These tips are for solo players looking for a challenge. The weapon and equipment choices are not intended for group use. The most fun you will get from this game when you think you've done it all, is not sniping newly spawned players in Cherno or Elektro for the lulz. Grouping with friends will also become repetitive over time. Going lone wolf and attacking groups of between 3 and 7 players will take you from a fluttery heart to full on cardiac arrest. It's the endgame that everyone thinks is missing. After playing Ever Quest, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online etc, in groups, I became bored and wanted more from the games I loved. I started looking at game mechanics, boss skills, spell affects, their counter affects and their patterns. I wanted to kill that boss on my own that 6 of us had trouble with the day before. I have since succeeded in about 90% of my goals, the other 10% were impossible because the game mechanics didn't allow it. DayZ mechanics allow you to do anything you want because there are no set limits, rules or number crunching anomalies to battle against. You get a weapon and the other/s get a weapon. Simples. These are my findings and tactics that have worked for me through trial and error. This is not the be all and end all of solo/lone wolf guides, tips or tricks. It's just me, take it or leave it. If you think killing more fresh spawns than the next guy will boost your ego in your own eyes, continue doing it, but please stop reading from this point. Start: When you spawn and begin running around alone without a hatchet or a box of matches, the blood will start pumping through your veins more when you have the lone wolf/solo player mentality and ultimate goals in mind. This will give you an advantage over players who would rather pvp and ignore the permadeath mechanic. Get your bearings and head north. Primary Weapons: If you find a Lee Enfield or double barrel shotgun on your way north, ignore them. Take a hatchet instead. The M16A2 M203 spawns in military areas and deer stands. It has terrible iron sights, but it's grenade launcher capability is required when soloing many high level targets. The M4A1 Holo is extremely rare but does spawn in more locations. It is one of the best weapons you can own for solo raiding and group killing. Both weapons above are useless without ammo and grenades. Pick up all Stanag mags and M203 explosive and smoke grenades. Avoid heavy machine guns if you can. They are loud,have a huge muzzle flashand the ammo is very rare. If you find a Mk 48 Mod 0 with more than 1 mag, it could act as a valid replacement for the M14 AIM below. This weapon can be heard on the moon. Side arms: The G17 pistol should be your ultimate goal. Its low noise, neat iron sight and mag choice puts this above the rest. Grenades: Use smoke grenades to confuse the enemy, don't use them as cover. Use explosive M203 grenades against vehicles or players in a bunch. Hand grenades are very useful against multiple targets in a close group. Frag grenades are a high priority. Secondary Weapons: Sniping is mostly a bandit thing. We can ignore it. Also, sniping a group from a distance is a bad idea for obvious reasons. The M14 AIM is the only secondary weapon you will ever need for hitting targets accurately at around the 500m mark. When soloing a group it's best to keep your targets within 300m. Gear: Going lone wolf is not just about the weapons. A solo player needs to forget about soda cans and other tinned food. Hunt animals and know your watering holes. A map and compass are high on your list of priorities. Use the map. Tactics: Never attack a group on first sight. Follow for as long as it takes. A group moving for a long time without being engaged by an enemy will become complacent and make mistakes. I once followed a group of 6 for almost 2 hours. When they had met no resistance during their journey, they grouped up and 1 M203 killed 4 of them. The other 2 were left discombobulated and crawling around. I'm sure you can guess what happened to them next. Always attack from behind. Your muzzle flashes can't be seen and your targets will not expect to be attacked from land they have just walked over. Silenced weapons are the last thing a group hunter/killer needs. Ignore them. Naughty tricks: Set up easy to find tents between the north west airfield and Stary Sobor. Players are attracted to them like zombies to brains. Keep a safe distance (300m-400m) and use the M14 AIM to claim your barracks raid prizes without having to go anywhere near the place. Set up your own tent in a very hard to find spot. When you have your basic hunting and drinking situation sorted, your weapons and gear in your bag, the next thing you should concentrate on finding is the L85A2 AWS. Get one here: http://southcoastbea...Heli-Map-v7.jpg This is a luxury item and is not really needed. It does however give you a silly advantage when scanning your surroundings for targets. Almost everything in the mod is broken thanks to patch 1.7.2.5. If you are running this patch most of the above can be ignored. Happy being better than a bandit.

