Too many downsides playing night?
Evilsausage replied to Evilsausage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
^ This. Also' date=' nub with nvg's is still a nub. I dont mind if people are scared of the dark... But whats up with all these threads saying: " I DONT LIKE THE DARK* SO IT MUST BE CHANGED PLS, K THX " * Can be replaced with any feature. If you dont like it, play on daytime servers? Its not like you dont have an alternative option... Lets be honest, i think people like the 'idea' of nighttime... But dont actually want it to be like night. Cus its cool to creep around in the dark like shinobi but not being able to see... NOT COOL BRAU. [/quote'] I did not make this threat to complain abou the darkness. Even though i think a person should be able to see his own feet at night. No night is as dark as this. The point I was trying to make with this is that there are too many disadvantages at night compared to day. Flares gives away your position, your character freeze, more likely to be spot by zombies because of the darkness. Yes the night can make it harder for bandits to spot you, but at the same time you have a hard time spotting them. Basically a guy with a makarov can be a hugh threat at night. I love the night setting but theres just more things that encourage me to play on a daytime server. And most people i know feels the same way. I think there atleast could be something that encourage a player to play during the night. For example a stealth advantage vs zombies. Make it a tad easier to be spot by zombies during the day. To me that makes sense. -
I agree it just feels odd. In a Zombie apocalypse who the hell would travel into a zombie infested village for firewood? People would just gather stuff in the forrest. It would only be hard to get a fire going if the weather was bad.

The One, The Only: I HATE TEMP THREAD

I played during the day and had no major problem with the temperature. I was remaining at around 80-90 in temp but some of my friends where down to 60. But i guess its because they where wounded. Still think there should be more ways to warm yourself. It should also be easier to make a fire. Like Soda said, you should be able to light a fire with a flare. There should also be more ways to gather wood out in the nature. -

I have been out quite alot in the woods in really bad rainy/snowy Swedish weather. Aslong as you got decent cloths and remain mobile the cold won't be a hugh problem. Normally takes and hour or two in really bad weather or if you stop moving to really start freezing. Like people have said temperature should only be a factor if you been swiming or if the weather is really really bad. I also think its weird how a person is forced to gather chopped wood. Logically you should be able to gather wood in a forrest. Give the players a Hatchet or something. Sounds very unlikely that a survior living in a forrest should go to a village filled with zombies just to get wood. Then it would make more sense if matches got depleted, so players had to go in and search for new matches. -
Please consider this awesome Dayz chair bosses...

Everyone knows a sniper rifle in a zombie apocalypse would not be able to kill humans! Common knowledge:P It also makes 100% sense that money is valuable after a zombie apocalypse where there is no towns or cities remaining.... Souldbound gear yeah fits with the realistic survival thing aswell! My god....is the OP for real? Go back and play World of warcraft. -

Will temperature affect more if your sitting still? After all running should help you stay warm while standing still should make you freeze. It would also be a good way to make it less encouraging for people to just sit and camp. Btw it would be awsome if when the new skins had effects on your temperature. -
Too many downsides playing night?

So if you throw a flare the zombie will run towards it? thats nice, though my guess is that it will also work during the day. But sounds like a cool features. Yeah I do raise gamma at times. But at really dark nights even with highest brightness and Gamma things are hard to spot. It also looks ugly and isn't actually intended on how the game should be played. I don't mind it being dark, but it just seems to overall be better to play during the day. Awsome advice man never thought of that!!... Ofc everyone should get night vision. But the average player doesn't have that, not to mention people die and loose it. Im just saying there could be some more advantages at night, since atleast most i know tend to only play night if they really have no other option. -
It think the mod is great. Love exploaring and the tension when i hear shots fired close by. I also love the rewarding pvp, manged to kill a guy that had a m4 carbine with all kinds of modifications on it. And he had a shitload of other good stuff. But unlike other games, even with my new gear i still have to be extreamly careful. Since even a guy with a makarov can kill me if he sneaks up on me. I actually really care about my character now, something i don't do in other games. Love it since its so hardcore, so tired of all the games that are so forgiving. Like many have said. Its only Alpha so far. The think I hope for the most is more random encounters and drops in the wilderness. Also want a solution to people just leaving instantly if they are about to die.

