I think that a good addition to the game would be car keys. At the moment there is no safety mechanism for cars, other then a good hiding place. It would bring in a sense of security for your vehicles and it would make it more of a challenge for people to steal your car and the gear within. They would be needed to unlock cars and drive/ possibly to access the gear stored within. Car Keys would be found in the gear of the car at it's spawn point, the car would be unlocked so that the keys good be looted A tool could also be added that would allow players to break-into and hot wire cars that they have found, it would make it more interesting when finding another players vehicle as you would either have to look for the player and take the keys, or find the hot-wiring tool and use it on the car. As well as a tool that actually allows the car of the engine to be started, you made need to break in to the car, by either breaking a window, or breaking a door. Both these actions would damage the vehicle parts retrospectively:The windows and the hull Players could also leave the keys in the car, and leave it unlocked so that, say, their friends could also use the car whilst they are not playing/there. Overall it would add a sense of security when leaving vehicles as there is no such protection at the moment.

I don't like that other people have vehicles, lets remove those too! ...
-
Ok, but still I can't see a valid reason to increase the number of vehicles.

Me and my friend was hunted by a hacker sapwning zombies in Cherno just a few minutes ago. I also suspect he was the one that all of a sudden blew me to pieces. Anyway, we've been enjoying our stay so far and have set up camp with some stolen vehicles we found, but these hackers are ruining the fun. Keep up teh good work.

I don't think that was a problem: we have a new server and it spawns vehicles.

Configure Server Time + Vehicles
[email protected] replied to iAcorn's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Our other two servers had vehicles right after the first start. The new one hasn't. So what? -
I have to disagree about the realism argument. Vehicles left unattended may need work - find new engine parts etc - but they would be mostly operational. I mean how long is it supposed to have been since the zeds moved in? If we are talking anything under twenty years there would be plenty of working vehicles around which must be the case as there are piles of bodies, non-expired food etc.

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update
[email protected] replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
will this also fix the problem with no vehicles on new servers?? -
I can't see a valid reason to increase the number of vehicles. Maybe a bit but not too much, otherwise the sense of desperation would decrease. Whenever I see a car or a truck, I should feel surprised, relieved and lucky because of the survival nature of the game. If the number of vehicles increase, these feelings won't be anymore (and in a game like this would be a big loss). Also, the game would be plenty of players who use vehicles to run over zombies (like Carmageddon) and this is not good. And again, in movies and videogames about post-apocalyptic worlds there are not so much vehicles (mostly are damaged), especially when we are in a 225 km2 open world state only. DayZ is about a challenging and thrilling game where basicly you have to survive. I dont' want to play GTA mixed with Black Ops.

When are you really gonna to stop OFF-MAP vehicle hoarders!!
Redshift replied to BossFi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's simple really. Off map is not meant to be valid play area. This is evidenced by the fact that nothing is out there, not even grass. Anyone applying even a small amount of critical thinking skills will realize that this is a video game and as such has a limited amount of playable area due to various processing restrictions, so there by necessity must be a defined "edge" to the play area. Most game handle this by adding invisible walls past which you can not move, and this works in most cases. The reason we do not have these invisible walls is because of the ARMA2 base game. In that you have jets and such flying vehicles that travel very fast, and sometimes have a very wide turning radius. So the developers decided to leave the edge of the map open to allow these jets ample room to bank and turn without hitting an invisible wall and blowing up. Which makes sense for that game because there is no reason for anyone else to travel off of the map (since ARMA2 is objective based and there are no objectives "off map"). DayZ does not have jets, but it is still based on ARMA2 so the non-invisible wall off map area is still there. Because of the lack of jets in DayZ there is no legitimate reason to go off map. Defending the idea of hiding vehicles and tents off map is the essence of a carebear attitude. You have your things and you dont want to lose them, so you take them outside of the normal playing area in an attempt to hide them. You are attempting to avoid the harshness of the game, and avoid other players and the consequences of this. I have multiple tents (some work, others dont) and have had a number of vehicles that I found, repaired, and used. All of them eventually have gotten raided and stolen because I intentionally keep them on the map where you are supposed to. And it doesnt bother me because that is part of the game, just like being killed is. It happens, shrug it off and move on. But man up and play the game like it is meant to be played. -
Can I stop my server at night when none of my moderators are playing?
YoChris replied to commandercaleb's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
you sure thats your only reason? or is it at night you dont have guys online who can look over your vehicles etc. Also even if there was a hacker during the day, there is nothing you can do about it. also cheaters are on the daytime servers. not really on night servers -
Hello there, don't forget there's a plethora of unused vehicles from Arma and the DLC's that are unused in dayz and many which would fulfill this role (probable not as economical fuel wise though). It's more likely to see one of them in game at the moment rather than an entirely new vehicle. Check em out in the editor. Regardless, a nice idea for a new form of transport. rgds LoK

