Didnt know about server hosting rules changes in regards to side chat.... if its true its v.nice to hear. ------------------------------- ------------------------------- I never said buy another server.... U mentioned edit the mission files so i assumed u got full access i.e a dedicated server or vps one. So u could just use the same machine till its all setup. I went from 2 offical servers (had anywhere from 4-8 hackers a day) down to 1 private server (i am lucky to see 1 hacker in the logs a day now). As for hackers they are everywhere, and it only takes 1 hacker to mess up a server. Imagine a hacker that goes & deploys 50 barbed wire + 50 sandbags + 50 tank traps in 1 town. And then saves all the vehicles randomly elsewhere. And goes & emptys all the tents + saves them ------------------------- ------------------------- Offical servers have rules + restrictions for admins... Private servers have zero rules + restrictions for admins... Whichever u choose u will need to learn to update (+custom them aswell i.e kick aggressive for publicvariables) battleye filters, ban hackers. Curse the hackers that have a bypass + blatently kill players while admin is online.... None of this will change atleast not until the standalone is released

Evening chaps. Joined the forums just to post this story. It might be a bit of a long one but I thought it one worth telling. Pull up a chair, put the kettle on and read on. I'd been surviving for about 3 hours at a time before this spawn, so I chose Male or Female skins at random. For this adventure I went with the Female skin in the lame hope that people would think a split-second longer about shooting a female on-sight compared to a Male. Worth a try... I spawn to the west of Kamenka, which by now has to be regarded as the absolute worst place to spawn on the map. Nevertheless I'm on a mission to meet two of my buddies who've made their way to the lighthouse between Kamenka and Komarovo. In the very distance I see they've lit it up like a christmas tree and in the pitch black I sprint to it without stopping to look at any other building on the way. When I get there I meet my hombres, one of them has found a bicycle and the other has a hatchet for me, I feel like all of my birthday's have come at once as we proceed eastwards towards the Balota airfields. As this was an older version of the game the airfield was graphics glitching all over the show but we managed to hatchet our way out of there with some degree of style, bicycle still in tow, but still without any projectile weaponry. We headed North-ish hoping to find a few better supplies and dodge Cherno, but soon became hopelessly lost. By this point I'm still a complete n00b at DayZ but somehow have a bit of a penchant for navigation in real life. I manage to decipher the hills and roads around me and let my buddies know that we're actually next to Vysota hill, just north of Cherno, and soon after we are attacked by about a dozen zombies. We do our best to hack as many Z's as possible but my friend (who isn't chilling on the bike) breaks his leg and we are all bleeding out and dropping into greyness, I assume we're going to die and prepare for the cold embrace of death. We make one more pledge to sprint to the hospital tents in Cherno and vow to die fighting rather than bleeding out in the woods. Despite not being able to stand with his broken leg, my partner manages to ride a bike perfectly fine so he lights a flare and leads the way on his two-wheels to Cherno. Despite wading into the city with such an obvious fanfare we escape detection from every human player on the server and actually manage to get patched up. After assuming that Cherno must be just about empty we do some looting and I finally get a weapon in the shape of a Lee Enfield with about 10 mags. Our last stop for the night is the Cherno firestation and I'm leading the way on my belly towards the front doors. As I crawl in my blood runs cold as in the corner of my eye I see a survivor aiming a revolver up the stairs. By now my two other buddies are by my side and they sneak up to and hatchet the guy to death - at least they would've if he was alive, he is merely a glitched out body that hasn't disappeared yet. He has a better pack than me so I swap my pack and log off for the night. The next day we raid the supermarket and manage to get some wilderness survival tools between us, then we set out for the NW airfield. To my horror I realise that my pack swapping from the night before has left me WITHOUT a pack at all, and worse still, my Lee Enfield was in the pack. In what feels like forever, we run north towards the airfield and I am feeling like the biggest noob in existence without a pack (and somehow without a flashlight too, I don't even know...). Luckily we manage to stumble across a helicopter crash site and I go from zero to hero after finding a Bizon with 3 mags. Suddenly I feel like one of the team as we continue to the airfield. We head towards a shed next to the soutern-most barracks and by now it's pitch black. We've got a few flares but I'm still hopelessly without flashlight and I have no idea about the gamma slider trick yet! We all crawl into this shed and I anticipate that something has gone very wrong. We sit in total stillness for about 3 minutes, proned on the floor, thinking we may not have aggro'd any zombies...and then they came. From both exits in pitch darkness the Z'd pile in. I am letting fly with my Bizon like there's no tomorrow, desperately trying not to hit my buddies in a room that is about the size of a car. They just keep coming and coming and once again, I assume that we're going to die. Not