  1. Hi all, I've created this post to suggest some idea that could increase the already good realism of this excellent mod and its forthcoming standalone version. Some of these have already been written in this forum, so I putted here just to be complete. 1) Introduction of slumber: - Time of sleep should be from 1 to a maximum of 8 minutes (I know it doesn't simulate a real time sleep, but it is an online mod, so think about the consequences), depending on how it takes to recover the "slumber" bar completely. - Obviously a smart player would rest in a safe zone in order to avoid ugly surprises with zombies or bandits. - While sleeping the screen fades to black but you can still hear sounds around you, so that players can awake at any moment if they perceive something wrong (this would add suspence) - Introduction of sleeping bag - Introduction of cofee (that replenishes a small quantity of slumber, due to caffeine contained within, as well as coke) - Consequences of not taking care of sleep: high sway while aiming with weapons, all movements slower than normal (including sprint), probability to faint or falling to the ground, blur and strange shadows at the corners of your vision (the last one was suggested by Daerk) - Slumber should be implemented in a way that player shouldn't be forced to sleep every 20 minutes (you can if you want), but at least once a day. You can even stay 2 or 3 days without sleeping, but then you have to face its consequences - The "Slumber idea" could bring to the game more realism, thrill, strategy, preoccupation, awarness of the enviroment: in other words more DEPTH. - (UPDATE) Introduce a reward mechanic such as regenerating health (1 to 10 points per minute) and stamina (this idea was suggested by Moofactory) - (UPDATE) Sleep on the ground if you have to, but risk sickness from cold and rain and not regaining as much slumber than sleeping in a bed (this idea was suggested by OW22) 2) Zombies adjustments: - The fast respawn of unfinished hordes of zombies in the same area should be eliminated - Slower (a bit) the zombie sprint - At this point, to balance the whole thing, zombies should be harder to kill... - ...and should make more damage - There should be more zombies at night - This way, the challenge won't decrease and keeps going on high levels and, at the same time the credibility, the sense of fear and desperation increase a lot. These should force players to avoid zombies instead of confronting them: survivors have to think twice when there are zombies nearby 3) Introducing Specialties: - Don't get me wrong, I don't want a perk system like COD or Fallout - Only 2 Specialties: Medic, who can heal a little bit more health point than normal and Mechanic, who can repair vehicles and weapons (if one day there will be a weapon consumption feature) - Specialties should be earned through practice, so that a player experienced in healing squadmates finally should be able to become a Medic and to heal more health points for example (same thing then for mechanics that could repair a vehicle faster or to make weapons more durable) - In other words, the main aim of Specialties is to difference players slightly, without compromise the balance of gameplay - (UPDATE) A medic could do a successful blood transfusion without risk of infection, a marathon runner or athlete would be better at running and vaulting, also depending of the weight he's carrying (this idea was suggested by OW22) - (UPDATE) What about introducing some sort of questionnaire (gender at the beginning, previous occupation, obby, etc.). Depending on which character will be created through this questionnaire, players could have different loadout and spawn location. For example a mechanic may have a jerrycan, engine parts and a crowbar and spawn in house near a factory. A tourist may spawn in a house in a small coastal town or on the beach with a flashlight, beans, pepsi and a coyote backpack. A farmer may spawn in a barn with a hatchet, cooked meat and a couple of 2rnd slugs. Then you could have also have medic, policeman etc. Varying starting skins reflecting this could also be used and no further gameplay alterations are made (this idea was suggested by NobleBrutus) 4) Crafting: - The number of items a player could create should be slightly increased. Nothing more (this is DayZ after all, not Minecraft). - A little more fortifications (?) 5) Radio: - Nothing new to say about this, the forum is already full of posts about radio. Just I hope the developers DO NOT add any new media such as TV, Internet connection (depending on where/when the standalone would take place) - What about implementing Morse code? 6) Map: - Possibility to view the map together with your mates (one man or the whole team) if they are close enough, in order to set attack plans, routes, rendez-vouz, ecc - In this case should be introduced some kind of indicator while viewing the map together, such as a hand with a finger or similar, in order to make your mates understand what to do and where to go - (UPDATE) Label function with possibility to make notes and mark points on the map. Possibility to draw arrows from one point to another (this idea was suggested by Moofactory) 7) Misc: - Close combat should be improved (possibly not overpowered) - No unlimited sprint (also, only athletic players can run more than normal) - No currency (money), just bartering - More realistic visual and sound effect for thunderbolts in situation of heavy rain - Addition of actions like playing guitar around a fireplace or play cards with your mates during dead moments (I know this sounds weird or stupid, not all of you will be agree so let me know what do you think) - Improved phisics (further versions should fix this) - More player characters (same as above) - Remove flying vehicles: in a post-apocalyptic world, a player would logically escape from the island as soon as possible. This doesn't have sense if someone wants to play this game - Possibility to block windows and doors using wooden beams or other objects like a wardrobe, couch or armchair - Possibility to hide objects by putting them into a box and dig it underground - Introduce weapon consumption or some other alternative: for example, the player have to clean his weapon once in a while to keep it efficient, especially after he shooted a lot. (thanks ChazSchmidt) - Introduce seasons - (UPDATE) What about lockpicking? (this idea was suggested by OW22) - (UPDATE) Stamina is weakened by lack of sleep, water, food, or appropriate clothing (temperature/environmental conditions causing reduced physical capabilities). Being wounded would also temporarily reduce the maximum level of stamina for a period of time, even if you were just shot and then fixed up by Doc Wasteland's crew, you're not immediately "back to 100%". Instead, you must "take it easy" for a few days. You tire easier, and cannot run as fast, etc. Very slowly, your stamina maximum level regenerates to normal (this idea was suggested by Daerk) That's all for now. Let me know what you think about. I will keep editing this page. PS: I apologise for my English.
  2. I miss that guitar player too.. maybe the standalone could have such a feature..
  3. Went to the server tonight... it was pretty full! Bandit in Elektro made me flee north into the woods. It was too dark to go venturing anywhere, so decided to kill a boar, gut it, and then relax by the fireplace... really missed the guy with the guitar from the STALKER series =(

