Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
[email protected] replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
We had the same issue and I was sure, I've installed the latest updates. I reinstalled the newest updates, hoster is HostAltitude and then the chopper just saved like it should. Everything is working fine since then and we have three servers. All tents and vehicles are saving. -
That's right, tracking. I think this feature should be in DayZ and would definitely fit the environment. What am I talking about you ask? Well, if any of you has played a hunting game before like Deer Hunter knows what I'm talking about (yes, deer hunter, stop judging me). Who has never thought of a way of track down your enemy without simply having to SEE him? Surely there can be clues all over the place like dead zombies, dropped junk, used fireplaces and so on... But is that really enough to track a player down? I think DayZ should have a bit more complex and versatile tracking system. It should be something where you can track people down with a little work if you want it to. But if you're not really searching for any traces then you won't find some either. But then again, one day you go into the forrest at sunrise, light up a fire, cook ur meat and then suddenly realize that there are tracks all around you in which case panic kicks in and your survival instinct starts working...or u just get shot in the face. I'm not trying to suggest making this a hunting game, no not at all. Since this game is about realism and anti-gaming for that matter I think this would be a very nice addition. Just to clarify things I'm going to bring out some actual examples: Blood trails when players are bleeding (has been suggested before, many times) Clear footprints Cracked or smashed bushes / grass / small trees where survivors run past Oil/fuel leaks produced by vehicles Tire tracks produced by vehicles Food remains / empty cans after eating Empty soda cans after drinking Empty bullet shells on the ground Different terrain blending - like leaving muddy footprints in a city when you've come straight from a forrest Also since this game has a very diverse weather, daylight and environtment system I think those should play a very big role in tracking. Some more examples: Raining: Very clear wet footprints can be seen indoors Footprints disappear quickly Bloodtrails disappear quickly Oil/fuel leaks disappear quickly Clear and sunny day: Highlight of tracking - most traces are much more visible then in any other weather or time of the day Indoor/urban environment tracking very difficult (unless muddy footprints or bloodtrails) Campfire smoke visible from much greater distances At night: Bloodtrail and footprints tracking very difficult, even with NVG (unless a light source is provided) Empty used flairs on the ground Much better hearing Terrain blending much less effective due to the decrease of temperature Note: these are just some of the suggestions that I just thought of from the top of my head. Feel free to add more. Also I think that a very important part of tracking is that traces disappear relatively quickly. Mainly for two reasons: if only fresh traces are provided (that don't last very long), it is much harder to track down your enemy ; massive increase in bandwidth. The bandwidth or server capacity or whatever you call it, is actually very important. From a programmer standpoint of view I know exactly how stressful this can be for the game engine and servers. Mainly because every single player in the server is going to leave a massive trace of instances behind them anywhere they go. I understand this can be an issue with this suggestion but truthfully this topic is just for an idea not the consequences. Maybe this could be in the future stand-alone DayZ who knows. Anyway, feel free to post your suggestions. If I get enough feedback from this suggestion I can start photoshoping some examples from the game :) . Edit// sry for my English, it's not really my native language.

