Tired of whine posts, well here is another
Zombie Jesus posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Just kidding, well sort of. I get much of the frustration in the community because I have experienced 99% of the same problems that you have in my four months playing this game. I have sworn to never play again after a hacker death, I have lost a 28 day old character to a rock, have died to snipers, been killed by people I have helped, died to bugs, had gear disappear, lost countless tents, lost countless vehicles, suffered friendly fire, and even crashed on the airfield due to a graphics glitch (more accurately a buddy crashed into my car and both exploded killing four of us). I get the frustration, but some of it is misplaced (Arma 2 update is responsible for graphics bug and being tied to Arma 2 also makes it hard to combat hackers) or fails to see what this game can become if standalone is properly rolled out (think much less hacking and ability to address glitches/bugs in quick fashion). Some of this is lack of communication, but this has been addressed by Rocket himself. http://dayzmod.com/f...-radio-silence/ He explains why he has been absent and why it is sometimes hard to provide updates (gets hate for saying working on it without a concrete answer so why say anything). The next patch will be done when the issues that can be fixed are fixed. This is a small development team, so lets all calm down and allow the process to play out bitching is not going to make anything better. Now I am not somebody just being a fanboy, but in some respects I can own that label since I love the concept of this game and that earns respect toward the person who came up with this concept through a mod. I have felt like the open alpha is a double edged sword because it allowed his concept to gain steam but now you have people who expect the game to work in alpha stage or are too impatient to wait a couple of months for a more polished release. If the alpha was closed you would not see this level of whining, but at this point it would be unfair to close the alpha for the mod, so we are stuck with this situation. I actually do not mind if people leave the game and wait for what will hopefully come. If the next patch drops and you continue to see bugs and glitches that would make your experience a bad one wait until those issues are fixed. When the standalone releases read up on the product and buy it if it meets your expectations, if not wait or save your money for something else. We do not all have to like what is currently there, but this culture of entitlement is beyond annoying. Since this is the interweb I expect nice civil responses leading to a rational discourse on the future of this game (nah just do what I do and be a dick). TL;DR, show some patience and quit your bitching. -
Stop saying "friendly" and immediately trusting me
JadeQueen replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
It's simple... 1. most Players want to behave in game like they can't do in rl. beeing an asshole, mocking others, bully others is a big part of it . the opposide is out there too but not even close to the numbers of "trolls" 2. newbies get trained to be assholes. if you get a bullet in your head 5 times after spawn and you didn't even got a can of beens in your backpack you damn right if you think this fellas will kill everyone on sight. 3. It is part of the game let's be honest at a certain point in the game there isn't mutch left to do after you got equipped, the risk is high that you get killed with better equip because others want it so you shoot everyone you just dont know just to avoid it. as long as the tents and vehicles are not fixed that players can save their stuff they will defend their gear at all cost. i would make the zombies extreme hard to beat so that players HAVE to group up to survive and get good stuff there would be mutch less bandits out there. as ever sorry for bad grammar :P Have fun IG Jade -