Disconnecting while underfire bannable?
Evilsausage replied to Babaganoush's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
But how would that work if they can just press alt-f4. Besides that would still not solve the issue with people just disconnecting from zombies. If zombies are chasing you could just start the log off timer while running. Something needs to be done since its already such a common problem that won't go away. It will most likely get worse the more people start getting attached to their gear. Its really ruining the most important thing this game is trying to achieve. It removes alot of the struggle to survive. Making the character stay on server after logoff for like 15-20 sec seems like a good idea. Its not hard to find a good place to log off. -
Game Design Analysis: Why Cross-Server persistency must die
Evilsausage replied to Tartantyco's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Since servers crash constantly and sometimes are impossible to join. It would be very frustrating for the player to only have 1 server he can play on. And like many have said its nice to meet new people. The only problem i have with cross server thing is how easily a player can go to a place with good loot. log of join another server, loot that place, log of to another and keep doing that. -
Night is too dark. I dont mind if its dark further away. But it should atleast be possible to see your feet in front of you. I just wish i could find night vision.

I thought it was a nice introduction vid.

I have never been able to refill water in any of the small water ponds in the inland. Is it even possible?
-
Yeah also like the high zombie count.

I think the bleeding rate could be dropped after a while. But not just stop, its not like you have a tiny scratch. Be happy you don't have to stitch your open wounds together.

I experianced a dumb death yesterday. I was gonna meet up with my friend, I was running for like 20 mins. But then my friend say hes lost. Appearently he thought he was on a completly different area. Then 5 sec later he screams ohh "shit a bandit!!" and then fires...But I was the bandit. Luckily my friend can't aim for shit, but his enfield alerted the zombies nearby and killed him instantly. So now i had to wait 30 min for him to come to me. but atleast I got his loot. :) Other dumb deaths has so far been mainly ladders but also breaking my leg when trying to run past my friend in a tight building. Zombies killing me through walls is also kinda annoying.

Will familiarity kill this mod?
Evilsausage replied to Disgraced's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I dont know about that idea... I mean if you run for a hour or two to get a decent rifle and at the same time risk your life for it. It doesn't feel very rewarding if you have to find a shitload of stuff to repair it with. Besides good weapons tend to have very limited ammo anyway. I think however the coast could be tweaked a bit so there are a bit more random equipment there. For example there seems to be shitload of ammo for Winchester. Would be nice if it got reduced and more added ammo for colt, remmington, g17, crossbow etc... -
Right now you only encounter Zombies in urban areas. You never really feel scared when you walk in a forest at night. With Zombies roaming around not just in villages it would add alot more tension. Just a few here and there. Another interesting thing would be Zombie hoards. Like sometimes a horde of zombies spawn and slowly walk across the map to different locations. I got another idea, but I think this might be hard to implement. Its just a thought. Zombies that just recently died could have a small % of comming back to life.
-
Yeah it would be cool. Man even in alpha this mod is so great. Just think what can happen with this mod in a year or two. perhaps in Arma III. Definatly want zombies to cause troubles for people outside in the wilderness.
-
Don't like the idea. It takes away the fun for the bandits and it also makes no sense that a person would aim better just because hes "good".
-
First of i think something needs to be done about many of the small water holes. You can't fill the water bottle in them(or atleast most of them). Its kinda strange that the only drinkable water seems to be the Ocean.

The biggest issue in DayZ. That breaks the core aspect of Survialism.
Evilsausage posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
First of i just wanna say how awsome this mod is. Love it and i know its only alpha. So I can live with the bugs and the unstable servers. But there is one thing that really annoys me. Something that really destroys the illusion of this being hardcore survival. The fact that people can just at any time leave the game. For example me and a friend had a fight today vs a bandit. The bandit managed to kill me just as he was looting my corpse my friend corners him and wounds him. The bandit is basically toast... Then he just disconnects instantly in the middle of the battle. The same thing can be done if Zeds are about to kill you. Just disconnect. That basically means the people who expolite this, will be able to avoid death very easy. So i really hope there is a way of fixing this. For example making the character stay on the server for 30 sec before he disapears. That way you can't just log off if your in trouble, -
Patch 1.5.7 and this being an Alpha and fucking zombie spawns
Evilsausage replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I think the new amount of Zombies is good. Before there where too few. -
Yeah seems like it....
