Remove zombie re-spawn, around player radius
omgwtfbbq (DayZ) replied to Svaki's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Umm.....No. (good idea, OP, I agree) as for THIS guy, hell no. Do you realize how hard it is to render 100 people? and you want one million + buildings + grass + trees + other players + vehicles + crashed vehicles? FUCK. THAT. -

1st person only, waypoints, what more?
kryvian replied to echosyp's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
in real life you have a wider range of view, that monitor+fps can't cover, that +hermits like me love to play it safe in 3rd person view, always know what's around me. but since you mentioned free vehicles, I'd rly like to have a go for real at a chopper, it taken? :V -
I can also confirm that this is going on. Gathered up some new equipment yesterday, put it in a vehicle, moved vehicle, saved it...all new equipment was gone after the next server restart (all of the previous stuff was still there, though) and the vehicle was in the previous location. However, I did find a bicycle post-patch, and it appears to save and stay where I want it. Could there be be an issue with vehicles that were acquired/saved pre-patch?

1.7.2.5 Tents and Vehicle Inventories not saving.
[email protected] replied to NocturnalS1n's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Can also confirm - UK123 just updated today to 1.7.2.5 and our tent is now empty and re-empties itself after every restart. Also all our vehicles have disappeared. I suspect back to where we found them. Our other regular server, UK190 is also in a groundhog day state where every time we login everything is back where it was when the issue started happening. Really surprised there's no word from the devs on this issue - it's a total gamebreaker, way worse than the artifacts - you can work around them, but lack of reliable storage/vehicles is really putting us off playing. Also the item duping is getting a bit silly - if rocket launchers weren't also broken we could be having a field day with our infinitely replenishing stocks of rockets. I suspect a full wipe of vehicles and tents may be on the cards to clean up after this mess -
Coords For Camps On Server that Abuses [11th] Clan = US 1846
kyriel replied to Hellacious's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What is wrong with you? You keep posting this, but it's not just our server. It's battleye you know. You should consider yourself lucky that you are were(?) on a server where the clan doesn't horde all the vehicles. Like I've said before: I lost the white offroad and my tractor to battleye #something, was kicked off the server, loaded back in and it was gone. I don't even reset the server, I wait for the scheduled resets. And as a clan we lost the Huey. We were all kicked for Battleye #55 while in the air, and now It's gone. Did we do that to ourselves? Hmm? -
Reduce Blood Recovery of Cooked Meat
xDIx Revenge replied to Obsolescence's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There is. Items Zombies Players Vehicles All of these are reasons to not sit in the forest playing "lets shoot all the pigs and camp near a water source". Its a good idea to have a "home base" like that that you can return to, but if you choose to stay out there, then thats your choice. There are plenty of reasons to go into civilisation. Also i love that you tried to make getting "matches/hunting knife/hatchet/water bottle" is somehow easier from a city then just piling a bag full of blood bags with full health capabilities from each. Self blood bagging = no. It was designed to persuade players to work together, and more items like that will come. Plus its quite a hard feat in real life to give yourself a blood transfusion. -
1st person only, waypoints, what more?
echosyp replied to echosyp's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I guess you are right and that makes sense. If people can't play E-Z Mode then they won't play. As being an online gamer for 18 years now, they have changed A LOT in the recent years. I guess the more of a challenge the less a lot of people like it. 3rd person is kind of cheap IMO, because u can easily check around corners and over walls. We should have to use the environment around us, like maybe have to look at the window of the super market to see if we see someone's reflection around the corner, or if shadows was mandatory have to use them. Its just everyone has their own likes and dislikes and it seems more people love 3rd person than the people who would rather have it off. Guess I will turn 3rd person back on, leave crosshairs on, leave waypoints on and hope I get some players. I've even offered people vehicles or gear because my group I play with have been playing for months now and have collected more than enough gear. But then you get the people who love to browse the forums and are quick to yell duper or vehicle hoarder when they have no idea. Thank you all for the input. -
Stupid bikes always disappear
Texas Red replied to austendude's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't get this problem. Are you playing on high-pop servers where vehicles cause ground-wars? Or low-pop, where people know how to get a vehicle easily? Only way I have encountered vehicles going away is server resetting, when you don't save the vehicle. Or when people take it and hide it elsewhere. -
So Who Do You Think The Hackers Really Are?
