My Conversion From Bandit to Survivor

Hey, if you're interested in helping out, give this a read and PM me if it feels like something you'd like doing: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?%2Ftopic%2F42919-law-to-lawless-lands%2F -O

    Law to Lawless Lands

To keep impostors at bay, I envision the Regulators working in smaller cells (of friends who are already playing together) and recruiting help from people they have already played with - usually we'll be against 2-5 bandits anyway, so it shouldn't be too hard to get at least the same number summoned if this thing takes off like I hope it would. If any other vigilante groups are reading this, PM me your details - I'd love to hear your experiences and work with you! -O

    Law to Lawless Lands

Yeah, that's probably what can happen in many cases, but it'll still be fun :D I'm not looking to eradicated banditry, just to try to put more moving pieces into the game and offer options - I think some people who play bandits might be interested in joining a Regulator "posse" just for the simple reason that shooting hatchet-carrying noobs gets boring and you're looking for real fights (and awesome loot). There will be traitors and all kinds of backstabbing for sure, but won't that just make everything more interesting? The biggest problem I see with trying to set something like this up is the communications - I hope people try playing in this way and manage to recruit more Regulators slowly, after which we'll try to set up a few communication channels for alerts - I just need you guys to take the protecting as your creed and 'roleplay' with that "old west lawman" style. If it doesn't suit you, feel free to stop doing that - all I ask is that you wear the "badge" until that time to make people recognize the Regulators as (semi)trustworthy. Here's an example of what I did a few hours ago: I spotted a helo near Polana that had been looted and a bandit lurking in the woods. Instead of killing the bandit (and possibly his squadmates), I hid near the town and when I saw zombies getting spawned, warned the survivors by saying "the helo is a trap" without telling my location. Out of the three people I warned, two avoided the chopper and one went there and died. I felt like I saved two guys, if only until the next ambush and that was awesome :P -O

    Enforce Law and Order

Looking for a person at NW Airfield to save me

Yeah that's about the saddest attempt to bait people I've seen in a while...you should have also said that you'll give your NVGs and your DRM for helping out. :D If, on the other hand, you're really in trouble, here's a tip - don't go to NWAF without bandages :) -O

My take on the whole PK's need to be punished

Forming bandit groups against the world is the most obvious and natural thing to do in the game. I'm still hoping there are some gamers who want to play coop so much that they'll join forces to form vigilante/law enforcement groups who are out there just to make some locations sniper-free by force. Laws do not exists, so we have to make up our own and currently the bandits have the upper hand just because most 'friendlies' get amazingly insulted when they find out they are not at the top of the food chain. There are loads of bandit hunters, medics, traders etc out there so organize, people, organize - how can a 6-man bandit outfit stand against an assembled police force of 20 people? (and I want to be in that firefight when these guys decide who controls Cherno) :D -O

    Law to Lawless Lands

Young Guns definitely inspired the name, although you don't need to use just winchesters and revolvers :D Fellas, take the pledge and start doing good in the wastes! -O
  8. I think PvP is the whole point of the game - it's a rare game where I feel so paranoid and actually fear dying. The players who want to have more coop elements need to band together and take back ground from bandits, who have just chosen to get to the top of the food chain. When the game has no laws, the players need to get together and enforce their own laws through trial and error. I hunt bandits, I don't kill random people but I LOVE THE FACT that there are these organized, kitted-out bad motherfuckers on every server just waiting for me to make a mistake. That being said, it wouldn't seem too bad to bring back bandit skins or other ways to identify mass murderers in the game - I think that'd help survivors band together easier and make my job in picking targets much cleaner. The best way to counter bandits is lawmen/vigilantes and the game could support that without the game feeling suffering too much (now I just kill you if you're carrying a sniper or I see you grief somebody else). What I'd love to see in the game (this being survival horror and all), is psychological effects on committing murders - maybe the ghosts of the people you've killed could sometimes come back to haunt you or something creepy like that :D -O PS: and please implement a 30 second delay for aborting the game to curtail the DCing - that's just stupid and ruins the fun from firefights :D

    ARMA II OA STEAM PATCH?

Seems like some gun damages got nerfed (M1911 at least)...or did I just suddenly become a lousier shot?

    Fort Australia.

