    Yeah, don't need quests or any bullshit like that. I just feel the game is far too easy with just the zombies as the protagonist. And by player interaction I don't mean for pvp necessarily. Some of the best moments in video games for me have come from the tense stand offs in this mod. I would much rather have those moments than set "fix all vehicles" as a challenge for myself. If you are determined to play on a server by yourself or with just a few friends, why not 100 head shots out of 100 kills? Still, it won't beat the adrenaline from bumping into another player.

    It's not all that bad, perhaps you could think about it in a different way. This could form a part of base building where once players have set up camp they can then start building these vehicles inside their bases.
  4. I am not sure this is covered under the immersion aspect but, will this be a Vanilla Chernarus Server? ie. Not over powered loots and 80+ vehicles. What DayZ should be basically.
  5. I barely escaped dying by thirst when I was looking for vehicles up north. Luckily I found a dam nearby to fill up my water bottle. Sweet, sweet water.

    I can't play with the music on, freaks me out and on top of that when you are as pap with a weapon like me, you need total silence to detect everything around you. Though I wouldn't mind a radio in vehicles, that would allow me to take long Sunday drives in the country!

    I've had fun with my own server as well. messed around, building campsite, outposts... repairing vehicles ive found. After repairing and filling up my helicopter, I got it off the ground and went to find a clear area near a gas station to refill. I used Auto-Hover at first, so I could get use to the controls. Turned it off.... immediately flipped upside down and crashed into an island... lol... need more practice! lol

    Adding more vehicle spawns

    I use the Saintly flavor for Lingor, but its called vehicles.pl. Scroll down to "my $numGenerated=0;#counter for the number of generated vehicles". Here you will see what vehicles spawn, how many can be on the map, and what the chance of spawn is.

    Items Dissapearing?

    Date/Time: September 24th What happened: Items in backpacks stored in vehicles are gone Where you were: in my camp What you were doing: Getting a gun *Current installed version: 1.7.2.6 *Server(s) you were on: US 1769 *Timeline of events before/after error: Going to get sniper rifle out of my car, the sniper was stored in an alice pack that was stored in the back of my UAZ. I put on the pack and checked the items and it was empty, same with all the other backpacks stored in the back of my vehicle. The vehicles were saved along with everything else in the camp. The backpacks were all there just not the items inside them.
  10. Sorry if the spelling is wrong but I think you all know what map I am talking about.. In Short, in a city map there is NOTHING in the city for the players, the loot spawns are mental and totally out of whack with the game the end result is that EVERYONE heads into the south air field where they can get everything they could possibly need in one run, after that there is no reason for them to go back to the city they just sit and shoot people. I think each District needs to have a shop, a fire station and at least 10 or more houses that you can enter and that spawn loot, this will allow people to stay within a district rather than FORCING them to goto a stupidly large and over geared airfield. I also think the vehicle spawn points should be moved so their ALL inside the city and not have most vehicles spawn in the outer locations. Finally a central location in the map which would be the hot spot, something like Stary Sober, which would then be the main draw into the center of the city to get the best loot. Finally you need to put Palm forest around the outside of the city, I know its supposed to be a desert, but the whole west side should be forest due to the water, the east side could be all as it is, desert and dry which gives the players more play options. Right now the map is a very bad design for DayZ, the Air Field totally destroys the flow of the region and funnels ALL players into it and giving them no reason to leave it, even the Cherno North West Airfield which I think is just the right size pales in comparison to the size of this Air Field, it needs to be removed from the map, possibly adding a small number of barracks to the south west corner of the city in those open space between the roads or in the central part of the map. As it is right now this map is broken, and in my opinion not suitable for DayZ standalone.

  12. I agree, you definitely need to make it 1st person only if you want the server to function correctly. I think you will get plenty of interest in it even with everything set to "hard". I've actually been quite bored of DayZ lately... been playing Lingor, but that's even worse in some ways, you can have a car and 5 top tier weapons in one session... then what? This server might add a bit of the stress back to the game, which is what made it great in the first place. The only other issue for me personally is the unreliability of tents/vehicles saving etc. I don't like to build up massive camps or hoard vehicles, but I do like to have one or two tents in different locations with medical supplies or ammo or something, but the state of the game makes it a little hard to do this. But obviously this isn't your fault and the devs are the only ones who can fix this. I'm not really expecting a fix until standalone tbh, but maybe then, depending on how they want to set things up, admins may have a bit more control over their servers, and this server of yours could start up running the standalone with basically the same rules you want to put in place.... or I would hope so anyway. The way you plan to set it up sounds pretty good and it sounds like it would work pretty well. Also, I agree with RpG above, I don't think most people would have messed with their FOV before, but if you're going to be playing first person you NEED to change it, the default is simply quite shit. It's amazing once altered correctly. EDIT: As part of this server, I would have a list of new FOV values for people to put into their config files depending on their resolution. That way everyone can get an enhanced experience much more easily.
  13. Well when a server like this comes up, let us know. Otherwise, we're all still looking. We want custom weapons, not custom vehicles. Custom vehicles are being done on damn near every server, custom weapons are a different story.

    How to FIX Falluja Map.

