Wanting to trade a helicopter for a bunch of items!
RotorGod replied to Pancake Jackson's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If I get one I'll let you know, although I find the land vehicles more interesting than the offer of your weapons. Most people who actually have the time, effort and skill to repair a helicopter to the point of fly-ability would have the level of weapons and gear that you do now. So maybe offer them up and the ammo and suits? I just don't reckon many will be super keen for weapons as most are happy with what they are running with currently and also because SVD mags are rare as rocking horse shit these days. Well for me anyway. -
A way to help curb the amount of pointless murders by people.

The reverse of this is also true. I think it's a great concept I've not seen discussed before... I would be fine with humanity depleating over time as well, slowed by being around others and flat gains/drops based on helping/hurting others. EX: 2 bandits muck about hill sniping n00bz around cherno like 1337 pr0z, but because they are constantly proximate to one another and occasionally help eachother with blood etc, they loose their humanity at a rate of 1*X. 2 survivors muck about cherno looking for supplies and getting the eff out of there like 1337 pr0z. Because they are constantly proximate to one another and occasionally help eachother with blood and every so often have to kill a hostile bandit, they loose their humanity at .75*X A lone survivor hangs out in the extreme north, staying away from anyone and anything that moves. He hits a few barns and supermarkets to get buy, has a hidden tent in the woods, and is stocking up to repair some vehicles like a 1337 pr0. He occasionally has to kill a hostile he encounters, or bumps into a friendly and then gets the eff out of there to avoid a confrontation. Becuase he is almost never proximate to other players, rarely gives/recieves help, and occasionally kills an enemy on top of that, his humanity is lost at 1.25*X In order to restore humanity (other than killing zombies and blood transfusions), add in a "pills" item. Without these pills, once a player reaches 0 hummanity, they start to shake in the same manner that one experiences when needing pain killers. (yes, I know 0 humanity is an unrealistic number at this time, but humanity scores and things that effect them can be tweaked, as can the hummanity floor... shut up.) Thoughts? -
Is there a way to spot tents easily? Even when well hidden.
stokvis replied to freak367's topic in New Player Discussion
Freak there is indeed an option for that, check at grapic options -> advanced options. And sometimes a server needs multiple restarts because tents/vehicles don't spawn or of because of some other problem. Or perhaps the admin was changing settings and it went wrong, I don't know, but I know it happens. -
Taken earlier today. I keep hearing people say "no vehicles".

The State of the Game and Why a Once "Addict" Has Moved On
Icus posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love Day Z, I really do. I love wandering for hours in the wilderness, hunting for loot in houses, deer stands, military tents, etc. I love the thrill of wondering if a player is stalking the same area as me, fearing a sniper is watching over the military spawn I'm looting, or finding a vehicle in some nonsensical part of the map. I love looting some poor sap's tents of his rare guns, killing pigs for meat, and looting stores and the thrill of finding that uber rare piece of gear. I found my own pair of NVGs, my own M107, my own Coyote Backpack, my own silenced M4, Silenced M9, etc. So with all this to love, why have I stopped playing Day Z? Well, you might say the latest patch, 1.7.2.5, a "hot-fix" intended to fix some graphical issues, was the last straw for me. The way this patch fundamentally broke tents and vehicles has crippled any enjoyment I can find in the game. I say broke as opposed to buggy because they simply don't work. So what if I looted some sap's tent? His stuff will just re-spawn tomorrow. Hell, I can just keep going back there day after day and gear up my friends too. It cheapens the game, and I cannot handle this cheapness. Sure, you're sitting there, saying "well, then don't use the uber loot duping tents, duh!" and you'd be right. But the way tents are broken also makes it incredibly risky to store my gear before going off adventuring. This means I can't store my extra food, ammo, my day/night weapons and more, without fearing a re-set. What if the server crashes while I'm playing at night, or re-sets suddenly? My day/night guns will be gone. I'll have to find that ammo again. It means that if I wander across the map, I have to wander back before I log out or all my things will vanish, and this turns playing into a chore. Then there's the helicopter my friends and I fixed up. Gone in less than five hours. Did the server reset and despawn it/return it to the island I found it on? Or was it stolen? I don't know, and because of that uncertainty (which should not be), I can't be bothered to play. The real reason I've given up isn't any of the above reasons, really. I guess what was truly the last straw is how Rocket and co have basically thrown the community to the wolves in order to promote the standalone at various conventions. I don't blame them of course, I can't wait for the standalone, but I was also looking forward to enjoying Day Z the mod in the meantime. A simple tweet, a forum post, a reddit comment, anything that says, "we know tents and vehicles are broken, news soon" or something along those lines is all I need. I'm sure there are others who fell the same.- 30 replies

