Druckwelle-Server - thank you for your gear

would be sad if that happened... but I think these tents weren't from admins, no vehicles around. And yes, there are a lot of dumbfucks who also happen to be admins. The admin sickness is what I call it. People with no purpose of life and no self-esteem IRL tend to be unable to handle the power. -
No idea what's going on here, I do not know what to do... We even had the UH-H1 for about a day after we had repaired it and since then we have been constantly being raped by one or two players.. If we find cars, they will be stolen within two days.. If we find our old vehicles and run to it, we would be shot down with one bullet..

When are you really gonna to stop OFF-MAP vehicle hoarders!!
osirish replied to BossFi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
+1 for exaggeration. I do not have a vehicle at the moment. I am saying that the offmap area has become a valid place. I am saying that if players want to find vehicles, it is possible to find them there. Difficult, yes, impossible, no. I am saying that this mod is supposed to be unfair, and it is supposed to be hard. I am saying that a 6 hour wipe was supposed to be in place and isn't working at the moment. I am saying that if I wanted a vehicle, I could find one, I would just have to work a little harder. Perhaps what I didn't say, was that 1st world problems like these probably won't be an issue in the stand alone game. But whatever, ... worst post you've ever seen? Good luck with that. -
I think it would be awesome if the spawn mechanics and locations were changed up a little. This applies more to the Arma 3/standalone DayZ game than the current mod. It would be awesome and add a lot of depth to the game if you could choose where you wanted to spawn, or were spawned randomly, into different locations such as cities, rural towns, highways, etc. Perhaps you could pick a "back story" you want your character to have, that determines where and what you spawn with. Ex.: Truck driver: you were fleeing the cities when the virus struck, and were speeding down the highway. You hear a gunshot in your immediate vicinity, and, momentarily distracted, looked for the source of the sound. The next you thing you remember is waking up in your totaled truck, with abandoned vehicles all around you. Ex: Banker: You barricaded yourself in your apartment in a large city when the infection started. 2 weeks in, you're running out of food, and need to leave to scavenge. The point of this is to provide more depth to the game, and more re-playability when you die. Your decision will affect your fate. For instance, spawning in a city will give you more options for scavenging, food, weapons, etc, but you'll have to deal with more players and zeds. Spawning in a farming community gives you access to hunting gear, but less players and zeds, etc etc. The whole apocalypse simulation part loses a little bit of credibility when you just spawn on the coast. I think it would add to the realism if you had to deal with your situation accordingly, without many options on what to do (since you can go anywhere from the coast...leaving a crowded city would be harder). Just some food for thought.

When are you really gonna to stop OFF-MAP vehicle hoarders!!
osirish replied to BossFi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The fix was supposed to be, vehicles in the offmap area get removed if not used for 6 hours, which I originally agreed with. Having said that, having gained some experience, I don't understand why there's a problem with using the off-map area. The in-map area has gotten too small and too predicable. We used to have a few vehicles, we actually managed to hang on to them for a few weeks, and we used them, lost them, crashed them, and then we went to repair and get them back. The early days were bliss. For the last month however, with the influx of skiddies, and since that plant/tree thingy went public, we are lucky to have a vehicle for a day, maybe even hours. The time it takes to find and repair one is usually longer than the time we manage to keep it, regardless of how well hidden it is. Since I've become more experienced at the game and learned the map, I've come to the opinion that the off-map area is a valid area. In the early days, I considered it cheap to use it, and would have made comments like the OP. Now, "in-game" map area can be grid searched in a day or two. I do it regularly. I view it as a wasteland. It is not as if it is secret, or that no one else can go there. All people need to do is gear up for it. This game is supposed to be as realistic as possible. It is supposed to be hard. It is supposed to be unfair and unforgiving. Should people be penalised just because care-bears want an easier time of things? The off-map area is only "off"-map area because the original designer didn't populate it, but it is still part of the map. The in-game map shows the off-map area if you want to scroll a bit. It doesn't have proper coord's for it, so I give that point to the care-bears. I don't like hoarders, but honestly, what is a hoarder? If you belong to a large 30+ group, them having 4-5 vehicles is not hoarding. A hoarder would be a small group of 3-4, keeping 5+ vehicles ... but it is still NOT hoarding if the vehicles are being used regularly and if players are using vehicles, they can be stolen, destroyed, and most importantly, found. Using the offmap area also opens up tactical possibilities. Using it to move from one location to another to avoid being seen, and preparing a raid on the border before heading inland to hit someone's camp, is also fair. If players go looking for vehicles, they CAN be found. I don't think people should cry because other players are making it harder for you. We get enough posts about nerfing and removing things. -
US 651 - Hacking/Cheating of some kind
Ziv7x replied to zeglassofjuice's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You guys seem legit(jrock and his group). Here's the problem..You guys need to learn to place tents/vehicles where no one looks. Every one looks on the outside / outer areas/forests of the map. try the middle of the map. works for me. not that hard. its DayZ, everything will get stolen. You will die, you WILL loose your gear. You'd be surprised how easy it is to track vehicles, considering you can hear them a mile away. then you look in the general area for a while. -
Official US 1040 Colony Thread