    Make Dayz Scary Again.

Nah... STALKER bandits had much more personality and charm. At least they could play the guitar sometimes ;p
  5. there are links to all songs used, in the video description on the youtube page. that song is a fan electric guitar cover of gangnam style.

So, I use hacks, this is WHY

BTW your not a hacker. You downloaded a script a hacker made. Just because I own a guitar I'm not Eddie Van Halen. Get your facts straight dip shit.
  7. You can't really say 'best' or 'worst' and compare it to other games, most of which have been developed by massive teams in professional studios. Hell, this isn't even a game, it's a modification of an existing one, and it's not finished yet - nowhere near. This is an alpha, it's a chance for the dev to work out what features to carry forward and issues to iron out when it comes to the standalone. If Rocket spends too much time trying to perfect an alpha version of a mod (with the all base game's imperfections and limitations) the standalone will never get started let alone finished. It's like trying to write a song, but you don't have any instruments. You can write the lyrics and hum the guitar part and then you can try it out on your friends to get feedback, so that when your guitar gets delivered you can take on their ideas and perfect it because you now have the appropriate tools to do so. You can got hung up on perfecting the 'hummed' version of the song, and make it as good as it possibly can be, but it will still sound pretty poor and amateurish and nobody will invest in it or you in the long term. So, the way I see it, I couldn't care less if I suffer from any actions which result from the use of the Arma II engine. I don't care if I spawn in the middle of a wall and break my legs. I don't care if I get turned into a sheep occasionally by a hacker, I don't care if I get graphical glitches. The Arma II engine will not be used for the final game, so any attempts at fixing these issues are an utter waste of time. Some people are impatient and will rage quit becuase they get hacked too many times and will lose their 'lootz', but that's of no importance to me and no importance to Rocket. I don't think Rocket cares how many people stope playtesting (and that's all we're doing) the mod as long as enough people play long enough to provide constructive feedback, and enough people enjoy it enough to buy the finished game. And that's what's happening. Sadly for some, but encouragingly in the long term, Rocket has no obligation towards making the mod fully playable. - he has made it very clear that it is a proof of concept.

    Fort Australia.