Tents are disappearing/not saving correctly/working all at random with this version. It's all very hit and miss. Same goes for vehicles still. Kind of surprised they aren't cracking down on this huge bug or maybe they are and we'll have a fix soonish. -
Bells and whistles
Lumberjack (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I dunno, see I wander around the lands of Chernarus and you know what I see, burnt out military vehicles, dead soldiers, mass graves, road blocks, military heli's crashed in fields, military camps, and a military airfield. Now I think to myself something epic has happened here, a major military operation so I am in no way surprised to find military grade weapons everywhere it seems to fit perfectly with the narrative of what I see any way. -
Last patch it was because there was too much gear. Now it's because you can't store any of your gear or vehicles. Too much storage and death is inconsequential. Too little storage and you don't have much reason not to give in to homicidal nihilism.

Lumberjack (DayZ) replied to Digitalzebra's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
After this post you deserve to have everything you have stolen and to be shot in the back and I hope it happens, dayz is about persistent gaming without the threat of losing it all the game fails. Shutting down your server is just a form of admin abuse in my opinion, we leave ours on 24 hrs a day our camps and vehicles are always being looted, for almost a week one team held the Heli from us hoarding the vehicles, the fun was trying to keep it all and win/find it all over again. -
No idea who did it, but US 10 Chicago just had all it's vehicles spawn in a line in the middle of a field and some people got turned into pigs. I'm pretty sure the server was full up at the time. There's been a lot of weird activity for the past couple days. SUVs driving around and lots of tents full of high-powered weapons. The current time is 8:00 PM EST. The field is near Komarovo. Dunno what else to say.

I recently purchased a server and it seems no matter how i restart it everything disappears (tents/vehicles). I was curious if someone could please explain to me the correct way to stop and restart a server step by step. Thanks

hi, me and my friends need to find a new home server. on our current ones the vehicles and tents aren't saving properly, so we want to move, any suggestions? preferably one with BE script detection -
[The Idea:] Implimenting groups of AI controlled Survivors (Bandits, Military, Civilian) into Day Z to increase gameplay. [Argumentation:] To put it simply; Due to the vastness of Chernarus, a lot of time spent in the game is running around just holding W for 10 minutes or longer. In fact; 70% time is running, 25% is scavenging, and 5% is avoiding zombies and/or engaging human targets. What we need besides a auto-walk button (Future suggestion!) is more unpredictability in gameplay, such as running into variably enemy, neutral or friendly targets besides other players. This would modify gameplay immensely ofcourse, due to the fact other survivors can also be just AI. These can be moving patrols/convoys, or stationary targets like castles. It increases chances of something random and unexpected to happen (Such as AI bandits engaging a group of players, whom could gain support or yet more harrasment from an AI military unit depending on them being bandits themselves) and many more possibilities. As how it is now; Smart players will not usually fire on zombies because it would only attract more and they are easily avoidable, and besides the main cities the chance of running into somebody coincidentally are slim. There are also only zombies found near structures, which makes anywhere else relatively safe. Having the possibility of various random groups potentially running into you would increase the level of constant paranoia Day Z is looking for. The way things are now, it means running around a lot with a full clip and pretty much never losing ammo. This is ofcourse discounting certain clans having wars with eachother. Ergo; quite boring for an fps for an average player. [implimentation:] AI groups with varying numbers (Say 4 to 10) and various default allegiances, exampled below: Allegiances; Bandits: Allegiance with other bandits (including player bandits, unless fired upon), hostile to civilians, non-bandit players, military, Black Ops, infected wildlife and moving/spawned zombies. Engage on contact. May disengage and flee from certain enemies. (Such as Black Ops) Military: Allegiance with other military, civilians, and non-bandit players. Hostile with bandits and bandit players, Black Ops, infected wildlife and moving/spawned zombies. Engage on contact. Civilian: Allegiance with military, civilians and non-bandit players. Hostile with bandits and bandit players, Black Ops, infected wildlife and moving/spawned zombies. Do not engage unless fired upon. May disengage and flee from certain enemies. (Such as Black Ops) Black Ops: Allegiance with Black Ops. Orders to terminate everyone else. Engage on contact. Infected Wildlife: Allegiance with Infected Wildlife (Depending on species?) and moving/spawned zombies. Hostile to all other AI and players. Engage on contact. Moving Zombies: Allegiance with infected Wildlife, moving/spawned zombies. Hostile to all other AI and players. Engage on contact. Weapons; Bandits: Variety of all available weaponry, but only the ones possible from scavenging others. (Rarely if any Black Ops Items) Military: Military equipment. No camo or 'specialised' weaponry. Civilian: Low grade equipment. Varies between Makarov to Lee enfield (Farm weaponry, etc) Black Ops: The 'specialised' weaponry mentioned earlier. May or may not include NV. Infected Wildlife: Claws and teeth. Possibly hooves. Moving Zombies: Same as spawned zombies. Interactions; - Patrol at random through Chernarus, possible with various missions assigned to them (?). May also be stationed statically at certain locations. - Do not spawn zombies. All groups will however engage player-related spawned zombies, besides the zombie-groups. (Which, due to the fact the zombies would keep spawning if a player was close enough, could lead to the demise of said groups.) - Once an AI team has been neutralised, a new group may be spawned at random at a specified interval. Due to the scale of the map, quite an amount of groups could be deployed simultaniously. - May respond to external stimuly such as gunshots, radio chatter, movement, possibly wildlife and lakes? (Food + Water) Groups each respond differently to vehicles. Some will flee, some will ignore, and some will engage. - Military may or may not have access to vehicles. Recommended keeping those low-armored due to low likelyhood of AT armaments. - Have fixed or random salvage-able spawned gear. - Do not have player-specific targets. Can therefor usually be easily avoided when encountered, unless ofcourse already spotted by that group. (Increases player awareness of surroundings at all times to avoid unwanted contact) - Have HP equal to players, may or may not have additional stats and conditions for temp, blood, etc. - Limited ammo, will flee when depleted. May or may not re-ammo themselves from fallen comrades when possible. - Military medics can heal fractures and make blood transfusions when a patient is below + - 4000 blood, may also apply this to other military units, civilians, and non-bandit players when they happen to be near them. (Perhaps only with hero status?) - Possibility, amount and density of roaming groups may or may not be configurable per server. - NOTES - Edits are due to continious updates on idea.