Helicopter respawning on Skalisty after server restart

Count yourself lucky, our chopper rolled into the sea two hours after it spawned into the game for the very first time after it was re-enabled and has never respawned since. We also have a few other vehicles at the bottom of lakes that do not respawn either, they just sit there, taunting us :D -

There never was an issue of it being legal or not. If it were illegal, there's no law in DayZ anyway, and people do what they need to survive. It's just that they use them indiscriminately in the game, against people who would not be a threat in any way, just going from point A to B, while the sniper is sitting in point Z on the completely opposite side. The reason for this is because they're powerhouses when it comes to accuracy and power ratio, the ammo is far to abundant, and the weapons are far to easily procured and handled. We do need weapons that are designed to take out vehicles in the game, since they are present.. but in that case it's a role that should be taken by a player that gives up shooting on-foot players where it is not neccessary. -
Vehicles dissapearing after Hive issues?

Every vehicle on our server was reset to the spawn locations and in spawn conditions. Add to this the fact that vehicles won't save their repaired status anymore and it bassically means every vehicle apart from bikes are worthless. DayZ team - PLEASE can we have some kind of update on this issue!? It's really hurting the community of my server as no one can set up camps and repairing up vehicles is totally pointless. -
All tents and vehicles have been completely wiped...after the hive crashed.

I aint logged in today so i havn't seen the damage, are like all the vehicles just gone completley off the servers or do you thing they have just spawned back at their default locations?? if they have gone completley then DAMMIT im walking AGAIN and if they have spawned back to their default locations then DAMMIT im walking AGAIN! I was about to say never mind ill just go for a wander and hunt out some tents... but you say they have gone too?? DAMMMMMIIIITTTTT!!! -
All tents and vehicles have been completely wiped...after the hive crashed.

i play on a private hive 100% of the time. the reason behind this: people using too much hacks on regular servers. the private hive i play on is the exact same thing as a regular hive, vehicles weapons and all. the only reason we use a private hive is because if we had a regular server we'd have to jump through hoops to ban a cheater that we caught. now, if we catch you, you just get banned. if you get reported we look into the logs and go from there. no bogus regulations telling us how to run our server. noone in our community scripts anything, as far as we know (im not the admin but im close friends with him). i dont see why its so frowned upon, its more fun to me than the actual servers, there are bandits, there are friendly's, and we have a good little community. no hacks, no bogus clan running everything, just DayZ the way i believe it was meant to be played. also private hive's prevent: alt+f4 (at least the usefulness of it, you cant connect to a different server and run away), "ghosting" behind someone in a firefight moving gear around servers to "free-farm" we play private but were more legit than most regular-server users. -
So I hate when someone steals my car, So what if you could lock you vehicle with a 4 number code, when you turn on the engine the code will be asked you can try and guess the code but good luck with that :D Other player and you can still access the vehicle's gear but wont be able to drive. The hacker tool will be as rare as a GPS/NVG can be found only in Barracks/Crashed Helicopter, And takes the last tool belt slot, When you enter a vehicle scroll Up/Down and select "Hack Vehicle's Code" Then the vehicle will be unlocked, Scroll again and select "Enter New Code" a nice GUI of number keypad will displayed on the Hacker Tool, Create your code Press "Enter" and here you go! Vehicles who spawn and haven't yet used will be unlocked and for the first time you could Lock it with or without the Hacker Tool. It wont work with: Bike, PDX, Motorcycle and ATV only Big boats, closed vehicles (Cars) and Helicopter What do you think? :D

I'm getting the same thing mate, on 1.7.2.5 servers aswell, wish Rocket would fix the tents/vehicles database, game is pretty much unplayable at the moment, me and my squad will spend an entire day repairing a chopper/gathering loot and setting up a camp, only for it to be removed after a restart, its horseshit. What server are you on by the way? -

no im not .. i actually enjoy playing on private hive server ... side chat on ... its fun ... whenever i feel like i want to run around at the coast again because im bored rolling on the floor in the camp , waiting for people to play with ... but i constantly find vehicles all over the place or 3 or 4 douchebags obviously running the server flying around in a chopper ... sometimes there are multiple choppers on the server and ive read here in the forums that some people even sell vehicles for a donation ... play on a private hive server but i simply dont like videos of people taking down a chopper out of a humvee since this has nothing to do with what people normally do in DayZ ... also this: -
Should have been up, was now when I checked it out, but it kept kicking players for battleye not responding and when I got in no tents or vehicles was spawned, restarted it and it looks ok now. /Karg