Recently I read the Fort Friendly, post. A social experiment, for survivors of creating a fort in Electro or Chern. The social event was a rather successful. I was thinking, why not? Later tonight (Australian Time) I will be joining and travelling to Chern, I was hoping maybe us Aussies could come together and built a fort kinda like the English Counterpart. Australians are known for our strength when faced wit a opposition. I believe that we could do this, what is the point of kill each other? We are Aussie! We have to stick together and help each other. Lets get some pride guys, get our shit together. I want to make a fort and hold it off from zombies and bandits alike. After we set up defences (Wire and sandbags) I'm sure we can make somthing awesome. Trading, medics, training and just general bonding with fellow survivors. I have a mate who plays guitar fluently, i'm sure I could get him on to play through his mic for something to entertain use. Lets stick together guys, and make this a success, don't let our noble nation end up like this shitty killing field that is American servers. If anyone wants to come along, you are more than welcome. Soon I will be getting out of school and deciding my place for this experiment. My IGN is the same as on the forums, as my steam (MOTOCROSS=DOGGER) Add me if you want and hit me up if you're coming. Cheers - Moto

    Introduce yourselves

Hi there, my name is Martin I'm from Slovakia and I like realistic games and playing guitar :)
  11. If you've ever spent 2 hours trying to open a guitar case and then angrily ranted to the company about giving you a broken lock, and then realized that it wasn't locked at all and and you only needed to push the handles SIDEWAYS to open it, then you might understand my current emotion. You see, I've been having this ridiculous BattlEye problem for quite a while, and have FINALLY solved it. And to make it hilariously facepalmish, it was because I was impatient. As it turns out, my BattlEye would update, just slowly. So when I decided not to click "OK" in the lobby (where it shows the survivors) and instead wait, facing my inevitable doom, I was surprised to eventually see "BattlEye client initialized 1.168: Up-to-Date." WTF? Haha. Never once had anyone seemed to suggest that the problem might simply be that I was failing to download it before entering the game. Laugh out loud. SO ANYWAYS--- try just not clicking OK once you enter that lobby. With any luck, you'll find out that the whole damn problem was just that it didn't update fast enough for you to go zombie hunting. Cheers, and good luck. =)

The number one thing I hate about DayZ...

they should take the guitar sample from STALKER and implement it into the game where you can increase your blood or something by chilling by a fire playing guitar hahahahaha

    Introduce slumber...and many other ideas

"1) Introduction of slumber:" For me my character sleeps when i log out, i get what you mean but i cant peice it together. Because you play the game in realtime and i dont know about you, but i can stay awake for a very long time, and i dont need to slumber to stay awake especially if im in a post apocalyptical world. it doesnt make sense to sleep a couple of minutes to recive some kind of energy when you are awake realtime. If this is to be realistic it wont fill any kind of function, because it will mean you have to stare at your black screen for 1 hour. "2) Zombies adjustments" I always play veteran and i dont know if they get harder to kill in veteran but due to the recent nerf on handguns zombies are harder to kill, sure if you are good geared and have m4a1 they arent as much as a threat but that seems to me logical that if you have a bigger gun the bigger hole it does in those infected people. And due to the recent update on infected i kinda like them the way they are atm. What i want is the forest filled with more dangerous wildlife or something. "3) Introducing Specialties" I dont really understand this system because it doesnt make sense. Please no specialities because this is just making games suck, as another person stated with specialites makes the game unrealistic. everyone should have the same possibilitys. Limiting the player characters to specialisations is would just reduce the immersion for me personally. "4) Crafting:" Here is something i really want, being able to make clothes maybe easy weapons and traps, but it shouldnt be limited in MMORPG way, that you need some kind of points. All you need to build something is the resources. "5) Radio:" Id like to see that they maybe add two or three radiostations that you can compose a message at and to listen to that message you need a walkitakie or something. This would be fun because it sets up for a lot of wierd senarios. maybe some friendlies wanna set up a camp and get the message out maybe some bandits set a trap and so on. "6) Map:" Not really much to say here, i like the being able to draw on the map and maybe those notes stays on the map so when you get killed and looted the player who looted you can see what you have written on the map, like if you have marked your camp or something. "7) Misc: - Close combat should be improved (possibly not overpowered)" This will be improved "- No unlimited sprint (what about a Specialization for stamina? The player with this specialization can run more)" No specialitys and yes keep the unlimited sprint. "- No currency, just bartering" No currency is needed i agree, because the items in the game already has it own value. "- visual and sound effect for thunderbolts in situation of heavy rain" Isnt there already? "- addition of actions like playing guitar around a fireplace or play cards with your mates during dead moments (I know this sounds weird or stupid, not all of you will be agree so let me know what do you think)" I´d love this like in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R game you would see a guy playing a song by the fireplace in the camp, just awesome. (but you gotta fint a guitarr ;)) But no card games atleast not for a very long time, i dont want developers to concentrate on minigames really :) "- improved phisics (further versions should fix this)" Indeed "- more player characters (same as above)" Yes "- Remove flying vehicles: in a post-apocalyptic world, a player would logically escape from the island as soon as possible. This doesn't have sense if someone wants to play this game" Sure thats true, but how far could you get on a tank? And helicopters is awesome, dont remove them. "- Possibility to block windows and doors using wiooden beams or other objects like a wardrobe, couch or armchair" this would be cool :) but maybe the result of this would end up in very much buildings being blocked by players who die inside? all those enterable buildings just wouldnt be enterable anymore. Maybe if the furniture had some durability it would be better. Sorry if this is a long post, but i really wanted to answer to everything, and i apologize for my english it isnt perfect. Edited my post so that my answer to his topic were in "bold" and his previously comments are in "italic"
  14. My group has actually done something similar... We build a nice fire and sit around it, and one of us direct chat-s playing his guitar. Weird thing was that like 6 random survivors came out of the dark and sat down next to us. After everything was said and done, the randoms payed him in beans and went their separate ways. One of the moments that reaffirm DayZ's absoulte uniqueness.

