  1. Howdy, I'm reviving a thread from the General Discussion (http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/42919-law-to-lawless-lands/) since that's not for recruitment in hopes to find more people to join the Regulators, a movement dedicated to protective-style gaming. Please take a moment to read this (it's a bit long, sorry) and see what you think: Who Are The Regulators? The Regulators are not a clan in the actual sense of the word as much as a network of players who are fed up with random player killing and are working to bring law to these lawless lands. Our movement is just little over a week old and our numbers are growing, not because we have loot and servers, but because our message seems to resonate in the community. We have no command hierarchies or military ranks: all Regulators are equal. Our group is made of lone wolves and small bands whose duty is to patrol servers in their region, helping out people to the best of our abilities and fighting player killers and bandits whenever possible. We believe in the ideal of passing good deed along: I personally believe that when you've been killed senselessly 20 times, even one no-strings-attached act of good from a player is enough to make you restore your faith in the better aspects of this game. We know that once looting gets boring, PvP becomes the only fun passtime. But what happens when that gets boring? Some people leave and some, like us, turn to figuring out new objectives for our game by setting boundaries and principles that we abide to. We don't have many rules, the only requirement for new Regulators is to follow our Code: 1) Do not kill for loot or for pleasure 2) Help out people who are willing to accept it and protect anybody you see. 3) Be ready to die for others and to forgive your killers. People are scared and the journey to building up trust is hard and long. Who Are We Looking For? The ideal Regulator is a player who knows how to survive in the game and is honestly looking to challenge him- or herself by fully exploring the possibilities of the emergent gameplay of DayZ. We don't ask much from you, only that you follow the Code and do your part in making this game a little bit safer for everybody. We have all kinds of members: scouts, snipers, medics, teams and loners. Although our numbers are still small, we already operate in the US, EU and Asia. We won't force you to play on set servers or at set times, in fact we encourage to do completely the opposite: play like you want to play, only follow the Code. I've seen lots of people on this forum looking for groups and complaining about the rampant PvP nature of the game - your interest and passion for this game is exactly what will make you and excellent Regulator, so please contact me or visit our forum (link below) How Do We Operate? We're building our organization still, but this much is already done: Regulators are loosely organized into Cells of 1-5 people who operate regionally (so there are US, EU etc cells). The cells are encouraged to play together and share information, but there are also plenty of lone wolf Regulators running in the night, watching the bandits and helping from afar. The cells have leaders, but the leader is chosen from within the cell and each member should have a chance of taking the team to the field. We believe that an organic and fluid system is the best way for us to cover the most ground and to minimize the amount of bureaucracy that it takes to run a normal clan. The cells stay as independent as they want and are free to pick their own way of Regulating their patrol zones. Our operations are coordinated by Regional Admins, who make sure that when more manpower is needed, more cells can be dispatched to a hot zone as backup. Bandit clans are well-armed and ridiculously well-trained, so when in doubt, we call for backup. Being a Regional Admin is not so much a promotion as it is an indication that your fellow Regulators respect you and know you will get shit done. Even as Admins, these people are still Regulators and should take it to the field as often as they can. Our missions are not limited to one type: some of us gather intel on the enemy and patrol to locate their camps while others run supplies to cells/survivors, counter-snipe griefers, set up medical tents, protect survivors from the Infected and so on - It's pretty much whatever you feel you are the best in. Interested? We are not set out to say that one style of gaming is "better" than the other: This game needs bandits and murderers as much as it needs traders and Regulators. We are the community and it's within our power to shape it into anything we want to if our minds are set to it. This is one way, so if any of this seems like something you'd like to be a part of, PM me for more details or come visit our forums at: http://regulators.freeforums.org/index.php Thanks for reading and welcome to the Movement! -Oldtribe

The Regulators are looking for good people

There's no accept/deny process - everybody is free to join. The real test of whether or not you're a Regulator comes from playing as one. It's not always easy to follow a "don't shoot on sight"-policy and not everybody makes the cut. -O