How about instead of removing guns...put in the ability to have ammo boxes so you can store larger quantities of ammo in tents. Maybe have ammo cans that take up 2-4 storage slots in vehicles/tents due to the weight and then you can keep your magazines after you shoot them so you will be able to reload the mags or have the option of using the empty mags to distract the zombies. HOWEVER if you toss the empty mags you can not reload back at your storage location unless you find empty mags in the spawns. Also remove the simply ridiculous option of not being able to shoot regular ammo in silenced/suppressed weapons. That in and of itself is just plain dumb. Suppression does reduce the amount of noise that none sub-sonic ammo makes but it doesn't remove the crack of the ammo breaking the sound barrier which is the bigger issue.

This game is such a rollercoaster lol! Was having a pretty crappy night as far as luck goes... was on a fresh spawn and made my way to elektro to roll the dice one last time before calling it a night. Didn't run into any players, but I wasn't finding crap for loot and was getting pretty frustrated. When I joined the server I was on (can't remember which) it was pretty lightly populated, but by the time I got to elektro it must have filled up. I was at the fire station looking for a decent weapon when I started to hear gun fire, explosions, and vehicles coming from the direction of the grocery store. An unarmed survivor comes my way a short time later, and he's got the blue & white face paint from braveheart?! uhhh, that's weird (hacker?)... He's talking to me over coms saying "friendly" and all that... I'm thinking "yeah sure, until you're armed..." I plugged him with my revolver a couple times so he'd leave. Next thing I know I see a frickn rabbit running around near me, and I didn't see it directly do this, but suddenly there's a M4 CCO SD w/ 6 mags of SD ammo on the ground in a non-typical loot spawn spot (hacker spawned?)... uhhh.... ok! Nabbed that thing as fast as I could, and ran for the hills outside of town! I almost got into a fight on the way out, but the player was being shot at by someone else so I continued my dash out of town. Started hearing sniper fire from what sounded like the steep hills near the power station, at first I was worried I was being shot at, then I considered going after the guy, but thought better to risk my prize so soon after finding it, decided my luck wasn't gonna get any better and went to bed! Anyone else notice things getting whacky the later it gets? I found a dead body with every desirable piece of gear in the game next to a blown up truck late one night last week, including an AS50 TWS... which isn't supposed to be in the game any more from what I've read... guess it was most likely a hacker or something... tho if they can spawn all that stuff, how did he die? I've run into players who wouldnt die after I shot them in the head 10 times at close range... meh... who knows lol!

bad luck mate .....keep hunting and you will find more ,that is why making friends in this game is awsome as you can cover ground faster looking for parts and securing vehicles when you need to find spares usually we have at least one person secure the area while we are off hunting for parts ,and ofc its not impossible to do it solo just makes it that much harder my advice would be to go hunting for a fully repaired vehicle if you are solo as they are not that hard to find and usually you will find a nice stash of weapons nearby also :)