Cooperal replied to Devmagic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
People who hack and glitch for equipment and vehicles = Gamers of the current generations mindset. They'd rather have an easy ride than feel anything the game was supposed to emphasize. A shame, but far from the worst. They're ruining the experience for themselves more than others. Nothing to worry about when put next to: People who hack to directly target legitimate players (teleports, genocide etc) = Halfwits. People who have been raised in a way that their mental age is unable to break the 14 year mark. People who have willingly surrendered their right to any fair treatment. -
So my server is about 2 weeks old and we have went from 3rd person to 1st person only server, veteran, with waypoints enabled. Players have completely stopped coming. Is 3rd person that big of a deal on a FPS game? I have admins on just about 24/7 to help keep watch over the server, we don't reset when we lose a vehicle or get our tents raided. Most vehicles are still laying around the place waiting to be taken. So I ask you all, what makes you want to come to a server and stay on it? I need to find a way to keep some players or just quit paying for the server all together.

I forget where exactly but somewhere along the far west side of the map near debug there is a cluster of bushes/small trees that if you fly overhead in a helicopter spell out a name, and I believe it's the name of the map creator/developer but I'm not sure. My group just happened across it one day flying over looking for camps and hidden vehicles.

I've got it! This is how item storage should work! I'm a genius!
ZedsDeadBaby replied to Taphonomy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So my multiplayer survival game with team-based tactical combat and team-based structure building and team-based cooperative mechanics will have completely individual storage? Why? There's absolutely no justification for that. It's neither authentic nor conducive to the survival mentality. It's supposed to be "safety in numbers" not "safety in numbers but make sure you hide your own shit in your own tent in case someone you know gets shot while you're at work tomorrow." Again, you're speaking from an entirely solo, individual, single-player perspective. If I pull up to a firefight in a pick-up with 3 friends and jump out and get shot in the head, you want my pick-up truck to disappear while my friends stand there stranded? And my enemies have no opportunity to steal it? I assume that's not what you're suggesting? But it is... Tell me how a mechanic functions that guarantees enemies can steal my possessions or friends who are with me have an opportunity to reclaim vehicles that I was driving, yet somehow also prevents me from doing the same after re-spawning? I completely disagree with you. Other than the "newb griefing" which I'll ignore since I don't understand what it has to do with any of that other stuff, those things are in fact relatively critical to the DayZ experience. They are in their infantile states, and will certainly be fleshed out and expanded upon in stand-alone when rocket adds things like underground structures and permanent squad storage, both of which he has discussed at length. You are critiquing them in their unfinished, experimental stages. Storing gear to support a larger squad and recruit new members while vying for limited resources and precious vehicles is most definitely "core gameplay" in DayZ. I know it's fun to make sweeping generalizations and rely on the presence of duplication bugs which will certainly cease to exist in the very near future to make your point, but don't. Nobody has "infinite guns and ghillie suits" unless they are explicitly and deliberately exploiting the bugs in the game. I've worked for months in a team of 5-6 and we have only had 3-4 ghillie suits between us the entire time - same with the rarest guns. You're conflating the issue of item duplication with the desire to work in a team to ensure your long term viability and the strength of your squad and its ability to recover from losses. Do not. This is absolutely bullshit and is based entirely upon a mentality which assumes that gear is the only thing of worth in the game. When my 42-day-old character died I came as close to weeping over a game as I have since I was a child. And my friend who accidentally ran me over in our Land Rover? Got physically sick. And neither reaction had fuck all to do with the "stuff" I was carrying at the time. We cared about the player. The story. The history. That's what we lost and it broke both our hearts (his a bit more than mine since he was the drunk jackass who backed over me but I digress). Gear is not why I strive to survive, so having some waiting for me after I respawn doesn't really take the edge off death in the way you imply. No, and no. I disagree with this entire paragraph in almost every way so I'll just say that and not spend 15 minutes picking it apart. Roguelikes are fun, but they're also generally single player games, with short term (relative to an MMO) play-through's and become repetitive. DayZ must adapt rogue experience to a multiplayer, team-based game with long term sustainability and replay-ability which means long-term goals that are achievable even if you drink from the wrong fountain or read the wrong tome. Nobody is going to play DayZ for 12 months let alone years if every death is a complete "reset" on their entire experience. That's just not an MMO anymore. Roguelike, right? Like as in similar, not identical? DayZ has the hints of this progression right now. Very roguelike at the start - brutal, lose everything, start fresh, where-the-fuck and how-the-fuck kind of feel; but, with effort you can work against that and find your way into a group and work together and cooperate and then things change and the game morphs and you're playing at a different level and it's an entirely different experience and to me that implies a depth and breadth of design that needs to be explored, expanded upon, refined and polished not quashed before it has had a chance to flourish. Yes we need to fix duplication exploits. That goes without saying. But that's not a reason to abandon entirely the depth and appeal of long-term storage and player built structures and compounds.s I think rocket is on my side in this one ultimately, so I'm going to wait and see what he does and we can revisit the conversation in stand-alone. ;) -
No vehicles spawning on new server.