    VODKA!

If you drink enough of it then it makes you scream "FRIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNLYYYYY!!!" all over Cherno. Then you hook up with other drunken asses and you begin play guitar and sing and do crazy shit like shooting empty whiskey bottles with AKM. Vodka will solve this ruthless PvP that we have today in dayz.
  16. Re: Everyone Who is Talking About Sleep Deprivation and Effects: Ghosts... ghosts... well... there's a problem there.... You know it's not real. Sometimes you do during hallucinations, but mostly you don't. Take for instance playing Amnesia. As I'm walking through this jail, I'm hearing screams, shuffles, and all sorts of noises. I don't know what's down the next corner. I don't know if it's real, or if it's fake. I don't know if my sanity is playing tricks on me. Then, I see a monster. I don't know if it's real, or fake. I keep running, and running, and hide. I see his face through the small bars at the top of the door. I get out and keep running, and running. I turn around, and there he is, standing at the end of the hall. I hide behind some boxes and hope he doesn't see me. He may not even be there. And then he disappears. Fool the player, and make it real. Also, you over-eat when you're tired, and become dehydrated. You would only start falling asleep randomly if you went without 2 or 3 days sleep, but if you stayed still you might after just one night. 1. Slumber- Sleeping for 1-8 minutes makes slumber a joke, and a burden. It just wouldn't be worth it. Why not have players sleep while AFK? This basically makes it so you can't be playing all the time. Think about it: you're constantly on the move, and you would get tired. The game can handle remembering how long it has been between sessions, and edit the bar accordingly. Not only that, but when fatigued, hunger and thirst should decay faster, making sleeping a somewhat priority. Using sleeping bags to sleep is like using forest trees to chop wood (instead of all trees). Sleep on the ground if you have to, but risk sickness from cold and rain and not regaining as much slumber than sleeping in a bed. 2. Zombies- Honestly, zombies being fast is what makes them such a hazard. Making them harder to kill than now might work, as people will use more bullets on them if they're not careful, and just attract more. 3. Classes/Skills/Abilities- Nonononono. The way you are saying is not that great, and I'm sorry, but it isn't. Basically, how you make this is say like this: Fred and I have the same backpack. Fred is a mechanic class. I am a scavenger class. Because I am the scavenger class, I can magically cram more crap inside the same exact backpack as Fred, who has now been penalized in this factor for not being this class. Likewise, Fred can pull extra fuel out his rear to fill his jerry cans once a day. That's the problem. When the realism comes into play, people don't want the CoD "No falling damage perk, just because". You need to make skills or abilities to make sense. For instance, a marathon runner or athlete would be better at running and vaulting, no? A policeman would have knowledge of small fire arms and a better than normal aim. A medic could do a successful blood transfusion without risk of infection. See what I'm saying? I for one don't like that you can repair a helicopter, pilot it, fix a car, fire a gun "like a BAUWS" and run around all day, but having skills that don't make sense just ruins it for me. You need to have something that people can take advantage of, and will be happy with their choice. 4. Crafting- Using resources around you to create makeshift and not-so-great items that can be potentially dangerous to use. I sincerely like this idea, and have been waiting for it. Oh, the day when I can take apart a washing machine to make something useful out of it. Give it to me. 5. Radio- Yeah, because voice chat just doesn't work right now. It really doesn't. Having radio is good, but I think that cable or internet might be fun. Now, depending where standalone is placed, and if there are TV and internet service providers, having internet and television would be a fun quirk. Now, pretty much all the internet sites would be down, so I guess for texting purposes if one doesn't have a radio and a microphone, and television, well.... rocket wants us to have houses where we can generate our own power. What says home better than a TV? 6. Maps- You want to give us sharpie pens to write on maps? That'd be great but a one time deal and should paint the map forever. I like the idea of using your finger. 7. -ok -read about what I said in regards to your "specializations". don't have them run more. have them run faster. -rocket wants the players to make DayZ their game. He encourages them to make their own trades, groups, camps, and everything. I can't be sure but it sounds like you want some sort of trading screen. That just ruins it. There are already forum merchants. Try to find some and ask them about it. -I saw some lightning in DayZ while driving just last night. I don't remember if it had a sound effect, but the bolt was magnificent. -Gambling.... why not? There are lots of moments where my team and I just want to take a break. But due to having more fun we're kind of forced to... move on. Screw all the people who are like: "Meh, It's a zombie apocalypse, you don't have time to think about cardgames." You'll be thinking a lot. And sitting. And thinking. And then you'll realize, this is f****** pointless, and shoot yourself. If only someone near you could play the guitar..... -I want trees to fall when I chop them down. And I want to be able to chop ALL the trees. -More player characters? Like able to show a bigger name? Or you mean like NPCs? You know, some poor soul citizens living in the towns that still aren't infected yet. Or not so poor souls.... I mean bandits. Bandits. I knew you wouldn't get it, even with the sly smile, so there it is. Bandits. Computer bandits. Make them stupid though, because then it would be too unfair. Or just use really good code. IDK. DayZ is a farm for innovation. Go for it. -Logically, no where is better than anywhere else. If only Chernarus is infected, there's probably a no-fly-zone around the whole continental borders near the island. -I close doors all the time, yet zombies go right through them. I feel unjustified. I want those zombies to feel the cold sting of the door handle as they open it, and hear the long creak of the old battered wood. I want them to take the time, and live that door. Or just break it off. Anyway, what happens when you want to get out? Then you have to move it back, and that gets complicated. If you can make it work, awesome. Other than that, combination locks on fences? Lockpicking?