today! Just as my Bizon empties and the smoke settles on the new zombie carpet, we get a few minutes respite and I blood transfuse and medic my buddies to full health. I ditch the Bizon and we all agree to have another crack at the NW Airfield once daylight arrives. In the mean time we head north west towards the vehicle spawn point but find it empty. We log off once more. When I log back in I am completely alone. My buddies began long before I got home from work, so I find myself utterly stranded - still without pack, flashlight and projectile weapon - in one of the most remote parts of the map. At least I have my health! I agree to meet one of my buddies at the NW airfield so I can get some of my shit together, when on the way across Bashnya mountain, I see a Ural parked in the trees. I suddenly hit the deck and watch the truck for about 15 minutes with my binoculars, just waiting to see movement. There's nothing. What the hell, I'm going to get that truck! I make a mad desperate dash, hatchet in hand, climb into the drivers seat and gun it off of the mountain. I run a few circles to confuse any would-be persuer but I couldn't hear any shots or see any action in my rear-view. Now I've got no weapons, no pack, but a truck, which is probably one of the rarest things in the game. My buddy finally meets up with me - now some way from the airfield - and to my shock he has brought me a DMR. What a hero! We agree to stash the vehicle, and to this day I'm shocked nobody heard the engine starting up when we drove it to safety. We logged out. When we logged back in the vehicle was gone. I'm alone again, but feeling genuinely more badass with my DMR. My friends are at Stary Sobor so I hotfoot it there only to find them embroiled in a tense sniper situation. I crawl up to the ledge where just about everyone overlooks the military tents and I find one of my guys there. The other is down in the tents under sniper fire. We skirt around for ages trying to find the sniper but to no avail. Eventually the gunfire stops and we assume he's logged out. Suddenly in the distance we hear the roar of a Ural engine and from the ridge we see it thundering through town. It was too far away to take any decent pot shots but we assume it's heading to Novy Sobor to refuel and so we leg it at breakneck speed towards the fuel dump. Sadly our predictions were incorrect and nobody was there. Instead we head to the Church, loot it, and log off for another night. There is about a two-week break here before I logged on again. I'm in the church again and this time I've picked a server with only one other person on it just to try and re-learn the controls again. It's pitch black (again...) but now I've finally got a flashlight. As I spend about 15 minutes trying to figure out how to get my flashlight into my hand without losing my pistol I hear faint footsteps and to my absolute horror a road flare comes flying in through the open church door. In sheer absolute panic, I'm ashamed to say, I disconnected. Despite the fact I had the drop on this guy (who was probably a new spawn in Stary) and had a DMR, I was so petrified I could only think to quit! When I finally pluck up the courage to play again, I'm solo once more, I make my way again to the NW airfield. I'm a lot more confident at the game now and I'm a bit of an expert at patiently avoiding Zs. I find a G17 at the barracks and finally an ALICE pack so I can actually carry some shit at long last. I also find a tent and a ghille suit. Being female I can't wear it so I stow it away in case I ever run into my friends again. After nearly dying in the aircraft hangars because I didn't realise Zs could run in them, I patch myself up at one of the airfield buildings and then crawl to the northern-most hangar. Again, there's only one other person on the server, so imagine my horror when I hear gunshots from where I'd just been patching myself up! My spine undergoes the familiar freezing and I scan the open airfield through the scope of my DMR. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I see a guy running South across the runways followed by about twenty Zs. I bite the bullet, decide not to shoot, and instead ask across Direct if he 'needs any help?'. He starts frantically looking around trying to spot where I might be before finally he STOPS DEAD to try and type a reply. The inevitable happens and he gets sacked by about 6 zombies at the same time. The rest catch up to him and as I ponder whether it's worth a DMR mag to try and save him, I see his death message. At least there are bigger noobs than me playing this game. From here my story gets boring as I live off of the land and don't see another human player for days. I start hunting for vehicles and possible stash locations but find nothing. Becoming aimless and bored I decide to pitch my tent and stuff it full of goodies for when my friends return to the server. I test out several potential hiding spots before settling for one just north of Gvozdno, a godforsaken town where nobody would ever stop to visit. I pitch my tent and run around the outside doing concentric circles to see how well hidden it is and to be perfectly honest, it's almost invisible. Great! I walk towards my tent to put the first loot inside but I can't seem to get the menu up. I go prone and crawl closer to the tent - LEG BREAK. For no reason at all I suffer a broken bone. No problem, I have the gear to fix it, I access my gear - SANDTIMER. The time is running down over my head and I still hold out hope that I can heal myself... YOU ARE DEAD. My 53-day-old character was dead. She died from crawling into a tent and glitching. Back to the beach.