Been there done that. Found a camp with pretty much all the vehicles (Except 2 bikes, 1 bus and the white off-road which I had at that time) on GB #500 UK Met, killed all people in their camp and waited for restart (as I knew it would happen due to me killing the whole clan running that server). Then once the server went back up I stole their chopper, hid it in a safe spot and haven't played there since then. Back on topic, I would love to raid that camp but seeing as they track me by my GUID/IP using DayZ commander, I would probably be kicked upon entering the server. -

I'd like to see more vehicles added to DayZ
sgtcuddles replied to braaienator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think the rarity of vehicles is great as it is right now. once this game becomes a stand alone game I believe a vehicle will be easier to hold onto, as far as hopefully not having to save it all the time and also not having to worry about taking the server admins vehicle and having him rage and restart the server or something to get it back. I believe that holding onto a vehicle should be easier, of course a player could steal it at anytime, but I dont want to have to worry about my stuff getting lost if I didnt save it before a server restart. -

ZedsDeadBaby replied to braaienator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Absolutely not. Vehicles are amazing precisely because they're rare. Even a 25% increase would turn them from a rare and precious find to an every day occurrence and people would be tearing around like some kind of GTA knock-off. Keep vehicles rare. The first time you hear that engine sound and pull out on to the road will be so much sweeter if you have to work for it and don't just have a truck put under your Christmas tree by rocket and co. -
I haven't got a vehicle myself yet, except for a bicycle, but I saw videos of Zeds punching vehicles, and even destroying it. So yes, they'll attack it and eventually destroy it, but why would you let them? Punch it and take off elsewhere. No need to hide inside a broken car, right?

The Problem With Saving Location
thecoolsideofthepillow posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The saving of your location and gear upon leaving/entering any server running the mod is nice, but at the same time it is one of the many things exploitable to gain an advantage over other players. Think about it. Let's say you're on a server with a bunch of people. A group of guys has a base set up with some vehicles, a stockpile of goods and a couple of goons guarding everything. Walking up to them in the open or trying to sneak around would be suicide with how good their security is. But you can log out, find an empty server, get into the area where this team's base it set up at, log out, re-join the server where the people are, and kill them all from behind. You can also gear up by doing much the same thing. Simply go into an empty server and start grabbing everything you can. I am just glad that vehicles do not save in this fashion, or it would go from being a zombie survival game to just a massive helicopter dogfight. -

BUTLER (DayZ) replied to braaienator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
My take on this is that vehicles should be alot more common. In a zombie apocolypse 99% of all people wouldn't suddenly start crashing their vehicles. To balance things out the ability to drive a vehicle should be way harder to gain. Either by making the toolbox, fuel or car parts very rare. This would prevent hoarding of vehicles as the vehicles itself wouldn't be that rare, but the ability to drive them would. It could even be the ability to fix a car (not everyone knows how do that) that would be bound to the character. So in one move you could do two things: make the game more realistic and fix vehicle hoarding. -
Yuki shouldn't you be off looking for a heli and blowing up vehicles?