DayZscriptKiddie replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yea and hills but The easiest camps to hit up Always when I die I can get fully geared up is at Tulga , Msta , and Three valleys High rate in most servers to have tents or vehicles. -
Common camp locations?
DayZscriptKiddie replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This one is easy Around Way north Devils castle , THe out skirts far near the airfields, And Most of the time North east sides of the map along the forming river side of the map. Normally just wander off out side and look into the map there always vehicles and Tents in stuff Iv fraps most of it. -
Something I've noticed while playing Day Z, is that you really can't trust anyone. Hell, I wouldn't even trust me. The beautiful thing about Day Z is that we are free to do whatever we want, and unfortunately due to human nature and the current "mechanics" of the game this means kill everyone and be an asshole to weaker players. I'm not saying that this is a problem, I love the added survival aspect of the game, getting loot, avoiding zombies, and avoiding the bandits. The problem, as I see it, is the rampant banditry. There is absolutely no incentive to not kill the stranger you see off in the distance. Why even try to communicate when you risk death and betrayal, when you can just shoot them and loot their hard-earned gear? On top of that, there's no risk either, no downside, no consequence. As I understand it, the bandit skins were implemented to try and stop this, but was removed because Rocket said it left, "a bad taste in his mouth." He also added that, "I'm sort of just leaving it 'as is' at the moment in the hopes that things spontaneously solve themselves or a better approach comes along." Well I'd that he was on the right track, he just didn't hit the mark. (Yes, I've done my homework). It's been two months, and the game has changed. The general consensus is Shoot on Sight, and therein lies the problem. Now before I explain, let me say that I love the design of Day Z. I love how it has nothing to do with making money, I love how most of the gameplay is left to the players to decide, and I love how it's like an anti-game compared to most games today. I never want to see the game have a money system, achievement system, tutorial, F2P with micropayments, or ANYTHING REMOTELY ASSOCIATED WITH THE CRAP WE HAVE TODAY. I want the game to stay as it is, run by the players, decided by the players and that is why I'm making this suggestion. There is no cooperation of survivors anymore, it's team up and kill or die alone. Everyone is a bandit, whether they want to be or not, there is simply no distinction between the two factions. A game that is in a perfect position to become something amazing is turning into a free-for-all deathmatch with zombies. Not everyone wants to kill, but there is just no choice. The incredible psychological human element to the game that drew so many of us in has effectively eliminated any chance of cooperation. If someone says that they are friendly, the first thing that goes through your mind now is, "Is he just going to shoot me anyway when I come out?" Likewise, the other person is probably thinking the same thing. In the end, both will come to the conclusion that they would rather kill than be killed. The factions that I'm talking about are, the people who play the game to kill others, and the people who play the game to survive and make Day Z fantastic. What do I mean by fantastic? I mean I want to see true cooperation going on between survivors. I want the bandits to be seen as the "bad guys" that they've chosen to become. I want to see survivors organizing taxi services with vehicles and buses, rescue parties with helicopters, unofficial guards for major cities. I want them to chase the bandits to the northern hills and desolate plains where they belong, a true faction vs faction war. So here's my suggestion: Bring the bandit skins back, but do it differently. Only make a survivor don the bandit skin when they shoot first (discontinued idea, see below). Do this on the first kill, no exceptions. If you choose to shoot first, the consequence is that you get a bandit skin. Now for the bandit skin itself, make them noticeable! Add a red headband on them, give them some sort of marking that doesn't go away, even when they wear a ghille suit. Now add "Bandit Kills" to the debug screen. See what I'm getting at? Bandit kills are now a good thing. It's good to kill bandits, hunt them down. Band with other survivors and scavenge the hills for those scumbags. The ultimate consequence for killing someone: you're going to become a prime target for survivors. Not only does this add realism (Isn't that the main selling point of the game?), but it provides the perfect balance to the coop vs pvp aspect. You don't sacrifice either or, you just add to the existing mechanic. This also keeps the hands-off approach to Day Z that's made it so wonderful, there's no "Pick a faction" screen, it's just another realistic part of the simulation. This also allows players to decide which way they want the game to go, do you want cooperative survival, or do you want all out PVP deathmatch? If everyone really wants to kill each other, the world will be full of bandits. If coop is the way to go, then bandits will be running scared. This gives you the unique opportunity to literally fight for your game. The easiest way I can summarize this is: Want to kill? Kill someone and be a bandit, join your bandit friends. Want to survive? Stay a survivor, help others in need and if you die, another survivor will take care of you when you respawn. Want to survive and kill? Stay a survivor, hunt them dirty bandits down. So in conclusion, a simple way to keep banditry, and the coop survival of Day Z together and balanced while adding fun and maintaining the Day Z spirit. Thanks for reading. PS Rocket, as for keeping skins, I'm sure there's a way to allow skins for both sides and make it visibly obvious which side they belong to. If you'd like a suggestion, send me a PM! Obviously this is just a starting idea, and I just wanted to get the ball rolling. Please point out any holes and such, and I will address them as best I can. This idea can work, there is no hole that cannot be patched. That's excellent, I hadn't thought of that yet. The most basic rule of this that I'd like is that nobody will ever be labeled incorrectly. My first thought to solving this would be a complicated solution involving scripting and such, but I'm sure a much more simple alternative is there. I'm tired right now, but I'm more than happy to take a look at this later. Again, this could all be solved with a simple "Bandit or Survivor" screen at the beginning of the game, but that would be taking the easy way out and striding away from the Day Z spirit. If anyone has an idea, please speak your mind! Nothing about this discourages bandits, it merely discourages rampant, needless killing and a complete lack of cooperation. Besides, bandits right now aren't really bandits, they don't even trust each other. They're groups of friends running around laughing as they kill strangers. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that (I do it too, it's fun, so sue me) but it shouldn't be the main part of the game. Thank you for reminding me, this doesn't necessarily have to include the shoot first idea, the problem with a lot of ideas is that they start with one thing and then tunnel vision into oblivion. If someone would like to start thinking of a different approach to the identifying killers, please do and post! I stopped reading here. There is no "bandit problem". It's a post-apocalyptic survival game, with very few humans left and everyone struggling to survive. Of course people are shooting others, because everyone is a threat. There are no more laws, no more witnesses, all is left are dangerous zombies and scarce weapons to defend yourself. Find a clan, get their trust and play with them. That's what I do and when we meet another player he runs for his life. I stopped reading here. It shows that you did not join this thread with any intention to give an idea a chance, you just joined to argue against the idea you thought it was. In fact, you even admit that you stopped reading, before the real reading began. (lol) Read the entire post and realize that what I'm suggesting does not conflict with your current gameplay. There is no "bandit problem," I agree, the problem is that there is no reason not to be a bandit. Not running towns, but helping each other survive. I'm not talking about clearing cities of zombies and installing a mayor (ugh), I'm talking about makeshift 'services' to help your fellow survivor. A group of survivors patrols Cherno to keep it safe for their fellow man, greets newbies and gives them essentials. I read something about a guy going around as "The Doctor" and he had an entourage of people who protected him as they went server to server helping people, that sounds amazing! A group of people organize a bus that goes along the main road on the beach to give free rides to people. The possibilities are endless and it's all limited by the fact that nobody wants to work together and help eachother survive in the zombie apocalypse. Even without the bandit skin idea, raising the difficulty a ton would work as well. Making it so nightmarish that banding together is the only way to survive would be a good way to stop reckless killing. Again, I just want to get the ball rolling, I'm not saying my idea is the best one out there. I'm much more in favor of a karma system now that I think about it, although I think loot chances are way too game-y for Day Z and implementing that would be much harder than a conventional MMO due to the way items are spawned. I love the idea of people in between keeping the tense, "Do I trust this person?" while giving truly good survivors the chance to help people.