I love how easy it is to bait you :)
  5. OP: don''t lose heart - this game is very unforgiving and filled with people who like to stretch their penis by killing newbies just for the hell of it. These people are douchebags and unfortunately cannot be cured, so my suggestion to you is to stay away from the big cities until you are truly ready to face them. My sincere hope is that some of these guys will eventually grow tired of the PvP and leave or start doing something more creative (usually it's hacking, though), but let's see. There are a lot of friendly groups in the game too (we're still in the minority though) made from players who've found out that there's is more depth to this game than the endless Cherno deathmatch (which in itself is pretty exhilarating, don't get me wrong). All I can say to you is that if you're not the one to fire first, you have a better chance of finding friendly players in this game. It's not the easiest way to play this game, but it works for me and about 120 of my clan members. Stay safe, -O

    the douche to passive racio

Yeah better to assume that 99% of the people you meet will be initially hostile towards you. This doesn't mean that they are all murdering bastards though, just scared of getting killed. There are friendly groups (like us), but we can only cover so much ground at the moment. My suggestion to you is to keep your distance and not to be the one to fire first. If bullets start to fly, get the hell out of there and put as many trees/walls/zeds as you can between you and your would-be-murderer. If, however, the person is not firing at you, try talking with them - you'd be surprised how much fun this game is when you manage to actually do a good deed in a douche-heavy environment. Stay safe, -O

    Law to Lawless Lands

As a long time reader, first time poster, I've been amazed to see things like free traders and fort friendlies spring up as a response to the wild west banditry that's currently making DayZ as deadly as it is. Here's my two cents on the topic: I'm calling out for people who would like to join a very loose "clan" of lawmen called Regulators who patrol the servers and help out survivors against bandits. Our enemies are strong, well-armed killers, but they lack organization, numbers and fight among themselves as much as they grief innocent people. Our group would spot out troubled locations, alert more Regulators to the server and pacify the place with either killing the bandits or driving them away with superior numbers. All in all, basically fight a lot against organized resistance. There is no other commitments except the real need to protect the weak against the strong. To become a Regulator, you'd need to just adhere to these simple rules: 1) Let your presence be known and actively help out survivors in the servers by offering protection, healing and food 2) Never kill for personal gain or loot 3) Be ready to help out your Regulator brothers when called upon Why do this? I know many of you experienced players are getting bored of raiding and turn to banditry just to keep things interesting. What would be more interesting than going against the most ruthless, well-armed players in the game when called upon? We won't care if you used to be a bandit yourself (actually, that would be an asset) or that you used to kill people for sport. Put all that good skill to use and start bringing a countering force to the lawlessness of the game. How it would work then? I picture, as our numbers get stronger, many of the servers having at least one Regulator on duty at most times. He'd actively put his life at risk by scouting the known bandit locations and once discovering one, call upon more people to gang up and blast them out in good order and letting the entire server know that that location is now protected so people can come in and trade and loot as they see fit. There are already people doing this but they are single separated groups. Wearing the [Regulator] tag would in time signal to survivors that they have at least one ally on the server and make the bandits at least a little bit more careful in their business. We'd have a clan server where to store our extra loot safe from bandits and opportunists so it would be easy to get suited and booted if we are killed in the line of duty. So, that's about it - in a nutshell: why wander around in small groups figuring out what to do when you can get daily missions in which you're up against the worst of the worst? If any of this rings true to you, PM me or reply to this topic and we'll bring law into this land (hell, Rocket might even give us sweet cowboy hats if we become good enough in what we do!) -Oldtribe EDIT: Thanks to Regulator Brother Brad_B, the Regulator movement now has a forum for anybody interested in helping out: http://regulators.freeforums.org/index.php Go, sign up and start talking - I'll write up guides and ideas for you as fast as RL obligations allow me to :)