    Whoa man tell us how you really feel about it. They are being lazy with the maps but it still adds value to a mod that is mostly dead from the developers perspective and other people are welcome to try their hand at adding maps to the dayz mod (I really would love it if another group or independent modders tried their hand at this). The vehicles do not feel like Dayz, but who cares you can always play Chernarus if you want to be a purist (at least Lingor has different zombie models that fit). With that being said I had a ton of fun rolling around the streets in an armored Humvee and had an epic air battle with another helicopter on the map (I know go play ArmA2 but it was still awesome). I really want them to release some of the other maps as well, it breaks up the monotony of waiting for the standalone. To the original post, yes they should add some more spawn locations but there is another military base on the edge of town somewhere with barracks, I forget where it is but it has a decent amount of loot there. You can get incredible gear in one pass at the airfield, but you have to survive the multiple campers to even get there so good luck. I would not go that far.

    Private Hive Takistani/Fallujah vehicle list

    Huey, Chinook, Osprey, C130 (plane), and little bird are air vehicles I have seen. I have seen a UAZ, an offroad with Dshk, and a Humvee with a .50 call machine gun are the vehicles I have seen (also an old bicycle). The vehicles with weapons are insane, you can easily take down a chopper with a Humvee.

    running 1.7.2.6 and shit ain't saving. well it does for like 4 or 5 days, and then its just gone. tents and all -edit, and we regularly access the tents and vehicles but it doesnt seem to matter the less used ones despawn with the most used ones all the same, wire and tank traps as well.

  20. Problem is Vilayer are grabbing any map they can made by other peoples labours then badly porting the mod to them. Fallujah is/was an AWESOME map for recreating Iraq style patrols and ambushes/contacts..... it was made for that, it's completely shit as a DayZ map for the reasons you mentioned. I see nothing about DayZ in the map..... you seen how many armed vehicles and choppers it has? It's ARMA for people that can't make it in ARMA. Also throw a flare at night........ they didnt even bother giving the zombies a day/night cycle they wont react to the flare, they will react to a smoke grenade. Finally there is a mass of arab civilain models included in ARMA OA (so we all have them) why have Vilayer given us 2 Arab maps now and not bothered to arab the zombies (am I the only one thinking its pathetic being chased round a mosque by a catholic priest)? The joy is they claim to have 13 more maps in the pipeline great way to fragment and cheapen the mod TLDR - Vilayer are profit mongering arses whoring the mod till it dies with 3rd rate ports
  21. I'm pretty sure there is no "official" list. Anyone running a server can just edit out whatever banned vehicles they want so I'm sure it is different from server to server.

    Personally, I've never shot another player and I'm not interested in doing so but I can see from the game that many do. I'd love to see private servers that kick out anyone who PvPs but then there should be PvP servers too. However, I can't see Rocket allowing that. On vehicles, if you find one and work on it then it should be yours until it's stolen or written off in my view, not just disappear after x days.
  23. Good News! We just started US 1012 (Private Hive) and we are working on doing this. Right now we do have extra vehicles and some added custom ones. The problem is custom weapons. We want to add some variety of weapons but nothing to OP. But the server invokes a ban file that is present on the client side. So first we have to disable the ban file to even set them up. This is not going to be easy. Also we have discovered the loot generation is really governed by the client as well. When person A approaches a building, person A spawns the loot. Person B can enter said building AFTER person A and see the same loot. Now if Person B has a modified PBO that has a different loot table bypassing the ban file, if person B enters the building before person A, the new loot table will be used. If person A enters the building AFTER person B, person A WILL see the modified loot. The kicker is if Person A spawns the loot BEFORE Person B, its the default loot, you would have to cycle the building THEN FORCE person B to spawn the loot for the new table. Like I said, we are working on this and might have an answer soon. As far as vehicles, we can spawn different types and more, but we can't spawn banned vehicles, we want to spawn in some littlebee's/merlins without weapons etc. If we allow some way over the top stuff, the server will become unbalanced. Also on the table is removing any thermal weapons to create more chaotic firefights. So thats what I have, and hopefully we can fulfill requests like these in the short weeks to come.

    I think I read the worst suggestion ever for this game in this thread, the vehicle respawn nonsense. Maybe respawn vehicles after three days of no use (also fixes scripters teleporting vehicles into the water so no one can have them), but an hour is perhaps the single worst suggestion I have ever witnessed on these forums. Those of you who do not run around in a group finding vehicles to fix up have no idea how time consuming this process is, it can take an entire game session to just get a single vehicle up and running, now you want it to respawn after I log out of the game so you can just walk up and have a repaired vehicle? Or maybe you mean respawn it needing to be fixed up again, which is just as bad because now someone else has to find all the parts only to lose the vehicle on logout. Apparently you did not see the amount of anger that was on display when vehicle saving was not working properly but let me clue you in, people hate losing hours of work because someone else is too lazy to find a vehicle. Increase the vehicle amount sure, make it so inactive vehicles respawn after a couple of days fine, but if you think anyone is going to be fine with losing vehicles to make your dayz life easier you are mistaken.

    You must be lucky with choice of server or have way too much time on your hands, I usually find that a scripter or three has messed with vehicles or there is a clan hoarding them, I think that there should be some kind of anti-hoarding measure MAYBE but I still say that if vehicles moved after a short time it would be bad. Tents losing gear after death is sort of like your tent being stolen from by people finding it now you are dead and can no longer protect it, or at least thats how I would see it. All that said PENDRAGON hit the nail on the head, we should have no real input as to how the game is made, just how well a mechanism works or doesn't when alpha testing but no input as to whether it becomes a part of the final game etc.