    I WANNA DIE

Same thing happened to me, I was sneaking up on a town, then suddenly, me and all the local zombies flew up in the air about 1000 M, we all fell back breaking legs in the middle of a plain, [off map] inn it took forever to die. I put a small handle on the W key to start crawling then went and practiced my guitar for an hour before dying, what the F***. Also came across a blue chemlight floating in mid air in the ROG castle room near the entrance while playing at night. The ghost of Rocket perchance?

    Live Stream being hacked

whatever... no use playing guitar to a cow... i'd be happier if they fixed battleye. 90% of my deaths are caused by hacks. 5% by bugs. and 4% by actual players. and 1% by zombies.
  21. I suggested this like four days ago :) funnily enough at devils castle! try and get the axe murdered guitar hero to play live!

What do you do while waiting?

Loading screens only last 5 minutes for me roughly. I just play my guitar :) Edit: JK, I go to the forums to complain about every feature to pass the time. I think I've made a breakthrough .

    I am writing music..

In order to add relevency to this thread, I would like to suggest a band by the name of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. They are responsible for a lot of the soundtrack of 28 days later. I describe them as ambient and melodic post rock that adds to the creeps of the game. A few of their songs extend as long as 10-15 minutes. Their music has long build ups punctuated with epic strings and guitar. Its been my only soundtrack to DayZ since I started playing. Take out the game music, and the game's sound effects blend seamlessly with the eery apocalypse-isnpired music. Check them out on your favorite streaming site. Thats my attempt to share and make this thread productive. See you all on the wasteland.
  25. this is genius. events like this will be the way forward for DayZ. Can anyone find the axe murdered guitar hero for a concert at the castle. you could create a big TS server and everyone could listen in.... Axe murdered guitar hero vid