DayZ DIAF - A custom DayZ Mod I'm working on. Input appreciated!
venthos replied to venthos's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well, DayZ night time is only easy on moon lit nights when you can turn your gamma up hehe. I'd make it moonless nights permanently but I think the server would just be a ghost town then. This makes me sad because I'd love to play with other people where we're forced to use chem lights and flares. I wouldn't write off the whole lighting thing, but I'm trying not to be too quick with drastic changes. It seems very popular to load the map with vehicles, C130s, more crash sites, more zombie models, and just otherwise try and cram everything Rocket didn't put into the mod... into the mod. I dislike that very much and hope I'm able to attract the crowd that is more of a DayZ "purist" by not following some of those other custom mods. I'm trying to keep changes subtle, tasteful, and true to the spirit of DayZ. But, yes, big changes will be made eventually. I just want to get a bit of a player base going, some of the minor stuff patched up and some cool little things in place before I set dev time aside for some big mechanic changes. The 'more things on fire' has promise. I know Chernarus seems to be the only city with pre-lit oil barrels that provide light sources at night. I've always liked panicking "... did someone light that or was that just always on?" and being unsure on my approach. The public server should be up within the hour. -
So I was walking around trying to find some vehicles when I hear the chopper flying over head, I seem him land about 300m west of me, being the cautious person I am, I got out the range finder and looked to see their numbers. As they started get back into the chopper i noticed one look my way, then next thing i new the gunner was shooting a few rounds in my direction. Not sure if he was just trying to point out where to go next if he was being a "lets shoot for no reason" noob, or if he was aiming at me, either way I assumed they were after me. Next thing that happens, the chopper lands right next to me, so at this point I throw out a grenade (I always keep one on my person as a contingency) and opened fire on them. I think i only killed one, but after i was killed i ran back to find the chopper was still there as well as 4 corpses as well as my own, which makes me think they might of shot each other in the cross fire, (which in my book is a WIN) Also noticed that a few of them had G36SD camos on them as well (hacked?) so took one ad burried the rest, also took full advantage and took the chopper for my self, i can fly them pretty well, but i just cant land them so soon after i did crash it while trying to land. Any way, here is the video of the little firefight. Enjoy http://youtu.be/VMlPYdzzzh4]

