The chronicals of BuffJesus's last DayZ character
Buffjesus replied to Buffjesus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
start searching around the NEAF for crash sites; but having no luck. so i decide to go check if the PBX is there. and of course Knowing that this server doesn't reset and that it is a dead end for aquiring loot i begin my trip down to myshkino so when i hop ill be able to fix up the truck there and begin gearing up on a decent server that atleast resets sometime. Before i leave i decide to check the deer stand behind the barn... only to hear a motorbike driving in the woods. i run and get back into my truck, to see him drive up to the barn. so we begin just driving around the field running over the zombies... and then he runs into my truck damaging his tires to where he can barely drive. my friends tell me to pick him up (my #1 rule in this game is to never trust any person you come across that has anything in his hands). so i say luls okay and let him get in. i drive off down the road to despawn the zombies so we could either fix up the white truck, or he could get back on the motorbike (the glitch where vehicles fully fix themselves if you get off would have repaired the tire). i drop him off at the barn, start fixing up the truck. i go back inside my truck; he walks up to the window starts shooting it... blows up the truck killing both of us. total play time: 7 hours total vehicles found: 9 total crash sites found: 2 total rare items found: 2 (ghillie, mtn dew) i completely forgot to take a screenshot of the you are dead screen too :( i guess ill make 1 more character since this guy was cut short by breaking the one and only rule i have for myself. -
The chronicals of BuffJesus's last DayZ character
gambles replied to Buffjesus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Holy cow, nice luck on finding so many vehicles. I guess it's just luck of the draw with servers. Good to see someone making a log of there legit last play through. I'll also be getting dark souls just dunno how long my patience will stay playing it. GL on your final run in game until standalone. -
Not everyone wants to spend the entire day searching only to find every vehicle is horded by the hosts. If you do for the sake of e-honour then have fun but i cant see that being fun... hive system only encourages this style of play. Furthermore not every hive server has vehicles spawned and there is no way of knowing unless the host tells you.

i am not gonna tell you which ones, but some vehicles spawn them.

The same happened to me with a truck today. I was stuck in the middle of nowhere. It was the server where my clan is, and a clanmate was near, so I asked him to get near and kill me. But before he was able to arrive, he got a call and logged out while driving his bike. Meanwhile, I spent my time trying to move, and I finally was free. But when he logged in, he was stuck too. What I did, was take his bicy and get it near him, so he was able to call the menu and get onto it again. Maybe it could work with another vehicles too. But you'll need someone to help you. You can't even kill yourself...

i was just wandering if anyone knows a way to find recently created servers.like servers that still have much of the vehicles and such still at spawn. I've been searching spawn points for weeks on multiple servers for vehicles and it seems that there always taken and hoarded. Just wandering if there is an easier way to get them, then walking on foot from one side of the map to the other in search of hoarded and hidden vehicles. Man it would be so cool to ride an ATV for a bit. Anyways if anyone knows anything that would help, its much appreciated

US #4001 (1.7.2.5/95948) - Hosted by DD214 Vets
Loopyj replied to Setante's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hey. Very interested in the server. Are tents and vehicles saving on your server or are you having the same problems as everyone else? I am also a vet so it would be great to play with other vets/active duty. -
I just find vehicles in the game funny sometimes. You find one, celebrate by driving it around Elektro or Cherno, and end of losing it by death, or theft the next time you log in. I just find vehicles in the game as temporary transport, because I know for a fact you will be noticed eventually driving something, you will be followed, and your pimp-mobile will be stolen... ...I miss pimpy...

