  1. your right but so are a lot of things that are not in dayz, so lets add them as well like weaponized vehicles and incendiary grenades... why not add CS grenades and rubber rounds as well as tasers since they are used against people and would fit into simulation. See just because something is used against soft targets doesn't mean it fits well, when compared to other gear in game.
  2. I have been thinking about this for a long time and how often I witness people complaining about bandits or people killing on sight but, I also consider real situations where the few survivors who have guns and how they would potentially react in a survival situation. Some people would say "I wouldn't kill for food." while others would shoot you just because you have a bigger pack or items they could utilize. In this sense I do consider DayZ to be a survival simulator as opposed to just senseless survival/pvp. So here are my top 10 survival rules for DayZ and real-life in a respective situation: Rule #1) In a survival situation consider EVERYONE a threat unless you personally know them. This means shoot first ask questions later - killing someone on sight doesn't make you bad because 9 times out of 10 they will do the same to you. Rule #2) Not to state the obvious but, find a gun above anything else. A gun will save your life, food and water should be secondary to protection. If you can't protect yourself you're dead anyway. Rule #3) Stay out of main cities unless absolutely necessary. You will find more people are there to take what you have - scavenging previously high population areas is risky. Rule #4) Power is always in numbers. Being alone is an eventual death sentence and in most cases results in a rather quick death. Other people are not the only threat. Anything from falling off stairs to trapping yourself in a corner are easy ways to die when alone. So invite some friends to play DayZ. Convince them, beg them and beat them to join you. Rule #5) Always use the trees as cover. I can not stress enough how excellent trees/bushes/forests are for concealing your activity. This goes hand in hand with making campfires. Rule #6) Carry additional and alternative weapons and ammo. Varied weapons allow for back up in case you run out of primary and secondary ammos. Rule #7) Find an ax, a knife and matches. Why? Because making camp fires and hunting live animals is safer than running to town for food plus, meat heals for more than double what beans do and you get much more from wild animals than you would from a canned food spawn. Rule #8)The best areas to find items are actually outside the cities, in tents, placed by other players. With patience and perseverance you can find all sorts of stashed loot and vehicles in the outskirts of the main map bordering the forest and the "debug forest". Rule #9) Crawling can save your life. Silence can often be a savior when dealing with Zeds and even actual players. That being said, don't shoot your gun unless you have to. Rule #10) Whenever you notice a dead body hide, get to a safe vantage point and check your surroundings, snipers and bandits alike will often use fresh kills to bait curious and greedy players.

Whats going on with US 1560?

What good reasons are there to lock a server? You can't just expect people to abandon the servers they played on and the items they worked for like vehicles and tents.
  4. Hello, I realize that there are a lot of threads complaining about hackers. I am not here to complain, but rather to leverage my power as a consumer to notify Rocket and Bohemia Interactive that I will not purchase the standalone until they can prove that hacking will not be an issue with the standalone. They need to prove it by resolving the chronic hacking issue in the mod. I understand that, as a mod, Rocket may not have access to Arma2 files or have any control over how hacking is handled with Arma2, however, Bohemia Interactive does. As both entities are supporting the DayZ transition to a standalone game, I am expecting more from BI to fix hacking. BI is supporting the transition to a standalone game due to the success of the mod. If the more than 1M players registered for the mod purchased the standalone at even 10 dollars, that is more than $10,000,000 at stake. Hacks fall into two categories: modifications that the user can make to their own computer and files, such as changing textures to make players highly visible and aimbotting; and modifications that require server interaction, such as the ability to spawn vehicles and aircraft and the way that damage is dealt to players on the server (insta-kill). If you want to sign this petition, please reply "signed". By signing the petition, you are stating that: (1) I understand that hacking is an issue with all online multiplayer games and that nobody has ever been able to achieve 100% success in stopping hacking. (2) I understand that player-side hacks such as wallhacking and aimbotting will likely never be fixed. (3) While accepting that hacking will never be totally resolved, I still expect to play without significant disruption. (4) I will not purchase the DayZ standalone game until such time that all server-side hacks have been resolved. BI and Rocket need to recognize that every "signed" reply here is another loss to the expected revenue for the development of this game, and that loss in revenue is the motivating factor for them to either fix this themselves or pressure BattleEye to come up with a fix. Thanks, [HIT] Phoenix
  5. I love how there is no mention on the new TXT files in the BattlEye folder for the server owners. What are they? Vehicles.txt and Remoteexec, txt

    Stupid bikes always disappear

Don't be surprised if the bike reappears next server restart. Vehicles and tents are wont to come and go as they please.
  7. Buffjesus

Where have you found your NVG's?

ive found countless off people ive killed / tents / vehicles etc... but ive legit found 2 off crash sites. one south of stary (was an L85 at this crash site too :P ), one north west of vybor
  8. SPESSMEHREN (DayZ)

No vehicles spawning on new server.

