  1. DISCLAIMER: This post is HUGE. If you "tldr-ed" it then dont comment on it. Just a list i came up with of stuff that i think could make the standalone better. Its pretty much just a bunch of ideas and mechanics. Lets jump right into it. Random Encounters This is just stuff that has a random chance to occur to the player(s) at any time and place, just as you randomly find crashed helis or cars. - NPC jets flying at high altitude. They wont fire on you, they are there purely for amibance and immersion. These aircraft are a reminder that there is still someone out there and that humans are still alive somewhere, untouched by the virus. - Abandoned camps/roadblocks These are places where refugees tried to setup camps or defenses but were eventually overrun. The camps have the same chance to spawn as crashed helis and cars. They will spawn completely empty of anyone except dead bodies and maybe zombies. You will be able to find basic supplies and a plethora of meds. The camps will consist of ruined tents, dead bodies, and maybe one operable car. They will vary in size and location and can spawn either in the middle of roads or just in the middle of nowhere (forests, plains, islands, etc.). -The Zombie Hoard These will be random groups of zombies that have a chance to spawn far away from survivors and will wander around the countryside looking for survivors to munch on. They should consist of groups of fifty and they ill be by far the scariest thing in the game. They will also have a chance to spawn near player built settlements (once those are in the game) and if they are killed off or they see a player, they will spawn more frequently. These zombies assure that the players are never safe at any given time. - Prepper maps You find maps all the time, but every map will have a 2% chance to spawn with markers already on it. These will be the maps that were left behind by people who prepped for a socio-economic disaster that would destroy society. The markers will lead to stashes where you can either find empty tin cans or a treasure trove of supplies/guns/ammo. Vehicle customization/crafting A crafting system that will allow you to modify vehicles and craft items. -Vehicles ( remember the bus from the dawn of the dead remake?) You will be able to add things such as plating on windows so no one can see into the car and so zombies cant pull you out. You cant cut a hole in the roof of the car where a survivor can stand up and shoot out of. You can fortify your bumper so you can ram things without damaging the engine block, maybe add spikes so you can ram other cars, thus impaling your car into them so they cant move. Perhaps you can also add 360 degree floodlights, you will be a beacon to survivors and zombies, but your situational awareness at night will improve drastically. Basically, cars should not only be tools for transportation but also defence. Your vehicle should be unique to you and losing it should make you ragequit and never want to play DayZ again. - Simple crafting I find a knife. I also have an Enfield and a bit of rope. Now my Enfield has a bayonet. I find a flashlight. My M4 has an RIS system. Now my M4 has a flashlight. I have a knife and find a metal pole. Now i have a spear. Just VERY simple stuff like this that will add to the gameplay. Improved Zombies and mechanics -Difficulty Zombies must become more of a threat. Survivors will have to team up or die, and should always be in a constant state of fighting for survival. Zombies should be able to break windows and pull you out of cars if the windows arent boarded up. Their bites should have some sort of lasting effect even hours after you recieved them. You should have to avoid any contact with zombies at all costs. Zombie bites should be locational. They wont just damage your player overall, but they can fracture an arm, break a rib, cause a concussion, all of which will have a different effect on the player. -Survivors that died from zombies will come back as them. Imagine your friend gets bitten, you dont have bandages. You load him into your UAZ and try to get the hell out of cherno. Right as your are approaching Nadhezino you notice your fellow survivor had died a few minutes earlier, but hes getting up. Your friend sinks his teeth into your neck, you freak out, crash into a tree, and the car explodes. Once a survivor dies to wounds from zombies his corpse will become controlled by the zombie AI and he will get up and attack what was his "friends" just a few minutes before. This is just a nice touch that could be very easily implemented and would add alot to the game, including a huge sense of irony For the love of god port some of ArmA 3's amazing new features. -The movement system In ArmA 3 there are many different ways to fight besides just pressing "q" and "e" to lean left and right. You can peak over walls while prone, duck lower when your crouched and even go into a last stand mode. This will add a whole new dimension to firefights and make them as great as they can possibly be. -Weapon and outfit customization While watching the ArmA 3 E3 presentation, i got a glimpse of the inventory system. There was an individual slot for your headgear and even your vest i think. You should be able to control what your character is wearing on his legs, feet, torso, and head. This ill become a huge part of the game in my opinion, i'll mention why later. Weapon customization is a very simple matter. I shouldnt have to find a silenced m4 just to have a silenced weapon. Maybe i have an m16 and i like its accuracy and barrel length more than the M4. This can be easily resolved by taking the silencer and putting it on my m16. Next, i find an AKS Kobra. Im really liking that holo sight so i take it and mount it on my m16. Keep some of that good old ArmAness -People dont realize what a huge impact ArmA has on DayZ, it determines how weapons handle, how your character moves, the bullet physics, etc. All those things i just mentioned should not change at all in DayZ standalone (except for maybe animations). I