Making a Squad to begin the work on a dream of survival

Our squad is now usually five members with an extra pair of two every so often. We have been consistently raiding Stary Sobor and up and down the Northern and Southern middle of the map for various vehicle parts and small vehicles (UAZ, GAZ, Pickup). We seem to consistent with Marksmen (accurate AR) and snipers (AS50, M107) and are really only lacking at this point probably Heavy Weapons as well as Spec Ops (silenced) and Explosives Tech. It is important that you know of using DayZDB is one of our best strategies for survival and knowledge of the map. -

I am in the process of banding together a small but well armed squadron with the intention of gaining multiple vehicles (between 3-5) and then loading said vehicles up with scavenged defense barriers and traps and putting together a well made base on a healthy server (have been hopping frequently due to hackers) and could always use a couple good reliable people. We have flexible roles just based on what you prefer to use and where you prefer to be in terms of combat. I am always looking for squad members, and we have quite a few (between 5-7) daily squad mates constantly scavenging for vehicles, fixing, and mobilizing to create a base on a healthy server. We had vehicles disappear and some became other vehicles. Myself and a mate spent the day fixing up a UAZ. (6 glass windows...really?) only to drive it to our hiding spot before the server reset. After the reset the UAZ turned into the Offroad White Truck. Which I had hidden elsewhere. When the UAZ transformed into the Offroad Truck, I lost a shit ton of gear because the gear was reset to what it was when I had found it. NOT what was in there when I parked and saved it. Frustrating. -
Streamer? NONONO! MY steam is DimonatorZ. I dont stream lol. Im geared and need a clan to get vehicles with :)

They should really fix tents/vehicles not saving correctly before anything else.

I played on 4 or 5 different .5 servers, repaired numerous vehicles, and stuffed tents full of gear, but after each restart, vehicles reverted back to their positions they were in in .4, and vehicle inventories reverted back to what they were in .4. Artifacts are manageable; just go back and forth from windowed mode to fullscreen to fix it, but having all in-game progress deleted after each restart isn't.

As tempting as it is to have a streamer in the clan, it's a huge risk, for us and for our vehicles/camp

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update

Any news on the tents/vehicles issues with this patch? Really surprised to see it went official, we rolled back less than 6 hours of trying it. We won't apply it again until the vehicle saving is fixed. We don't particularly want to be playing a game where all progress is rolled back every server reset. If I have missed a thread addressing this, then apologies, but is this been looked into? I have not seen a response from the dev team in any of the relevant threads. Rocket can you give us some info on this please? -

About the ACE mod; yes, it's by far the best mod ever made for ArmA2 and should be used by everyone. However, due the chances it makes it also makes the game a lot harder. For example I play ArmA2 with some friends now at our own (home)server and I suggested to use ACE to make it better. Within 2 hours everyone begged me to return to vanilla because it was too hard :D - it adds even more keybinds to remember - you have to watch which gear you carry, otherwise it's too heavy - AI is improved (better and harder) - aim and fire doesn't work, you have to calculate distance, height difference and wind when you fire a weapon - teamwork is required, otherwise you won't make it at all Here's my order of learning ArmA2 to the fullest: 1) complete the SP training missions (learn the game) 2) complete the SP campaigns (experience the game) 3) play around the Armory to use other weapons and vehicles 4) play around with the Editor to master the vehicles (especially choppers!) 5) play some MP domination (learn teamwork) 5a) play some other MP gamemodes 6) download and mess with some mods (extra weapons, vehicles, etc) 7) download and play some COOP missions with friends (armoholic.com is your best friend) 8) install ACE and go back to point 3... If you noticed you really like ArmA2 (which you'll know when you hit point 6), try to find a clan or community so you'll meet players with more experience. They're happy to help you to go further and even teach you some things you've missed by playing "alone". And don't be afraid to go back to the Editor and train how to fly or drive a vehicle, because everybody will like you when they see you know what you're doing and you'll enjoy it even more when you saved the lifes of your teammates. The default COOP missions (as in SP mission) are terrible. I suggest, when you're ready for it, to download some custom COOP mission or even COOP campaigns which are designed for it. They're a bit harder, but much more fun and usually without the bugs.