Yea, they should drop everything to focus on fixing a mod that might break Arma2, you know the actual game you purchased to play the free mod, instead of trying to make a polished version for release. Some of the forum moderators are dicks, but it is often in response to some whiny child expecting the world of a testing alpha that needs a separate platform to be fixed (you know what they are hopefully working on right now). You answer the same whiny question thirty times a day and tell me you will not get a little frustrated by the endless amount of people whining about an unfinished product. It is not like they told you the alpha was the finished project, so people should just be happy they can play anything. I actually think this is exhibit A in any case for not allowing public Alpha testing because the people playing the unfinished product seem to think it should work all the time. I read the post you are referencing and it was about a 120 pages of people whining about their tents, whining about vehicles, saying they were over it, or complaining about the lack of patches to fix the problem. Not only does the community get the problems, so do the developers who are working to fix the problems for a stand alone. So stop playing until the stand alone comes out and if you are that worried wait for a few weeks and see if problems are resolved. But for the love of God stop coming on the forums to bitch about the same topic for weeks on end (oh I could not see in the airfield and was too lazy to just log or try one of the many other fixes).

Global Board to post: missions, request help, offer trade and post contracts
Mane (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hello community, as i was just surfing this forum and the reddit dayz-threads, i realised something. At every given moment the community of dayz is searching for ways to get more out of the game in context of endgame-content and team driven efforts. The fun and emotions in dayz come from player interaction. At minimum this means teaming up but it goes on to creating a small camp with vehicles and tents and then there is more. There are great projects out there, people offering rescue, trade outposts, taxi services, mercenary´s for hire, clan wars going on etc. This is all great but what i think is missing is some kind of central information hub. Think about dayzmod.com (or another name) where every server has it´s own page showing: A section where it is possible to: leave messages for others, request help or a teamup, offer missions, offer bountys, post trade requests. maybe a map of the map running on the server where you can mark locations and leave messages attached to it maybe even the number of claimed/free vehicles etc. Also clans could try to lay a claim on a server by leaving a message for other clans on the serverpage. There are more possibilities if you have ideas chime in. Exceptionally great would be a chat Area where you can team up and join together at a specific location. Plus the usual serverinfo that can be found on sites like gametracker.com and a shiny join Button. I think this would really push the game on a completely new level. Right now (i know it´s alpha) if i wanna play i just start on a random server and hope to find some friendlys for a teamup. Now, i know a big part of the community is already organized in different clans over different websites but this leads to fragmentation. For example to find out about the trade outpost i have to find the correct forum and check the right thread for the proper time, trade requests are on reddit and here etc. Imagine you go onto dayzmod.com click on play and first you get the main page with an overview of whats happening on dayz as a whole, with a worldmap showing how many instances are up per country. A ticker with information in realtime with info: Where players are searching for a teamup, which tradestations are up and running, if a medical rescue service is up, if someone just discovered and shared a camp location (which could be trap). You click on one of these and jump direct into the game or you choose to go onto a specific serverpage and check a specific server for missions or messages or if someone published your campsite. Maybe another clan or the "bandit alliance" had the audacity to lay a claim on your homeserver etc. Many ideas