still want it to be hard to hit something at 200 meters, i still want to have to zero my gun, and i still want players to die with one well placed shot to the head. BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FIX ATV PHYSICS. Being that DayZ will be built on the same engine all these features should be relatively easy to carry over. Clothing -Clothing, armor, and weather system Clothing should be a very important part of the game and you should have to adapt it based on what you're doing and how the weather is. If its raining, a raincoat will prevent you from getting cold. If its cold, a jacket will prevent you from getting sick BUT it will slow you down, making you more vulnerable. But because the jacket is thick, zombies will have a hard time biting you. If you have a leather vest, you become more resistant to zombie bites and you will seldom bleed from the torso. If youre in a fire fight a kevlar vest could save your life. If youre fighting zombies a right shield could help push them back. A helmet will protect you from shrapnel and ricochets. Steel toed boots will make it possible to kick down doors but will also increase how loud you are. The possibilities are endless! Everything will have a pro and a con. Overhauled medical system -This will create an entirely new plethora of problems that survivors have to deal with. Bandages only SLOW bleeding until it stops. Breaking a leg will take time to heal, you'll be slower, but with a splint you'll at least be able to walk and drive. An electric shock will take a person out off unconsciosness but will also take time to execute. All medical actions should have custom animations of course. There should be alot of consequences for all damage taken. EX: you get shot in the arm but luckily your buddy kills the assailant. You have to pull the led out of your arm with some pliers (farcry 2 anyone?). Afterwards, you have to bandage it to slow the bleeding, which will eventually stop on its own. If you dont have antiseptic, you have a 30% chance of your arm becoming infected. But you dont have any antiseptic. You must search for antibiotics before the infection slowly worsens. You find some but your blood is at 7000 by the time you do. THANKFULLY blood cells multiply and you will slowly regenerate blood over hours of play. Heres the awesome part: You bled from your arm and put a bandage on it. A bloody bandage will now be displayed on your characters arm. Wherever your character gets injured, it should look like he actually got hurt. GORE :D Damage should be locational, and will affect the body parts where the damage occurs. If i shoot a survivor with an AS50 i want to see that survivor be obliterated by a .50 caliber round. If i headshot a zombie with an axe, that head should come clean off. If the dude with the AS50 misses and hits your leg, your leg gets obliterated and the wound is fatal. You will be able to crawl around and still shoot in the last 30 seconds before your fatal wound renders you totall useless. You get shot in the torso and live? Your bloody shirt will be a reminder of what happened both to you and to survivors you meet. Basebuilding -Underground bases shouldnt be the only option, but they should be the most safe. Building them will take alot of time and planning but itll be worth it because, well, its underground lol. These should take alot of manpower, time, and supplies to construct. Undeground bases should only be one option. Additionally, you should also be able to explore like a subway or something, and build a base there. -Above ground You can modify already existing structures. Board up thier windows, add lighting, put up a perimeter fence, add sandbags to the roof, put up floodlights. The idea is to erect a fortified position similar to the one in 28 days later, when the soldiers are hiding out. You can also build an above ground base from scratch if you want, but it will take more manpower, more supplies, and some cars. When imagining these bases, think about the favelas made up of tin houses in poorer regions of the world. These should look like they were built out of desperation, and they can be gradually be improved up by adding more fortification and stuff. Capturing Areas -many people have already suggested this. Basically, if a group of survivors can take and hold a certain section of a city or a town, Zombies will stop respawing as long as people remain there, or some sort of fortifications are built. New Areas to loot Subways and military bunkers, that is all. Both locations will always be dark and require nightvision or flashlights. Also: -Government buildings (think about fortifying the white house or a prime ministers home) these give a glimpse of the political infastructure that once existed. -Police stations will function as "firestations" function now. Loot Spawning - loot should spawn in a matter of different ways. On shelves, in drawers, in lockers, in refrigerators, in safes. Think of the way you loot buildings in skyrim. Guns and combat -Variety All weapons should make sense. That means, that i should have a very slim chance of finding an m4 in a former soviet republic. I'm talking about being able to find like 8 different ak variants, mosin nagants, eastern european weapons. -More low tier weapons Pistols should play a much bigger role in the game and be much more common. Having a rifle should be a luxury and having a military rifle should be even more so. Military weapons should be exclusive to military instalations like police stations, airfields, road blocks, etc. Everywhere else, you will find mostly pistols with some scattered hunting rifles and a wide variety of shotguns. Also, melee weapons should be literally EVERYWHERE, as pretty much anything can function as a blugeon. Crafting will also affect weapons as well. Well thats basically it. This is the result of playing 400hrs of DayZ and me wanting the standalone to be the best game it could possibly be. Cheers. EDIT: Almost forgot, make the game modable. Allow things like texture packs and graphical mods.