urbanfox replied to DarkEnergy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Answering a customer's question is never problem or burden. The issue that new servers are facing is that no vehicles spawn at the moment, ground or air. Concerning servers that have vehicles already, if a vehicle is destroyed or malicious intent is detected by the central database (such as leaving a vehicle off the map so no one finds it), then after 7 days the vehicle should automatically re-spawn at it's original spawn location. Hope that answers your questio. -
New Major BattlEye Anti-Cheat Features
Lady Kyrah replied to cm. (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This is nice, once carefully tuned it should allow to effectively tripwire the server for any behavior that is not expected from a DayZ client. This is not foolproof but it should allow servers to kick/ban automatically anyone who spawn ammo crates, vehicles, bombs, or force teleports. Well basically any behavior that is reserved to the server. Nice finding! Now someone need to write the proper configuration for this option and keep it maintained as the mod is updated. -
No vehicles spawning on new server.
torokfremen replied to DarkEnergy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
i might be off-topic but it's still vehicle related, i don't want to take your time by asking if you would please search the forums with tags like helicopter doesn't spawn etc. etc. but i can tell you that i've done it and i share the grief of many players & server admins who are on the hunt for choppers ever since they were reintroduced with the 1.7.2.4 (yes they were added but once destroyed/crashed/stuck) they are left 4 dead lol, simply, they doesn't spawn even after 7 days of servers activity, or even after more. so would you kindly answer if the chopper respawn timer is the same as all the other vehicles & if any server restart will reset the 7 days timer? i think i'm speaking for everyone here. thanks and sorry for the long post a concerned citizen of Chernogorsk -
No vehicles spawning on new server.
hybrid86 replied to DarkEnergy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
tents not saving is a new bug once again but bugs are what happens when you have an arma patch and dayz patch with in a few days it happens, but as far as vehicles go my first server took over a week to get them to spawn and on top of that not every spawn does spawn one there are 4 off road truck spawns that i know of and on the day that vehicles did show up only 1 even spawned one so dont go around thinking you should have like 20 of them on your server you will be lucky if you have 1-2 of each. also to add my first server is over a month old so its not a new thing for them to take there time to spawn. -

No vehicles spawning on new server.
general316 replied to DarkEnergy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This is extremely frustrating to just say that this is only a problem with servers that are less than a week old. I have had my server since 7/26/12 and there are others who have had servers longer and still dont have vehicles. Vehicles did show up on my server for 2 or 3 days and then disappeared. I can understand if yall are having problems but to say its only with new servers make people like me who have been playing on our own servers for more than three weeks hear that its only a problem with servers that are few days running is really discouraging because Ive been waiting patiently for a solution by reading forums everyday and trying things with my server hoping to get it fix only to hear that we (admins that have servers more than a week) dont have a problem. I really thought it was my server provider (defcon) was at fault and was gonna switch but now I fear getting a new server and waiting all over again to have the same problems will just make me quit this game altogether. I hate to sound so negative, if yall would have said this problem is shared by various admins then I woudn't have posted anything I would have just waited but to hear that early servers are the only ones who have problems made me write this -
Storage and Loot Inflation: Not a Problem, a Sleeping Crisis in Game Design
Patient Zer0 replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Before the ridiculous stores of spare loot can be addressed, the means by which they were acquired need to be addressed first. The various duping methods, script creation and server hopping make it far, far easier to get the so-called "rare" items in the first place. If those items were appropriately rare, there wouldn't be enough of them to allow the luxury of storage. Anyone who found them would put them into use immediately. My sense of the intended way of things is that someone might have a pair of NVGs after a few days, or a sniper rifle, or a ghille suit. Not all three. While a complete hive wipe needs to happen in a bad way, clearing all characters and removing all tents and vehicles from all servers, without addressing the other issues first we'd just be in the same situation in a couple of months again. Hoarding is the best way to take all of the drama and tension out of the game, but people will continue to do it as long as the activity is more gratifying than some other activity in the game. At the moment, there's really nothing else to do except wander the countryside looking for loot and vehicles. It's natural that people will want to hold on to the things they find - even if they never actually use them. The number of vehicles hidden away in some dark corner of the forest which are never actually driven is staggering. People find them and, recognizing the scarcity, stash them away for fear of losing them. This negates the whole purpose of vehicles, and at the same time denies them to the people who actually would put them to use, break them, blow them up and put them back into circulation at the next server reboot. Implementing a punishment for blatant server hopping (such as spawning the hopper back on the coast after x+3 server joins within 15 minutes) is a solid way to make server hopping both risky and not worth the time it takes to hoof it all the way back to the NWAF - this alone dramatically cuts down how much "rare" loot a person can turn up in a night and encourages them to maybe spend their time doing something else. Introducing a way by which gear is actually removed from the server is also crucial. Whether it's some form of 'durability' which eventually makes items useless through use, or a simpler mechanic that merely deletes items randomly from a player's corpse on death, every faucet needs a corresponding drain or the sink overflows. We're drowning in loot. -
Story of a 30 year old kid and his new Dayz server!