Your Best Story Of Avoiding Death Legit
TheManFromTheWoods replied to Wabid Wabit's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was walking from the church to the hospital in electro between buildings when i made my way under the garage that connects to the street infront of the hospital. the sound of a m249 singing started up outside the hospital. i backed up in between the buildings and gathered my thoughts as the m249 seemed to be endless with ammo. the m249 paused briefley and i heard the sound of vehicles on the main street pulling up in front the hospital. I peaked around the corner to see 2 black escalades and four ghillies at the hospital. the one behind the main counter began singing with the m249 out the glass and a pile of dead zombies lay out front. i tossed a smoke through the garage area infront the hospital as diversion and made my around the south end of the building. popped a warning shot with the lee enfield at a ghillie and hijacked an escalade. all i heard on direct was you mother F***er and i gunned it onto the main road heading north pressed alt saw the other escalade behind me not giving up. checked the debug saw i had a bandit kill and realized the warning shot had taken out their buddy. i ran the escalade out of gas just past nizhnoye and hoofed it on foot towards the woodline ghilies jumped out of thier vehicle and opened up. i serpetined further into the woods taking a hit dropping me to the ground the men refuel'd the other escalade and took off back towards electro. I bandaged and sat their with a broken leg for a few minutes and figured that was it for me seeing how i never made it into the hospital for med supplies. crawled back down to nizhnoye and let the zombies have their way with me only lost a lee enfield and two pepsi's not to bad. -
there once was a server who found out how to make a mod for admins and spawned extra vehicles and was always watching for hackers. It was a really fun server because the admins were fair and never gave anyone shit. unfortunately, that server was shut down probably because the fact that it was modded to make it more survivable. In an actual zombie apocalypse, i highly doubt 99% cars wont work and if they do, everything is broken on them.

Marvel actually had a solid point, once you looked past his nerd-rage. Pay one guy on your staff to spend one day going through the map and remove all the dead bodies and barbed wire that's causing these artifacts. Then release a patch to the public with these changes. Boom, functioning work-around. It might take TWO whole days for a guy to do this task though. I know, it's asking a lot... The patch would probably be a large one because you would have to download a whole new map, but if it fixes the graphic glitches people won't care. Then if you could work on tents/vehicle saves we'd be golden. Sure hackers are a problem, but they've made it clear they aren't going to work on addressing that issue until stand-alone. Tents and vehicles however were working fine a few patches ago.