So this idea kind of evolved while I was typing the last post... I didn't flesh it out there, because it was the end of the day and I was trying to pound it out before I left work (DON'T JUDGE ME!). But in any case... while I firmly belive that people should have to EDIT: SHOULD NOT HAVE TO (lol) resort to cruising the edge of the map looking for vehicles to have any chance of finding one, I've decided that it's exactly what I want to do. I hearby commission the Vehicle Redistribution Force Chernarus Economic Management Authority to go out and destroy vehicles and tents found on the outskirts of the map. Don't just steal it and move it somewhere else... destroy it so it respawns. Maybe steal ONE, and use it to find others... But it sounds fun for a number of reasons: 1) sticking it to the people that are breaking the game (to an extent, not comparing hoarders to hackers by any means, just think it needs to be limited) 2) reduce item-inflation by stoping the item-duping cycle 3) bring the joy of finding a sweet vehicle to more players 4) last, but certainly not least, the rush of raiding a bunch of camps... eventually you're going to run into the hoarders themselves doing this, and it should make for some fun PVP. If someone catches me destroying their crap, no matter how they acquired it, I would certainly expect them to defend it, and that's fun times right there. There are few parts of this game that are as fun as the rush of a close encounter/combat, so anything that gives me more of that is a good thing.

That's not what i ment... Of course you can have some vehicles as long as you use them! If you're only 3 people and have 10 vehicles i dont really see a point...
-
Part of the game, why leave vehicles out there so other players can search the map faster and more efficiently and then have a better chance of finding your base? Common sense in my book and yes we have a bunch of vehicles at camp.
-
Naaah im not into hacking. Just name what server you are on and we will find out! Yeah i've been... Its really annoying to find vehicles when people stack em up in there base! -.-'

Coords For Camps On Server that Abuses [11th] Clan = US 1846
Hellacious posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
US 1846 This clan has been reported in the past, and everything that was said about it regardless of flamers is absolutely true. The clan continues to dupe and use every exploit to their advantage. They'll ban u if u kill them and they restart a minimum of 10 times a day ( being generous ) to recover vehicles that are blown up/stolen or cause the server is lagging from all thier dupes. The server goes down almost every night when one of the clan leaders goes to bed. Cause if he cant play and have fun then why should you? Anyways, locations below.. Oldest Camp Coords = 119 , 039 Along western tree line. ^^^ This camp is filled with tons of guns of all kinds. Clan uses the tent dupe trick and everything is double upon every restart, which is literally a minimum of 10 times a day. 2nd Camp Coords : 054 , 020 ^^^ This camp was compromised multiple times, and thats when all the bans started. ( Note: theres no logs or proof that the players who invaded were hackers ). But they were banned upon killing a few of the [11th] members. 3rd Camp - Newest Camp : ^^^ Didnt bother to look up the coords, easy enough. This base is on SKYRIM MOUTAIN ( slang. not the actual name) between cherno and elektro on the giant hill covered with rocks. On the Very top facing the ocean, u can literally see the water from it. DERP I would also like to note that there are about 10 other camps on the map with 1-4 tents, because no member of this clan can trust eachother. BE WARNED --- IF U ARE THE ONLY PERSON ON BESIDES THIER MEMBERS AND ONE OF THEM DIES THERES A VERY LIKELY CHANCE U WILL BE BANNED WHETHER U DID IT OR NOT --- Will continue to post coords as bases are established. Side Note - They have at least 1 person who spawns vehicles and newest likely place is on skalisky island. HAPPY HUNTING BANDITS!!! Sincerely, Your Pal Hellacious! -
This server is so corrupt.. you only have to be on there for 20 mins to realize its fishy, the admin's who own the server; hack. There are vehicles everywhere, they ban people for looting their camps and ban people who pose a threat to the server and admins themselves. And that's where my story begins. I got banned for no reason for 'cheating and hacking', from one of the admins. Unless they provide proof of me hacking - I surely deserve to be un-banned from this server. Thanks, Gardij06 ing name Luculentkhan

I believe there's a ticket in for instances above a certain number cannot spawn vehicles. I'm not 100% sure. -