.50 caliber rifles. At some point we need to have a serious talk about this.
xximrtwoixx replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually they aren't the same thing at all, true HP ammo has a hollow cavity to maximize expansion, this results in a measurable increase in MOA, especially at extended ranges. Ballistic tip/Pollymer/Lead Core/Open Tip etc are expanding bullets that either have the cavity filled with soft matterial or are of a lighter density and not fully jacketed. This allows them to expand but also reduces the increase in MOA one experiances when using HP ammo. Also I said A-Max not V-max, and here you go http://www.midwayusa.com/product/813470/hornady-match-ammunition-50-bmg-750-grain-a-max-boat-tail-box-of-10. Civilian ammo is always better than MilSpec ammo in terms of MOA, it is built to a higher tollerance. Milspec .50 ammo could encompass a variaty of cartridges other than HP, and also include "hand loads" as most sniper elements are outfitted with ammo outside of normal mil spec to decrease MOA. Never the less being shot with one in a shtf scenario would mean the end of your life, as would most gun shot wounds, but really anything over .308 would likely end you within minutes. I agree disabling a target is the name of the game, Knockdown power. Thats why big fast expanding bullets are the king of big game hunting cartridges. And yes being gut shot with a small caliber weapon or being stabbed would allow you to fight back as long as you didn't go into shock or become preoccupied with trying to hold your blood/guts in. Being shot with a .50 or even a 308 in the gut would not allow for this IMO, especially if you were shot from range. There is simply to much to overcome (Finding target, your gun, pain, shock, knowledge of your imminent death) and to short of a window before KO/Death. I have used blood bags in combat, and had them used on me. Time for effect is the same as a bandage this is why you keep one in your inventory and use it before bandage when your friend gets shot. Insta Kill has to exist to represent that people aren't recoving from injuries. The current med system allows people to be completely cured of internal/external blood loss and back to 100% health in a matter of seconds. I agree you don't want to have to "heal up" but if your critically injured you should not be able to be instantly cured either, I think bandages should only lessen the amount of blood loss for this reason thus requiring mutliple bandage applications and multiple blood bags to keep someone alive after injury. This would allow for less instant blood damage because it would mean to keep them alive would be harder, while getting them back to "healthy" would remain easy. Agree poster is dumb if he really believed those were people, but it does make me think.... Round made for big game v small game and round made for vehicles v humans... no similarties Could get explosive, incindiary, Armor Piercing, Tracer, Ball, Match Grade M1022, or XM1022. There are alot of options, but I agree civilian .50 bmg would be rather rare, a rifle runs in the 8-14k range and if you used the link above you can see the cost of ammo. Regardless it would still wreck someone 1 shot. Agree on the loot farming, with out actual scarcity via hard caps nothing is ever rare just harder to obtain. Couple this with what people will actually take off of a dead body/tent/car and you have an ever increasing amount of "good" weapons. This can only be fixed by throwing out the fixed rate loot spawn system, I've posted about changing to a dynamic rate that caps when possession rates get to spawn rates. Make the servers query the hive to get loot spawn rates and you have fixed rates everywhere. Rocket could use this to tortue everyone, and it would amplify the have's v have nots even more, but thats fine IMO. The rest of your arguments focus on glitches or design flaws that are going to be fixed in the initial release of stand alone, (AltF4 and Hopping) I think getting rid of weapons based on this would be throwing the baby out with the bath water. Range is an advantage in combat, thus snipers will always have an advantage, add to this the truly open setting and you have the ability to kill people, not pvp that would imply competition. As you noted there is an easy defense, the sniper's major consideration, player movement. It is easy to avoid the majority of lone snipers out for kill counts, simply avoid major traffic areas. I think this is fairly authentic, as major areas of oppertunity would be the most dangerous locations, see watering hole... -
Not after helicopters so much.. Would have been fun to fly around once and maybe find a different vehicle but.. I only like vehicles on a medium + pop to frig around with. ;)

Vehicles.. Lets be honest
SubEclipse replied to kreatura (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
lol... go take em. We hoarded these vehicles over the course of a month or so. All of the good ones have either been looted from our site already, or we've wrecked them. Also, if you can identify the coords to this camp based on the image alone, I'd be pretty impressed. Please do so if you actually have any idea where it is. I will reply honestly if you're right or wrong as we're no longer set up there. -
What features for an official DayZ map ?
Shaimou replied to Bat (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
- A map that is large enough for certain amounts of players. (20-30 players feels about right in Chernarus) - 2 or 3 major cities and many smaller towns. - More islands and complex coastline, you cant simply ''own'' a boat currently because they will be stolen right away. - Bigger lakes and ponds. - Maybe a few rivers and bridges, chokepoints for vehicles? - Points of interest like Green Mountain and such. But with more importance of course. - Better and more places to hide tents and vehicles in. - Maybe more interiors. -
From my experience, everyone is now either a complete noob, running around getting sniped on the beaches, or in a group, almost fully geared always getting vehicles and such. And the thing is, that isn't really what I would like out of this experience. I would like to propose a reset of all characters, so we get that fresh out of the box, everyone is at the same stage, gameplay that it seems Rocket is fronting. Thoughts?