    Despawning vehicles

The glitch where vehicles despawn also makes tents despawn so you can confirm if your tent is there and know your vehicles were stolen. Get over it and go find them again?
  3. TheMadBomba

    Bomber for hire

Firstly, we didn't travel half way across the map to kill you/grief you. You put your camp in the most god aweful position ever? How do I know? Well my clans camp also was there (until yesterday), as was the guys from about 3 other servers which we've used (mainly for travel). Avallac sometimes has trouble connecting to our server so he was using yours to get up to where ours is on our server whilst he couldn't get onto ours. Hence why he was using a bloomin pedal bike. Want to accuse him of hacking? Want to accuse him of using a ESP hack? If he has an ESP hack then he can see all vehicles on the map, what sort of moron would go around on a pedal bike if he could see all the vehicles. He was using your server to transport, hence why he didn't want any trouble, but your lot started shooting first forcing him to retaliate. And feel free to give the server logs to the devs, We found those guns in those tents, I didn't even know they were hacked in to begin with (only played DayZ for maybe 2 weeks now and never played ARMAII before DayZ so I wouldn't know that stuff). I personally picked it up through ignorance. I'm using a basic AS50 now as I said, you can personally come check my character right now if you want. And i'll thank you for not trying to get this thread closed, I used your server as an example of the servers/camps i've destroyed, It was your guy who decided to come in here spouting accusations first. This threads about me being open for bombing things. It's server GENERAL. Not Server REPORTING. If you want to continue to try to get this thread closed I can go report you for it if you want, wouldn't be hard considering you've admitted to doing it in this thread.

    Hovercraft?

So I was just thinking of something that would make water vehicles a little more useful, maybe if they added a hovercraft vehicle similar to the PBX size holding 2-4 people with an open top, it could also hold some gear, but not too much since the land water versatility of the vehicle is already really nice, the vehicle wouldn't be too quick and would be really hard to master turning n such, since there is so much drift on turns with hovercrafts. This would make island bases more accessible and usable, giving islands a little more use than they have right now, it would be a great vehicle to raid any of the coastal towns, and if you are really daring you could use it further inland too, but it wouldnt be as useful. making the vehicle hard to navigate with would counter act its seemingly OPness. please leave your thoughts comments and concerns :) thank you

    No one up north! WHYYYYYYY?!