Helicopters Not being saved after Server Restarts
Valetius replied to Valetius's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The vehicles stayed. After every restart the heli respawns at skalisky island and has to be repaired again as if we never found it. -
Hacker found and busted with hand in cookie jar.
FrankTheDuck replied to Anthrax12's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Simple break down for the grammar nazi's scriptors teleported all players to his camp. He came on our TS server. We dealt with is as best as possible. (bans placed) They blew his vehicles up. He has reason to rage. -
Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
[email protected] replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I had vehicles and tents save position and gear fine (I compulsively save them every time I finish modifying the inventory), but I didn't really pay enough attention to my ATV (before I blew it up after a reset) to notice if any gear respawned in it. -
'Realism' arguments need to be left out
moofactory replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hands up Who hated the old batman films? Hands up who loves the new batman films? Im gona go out on a limb and say most of you like the new trilogy to the old ones? Why? My thoughts are this. They are much more grounded in reality. They have a sense of "this is not entirely realistic... but its not totally Unbelievable" And that's the thing about any good movie. or game for that matter. Costumes, characters, weapons, vehicles, setting. They all have to feel believable to the viewer. Could I stretch that as far to say as... more Authentic? even... Immersive? I don't think that's such a stupid comment. Batman... is not real, its fantasy, its creative... But... it still has believability. So, what I say taking away from this... is that just like any fictional movie that's grounded in reality. A game, grounded in reality like dayZ... Can have creative exceptions to "realism"... If its not nessisarally "realistic" but has some grounding in reality.. than it will work. Any game needs balance for it to work, Realism shouldn't come at the cost of breaking a game. So I think its important to not get bogged down in an argument over tiny details that in the end... wont matter. -
@Deuzerre: I just wanted to start threads concerning aspects 1) and 2), but then I found this one. 1) This is supposed to be a zombie survival game, but it's becoming a high tech war/guerilla simulation. High tier loot should be rare, but it seems like 1 of 3 players is running around with anti material rifles and night vision goggles (myself included). And if they die, they just have to fetch another gun/ghillie/nvg from their tent and can do this like 10 times before they run out of gear. I know, many items are spawned by duping, but even without it the overall number of itmes would be increasing. Currently items disappear in 3 different ways: 1. being despawned, 2. being destroyed in a tent/vehicle 3. due to bugs. I assume that 1. won't happen to top gear too often and 3. can be neglected in the standalone. I also assume that the number of really good items spawned in baracks/heli crash sites surpasses the number of those destroyed (most people destroy tents because hoarders annoy them and many items are hacked. This will hopefully be fixed in the standalone). Conclusion: the total number of good items increases. At some stage this will lead to something like 200 AS50s, 400 M240s, 600 NVGs and so on per server. I suggest the following measures to fix this in the standalone: - there should be a fixed items-per-player ratio for every item, depending on the number of active players in the last 7 days or so. For example, if there were 200.000 unique players in the last week and the number of NVGs on all servers and in the inventories of those unique players is 80.000, additional NVGs may spawn until their number reaches 100.000 (or the ratio is 0,5). This way "rare" items would be rare indeed. - limit the number of tents for each unique character to 2-3 ON ALL SERVERS COMBINED and limit the storage space in tents and vehicles. I suggest 40 slots per tent. In addition, a tent should be able to store only one primary and one secondary weapon (and probably 1 NVG/rangefinder etc.). This way average players would still have a chance to find good items, while regular players would be rewarded by having a second or third kit of gear in their tent. 2) I agree. The anti-material rifles seem out of place in this game. I vote for them to be removed.

At first all the "cheaters" did was spawn vehicles and weapons to kill everyone. Then the thunderdome appeared a few days ago. Now just about every "cheater" I come across will spawn to my location call me by name on VOIP chat and say they just want to see what gear I have. Then they will fill my inventory with missing weapon mags and disappear.

"Personally, I take what I need and feck off but it is up to personal preference, really." Usually that's what I do, if the camp seems to be a "basic/starter" camp, then I take some food and maybe ammo and leave the rest... However if i find duped gear or hoarded vehicles, I tend to blow the whole camp up:)

Server-side Hotfix 0.7.2, Helicopter status and server info
domistyle replied to Vipeax's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Only 1 heli spawns per server for now. More will come once everything is working. I can confirm that vehicles don't save (position & inventory) and tents don't save. It happens on both of our servers, so it can't be a server problem. We have the newest beta patch, Hive hotfix and DayZ update. Still, after every single restart everything is back to old state. Vehicles are where they were when the server started. The heli we recovered 5 times now is back at spawn. The tents are as they were when the server started. The only thing that currently really saves for me is my character. We can blow all our vehicles up, restart the server and they are there again. We can take all the stuff from the vehicles, restart the server and it's there again. edit: Before someone suggest it: Yes, we did save. We even left them for hours at the same position, they still got reset. -
Assuming you play with friends, If you have: A camp in a secure location. If stuff is being taken often you need to move it. (This is very much an ongoing task, as once someone finds it they will remember it and come back again). Enough gear in the camp to restock everyone should they die. (And if someone does die and restock, you need to replace that gear again). Enough vehicles to be able to do supply runs and/or pickup fresh spawn team mates. (If your ride(s) get stolen as they often do, you need to source more) Enough parts and petrol to maintain said vehicles. A good range of high quality weapons between you. (Snipers, LMG's, assualt rifles, a good amount of silenced weapons for zombie killing in town raids). All the bells and whistles (NVG's, GPS, Toolbox, etc) Enough Ammo/food/drink to last you and your team for a long time. THEN I would say you are 'done' and your only other viable option would to be to turn to banditry. And even then that is leaving out trying to hunt down a heli for your team.

I understand tents and vehicles will be found. But I must ask you at least be kind and professional about it if you stumble on someones tent. Only take what you NEED to survive. Take my GPS and .50 cal mags i dont care! But Why must you loot my worthless makarov mags and my mountain dew and leave empty tin cans inside!!! WHY! :'( Why must you be so hateful, you take it all and you piss all over it when your done! :'( why?

