All of this is due to being built upon Arma 2. Re-writing the movement in a mod wouldn't be easy. Expect it to get better in standalone (it won't be at first, but it will be.).
-
They've already announced they will.
-
No. Do you know how much griefing would happen? People would get on the game for the sole purpose of finding and looting sleeping characters. Plus it would be immersion breaking. I see a person, but he's suddenly invincible because he's not conscious?
-
Marking a "home" on a GPS would also be something to add. I love the idea
-
Its sounds like an interesting idea to me and I'd love to see it implemented. I especially like the randomized loot idea. Oh yeah, love the title.

Probably logged on to a private hive. Find a server and stick with it.

Sounds good to me.

There a DayZ store somewhere around here... google it.

DayZ Standalone: How the feature of finding written notes from those who died in the outbreak could function
colekern replied to logan23's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Player notes would be better. I'm kinda against the game artificially doing things (such as random heli crashes), so I've gotta say no. -
Technically Server->Client Architecture [Cheats/Hacks]
colekern replied to oxigan's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Crap. I wish there were another way to do this. If we move to traditional MMO architecture, I'm afraid I'll lag to death. Then again, I get better ping in DayZ than in any other game (150-200), so we'll see. I can only hope that AT&T will tap into the fiber cables just laid down. -
Also, I'm fully kitted out (m4, FAL, NV goggles, GPS, blood bags... you name it) and have survived over a month according to the ingame timer. I still wanna play together sometime, so yeah, tell me if that's alright.

I had something like that happen once. I was at the airfield and encountered a bandit. He didn't shoot, but suddenly a new spawn came running down the road and I tried to save him the horde he'd attracted. Suddenly I saw something fly past my face from the direction of the bandit. I lit him. I realize now that he was only covering me. But I killed him. I felt soooooo guilty for a long time, but the guilt went away. I've actually never killed anyone else beside him, and I don't plan on doing that unless they shoot at first. Its nice to see someone who takes the game as seriously as I do. I'd love to play together sometime.

A lot of this will be added in the standalone, obviously. But there's one thing that might be left out, and it could be really useful: setting your home. Pretty much every modern GPS let's you do this, and it would just make sense to add it in standalone. It could also add an interesting gameplay mechanic. For example, if someone kills the guy who has the GPS, the home location would still be saved on the GPS and it would lead he guy right to the dead guys home base.

Here's one I made using a free-float camera script (in arma 2 editor, 'cause I'm no cheater) to take. The only thing I added was a tiny bit of extra glare, and making the guy look like he's not floating. Enjoy. It's 16:10

You ever tried playing basketball after drinking an energy drink? It's terrible... all I wanted to do was sit down.

No, no, no. Private hives. Go here : http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/92982-private-hive-server-listing/ to find them. Find a good one near you, go into DayZ Commander, click favorites, enter the Ip, and join. -
No. We don't punish playstyles.

Here's something I whipped with two images from google and about 30 minutes in photoshop: It's 16:10.

If someone else starts my combat timer, I should be able to kill them without gaining bandit status
colekern replied to AIRCAV's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I completely agree. I can't defend myself because I'll be a bandit. -
DayZ STANDALONE base respawn idea (KEEP THE DISORIENTATION)
colekern replied to finkone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I disagree with adding any NPC other than dogs or zombies. Also, it would be incredibly annoying to have someone spawn in their base and grab some more weapons then get back into the fight. -
Don't do what Minecraft did...
colekern replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Apparently I didn't see where you were coming from. Don't worry, there won't be an endgame to DayZ. When they say that they're following minecraft style development, they mean that is their business model. Nothing else. Cheaper price in alpha, normal price in beta and finished versions. -

He's talking about standalone.... -
Which is why it should be optional. A smart player will protect his backup plan. A not-so-smart player will give one lucky bandit the mother load.

I see where you're coming from, but you're forgetting something: this is alpha. Alpha is the time to test new features. We never know exactly what will work, what won't, and what will make the game better. That's why we need to experiment. If we don't, DayZ can never get better.