I have been on many servers driving vehicles along the coast roads SEARCHING for people to give gear to and have found no one. Conversely I was up in the far northwest corner one day and heard a vehicle but never saw it or the person/people driving it. The closest I came most recently to seeing someone NOT in the group I was with; was on US 870 (before name change) and seeing a bus driving down by Guglovo and when I went to take a look at the driver and the bus to decide if I should sit tight and take a shot or sit tight and not be seen I dropped a grenade when I thought I was pulling up my DMR scope and ended up loosing about 6k blood and the game going ghostly white till I got a transfusion. That was 3 weeks ago with 15 people on a night time rotation in the server and since then with at least double that I have seen no one. Seen lots of dead bodies but haven't seen the killers.
  6. We found this today didn't last long though your guys come running up on us after awhile (not accusing you of hacking as we were in the same spot as we found the truck) we had just finished repairing it as the Engine, Hull and Fuel Tank were red. I hope you enjoy it and our 2 trucks, Which we assumed we also stole from you guys as it seems a lot of the vehicles we've come across on this server are controlled by your clan (including the helicopter, which was lucky as we tried to take it down but it moved out of view) Thanks for sinking our corpses too it sets precident for when we meet you again and if we find your base camp. We've already cleared out a few (not saying they're yours) but it seems your guys keep all their equipment on the vehicles. It may be your server and you might pay the running costs but how on earth did you know who stole your truck (with regards to your comment in bold?) if you're checking log files then that is pretty much admin abuse and of course you might claim to be whiter than white but there are people on this game who have hackers pinpoint players using that wonderful hack you listed above, to keep the servers in check. We like your server to be honest we lasted a good few hours with our trucks before we lost everything, but that's the nature of the beast you can have it all one second then gone the next. Your boys seem to get their shit back pretty quick though.

    BattlEye New TXT files

They look like cfg files to prevent Accessing more zombies and the vehicles one will stop spawning equipment and such. New Feature?

    No goddamn vehicles

I recon it's the same issue, streaming objects from Hive is not working as intended, dunno why its only specific servers.. My server is also about 8 days old, i had vehicles 1 day and then they disappeared to never come back.
  9. I'll be completely honest, your post confused me a bit, so I'm going to try to reply as best I can. Please forgive any misunderstandings that I may have. Yes, I enjoy tents, I'm not trying to hide that fact. They provide alot of functionality to the game that allows players to further advance their goals. Unfortunately, like many such as yourself have pointed out, they diminish the effect of "Permadeath" in DayZ. Despite this, they provide a sense of permanence, a way to begin rebuilding a shattered world if you will. If you happen to have viewed Rocket's SideStrafe or Machinima interviews, you'd notice that this is one of the "End-game" options that he would like to open up in the future of DayZ. To your first point, I don't actually see how this would address the issue of players re-gearing after death, which is an issue - that I agree with you on. I think a fact that many people ignore though, is that inventory, both in tents and vehicles, opens up more gameplay options. If you've read my previous posts on this thread, I can't really think of any way else to make that clearer, you either see my point and acknowledge it, or completely disagree with it to a point that I can't convince you otherwise, so I'm not going to go into much more detail on it. To your second point, I've also already addressed this and how it would be completely detrimental to many forms of team-play, almost to the point where it's game-breaking. I've mentioned organized group play, but what about all the traders and merchants? The removal of external storage invalidates their play styles as well. The way I see it, is removing tents would be a step backwards in terms of gameplay. (And no matter how many times people quote Rocket's "Anti-game" line, it's undeniable that this is still a game, you launch it via the executable file and use it for entertainment value). I don't think you realize just how much external storage does for LEGITIMATE gameplay, in my personal opinion it completely outweighs the cheating death aspect. Like I said, cheating death is something that needs to be addressed (not just storage, but Alt+F4 as well), but it absolutely cannot be a knee-jerk reaction because part of the playerbase is upset. Knee-Jerk reactions kill games, plain and simple. Moving onto your second paragraph, this is where I became confused. I don't know exactly what you're addressing here, or how having a guard on your tents is an exploit. Perhaps you can clarify? I also already addressed the matter on your third mini-paragraph, because 1. If only the owner of the tent could deposit / withdrawl, it essentially makes the tent a bank, which makes it immune to raiding, which is (at least in my opinion) against the nature of the game 2. If only the owner of the tent could deposit, but others could withdraw, you still don't solve the problem of players re-gearing at tents. A team would go out scavenging, give all their items to the tent owner to deposit, and when he's finished he logs off. The only way to counter this would be to camp their tents 24/7 and wait for an opportunity to kill them I don't believe tents are "cheap" or "easy-mode" by their nature, I think you're just ignoring all the benefits they bring to the game. You do have a point though, which I have agreed with multiple times when replying to multiple people, tents shouldn't be an extra-life. The problem is how to solve it without decimating multiple playstyles. I really can't make it any clearer than that.