If your camps/vehicles vanish, reset the server, they should come back. Happened to us after a scheduled restart the other night, worked fine when I restarted the server again WHAT21A is that in your scripts.log file? The "hint" messages are built into the script, they show on screen in the chat/message area. So, yes as the hint says teleport, hacker for sure. setdamage 0 seems suspicous too. The only setdamage lines you should see should be like this: _id = player spawn spawn 28.07.2012 10:06:23: Player (xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - #27 awn player_alertZombies; sleep 0.5; player setDamage 1; 0.1 fadeSound 0; So, seems obvious what setDamage 0 does, if its a boolean field.

To the 3 guys who just lost their UAZ in Stary in a GB# Server
tandwan replied to edandrew95's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hacked vehicles do not always despawn, hence why there's an M1A1 on Atlanta 95 for the past week :( I won't post how they stay, or how to get them to stay, but needless to say it's not science and fairly easy to figure out. -
If the "get off 4-wheeler" animation wasnt so long ( or if passengers could just shoot from vehicles ), you guys woulda had that d00d through the windscreen ... pew pewpew!!! Very amusing ... in retrospect. I woulda cried myself quietly to sleep that night :P

Other than a few larger than average zed spawns and occasionally having to pick off people spawning in the tower from other servers or dropping by to try to find vehicles, Green Mountain is no more scary than any other part of Chernarus...in fact, Cherno is far scarier than Green Mountain.

Hmm interesting, all back now including tents and vehicles.

SalamanderAnder (DayZ) replied to braaienator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
How would more vehicles make the game LESS thrilling? Think about it. a: On a vehicle, you are far more likely to be detected and attacked by other players. Vehicles turn your group into a target, so having more of them would only increase the likelihood of PvP, increasing both positive and negative player interaction, which in my opinion, is a good thing. b: Having a vehicle STILL means that you must maintain it. This means that you have to regularly find gasoline, spare tires, engine parts, ect. Just because we want a little bit of excitement out of the game doesn't make us "Casual gamers." Remember, this is still Arma. There's absolutely nothing casual about this game. It's buggy, unstable, clunky, and requires at least a very decent PC at minimum. If you want to walk for hours on end watching trees go by, be my guest - but it's still a GAME, and an Alpha stage game at that. And again, it is simply NOT authentic for vehicles to be so rare. There are more than a billion cars in the world right now, and I'm supposed to believe that in the apocalypse, with 90% of the human population destroyed, that there would be absolutely no vehicles around? Not to mention this TREMENDOUS hoarding issue, which again, is simply NOT authentic. "Oh look I stored my car outside the playable area of the world and logged off to take a break from surviving." You want to talk about casual gamers? THAT is the kind of shit casual gamers do. A real hardcore gamer knows that once they log out, their property in this game world is subject to it, and they have to accept those consequences. But what we have here is a concentration of game assets by particular players which in turn degrades the game experience for everyone else. I shouldn't be penalized just because I have a job and a life and I can't sit and play a video game for 8 hours straight. The point isn't to make the game easier; it's a unique opportunity to make the game more accessible and more realistic at the same time. I do agree with you about helicopters though. I'm pretty sure most average civilians wouldn't know the first goddamn thing about fixing - or flying - a helicopter. -

I know WHY its duping, its because vehicles and tents aren't saving their child inventories correctly and haven't been for several weeks now. I DO save my tent after I use it. I save it like 8 times. If I have a vehicle I tend to spam saves on that at least 20 times cause I want to ensure its there when I get back. Every time, regardless of how many times I've tried to save my tent/vehicle state, when the server is restarted, the inventory reverts to a state previous to me actually having taken anything out of it. I've got a camp I only visit once in a small while due to its location. But just like my other tents I always save it after I've gone by it to grab something I might need cause I was in the area. And every time I go by the inventory is exactly the same, regardless of what I've used previously.

probably admin abuse... i see alot of that. admins kicking and banning people to get the best loot possible or just to collect all the vehicles on the map. i would try to get ahold of the DayZ devs.
