with the tools at hand. The blend of his vision and the restrictions he faced wound up being very, very popular, but if he made a standalone game, where he could fully realize his vision, who's to say that the "correct" DayZ won't be utter garbage compared to this buggy, clunky, shoddy thing we currently enjoy? I don't think he can do it. My plan is to let DayZ's pride precipitate its fall, then buy ArmA3 and see what the modding community builds out of that. Seriously, who's going to build a big-budget video game that's got good graphics and a deep engine and expensive marketing, but still has five pages of keybindings and pitch-black nights and no explanation for why your sniper rifle's crosshairs only very rarely point at where your bullet is going to hit? Is anyone going to stand at a podium and say, "Okay, here's our new game, we're very proud of it and we think that you'll like playing it, but you'll need to spend about 40 hours on the wiki and forums figuring out how to fix vehicles and use mil dots, or else you'll just be getting wrecked and crying and that hurts my ears." Yeah, Minecraft made a killing despite not really telling anyone how to play, but that game is crazy simple compared to this one. This is closer to Dwarf Fortress, and that game's not selling any million copies any time soon. Tarn can barely afford Dr. Pepper on the donations he gets.

    vehicles and tents

nother question bout them, can one player save multiple tents/vehicles?
  25. Why cant something be done by a client side script that kills the whole server and spawns vehicles and teleports people. Its getting to the point of why pay for the server if nothing is going to be done about it. Do you guys notice this in your servers