I wish vehicles were saved to character instead of server
Asuka replied to sostronk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why do people think any kind of safety measure like keys would work? Why would a hacker need a car when they can just spawn any vehicle they please? Hell, some people teleport to vehicles and wreck them just for fun, why would they waste their time looking for something when they can just make it? -
NVG's, the downfall of DayZ "suspense"
[email protected] replied to Arctic33's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Rather than removing NVG's, how about having them perform as in the real world? Apart from the sensible suggestion that has been put before about limited life batteries, there is another obvious but overlooked weakness in NVG's. Light Sources. If you are using NVG's and especially the earlier generation ones, it becomes an absolute pain in the arse to use them when there are strong light sources in your veiw. Having someone flash a white light source across your goggles leaves you blinded in quite an impressive way....maybe a new use for the in-game flares? Using them in a built up area where there could/should be sources of bright illumination ranging from vehicles, self powered lights ( emergency lighting ) actual fires from the disaster and maybe the occasional military base/aircraft launching flares would prove a bit of a challenge. This would mean the NVG user is going to be at an disadvantage on occasion if moving through an urban area, and a quick witted player could chuck a flare down if they think they are being stalked and maybe..just maybe make a run for it. -
I think I'll just wait it out this time. It's a major bug with all the vehicles that needs to be addressed by the devs.

Where is our chopper... this is starting to be a joke.
sp86 replied to Secrets's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Vehicles haven't been respawning with the latest patch. I thought the groundhog's day bullshit in 1.7.2.5 was bad but at least I had access to vehicle. -
Funny, this. I found an Old Bike maybe 10 minutes into my first ever life (2 days ago). Later on that night, on my 3rd life, I found another. I think my next objective is going to try and locate and repair an ATV. I think I know the answer to this extremely Bambi question, but I will ask anyway... Vehicles (and tents?) are server specific, yeah? I cannot save a vehicle or a tent on one server and expect it to be there if I go to another. Correct?

Game Server Hosting by SurvivalServers.com *** INSTANT SETUP | CUSTOM CP | FTP | CUSTOM MODS | ANTI-HACK **
R.J. replied to SurvivalServers (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hey, do you have a list of community servers that share the same hive? In the TC Admin and Dayz Tools, both give you the option to change time zone. Which one overrides the other? With out of bounds vehicles, if let's say, someone flies a helo out to the small island east of Skalitsky or teleports a bunch of vehicles underwater. Is this considered out of bounds or should a total vehicle removal be performed and run all tasks again? There is some confusion with regards to vehicle spawn. For example, if the spawn quanitity is set to 50 and the max number of vehicles is set to 500, does this mean every run task performed will keep spawning 50 vehicles at a time until the 500 limit is met? The run frequency is set to 17:00 hours. When all tasks are ran, will the server auto restart? In TC admin, Arma build 97361 was installed, but the server still shows an older version. Is this still being sorted out? Just a mini FAQ I'm really happy with the server and tools so far! -
Are tents and vehicles still broke or somthing because when i place items in a tent or vehicle after a server restart they are wharped back to their origional position! Anyone else have this?

I wish vehicles were saved to character instead of server
SquishyBear replied to sostronk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's fine the way it is. It's somewhat realistic that way. Anyone with the knowledge can walk up to a vehicle, get it started and drive it away, key or not. It's like saying locking my car will prevent people from breaking into it, hahahahahaha. In a real apocalypse people will kill each other over vehicles and take them whenever and wherever they can find them. This is an apocalypse survival game, you gain some and lose some, that's life. It seems a lot of people don't understand the purpose of the game. Your goal is not to get the best equipment and vehicles and keep them for the rest of your life, it's about surviving as long as possible. As I've said before that includes losing, abandoning, giving up on something to save your life. We've had several vehicles on our home server for weeks now, UAZ and pick-up among them, only once has someone found one. It was pure coincidence that we noticed it too. We were driving in another vehicle at that point and noticed the UAZ that should have been parked up north. We got it back though, lost a pick-up in the process, found a dirt bike afterwards. Sick and tired of those who want it easy and not have anyone touch their precious whatever it is. PS: Could you imagine the crying by people like the OP if let's say 10-15 different people ended up on one server with their choppahs cos, you know, you wanna take the stuff across servers. Oh the horrors. -
I wish vehicles were saved to character instead of server
puppetworx replied to sostronk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Removing scarcity and allowing complete safety of possessions is not DayZ. Unfortunately I think tying the vehicle to the player and introducing car keys would decrease risk of loss so much that it would have severe consequences on the experiential quality of the game. I hate losing vehicles and other loot, but it's part of what makes the game so intense. Besides anyone who plays on a server without many scripting attacks knows that holding a vehicle is a lot easier once that variable is removed. -
I added the A10, MH6J_EP1, & UH60M_MEV_EP1. My map tool shows they have spawned and are on the map but when I got to the grid ref they are supposed to be there is nothing there. I added these vehicles to the spawns table & the objects. Are these vehicles banned from dayz? Is there a way I can unban them if so?