Attention: Rocket. Please review the DayZ server host rules.
Treehead replied to Zoop's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I still don't understand what the devs are afraid of. Everyone of us is absolutely free to hoard insane amounts of different weapons and vehicles. Without all the players, the annoying zombies and the thirst/starvation stuff. It´s called "ArmA2 single player editor" and anyone has access to it. It´s the social stuff that we want. Perhaps we should start building a web of trust with common whitelists or something like this. -
Kicked off by BattlEye: Script Restriction #55
U.B.C.S. Ravin replied to kyriel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wonder if its something with battleye's attempt to deal with the influx of hacked vehicles. -Randomly chips in his thoughts.- If its happening with more than one car, not just choppers, then this definately sounds like a battleye trigger is not properly setup. -
Admins that cry when they die (US 1621)
Siggy (DayZ) replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yep happens to me alot as well, or you will find a server, get some vehicles and set up camp, then a few days later server restarts you try to log in and the Admin has put a ping limit on the server so you get kicked everytime you try join. -
Blockades respawning on restart...?
[email protected] replied to kawaiigirl42069666xxxxxx's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Correct, Tanks, sand bags, Vehicles, Tents, all sync up with the hive yet have a local server "Save" component that seems to break them currently. After server reset all the above will come back at their last "saved" position / state regardless of what happened to them prior to the reset and after the save -
So wipe the server weekly making us even more vulnerable to the weaponry hackers have? I rather have my 50 cal and try to take out their vehicles and aircraft...

Zoop replied to Zoop's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Just to point out, with my request to let us lock the servers, it is not because I condone attitudes like this: I want to be able to password the server for the protection of my community, not for myself. Chances are, I won't be playing the mod again until the December holidays. I'll want to keep an open whitelist, and just request that people submit applications, then I'll freely give them the password to the server. It's all just about monitoring who plays on the server. If someone hacks, then I'll know it's either someone who I've whitelisted, or someone from the whitelist who gave out the password to hackers. It will make it a lot easier to monitor who is hacking, that's all. If I see people connecting to the server whose names are not on the whitelist, I'll know something's up. It's not because we want to hoard vehicles (which is rather retarded, imo, because what's the point of hoarding if you're never going to use them all? Also, vehicles are deathtraps. I walk or I use a bicycle.) or farm weapons, it's because we're tired of having our regular players get the shit hacked right out of them because some script-kiddie is bored. -
Yes, hackers do use godmode often. I had a hacker with an AS50 thermal teleporting next to me while storing stuff in my camp. My friend paniced and started shooting a full MK 48 clip in his face, he didn't die. My friend got a bullet to the head and went to the ground instantly, I stood there watching because I already knew he was hacking, there was no point in trying to kill him. He then sat next to said friend's body and repaired all of our vehicles, and got them to full fuel. After that he teleported to someone else.

Fire Extinguisher... check. Fire Suit... check. Flame Retardant Gel... check. 911 on Speed Dial... check. With so much hacking and item duplication exploits/bugs goings on, how about a complete item wipe, to include tents and vehicles, as well as a fresh character restart each time a new version of the DayZ Alpha is distributed? After all, this is an Alpha version of DayZ. Could start doing this with 1.7.2.5...

What is it with vehicle's
VBS.Redlof.B replied to jamestrendall's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A couple days after I started playing, I was being an idiot and decided to run directly north 'til I reached the top of the map. Found a motorcycle next to a house in full condition, with almost no fuel. That's the only vehicle I've ever found, so I see where you're coming from about the whole "vehicles are hard to find" thing. But I think what everyone else is saying here is pretty much spot on - search for camps. -
Hey, I've been having vehicles in my groups camp for a while now. (inb4 OP is a vehicle hoarding faggot). There's something that keeps coming back to me though which I really wonder about: I know that vehicles despawn after a minimum of 7 days if not used, but do they also despawn if you still save them meanwhile, just not move them? Do I have to put stuff in to get it to stay, or does saving alone work? Let me know, thanks.

Zil is another one I got the other nite, the cheating scumbag was server hopping and dcing all over the place till he tried to steal one of our vehicles and I opened up on him with my L85 and he still tried to alt-f4 but was too late for the fucker he was dead. Do come back Zil you cheating scumbag so we can ban your ass.

Scout/Soul, I honestly never hacked. I keep getting kicked because I don't have all the files. I'd like to see the "proof" you talk about, considering I never hacked. I didn't spawn a jet on your server, ask Lattice where I was at that time. We were in the middle of a raid. But you fucked up and banned me just on suspicion, and now your whole clan will have to pay the price. It sucks having to kill old friends, but my hate for Soul is much more persuading. Their server name is US1208, they have multiple vehicles, and most likely have a helicopter. Anybody who reads this and wants some free loot, their camp is near Lopatino. (although they might have moved it, they will now though.)