    Law to Lawless Lands

Just an update on what this topic had achieved so far: - The Regulators have gathered 120 registered members (and approximately a couple of dozen unregistered lone wolves). - Our forums at http://regulators.fr...s.org/index.php have almost 2000 posts so far. - We've spread to the US, the EU and Asia and are running internal supply networks and medical services for our members as well as survivors we come across. - In the process of our patrols, we've helped over a hundred players and killed about double that amount of bandits and murderers - We discovered and destroyed dozens of camps, including hacker tent cities with 20 of each weapon (+G36s etc hacked weapons) to remove these PvP guns stockpiles out of the game, potentially saving hundreds of lives more by extension. - Our enemies have tried to infiltrate us and set us up for ambushes, sometimes successfully, sometimes not - we learn from every encounter and share the knowledge. - We've collected information on hackers, clans and servers that are considered dangerous. - We've become targeted by hackers who are worried about our growing influence - We have created a custom Regulator face for our members, our own TS channel and a Steam group - And finally, and most importantly, we have not shot any innocent people in our month of existence. With a hundred players clocking in around 3-5 hours per day, that's about 10-15,000 hours of protective gameplay where no innocents or fresh respawns were shot by a large group of people believing in the ideal that one good deed deserves another. I am very proud of everybody in our movement and want to congratulate you: The path you have chosen is the harder one and you've walked it with your heads held high. You have my deepest respect, Regulators. -O

The Coalition - Changing the Culture of DayZ

This is a great idea and it has my wholehearted support - in fact the work the Wasteland Medics is what inspired the birth of the Regulators. I think our original concept was not to create so much a clan as a movement of people who are independent but ready to announce that they have committed themselves on protection instead of shoot-on-sight. As the group has grown, obviously we've started to get more communal and formed the cell structure (they could be considered as small "clans" under the Regulator umbrella) for team-oriented members to go out and play together and develop tactics. I guess my main concern is that the bigger the organization, the clumsier it becomes to operate. I'm also a bit concerned on information leaks and the "bad apples" that can easily bring the reputation of a good guy organization down by just joining up and playing like a bastard. :) I'd love to hear your thoughts (in PM if needed) on how you see a coalition like this coming together. This will help us discuss the idea within our group so we can vote with all the facts on the table. It might sound a bit sanctimonious to say this, but if all the members of the coalition have dedicated themselves to "I won't shoot on sight", you're already Regulators by heart and we welcome you as brothers whether or not our group decides to "officially" join up. :) In any case, great to see this and stay safe, -O

Amen, Tommes, amen. At the end of the day, we're all here to enjoy this game in the way that suits us the best. We like to RP a bit and follow a simple code that presupposes that one good deed deserves another. This code gets us killed sometimes, but it also has lead to some of the best experiences this game has yet had to offer us. -O

Some of the work our group does.....hunting player killers...

Well, these situations just kind of develop during normal patrolling so it is what it is. Going after single players is a bit pointless (even if you find the server, how do you find the guy?) so we're focusing on the current hotspots on the map and trying to protect as many people as we can. And accuracy improves with experience :D -O

Ok, let me chip in before this turns into a basic internet argument about who has the biggest dick and can piss the furthest. @Staatsfeind84: First of all, let me say that shouldn't we be able to just talk without all this childish crap? I apologize for my Regulators for getting a bit heated there and hope we can steer this talk back to a proper track since I have a question for you. I don't want to give you crap for being a player killer since at the end of the day, this is a game and whatever makes you happy about it is the correct way for you to play it. I don't know if you bothered to read my earlier post here, but if you did, what do you think is the ultimate goal in the game for you? How long do you think it'll be fun to play this as a PvP deathmatch game (that doesn't have any of the well-designed levels of a proper DM game)? From your posts I understand you're not shooting newbies as much as going after tougher targets, and for that, you'll have my beans since you're not a part of the asshole squad. But even then, do you think you'll be playing this game in a month or 3 months? What do you see yourself doing - just more of the same? You'll have all the loot, know every location and have a thousand murders on your character. Is that REALLY that much fun? Maybe they'll add new guns and some new rules to mix it up for you a bit, but seriously dude - that's all the imagination you're willing to put in this game? And before you even start, I'm not trolling you. Really not. Just asking if you have a point to play a game like this since I've felt it's bound to get boring eventually? Maybe you'll just move to the next game while the HC people will hang around to develop towns, trading, convoys and all kinds of cool shit imaginable. Maybe you'll join us? Maybe you'll stay the way you are and be the bogeyman for those communities? In any case, I'd like to know what you think it'll be. Stay safe, -O

What's the point? Anybody you kill, just respawns. And now they hate you. Congratulations. -O
  17. *Regulator* Oldtribe

Some of the work our group does.....hunting player killers...