Server Update Today pushed out by Dayz Dev??
kaindebuddy replied to shadow_moses's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I am running vilayer and today in the updates tab i see this DayZ 1.7.2.5 & Arma2OA 96061 Security Patch This will install all the regular patches on the server and patch the server so hackers can-not spawn items within the server such as vehicles, weapons etc... This has been released early so please use at your own risk however it should make sure server much more secure. YOU WILL NEED TO RE-SAVE YOUR SERVER CONFIGURATION FILE AFTER PATCHING YOUR SERVER. DayZ 1.7.2.4 ROLLBACK You must have the latest security patch installed before this one for this patch to work correctly. This is to only fix tent saving etc.... It is interesting to see that the 1.7.2.4 rollback should be applied after the 1.7.2.5 and i think i am going ahead and do that. bye bye 1.7.2.5 -
My feedback before leaving this game on its own.
Deuzerre posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So, this is an alpha, right? So I'll give the feedback that should come from an alpha, before I leave it somewhere around. As a social experiment, DayZ is sort of a success. not quite here yet, but close. This Alpha proved that many people are assholes when there is no limit to what they can do. It showed, in my opinion, that the Sandbox idea mixed with the possibility of PvP is flawed, that there is an actual need for rules, limits, reward and punishment for actions otherwise some people become petty random killers, grievers and whatnot. The successful aspect of the social experiment is that, when a number of people are jerks and can't be contained, when being a jerk makes you stronger simply because you are alive and the other one isn't, "Normal" people become jerks themselves and/or "Isolate themselves into groups". It's a strange concept, but people don't play really alone, or they become frustrated and leave (like me). I've played with a group over skype/mumble, and needless to say it was fun, with that feel of invincibility. The group eventually split though, since it wasn't really a challenge, and we never met other groups to wage war against, only single targets we most of the time left to their own business. The disappearance of global chat is a big part of the reason of this: Sure, there was a lot of baiting, it wasn't in the feel of the game, but then, isn't teamspeak and similar bullshit too? As a PvP game, DayZ sucks. This engine isn't made for that kind of thing. Most of the time, sounds don't work when they come from someone else. Desynchs make you appear where you are not and take bullets when you are perfectly hidden, makes targetting moving people hard to do at best when they just jump backwards every few seconds. Hits not registering, stuff like that... And that's not to speak about the weaponry available, it's a slippery slope. I will just say that semi-automatic sniper rifles feel quite out of place, and might have been here for the rule of cool, but they aren't that cool. They just sound cool. As a PvE game, it has gotten better. It used to be terrible, but recently it's been better, much better. Less pro sprinters Zig-Zag screw laws of physics, more "right". Zeds are an annoyance you must always take care of. The only major downside of PvE is that Zeds don't follow player rules. By that I mean they go through furniture, sometimes jerk around, and when you want to remain hidden from humans you are still visible to zeds, and the opposite is true too. As a looting game... Partly due to scripts, but mostly by design, it's not great. Finding stuff is relatively easy, thanks to predictable loot areas, and the best way to find stuff is... PvP. Find an enfield, find a good camping spot out of one of the military areas, kill your target, full stuff, or a good way there. PvP is the best way for everything actually, but it