Even if I don't agree with the guy that you should fully abandone DayZ. He does have a right to complain. 6 years of development with different promises they have failed to deliver. The forum is nearly dead and you want less posts to be made? Or just less negative ones? Censor people because its just completly wrong to complain on DayZ?

I just said that there must be a skeleton crew working on it. That doesnt mean i blame the crew, i'm just guessing there are very few at BiS actually working on DayZ. But I still stand by my statement that the development of DayZ has been a dissapointment. It really becomes hard to think of other games that has had worse development then this. Thats not a rant, thats pretty much a fact by now.

Yup thats the issue. They have already gotten our money, today odds are quite small they will make any noticable amount of cash from new players. DayZ was hot 2012, very few I know today actually play this game or even know about it. But its just such a shame...DayZ when it was new was no doubt a big thing. Really getting the whole survival game thing going. Had so many fun hours with the DayZ mod and a couple with SA. Really thought with all the money they got they could create something quite epic...Even though stuff has happend. 2018 and its still not done and in some way lacks alot of content even some mods had back in 2013. This game along with Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft after Wotlk is no doubt the most disappointing games. Don't confuse it with bad games. Just really really dissapointing. But once full game is released and with some creative modders...then who knows. Not willing to completly give up on DayZ yet.

I just don't get this, first the beta gets delayed and delayed even more. Then we get stress tests, which gets me me thinking, wow maybe will finally get the beta. 4+ months pass still nothing. Now they announce that it will be released before 2019...But god knows if they will manage to do that... There is a part of me that loves DayZ and some good stuff has happend, but overall this development has just been a series of long dissapointments. There really must be a tiny skeleton crew working on this game at this point, because this really is extraordinary in how slow everything is going forward.
-
Lets be honest here. DayZ is too late to really cash in on its success back in 2012. Most people that are fans of DayZ has already bought it, so they know its a very limitied amount of money they will earn. I'm guessing Bis has more important projects, it just feels like there is a small skeleton crew working on this. At this point they just wanna be done with the development and I guess so do we. I really want 1.0 aslong as its functioning and not just a slightly less messy game then before. Considering of all the developing problems, i'm really sceptic about them solving that issue.

They said they where really really close to becoming a beta last Christmas. I made a post during the stressperiod later in early June about how "this is just taking forever." Eventually I kinda forgott about DayZ, but every now and then I really feel like playing some DayZ, but i want the new patch. Is anything officially out yet? Will it be done before this christmas? The next? When is the full game done? Feels like this game is on some kinda life support system, DayZ mod was probably the biggest thing to happen back in 2012 and had a major impact for the multiplayer survival genre. Such a shame how it seemed to fail so badly. Don't get me wrong, I think SA has seen alot of neat improvements. But its been happening so damn slowly and have had alof questionable design decisions. There are parts i love so much about this game, but other parts that are just so damn dissapointing. Blah gah...ughh.

I see your point Emuthreat. Its Alphuur after all! But from a clever and tactical stand point to get People excited for the game. Minor things like insane thirst levels will ruin the experiance quite a bit. Its such a easy thing to notice and tweek. I Dont even understand how they missed it in the first place. I tried experiment 6.3 just when it got out and instantly I noticed how the new inventory UI was really Hard to read. Impossible to tell for example what ammo was what without hovering the mouse over it. Even as a 3D art student other students would have remarked on such a flaw very fast. Dunno how the Dayz devs manages to miss it. Other example of broken stuff that just remained for ages in DayZ: Food poisoning was at one point pretty much impossible to cure and increased thirst rate by like 20x. Suicide was pretty much the only option. Or if it was raining and you where dying of Hypothermia and you where't allowed to make fires in the Rain or inside. Only certain obscure sheds worked... Or how one bullet somehow can destroy a full backpack worth of content. Dunno if thats intended, but its damn silly. When things like that just remaines... Ofc it will ruin players experiances. Im not saying things need to be perfect. But many things should have been noticed and tweeked by the devs. They are't exactly helping DayZs already kinda mixed reputation.