Relogged and Spawned in Prig, Kept Inventory

Yeah, the server update will do it, a bug that "kills you" will do it. It's happened to me 2/3 time I've last played. Not to mention I think the update may have reset a few vehicles and tents afterwards because I'm missing a decent amount of gear but not all of it. Certainly makes my job a whole lot more difficult when this happens.

    Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update

see that what i am looking for fix on tents/vehicles =D
  12. Just looking for a few people to group up with, make camp, and repair some vehicles for town raiding. I like to play on US GMT-6 or 5 servers. I am not an expert by any means but I do like to play to the best of my ability and avoid death at all costs. Message nefariousvex on steam if this sounds good to you.

    No goddamn vehicles

Same problem here. German Server, 4 days old, hosted by PGS, which is the same company that is also behind gamed. No vehicles whatsoever, 8 people walked like 5000 miles the last 4 days.
  14. I think what I, and a lot of people like about DayZ is the level of immersion you can feel that's inherent to the nature of the game itself. These are the elements of the game that I'd like to see preserved: 1. Permanent death / item loss. 2. Combat that often has serious consequences even if you survive, and is therefore often best avoided. 3. A heavy emphasis on travel/navigation. 4. Having to attend to basic survival needs beyond avoiding/treating injuries. 5. Having good reason to distrust (and a strong incentive to kill) other survivors. 6. (Relative) safety in numbers, provided your your companions are trustworthy and somewhat competent. 7. Gameplay that creates stories organically through the game mechanics themselves, with little emphasis on scripted content. IF the SA were going to be rpg style levelling there'd need to be scaling. Assume all characters start out directly from being white collar lazy and slightly overweight. 1. Improving accuracy with handguns unless at <7 ft which improves over time (worst level is only at most 25% worse than best level). 2. Terrible recoil spray from full auto weapons until the character gets used to it (worst level is only at most 25% worse than best level).. 3. Falling from low heights no longer breaks your legs, and you can level up shock absorption (like parkour training). 4. You gain the ability to jump higher as you increase your strength. 5. As your hunger meter rises, your ability to focus/do stuff decreases, but the hunger meter slows down its use the more you play/get in shape in game. However, it speeds up dramatically with prolonged sprinting/strenuous activity. This would encourage energy saving behavior which would be what "survivors" would be doing in a true post apocalyptic scenario. These things being said, you also need negative repercussions to just training for hours . . increased needs for consumables (obviously), but they need to incorporate soreness for pretty much ALL skill training. However, characters still need to be permadeath, and "bullet resistance" should not be something you can train. You might be able to train hand to hand combat against zombies though. Make the difference big enough that you can feel it, but not so big that an experienced character can easily overpower a new character if they're comparably equipped and go heads-up. Player skill would remain the dominant factor. Though I think the skill differences between trained and untrained could be a bit more stark when it comes to utility skills, like repairing vehicles and electronics, building/dismantling fortifications, first aid/medicine, locksmithing, explosives/demolition and skinning/butchering. These are skills may be helpful in surviving your first few days, but probably aren't essential ... but eventually become near-essential for doing some of the more advanced stuff in the game, like scavenging high-value (or widely distanced) sites effectively and efficiently, establishing your own semi-permanent base, or raiding other players' bases.

    No goddamn vehicles

Tbh you are talking about lost vehicles. I/We are talking about /new/8 days/ old servers which never had any vehicle spawns.