Our old server had vehicles for about a week after it came online, but vehicles started vanishing (not stolen, not blown up, they just, vanished on a server restart). Sometimes they'd vanish altogether, other times they'd turn into other vehicles. After seven days none of the vehicles that vanished respawned. After 14 days none respawned. There were only 3 vehicles serverwide by that time. None of them were stored off-map. Is this a part of that bug?
  9. and explain how and why AMRs fit the setting of Dayz. yet there are barely any weapons with PSO scopes, let alone, wrecks of heavenly armor vehicles.
  10. .50 cals can be determined as AMRs, Anti-Material-Rifle, meaning they are powerful enough to damage/disable vehicles... for example, a 12.72mm round of Depleted Uranium is dense enough to go through anything, and I mean ANYTHING. The AS50 and M107 are MORE than powerful enough to kill a man in one shot... irl, you shoot a guy with a .50, and there is nothing left, except a big splotch on the wall where his body exploded. If you need proof, go on the net.

Remove zombie re-spawn, around player radius

Umm.....No. (good idea, OP, I agree) as for THIS guy, hell no. Do you realize how hard it is to render 100 people? and you want one million + buildings + grass + trees + other players + vehicles + crashed vehicles? FUCK. THAT.
  12. ixtilion

Why the Hero skin is useless

Medic skin for healing. Engineer skin for repairing vehicles. Make them stackable with bandit and hero skins. Example : bandit + medic = profit =
  13. in real life you have a wider range of view, that monitor+fps can't cover, that +hermits like me love to play it safe in 3rd person view, always know what's around me. but since you mentioned free vehicles, I'd rly like to have a go for real at a chopper, it taken? :V
  14. I can also confirm that this is going on. Gathered up some new equipment yesterday, put it in a vehicle, moved vehicle, saved it...all new equipment was gone after the next server restart (all of the previous stuff was still there, though) and the vehicle was in the previous location. However, I did find a bicycle post-patch, and it appears to save and stay where I want it. Could there be be an issue with vehicles that were acquired/saved pre-patch?
  15. Can also confirm - UK123 just updated today to 1.7.2.5 and our tent is now empty and re-empties itself after every restart. Also all our vehicles have disappeared. I suspect back to where we found them. Our other regular server, UK190 is also in a groundhog day state where every time we login everything is back where it was when the issue started happening. Really surprised there's no word from the devs on this issue - it's a total gamebreaker, way worse than the artifacts - you can work around them, but lack of reliable storage/vehicles is really putting us off playing. Also the item duping is getting a bit silly - if rocket launchers weren't also broken we could be having a field day with our infinitely replenishing stocks of rockets. I suspect a full wipe of vehicles and tents may be on the cards to clean up after this mess
  16. What is wrong with you? You keep posting this, but it's not just our server. It's battleye you know. You should consider yourself lucky that you are were(?) on a server where the clan doesn't horde all the vehicles. Like I've said before: I lost the white offroad and my tractor to battleye #something, was kicked off the server, loaded back in and it was gone. I don't even reset the server, I wait for the scheduled resets. And as a clan we lost the Huey. We were all kicked for Battleye #55 while in the air, and now It's gone. Did we do that to ourselves? Hmm?

Reduce Blood Recovery of Cooked Meat

There is. Items Zombies Players Vehicles All of these are reasons to not sit in the forest playing "lets shoot all the pigs and camp near a water source". Its a good idea to have a "home base" like that that you can return to, but if you choose to stay out there, then thats your choice. There are plenty of reasons to go into civilisation. Also i love that you tried to make getting "matches/hunting knife/hatchet/water bottle" is somehow easier from a city then just piling a bag full of blood bags with full health capabilities from each. Self blood bagging = no. It was designed to persuade players to work together, and more items like that will come. Plus its quite a hard feat in real life to give yourself a blood transfusion.
  18. I guess you are right and that makes sense. If people can't play E-Z Mode then they won't play. As being an online gamer for 18 years now, they have changed A LOT in the recent years. I guess the more of a challenge the less a lot of people like it. 3rd person is kind of cheap IMO, because u can easily check around corners and over walls. We should have to use the environment around us, like maybe have to look at the window of the super market to see if we see someone's reflection around the corner, or if shadows was mandatory have to use them. Its just everyone has their own likes and dislikes and it seems more people love 3rd person than the people who would rather have it off. Guess I will turn 3rd person back on, leave crosshairs on, leave waypoints on and hope I get some players. I've even offered people vehicles or gear because my group I play with have been playing for months now and have collected more than enough gear. But then you get the people who love to browse the forums and are quick to yell duper or vehicle hoarder when they have no idea. Thank you all for the input.

    Stupid bikes always disappear

I don't get this problem. Are you playing on high-pop servers where vehicles cause ground-wars? Or low-pop, where people know how to get a vehicle easily? Only way I have encountered vehicles going away is server resetting, when you don't save the vehicle. Or when people take it and hide it elsewhere.
  20. People who hack and glitch for equipment and vehicles = Gamers of the current generations mindset. They'd rather have an easy ride than feel anything the game was supposed to emphasize. A shame, but far from the worst. They're ruining the experience for themselves more than others. Nothing to worry about when put next to: People who hack to directly target legitimate players (teleports, genocide etc) = Halfwits. People who have been raised in a way that their mental age is unable to break the 14 year mark. People who have willingly surrendered their right to any fair treatment.