Me and a small group of people are trying to create a DayZ "police force" (http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?%2Ftopic%2F42919-law-to-lawless-lands%2F) and I'm so glad to see other good guys here, working to make the game and the community better for everybody (even the bandits). Hope that Fort Australia is a great success - if you guys are interested in working for law enforcement, PM me. -Oldtribe

A simple answer to the bandit issue once and for all.

http://dayzmod.com/f...-lawless-lands/ We're doing the same thing...just need it to be one, coherent force that the bandits will learn to respect. It's not about killing bandits, it's about creating safe zones for anybody who is willing to abide by non-violence while they are inside the zone.

    Fort Friendly - Social Experiment

I wholeheartedly support this type of action - the good guys should start getting organized as well as the bandits are. We have thousands of ace players who've fought PvP but do not kill for sport or loot but without an unifying ideal. Fort Friendly restores my faith in the players - we're not getting any help in defeating the bandits from the game (and nor should we), so let's get organized and start pledging to protect people even if it means we'll die trying. My outline for a cross-server law enforcement agency is here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?%2Ftopic%2F42919-law-to-lawless-lands%2F - I'm not looking to be a leader or get respect, just want to create an entity in the game that players will find as an reliable ally instead of a sure enemy (and yes, I know if this thing takes off, bandits will exploit our open conduct by impersonating as Regulators and leading us into ambushes, but I think that'll just make the game a LOT more interesting). In any case, I'd like you to spread the word and see if there is interest in this kind of game style - we need dedicated members to become a realistic force and I think hardcore bandits, free traders, wasteland medics and people with great ideas like Fort Friendly should be working for this DayZ "police force". -Oldtribe

    Controversial Topic: BANDITRY IS DEAD.

Punishing bandits and murderers with game mechanic changes is not what this game is about - it's a social experiment and currently the "society" the game has resembles a lawless anarchy. Thanks to the many points made above, killing other players is so prevalent because a) it's fun and challenging and B) it's easy since there are no repercussions to speak of. I'm advocating forming a cross-server law enforcement "clan" that I'm calling the Regulators (see here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?%2Ftopic%2F42919-law-to-lawless-lands%2F). I don't want to eradicate bandits - they are the toughest, most organized OpFor the game has. I just want people who don't condone it to band up and take the fight to them. If you want to become a Regulator, you don't have to change your playstyle: scavenge, scout and roam as you used to, but just keep in mind that you are out there to protect, not harm. Scout sniper alleys and alert backup to flush them out (even by DCing) and let everybody else on the server know that NWAF/Stary/Cherno is now bandit-free, even if for a limited time, and get ready to help out the wounded and any noobs that wander into town. Forming a vigilant force (modeled after the Texas Rangers) will make the survivors have hope that they have an ally and the bandits think more carefully about who's worth griefing. And what's in it for you as a Regulator? How about pitched battles against the hardest men in the game? Or feeling good about yourself for helping out others? I don't care if you're a stone-cold killer, a newbie or a day 60 lone survivor - you all have skills that can be used for good just as long as you set your mind to protecting instead of killing. Just add the [Regulator] tag to your name and lead by example and let's see if we can turn this thing around from the ground up. -Oldtribe

Being unarmed is the only thing stopping you people.

It's not easy being the good guy in the game (kinda like real life in that sense), but I see a lot of frustration against the pkilling building up all over the forum. It's true that you can't really trust people you meet in the game unless you know them, so I'm hoping there would be a kind of a 'police force' of friendly players who'd take a clear stand against griefing and help other survivors. There are already wasteland medics and trade companies, so how about a group of Regulators, who make their business to seek out snipers and bandits and drive them out? http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?%2Ftopic%2F42919-law-to-lawless-lands%2F ...and I know it's idealistic and full of holes, but I really want to see people evolve this game to a more complex moral reality than it currently has and I know I'm not alone. -Oldtribe

    Law to Lawless Lands

yeah, that'll just make all of this even more fun, won't it? :D Emergent gameplay kicks ass!

    Law to Lawless Lands

hunting down server-hopping murderers would be pointless. I see this as a way of making some locations available for friendlies when needed and giving survivors a feeling that they are not completely alone against the world (and give bandits a common enemy to hate, becoming a regulator is a high-risk job for sure :))

Yeah, I wouldn't want to make bandits go away...you guys are what makes the game interesting and I hope we could all improve the immersion and feeling of the game by getting some decent opposition to y'all :D