TrainwreckUS2114 replied to TrainwreckUS2114's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well its past Day 7 and still no vehicles so you are right both of my tickets were pointless. I did not know the issue was so widespread before posting to the devs. The part that annoys me so much is where a hacker can come in at any time and have a vehicle.. but the Devs can't make it work??? I am being patient.. I have pretty much given up at this point to be honest.. if it comes it comes. I am just happy I don't have to waste time looking for cars cause I know they are not there. Again I am happy that Dayz was created. I respect the Devs and think highly of them. Aside from (Mason) I did not find my 2 tickets to be inpatient. Thanks for your input. I really like the child part. That was clever ;) -
Vehicles would go largely unharmed in a zombie apocalypse situation. I'm all for having more vehicles. OP is 12, though.

Story of a 30 year old kid and his new Dayz server!
Bravo-Two-Zero replied to TrainwreckUS2114's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
As a 30 year old child adult you should know how to be patient. Vehicles were said to arrive at day 7 in the first place and you started to whine earlier about it while the customer support was actually very clear about the subject. Now it appears that there also is a problem with syncing the new servers and vehicles to the hive, but you should prepare or at least expect problems with an ALPHA STATUS MODIFICATION. You're server is about as unique as sand on a beach: be glad that the support team spent so much time in your two pointless tickets in the first place and just await until vehicles get added to your server, nothing will help accelerating this. -
Vehicles disappeared (US2)
0xdecafbad replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Same thing is happening to my server. People keep stealing the vehicles from my camp, and after the server restarts they are all magically teleported back to the camp. It happens every time. Also, I had all the tires on the V3S and a little while ago after a server restart it magically needed two tires. Now even if I put the two tires on they will disappear after a server restart. Even if I tell the vehicles to save multiple times. -
I've got it! This is how item storage should work! I'm a genius!
hatfieldcw replied to Taphonomy's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Other people who use your tents can pitch their own tents and keep their stuff in them. There is no end-game in DayZ, unless you count dying and starting over. Permanent stockpiles of gear that persist for weeks or months after the owner is dead and duplicate their contents accidentally are not core gameplay. Dying, respawning and retaining 95% of your assets through the process is not core gameplay. When you die, it ceases to be your tent, and it ceases to be your stuff, and you cease to be you. You respawn as a new survivor, and it's unfortunate that you wash up on the beach with special knowledge of where a recently dead guy parked his car. What passes for an end-game in DayZ--The loot stockpiling, the barracks farming, the warring over helicopters and the newb griefing--all arise from the flawed mechanics of the current state of the mod. They are not sacred and need not be defended. I know it's fun to have infinite guns and food and ghillie suits and night vision goggles waiting for you when you spawn, and it's fun to be able to die and be back to 100% combat effectiveness in under an hour, but it's not the way the game is supposed to feel. You should care about staying alive, but people don't, because there's nothing to lose. You should lose your stuff when you die, even the stuff that you hid in the trunk of a car a mile north of Gvozdno. Persistent storage and the play styles that it enables are errors in the game, problems with the system. It's why people only go to high-value loot spawns to either deathmatch or to murder the newbs who don't know how to "win" at DayZ. It's why vehicles are just mobile camps. Fixing the item storage will go a long way to making DayZ into the kickass zombie survival roguelike that so many people want it to be. The problem is that the current state of the project has chased away the target audience for the finished project, and filled the community to bursting with FPS enthusiasts who like it best just the way it is. When the standalone game is in beta and DayZ players start offering feedback, there will be enormous pressure to build a game that continues to cater to the current mindset and style of play. The game is too easy for you, and it's easy because of persistent storage. Harden up, and leave your shantytown behind.