    No goddamn vehicles

We just got an anwser from the dayz team and im starting to get upset. The anwser only states something about LOST VEHICLES and we have to live with which has nothing to do with OUR current problem. I woulda say whoever anwsered there - just took one of the pre-defined dropdown anwsers.
  17. Hey everyone, been playing Dayz for a few months now and all of my groups have ended up kicking the bucket, so I am left alone once again! Where shall I begin? I am seventeen. I am on almost all day, until school starts up again, though that is obvious, my play times ranging from 10 am to 4 am, I rarely sleep. I am equiped with nice gear as of the moment and only need a blood bag to stay fit, though I can just hunt something for food. I try to be friendly with most players, though I keep guns on them at all times, then when I am in a group I go full bandit, no need to get friendly when you have your buddy. I dont have gear stashes, or vehicles, but I am usually lucky, hell I have found two Saws, A Bizon, three Fals, a Barret, and mountain dew(Even though that means little) I live in the states and use skype, though I prefer to use the Teamspeak channel that one of my buddies runs. Skype: cartoonkarl Steam: bloodwolf I really don't know what else to say, please add me on skype and give me feedback on the thread.

The announced base building + Suggestions!!

It's noticeable that generators will be introduced, cause when you grab a jerrycan, and mouse over it, the description states, A 20-litre Jerrycan used to refuel vehicles or power generators.
  19. Chambers (DayZ)

(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast

If that's true - fantastic. Saves me the PITA of finding vehicles if I want to go south. It's the DayZ public transit system!

    Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update

I am still seeing this at Starey mil tents, seems worse than before (I didn't get close enough to them to see exactly what was causing it). A flush cleared it though. I definitely updated all files. Also vehicles are not saving properly, they change into other types or disappear completely on server restarts.
  21. Vehicles and tents are both serverbound
  22. eighter i got it wrong, or vehicles dont transfer over servers.
  23. You got vehicles? Got a As50 Tws that i found in some tent
  24. Hello, I realize that there are a lot of threads complaining about hackers. I am not here to complain, but rather to leverage my power as a consumer to notify Rocket and Bohemia Interactive that I will not purchase the standalone until they can prove that hacking will not be an issue with the standalone. They need to prove it by resolving the chronic hacking issue in the mod. I understand that, as a mod, Rocket may not have access to Arma2 files or have any control over how hacking is handled with Arma2, however, Bohemia Interactive does. As both entities are supporting the DayZ transition to a standalone game, I am expecting more from BI to fix hacking. BI is supporting the transition to a standalone game due to the success of the mod. If the more than 1M players registered for the mod purchased the standalone at even 10 dollars, that is more than $10,000,000 at stake. Hacks fall into two categories: modifications that the user can make to their own computer and files, such as changing textures to make players highly visible and aimbotting; and modifications that require server interaction, such as the ability to spawn vehicles and aircraft and the way that damage is dealt to players on the server (insta-kill). If you want to sign this petition, please reply "signed". By signing the petition, you are stating that: (1) I understand that hacking is an issue with all online multiplayer games and that nobody has ever been able to achieve 100% success in stopping hacking. (2) I understand that player-side hacks such as wallhacking and aimbotting will likely never be fixed. (3) While accepting that hacking will never be totally resolved, I still expect to play without significant disruption. (4) I will not purchase the DayZ standalone game until such time that all server-side hacks have been resolved. BI and Rocket need to recognize that every "signed" reply here is another loss to the expected revenue for the development of this game, and that loss in revenue is the motivating factor for them to either fix this themselves or pressure BattleEye to come up with a fix. Thanks, [HIT] Phoenix
  25. Hey guys, just posting this here to tell you that im looking for a clan ,group, or even a 2-3 man team to roll with. My irl friends stopped playin and i dont like working without a sqaud. im very good at dayz and know almost everything about it. i work well in sqauds and i have all the voice comm programs available. I am 18 years old, very mature when it matters, and i have a wide range of playtimes. my timezone is UTC/GMT-6 and usually i play anywhere from 11am-11pm in that range but not nonstop. My roles consist of: Sniper, Rilfe Marksman, Infiltrator, and Heavy Fire Suppresor, and im a great navigator. I have quite a bit of gear stashed away at many locations i will not reveal, so its easy for me to gear up fast, but i can work with any peice(s) of gear to get the job done. I am also very mobile, as i have soem vehicles as well, where i can drive to a location and load into a new server if need be for raids and meet ups. I have more of a bandit outlook on the game, but i dont shoot unarmed players. I am very cautious though. If anyone is interested in these particular set of skills, let me know thru here, steam or skype. and leave your steam name too if your interested Steam name: Ulysses(picture of the character ulysses from fallout:NV) Skype name:Vendetta_404