and a rough concept. Maybe some people get the idea. I attached a crude mockup of how it could look like (very very crude done, in paint and i am no web designer). What are your opinions on something like this? How would you design the global welcome page or the specific serverpages? The game is in alpha let´s get some ideas for interfaces together i know there are really talented people out there, show us what can be done. Thanks for reading, even more thanks if i get some responses. And beans will be given out to designs and well written good ideas. (English is not my native tongue, if i butchered the language i am sorry) tl;dr Dayz needs an infopage for every server to check for missions, trades, wars, help requests etc. -
Dayz 1.7.3 Suggestion - Vehicle Reset

Vehicle and tent questions???
Silverfade357 replied to Silverfade357's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thanks for the answers, I guess vehicles are really not worth it then because you spend all this time looking for parts and then next time you sign in the vehicles are just gone. Hopefully this will be better when the actual game comes out. -
Alpha testing is over for mod
Angel Knight replied to RECphantom's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would rather the vehicles save properly. I hate walking for 10m (minutes, not meters) to meet my friends, especially after I've wasted time locating and repairing a car. I will of course be happy to see the hackers gone, but right now I have more of a problem with bugs and features not working than I do with hackers. I've only been killed by hackers twice, although everyone else and their mother says they are scriptkilled/teleported/thunderdomed daily. -

So it is shoot on site, but vehicles are every where, mind*uck!! So if i find a vehicle in woods, say its someones with lots of loot, kinda like a bandit camp, do i leave it or take it? And again, i can kill anyone or see, i dont mind not, i just dont want to assume its a non pvp server to be shoot in the back, and ill come on tomorrow, about 10am. Is there anyway i can communicate to friendlys when i play. My in game name is Will Interesting name i know. See ya soon.. :P -
Your english is not that good so It's difficult to understand you and therefore you may find it difficult to read english also, So I'm going to try and explain this the best I can. If you pickup an AS50 TWS off a dead body OR out of a Tent, etc It is not Legit! These weapons are NOT found in the Mod, So it was Scripted into the game by a cheater so Picking one up and using it puts YOU at risk of being banned for Scripting, So if you ever find one, Just leave it there. Secondly, I have read through the thread and it sounds to me that you or someone in your "group" is a scripter because no one is that "lucky" to able to gear up with those sort of items and have items to repair vehicles right by them.. If you are NOT a scripter than I'd sudgest staying away from your group before they get you into a more serious ban. The evidence is stacked against you honestly, So just move on. If this was on a Server I owned I'd also would have banned you.

Thats what I am afraid of death at a camp could lead to discovery you know tent bugs and such if you see a player die in the middle of no where with no close by players could indicate tent bug or something else. I don't see how this helps detect hackers in fact it could cause a lot of bans for people who are innocent. Scenario: Survivor A is killed by hacker he is 10 meters away the nearest player is Survivor B at 20 meters totally unaware on the other side of a building, Hill , Thicket of trees. Admin checks logs see survivor a who complained of hacker was killed and when and where notices survivor B was close to A and assumes he must be hackers friend as he hasn't died ! Scenario: Survivor Jimmy has made a nice camp has a few vehicles and tents. He is riding his bike back to camp when he runs into a tree and kills himself Admin A checks logs finds Jimmy was killed at location in the middle of no where. Admin investigates with high hopes finds camp.

Damn man, that sucks. There are vehicles around the map somewhere. We just lost a chopper and ural. But upon reset you won't lose anything from our server. Everything saves properly, so feel free to check us out and see what you think.