Honestly the rant u turn on sidechat is stupid really... It will get u blacklisted your server, and when that happens your server wont start up without a hive. So whats the point ? Sounds like u got access to a dedicated server, since u can edit the mission files... So just go the private hive route, u will have access to the db & files and ability to change alot more... i.e do periodic database backups & do rollbacks after a bad hacker attack etc.. U can also play around with mission files / side chat=on / default player skins / starting gear / different vehicles / different maps etc... There are also people toying with random chance of parachute spawning for new players, and messing with heli spawn loot tables etc... So just start reading up @ tunngle forums about the different private hives.... and research which one u want.

Try to find a "new" server. I know this is hard. We started a new server for the clan. Put vehicle spawns to maximum (30 I believe) Its refreshing finding vehicles and repairing them rather than combing the West and North forest for them. Still havn't found that darn Hele. I'll PM you the sever - dont really want to post the name on the forum.

Chance to go unconscious when hit needs to be removed from this mod!
dutch_miller replied to SpeedyBanana's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It's an interesting balance between realism and playability. I for one am for getting a random knocked unconscious when you are below 9 or 10k blood and the chance getting higher as your blood drops, as I think it makes sense. Wouldn't take much more than a smack to the head to get you on the ground. However, if we go the realism route, we need to eliminate unlimited sprinting and implement a more advanced health system (take a look at the medical system of the Arma 2 ACE mod for example, it's a step in the right direction). But, we already have to run for 90% of our playing time because vehicles are so rare and the map is so big, but if we implement more vehicles.....essentially balance in DayZ would be a big convoluted piece of shit we would never figure out. That's why it isn't intended to be balanced. -
I am trying to find a spawned vehicle though, i don't want to go trudging off the the other side of the map. Is there a most effective way to check the spawn locations for vehicles, across several servers?
-
Most of the vehicles have owners, Look on places that you would hide a vehicle, or camp a road and shoot the driver :)
-
So, i've been wandering around chernarus with a buddy the last 2 days looking our first vehicles. We haven't even found a bike. We made our way around the south and later the east coast checking every spawn on the way. When we made it to the hill south of Krasnotav where two atv's apparently spawn and found it empty, we gave up for the night. So I, being the DayZ addict that I am, woke up bright and early this morning to continue the hunt. I have been sitting on the same hill scouring it for atvs and then switching to a new server after about 5 minutes. I even have been googling new servers and looking in some that are less than a week old, but i have had no luck. Am I going about this the wrong way?
-
Scratch that. Side chat is going on 100%, black list us, couldn't care less anymore. Time to piss around with the mission files. Just got in today, spawn in the debug area with my gillie suit and no gear whatsoever, no backpack, no nothing. New character. Checked our bases. Everything has gone. Check the log files, our main vehicles we use to stash shit appears to have jumped about the map very very quickly with a bunch of other cars. Utter. Fucking. Bullshit. 2 months of hard work fighting hackers, stashing gear, duplicating nothing, getting shouted at in the lobby by players who think we hack, paying to get ass-raped on my own fucking server. I was so SO naive not to ban/kick anyone I please at any moment, just like the rest of the goofs out there. Should've locked the server half the time, shut it down when we're not on. See you in the standalone if this shit isn't cut out on release day. This been one of the most entertaining games I've played, up there with titles that have had serious money behind them. Undoubtedly the best mod for anything I'll likely ever play. We're out.

Why do people hate free rides?
sostronk replied to RaysGoodLiquor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I see vehicles as a major threat to me in the game. They provide high mobility, particularly choppers. They allow you to acquire high end gear at a faster rate. They can get you around the map and into combat quicker. OFC I am going to try to destroy anything that gives other players an advantage over me.