shouldn't. It should be "A" way, not "The best way". Since being "Low stuff" general means you don't care, to get loot you can just kill a dude. When you have acceptable gear, to finish the set you... Kill a dude. Then, you have your ideal set and all you have to do is to go for a lake to refill, and hunt an animal to get some meat. As a survival game, it does it quite well, but it reaches its limits really fast. You barely ever get ill. If you die from lack food, it's because of absurdly bad luck or simple idiocity. If you die from zeds, it's either because you did something stupid (got stuck in a building and fought by the rules without disconnecting) or by bad luck (9K limit, meed your broken leg maker), but they are here to keep you on your toes anyway, not to kill you. If you die to players... Sometimes it's a random snipers you can't do anything about (otherwise, check every bush in the game, and pray someone doesn't move in one of the ones you checked) or ambushes (I'm fine with that) or bad encounters, but anyway you are on your toes... but too much, since encountering a friendly is less frequent than finding a prostitute without a STD. I can say I encountered ONE player I didn't know that didn't shoot me on sight since my Makarov spawn days. Because there is no reason to try apart if you are an idiot like I am, hoping that humanity isn't made of e-boner kids. Survival should mean actually trying tu survive, not killing people for what they have in a game of russian roulette or for shit and giggles, or at least not as the only valid way of playing outside of a teamspeak group. As an Alpha, it was, sorry to say it Rocket, but terrible. Since I came in, the only major changes have been the removal of weapons at spawn, and the LoS breaking for Zeds. The addition of axes is fun, but limited. Most of the rest has been some fine tuning... But there has been no change/evolution/improvement in terms of features. You mistook an alpha for a game. People will whine about bugs (Like the current dead body glitches) but these can be resolved separately/later. Add features, remove them, that's what an alpha is for dammit! We are here to test your ideas, just throw them up on us and we'll be happy! We are your playground, for you to know what to add/keep for the stand alone. We are a bunch of whining prats, but we can live with dying to a hill slope (happened) rocks and trees, we can survive with graphical glitches (they can be fixed on a separate schedule, but, man, they weren't there before, what's the change that made you cause them?). But repeating the same tasks for ever without new things gets boring. And some of the features saw their limits: Vehicles get hoarded (I still found some, but you know server owners just abuse the system most of the time), humanity is currently useless since over 50% of the player base kills on sight while the others die, sickness only happens on really rare occasions, global chat not being there only prevents people from communicating in game (further increasing KoS while preventing groups forming). Lots of other things. There is probably a lot more to add. Let's just say that I'm glad to have participated in this (lucky me, I already had ARMAII before, just bought the DLC for the skins) but I have no hope for this game to go, even slightly, in the way I'd wish it to go. It has given me all I think it can give, and frustration but I knew some of it would come. I've played alone, in groups, survivor, bandit (a bit) and in my last life bandit hunter. But that's it, there is no more. Note that I don't expect anything from WarZ either, I suspect this to be a dung with a bit of sugar coating. I'll still follow DayZ's news, but I won't take part in the alpha anymore. Oh, and to the guys that will say this is a QQ or something: Shut up, grow up. -
Turrets would NOT make a vehicles less vulnerable. On my phone and can't edit.