    Easter Eggs in DayZ

I forget where exactly but somewhere along the far west side of the map near debug there is a cluster of bushes/small trees that if you fly overhead in a helicopter spell out a name, and I believe it's the name of the map creator/developer but I'm not sure. My group just happened across it one day flying over looking for camps and hidden vehicles.
  22. So my multiplayer survival game with team-based tactical combat and team-based structure building and team-based cooperative mechanics will have completely individual storage? Why? There's absolutely no justification for that. It's neither authentic nor conducive to the survival mentality. It's supposed to be "safety in numbers" not "safety in numbers but make sure you hide your own shit in your own tent in case someone you know gets shot while you're at work tomorrow." Again, you're speaking from an entirely solo, individual, single-player perspective. If I pull up to a firefight in a pick-up with 3 friends and jump out and get shot in the head, you want my pick-up truck to disappear while my friends stand there stranded? And my enemies have no opportunity to steal it? I assume that's not what you're suggesting? But it is... Tell me how a mechanic functions that guarantees enemies can steal my possessions or friends who are with me have an opportunity to reclaim vehicles that I was driving, yet somehow also prevents me from doing the same after re-spawning? I completely disagree with you. Other than the "newb griefing" which I'll ignore since I don't understand what it has to do with any of that other stuff, those things are in fact relatively critical to the DayZ experience. They are in their infantile states, and will certainly be fleshed out and expanded upon in stand-alone when rocket adds things like underground structures and permanent squad storage, both of which he has discussed at length. You are critiquing them in their unfinished, experimental stages. Storing gear to support a larger squad and recruit new members while vying for limited resources and precious vehicles is most definitely "core gameplay" in DayZ. I know it's fun to make sweeping generalizations and rely on the presence of duplication bugs which will certainly cease to exist in the very near future to make your point, but don't. Nobody has "infinite guns and ghillie suits" unless they are explicitly and deliberately exploiting the bugs in the game. I've worked for months in a team of 5-6 and we have only had 3-4 ghillie suits between us the entire time - same with the rarest guns. You're conflating the issue of item duplication with the desire to work in a team to ensure your long term viability and the strength of your squad and its ability to recover from losses. Do not. This is absolutely bullshit and is based entirely upon a mentality which assumes that gear is the only thing of worth in the game. When my 42-day-old character died I came as close to weeping over a game as I have since I was a child. And my friend who accidentally ran me over in our Land Rover? Got physically sick. And neither reaction had fuck all to do with the "stuff" I was carrying at the time. We cared about the player. The story. The history. That's what we lost and it broke both our hearts (his a bit more than mine since he was the drunk jackass who backed over me but I digress). Gear is not why I strive to survive, so having some waiting for me after I respawn doesn't really take the edge off death in the way you imply. No, and no. I disagree with this entire paragraph in almost every way so I'll just say that and not spend 15 minutes picking it apart. Roguelikes are fun, but they're also generally single player games, with short term (relative to an MMO) play-through's and become repetitive. DayZ must adapt rogue experience to a multiplayer, team-based game with long term sustainability and replay-ability which means long-term goals that are achievable even if you drink from the wrong fountain or read the wrong tome. Nobody is going to play DayZ for 12 months let alone years if every death is a complete "reset" on their entire experience. That's just not an MMO anymore. Roguelike, right? Like as in similar, not identical? DayZ has the hints of this progression right now. Very roguelike at the start - brutal, lose everything, start fresh, where-the-fuck and how-the-fuck kind of feel; but, with effort you can work against that and find your way into a group and work together and cooperate and then things change and the game morphs and you're playing at a different level and it's an entirely different experience and to me that implies a depth and breadth of design that needs to be explored, expanded upon, refined and polished not quashed before it has had a chance to flourish. Yes we need to fix duplication exploits. That goes without saying. But that's not a reason to abandon entirely the depth and appeal of long-term storage and player built structures and compounds.s I think rocket is on my side in this one ultimately, so I'm going to wait and see what he does and we can revisit the conversation in stand-alone. ;)

No vehicles spawning on new server.

Answering a customer's question is never problem or burden. The issue that new servers are facing is that no vehicles spawn at the moment, ground or air. Concerning servers that have vehicles already, if a vehicle is destroyed or malicious intent is detected by the central database (such as leaving a vehicle off the map so no one finds it), then after 7 days the vehicle should automatically re-spawn at it's original spawn location. Hope that answers your questio.

    New Major BattlEye Anti-Cheat Features

This is nice, once carefully tuned it should allow to effectively tripwire the server for any behavior that is not expected from a DayZ client. This is not foolproof but it should allow servers to kick/ban automatically anyone who spawn ammo crates, vehicles, bombs, or force teleports. Well basically any behavior that is reserved to the server. Nice finding! Now someone need to write the proper configuration for this option and keep it maintained as the mod is updated.