Like the topic says, hunting pkillers is just one part of the mission statement we've given ourselves. We are also out to help people in need, gather information on various servers and clans, work with other friendly groups, run supplies within our internal trading network, do medic work and so on - the end goal is just make the game more interesting for members of our group and hopefully for other players as well. Anybody who does not agree with us or thinks of us as a threat is only doing so because we're threatening the concept of "fun" in this game for them (killing others indiscriminately). We do not want to claim your turf, dominate your servers, steal your loot or kill you. We do not take our orders from anyone and never will. We're always ready to help, even when that can lead to an ambush by people who do not want to face us in a fair fight. We're not concerned by losing our lives for our cause since all you lose is gear, which is easy to get back especially with the help of your Regulator brothers and sisters. What we are concerned about, though, is you being a prick and a bully and ruining other people's shit for no reason whatsoever. That's when we step in every chance we get. So, to anybody reading this: think about what you want this game to give you. How long can killing fresh spawns remain interesting before you start getting bored and turn into a hacker or quit playing? Weeks? Months? How many times can you 'light us up like fucking christmas tree' to still have it entertain you and keep you interested? This game is a playground for us all and it makes me genuinely sad to see that people can't think of the possibilities on offer beyond shooting on sight and keeping the game as it is (especially when people use the "it's a dog-eat-dog world, bro"-justification - a guy with a flashlight is not a "dog" that's going to eat you with your AS50 and your NVGs, so grow up, ok?). I love the paranoia this game creates, but when I see groups like the White List Medics or Freeside Traders, I see so much more than just deathmatching around the same three streetcorners for absolutely nothing but upping your murder counter. So, we know what we want. What do you want from this game? -Oldtribe PS: You can call me a butthurt carebear now, I won't mind :)
  18. *Regulator* Oldtribe

To not get shot. What will it take. Seriously

I can't vouch for everybody in this game or even in the Regulators, but DCing during firefights is like cheating in Solitaire - you're just ruining your own game experience (which death is a big part of for me at least). I don't know how CQF operates, but even if we would be allied with them, I don't believe they'd order us to DC during fights (I guess that's what you're implying here?). Hope looking at targets on our roster sheets gives you more emergent game play and enhances your DayZ experience. That's the reason we started the Regulators too :) -O

The Regulators are looking for good people

The movement is now 2 weeks old and we're growing in numbers and organizing but like Curt said, there are a lot of lone wolf operators in the Regulators too. We'd be honored to have you with us! Stay safe, -O

The Regulators are looking for good people

The Regulators follow the golden rule: Do not do to others what you do not wish done to yourself. We're careful when dealing with survivors, but the whole point of this movement is to create as much trust as we can. If you're willing to play with this in mind, you are very warmly welcome to join us. Stay safe, -O

    Stay away from these guys

Any Regulators shooting unarmed players and innocents are not going to be tolerated within the cause. If there's a reason to suspect anything like that, please report as many facts about the incident to me and I promise we will investigate it and take action to prevent it from happening again. Stay safe, -O

The Regulators are looking for good people

You hit the nail on the head - it's more of an ideology than a clan. We are organized into smaller cells that operate within their regions much like small clans and for bigger operations and emergencies, multiple cells can be combined to form a bigger task force. There is already a fully functional medical service within the Regulators as well as equipment sharing and resupplying (our guys are "walking tents" :D). Since most members are lone wolves, they come across a lot of useful gear and can deliver it to you if you need it. -O

People who run around helping strangers are naive...

Yeah it was already touched upon here: the endgame with "just surviving" or starting to duke it out with other players just seems too random and pointless. Setting up a helping organization generates emergent game play situations that cannot be matched with stalking people through the telescope (for me, at least). And, I think doing a good deed to somebody creates a bigger impact on that player than blowing them away. -O