Interested in this thread. Our camp got discovered in the middle of bloody nowhere, lost our vehicles and he killed us all. :(

I really love this idea. To be able to protect your vehicles from snipers and collisions ect. Maybe make trucks like the Ural drive a tad slower the more metal protection it have, to make it more balanced. That makes you have a choice for what kind of car you want, the more tanky one or the faster one for picking up friends and stuff. Maybe be able to find some kind of camouflage kit for the cars, to make them more invisible in the forests. I would basically just love alot more possibilities with the vehicles (chopper aswell maybe), since they are some of the only things I go out and look for when maxed out in gear (gps, rangefinder, weapons and so on) So you sir, can definitely have my beans! (Does that sound wierd? :D) P.S. Sorry for any bad grammar, english isn't my native language :-)
-
I'd say just watch for obvious things if you can - like a player that logs in and goes directly to a vehicle. For example, we've had several instances of people who leave a bicycle and take one of our vehicles - which more than likely means they spawned on the coast, went directly to the nearest bicycle and then used it to go directly to our vehicle to take it.

I was looting Elektro and was leaving the hospital as I began to get surrounded by tons of zombies. I started running and found a bus crashed into the church as it usually is. I got into it just in case it was working and to my surprise it actually had a little gas and only one red part (the engine.) So I started backing it up and pulling away and a guy came running out of the church through the zombies that were mobbing us and asked me to wait for him. So I let him get in and drove all the way through the city towards Cherno. I kept trying to talk to him while we drove and he never said anything. His character was always looking down at the ground and not moving. I finally pulled over, waited in case he was afk and finally kept going. When I got to Cherno I pulled over and got out. He never said anything or moved and he wasn't showing up on my crosshairs as a survivor or any other sort of character. He just sat there looking at the floor. Eventually I selected "get into back seat" and I sat over his body and a gear option came up and I was able to loot him. So my question is, can people die in vehicles? And when they do I assume that they don't fall out? I'm just wondering because it would be sad that I saved someone and they died later on, especially because he had a hero skin. :(

My favorite style of play is group oriented; currently I play with a friend in a group of 2 and we often seek to gear up as much as possible, pursue vehicles and most of all we enjoy to PvP. Ideally we like to engage other groups, it's much more competitive. We currently actively use skype when we play.

Helicopter Crash Site Smoke/Burning
AnnieGYG replied to BillyBobJoe (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Depends on which server I'm on if I see it or not 90% of the time I don't see it at all. It might be only private hives I see smoke on but I can't be 100% certain. Sometimes at night I've seen crash sites light up a whole area like the Northern Lights, other times I can almost walk into one at night and see nothing. Does anyone get the same with burning sounds at crash sites? Sometimes there, and soemtimes not? Sorry Geordie, I spotted a wreck site immediately on a live server restart today (actually crapped myself when it spawned 500m away from me since it wasn't there 5 minutes before reset :) ) and sadly it had no smoke at all for me. I believe when you are driving vehicles you see a lot of smoke from all of them (none of the passengers could see the smoke though) I'd love to know what causes this as well, our graphics settings, a server setting? -
So not to quibble but how much longer do we need to endure Hive 0.7.3?
ChernoPTA posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'm pretty sure all metrics generated at this point indicate that Hive 0.7.3 is about as broken as it can possibly be without it being completely unable to allow incoming connections from the server network entirely. Vehicles don't save their positions, tents do not save their inventory, people log out of a server and log back in to find their backpacks full of crap they never put in there. Vehicle inventories are completely unreliable, spawn data is not randomizing loot node chance, the same tents in Stary have the same stuff nearly every time you go to them, and if its not the same AKM/M1014/occasional AKS Kobra, its enough tin cans and detritus to build a junk fort castle with. Seriously, what gives? This isn't helping the persistent experience at all, its chasing players off servers and towards private hives and overall...theres not much more "alpha" data you should need, looking at the dev-heaven issues on it, to get something done about it. Don't mean to be harping at all but Hive 0.7.3 is making server 1.7.2.5 look a lot more broken than it actually is. -
There's a issue with 1.7.2.5 not saving vehicles properly. That's why.