its not hacking when any idiot can modify a cfg file, its simply cheating. hacking/cracking requires actual knowledge and skills which none of these cheaters have. what someone learns off youtube or by some other fellow idiot can be done aby any 8 year old with a PC these days. its bad enough we have server/game glitches that destroy/kill/lose/etc all of our equipment and vehicles, we dont need to worry about some jackass killing us after surviving for days and actually building wealth legit. I love this game and cheaters wont discourage me, but ive found lately it to be more annoying that an admin will kick me for no reason when theres maybe 4 or 5 people on the server. ive had almost zero ping minding my own business then it kicks me 'You have been kicked by Admin'. Some admins kick the players and reset the servers so they can go to the spawn locations and grab all the gear for their clan members (mostly done with helis im sure). But every game/server needs maintenance to clean up the trash (cheaters/corrupt admins). Looks like we got a good maintenance crew set up...so keep up the good work! Have some beans!

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
myskaal replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
More broken vehicles, less vehicle parts, scarce fuel Less high powered/military weapons, more "around the house" type weapons (though still difficult to find - hello apocalypse) + degradation + scarce ammo. Searchable/lootable items inside buildings: chests, wardrobes, desks, nightstands, safes... you know like at some point in the not too distant past people actually lived in these places. I like the idea of underground building but I would like to see this underground be an actual place - like a subway and sewer system. Underground tunnels and stations, rather than just some empty instance you load into and create a base in. Example: You drop through a manhole and make your way through the tunnels to your base entrance (instance). **ASA WELL AS - the ability to dig into the ground/mountains. With the creating of bases, I'd love to see the inclusion of being able to create amenities such as electricity - to light/heat/arm said bases. Water filtration systems. Cooking appliances/facilities beyond a simple camp fire... I mean this all depends how far into the "rebuild civilization" part of it you want to go. Stamina/Endurance/Agility/Dexterity(aim) directly related to and affected by hydration/fed/temperature/health level. Animals - dangerous wildlife. Fishing - another food source Infected population independent of players. It's too much of a giveaway: zambies here means player here. The diary/note creation Enter-able tents: out in the wilderness, have my tent in my pack, starts raining. I'd like to be able to set my tent up and climb inside to get out of the rain. "Friend" identification. If I'm looking at my team mate "Joe", I'd like to be able to tell that it's "Joe" and not the other random guy that has the exact same skin/equipment who just happened to come around the corner. Maybe some sort of customizable clothing flag - armband, hat decal, bandana... something. EASTER EGGS (What could be at Green Mountain? hmmmm) -
Chernarus National Security Force (CNSF) Recruiting Players!
joeaguirre0 replied to joeaguirre0's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Never said you were hackers. You said we were hacking? So it was you guys? OldMan was one of you? Yeah, Me and Jeremy were driving around in the white pickup asking players if they were friendly. Obviously you guys are bandits so whatever happens to you, you deserve it. And...that's what happened. After that we called out KoS on your clan/members. Your men got killed by the numerous members we had in Elektro. To be honest, i could careless if i die. It's for a good cause anyways. We have too many vehicles to know what to do with them. So driving around in Elektro is fun and we killed a lot of you bandits that way. We should of killed you after you guys didn't respond to our "Are you friendly?" request. Our bad, we waited like 20 seconds while you guys got into position. Oh well, not like dying means anything since we got all the weapons in the game and more. I was driving the truck but i shot you guys with 149 rounds of my SAW but you wouldn't die. I cough it up to lag since my team did get two of you. Me and my passenger died though. Did your expert salvage team manage to salvage your bodies? Cause when i got there they were still there... IMO, L85 sucks. Have as many as you want. -
US 863 shutting server down
SUNKISTTUNA replied to Simonius5000's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Everyone chooses how to play, and I fully embrace the fact that destroying the camp was not the most morally sound thing to do. I turned bandit a long time ago, after being killed dozens of times on the coast by bastard snipers, and I havent looked back since. More specifically in this case, I didnt try to destroy the camp just for shits and giggles, I was trying to kill as many of the campers as I could in one blast, since the end goal was only to gain control of the Huey. By blowing the vehicles, I was hoping to distract anyone I didnt catch in the explosion long enough for me to make a run for the chopper and get the hell out of there. My friend had even resigned himself to the fact that he would probably die, but was willing to do so if his death allowed me to get the Helo. That being said, I figured it wasn't Melted who restarted, since he had gone offline about 45 minutes prior to our little terrorist action. He seemed pretty chill. I might even join the mumble server. -
looks like a decoy, head north for the vehicles and the real camp.

Do vehicles disappear with server restarts?
LostInTheWoods replied to Shard (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
H3retic, doesn't work like that. Some resets it doesn't respawn, sometimes it respawns randomly. From what I understand rare vehicles like the heli and fastboat that are one per server can take a week to respawn. Persoanally I understand the logic of wanting them to be rare, but I think limiting the "endgame" so strictly is causing the griefing. Better to not make a bad name for your game before release. Put the dogs aside and find ways to make the game easier to insttall, run better on machines and occupy people so they don't grief, or give them motivation to spare people who aren't a threat. -
Most dangerous vehicle route ever. DONT EVER DRIVE THERE
[email protected] replied to Friendly1337's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Found an ATV abandoned on that dam. Took a car and pushed it off. Then tried to flip it upright and it flew up in the air and exploded when it hit the ground. After the server restarted it was back fully repaired and upright. I tend to just avoid the dam completely now with vehicles. They don't like it very much. Even the larger ones make crashing noises when crossing it. -

u actually can cross the bridge with other kinds of vehicles. its the atv bugging. same happens on other bridges and piers. but theres a way to flip back. just can take a lot of time. youtube has several unflip videos :) -