Good to see a suggestion that is well detailed and explained. However I don’t agree with the concept at all. In essence you are suggesting that the consequence of losing Humanity is degrading into zombiism (is that a word?) and I dont like that as a concept. I don’t like the idea that everyone is already infected and that the "virus" is exacerbated by aggression / violence. Personally I think that zombie bites should be infectious, (and curable) as this would add a brilliant mechanic to the game, especially when playing in a team. However I dont agree with the system you have suggested. I just cant bring myself to like the idea of a virus that’s triggered by being shit. I don’t love that people that are brutal killers in this game, but no-one can deny they are a large part of what makes the game tense. The only reason bandits are currently out of control is the insane proliferation of what are supposed to be ultra rare weapons has meant everyone on a server is armed to the teeth. Once you have all the weapons you want, you think “now what?” . Clearly the “now what” for a lot of people seems to be “sit on a hill and shoot at noobs” (for me the answer ot the “now what?” question is trying to fix vehicles). I think once hacking is under control you will get less bored kids just killing people for fun as they will be too busy surviving and scrounging. A lot of people have suggested what rewards / penalties could be instituted for various humanity scores, but I think any system that links to humanity needs to be very subtle and realistic. I dont think something overt like becoming a zed, or gaining some kind of clear advantage is a good idea.
-
I can't vote yet either as a Server Admin paying to host a Server for the game when there's issues regarding vehicles and art factual glitches. Not to mention the hacking problem. I find difficult to maintain a server due to the lack of players on the servers at the moment. Used to regular news and update on possible fixes, I was on the forums on a daily basis helping ppl and checking to see what is being done to resolve the few things that still stands between this being a Great Mod / GAME... But sadly nothing about any pending updates or fixes. Just this award at least there was a chance to express some concern And Job well done thus far.

New Major BattlEye Anti-Cheat Features
[email protected] replied to cm. (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Ok, I dont have the logs as im not home atm, but ive been getting something to this effect in my logs. beeeh = this mysheep = this I have a few entries a long those lines, using nothing but those 2 exact codes, they show up in my createvehicle.log. Any idea what these are? I feel like they might be stealth code executions. EDIT: OK, so here are some examples. There has to be something going on here, as it happening very frequently, and im noticing more and more heli crashes before restarts. Must be a new method of spawning vehicles. 05.09.2012 21:27:50: player (ip) guid - #0 "_spawnAIS = this;" 05.09.2012 21:28:00: player (ip) guid - #0 "_spawnAIS = this;" 05.09.2012 21:28:03: player (ip) guid - #0 "_spawnAIS = this;" 05.09.2012 21:28:06: player (ip) guid - #0 "_spawnAIS = this;" 05.09.2012 21:28:07: player (ip) guid - #0 "_spawnAIS = this;" 05.09.2012 21:28:10: player (ip) guid - #0 "_spawnAIS = this;" 05.09.2012 21:28:35: player (ip) guid - #0 "beeeh = this" 05.09.2012 21:53:15: player (ip) guid - #0 "[this] spawn BIS_Effects_AirDestruction" 05.09.2012 21:53:20: player (ip) guid - #0 "[this, 8.34463, 21965.1]spawn BIS_Effects_AirDestructionStage2" 05.09.2012 21:53:24: player (ip) guid - #0 "[this, 8.34463, 21965.1,false,true]spawn BIS_Effects_Burn" Considering that [this] is called for in the crash, I believe that the above * = this is referring to spawning a heli by some means. Thoughts? -
In my opinion they don't want to fix it. They want people to play the standalone not the mod. Broken mod or standalone game? Whats your choice? Mine? Running a server I can switch from Chernarus to Lingor, and now to Utes whenever I feel like it. No one loses data on any of the maps when another is loaded. And there are the beginnings of Takistan maps popping up. If I see someone hacking, I can ban them 100% Permanent, No arguement. Someone being racist or otherwise derogatory, banned no questions asked. Thats they way this should have been working. Tents and vehicles work in 1.7.2.5 on the Private Hives, apparently not a difficult fix. The fact that my Official Hive servers see little to no action at all anymore tells me this mod is dying, fast. The private hives? Packed, I am thinking of upgrading our slot count I had to kick a suspected hacker to make room for myself the other day.