So it's summer now... Nearly six months has passed since The beta was supposed to be released. And im guessing it was intended to be released even earlier then that? I mean, I don't think anyone expected Dayz to not be in beta in june 2018.. Yes there is alot of stuff getting reworked... Still it just seems like nothing in this development is going smooth. I myself work in the game industry as a 3d artist. We rely on money from a publisher, we have deadlines and if we fail to deliver... We get no funding and The company is pretty much fucked. If Dayz would have gone the same development route. Dayz would have been dead and burried a long time ago. I know Dayz is very complex...but there must be something more besides that. With that said... I'm still looking forward to Dayz. But my relationship to Dayz is starting to remind a bit of abusive partner that keeps promising things will get better... Since i played DayZ mod I have: Studdied filmhistory & media courses. I have worked as a personal assistant for nearly 2 years. I starten modding and learned 3d modelling. Studdied for 2 years to be become a 3d Artist. I have moved 4 Times. I have had a 5 year old relationship. I have worked in a game company for 1 year. Optimized two games for switch and now im working on a new game. Our new game is set to be released in less then 2 years. I Wonder if we will be done before Dayz is 1.0...

If anything its the hardcore DayZ defenders that has no valid arguments and has a bit of a hostile tone. I mean in your case your being a bit of a twat and a grammar nazi. What are you so offended by? Where is the equivalent of telling someone they have an ugly kid? I wasn’t making a post where I raged about DayZs dev team and calling them various things. No I simply stated that its becoming a bit silly with all these delays. What facts do you find lacking? DayZs Beta release was supposed to happen like six months ago. DayZ has had delays after delays, that alone are facts that DayZs development hasn’t exactly gone smooth. What facts do you expect me to provide? Inside information behind the development of the game? The fact that some people get so hostile and claim that its the equivalent of telling someone they have an ugly kid is maybe overreacting a bit… Communication is like one of the most important part of game development and analyses are still being used, but in a more practical form. Yes it can be useful to write analysis of games. But just like in art, you can study and write papers until you bleed out of your arsehole but it won’t make you picasso. You actually have do things practically, you can’t just read a manual on how to use Maya or Zbrush and then become a pro. The best way to learn is by actually creating shit, while getting help/feedback from teachers and classmates.

That is true, Many times certain parts of the crew needs to move over to something else if they have nothing more to contribute to the project. But I also know that having multiple projects can have an impact. I have no idea how BIS structure is, maybe the new project has a new crew so it won't have any negative effect on DayZs development. However I know that many times, especially the most talented programmers are needed a bit here and there. The studio i’m working on is tiny and is just beginning to grow. But our new project, which we get funding for is top priority. Patching and implementing DLCs for older games is something our programmers only do when they can. The new project under Microsoft that BIS have is gonna be of a higher priority with more set deadlines. Considering all the problems DayZ has had so far, I don’t think its that odd to be at least a little concerned about this. Tho the upcoming project is in Unreal Engine. I’m sure the engine could be attractive for some games. But more and more companies is going over to Unreal, Lumberyard or Unity, mostly because it's so easy to work with and has a lot of documentation. Less known Inhouse engines are less likely to be sought after by other companies. No Higher education courses doesn’t automatically mean a better education. I live in Sweden. For such a small country we are considered one of the leading countries in the game industry. In the education system we have the College game schools and the Vocational Education schools for games. The College schools which is usually 4 years long, unlike my Vocational Education which in my case was 2 years. Still only about 40-50% of the graduating game students from the Collage Schools get jobs afterwards while my school has +80%. In my class 87% of the people worked in the game industry 6 months after graduating. The reason is that Collage Schools fuck around and waste a lot of times on writing papers, doing analysis etc… While our school actually focus on practical stuff you need to know. Learning the most useful programs, working in groups on small game projects and having teachers that has worked in the game industry reviewing your stuff. The top 3 schools for Game development in Sweden are all Vocational Education schools. The leading one got quite recently listed as the 2nd best game design and development school in the world. That's not really the same thing... By your logic a swimming pool will always be wet and the DayZ development will always be problematic because it has been so before. As if it's a certainty it cannot possible change for the better. I like to believe that it can, 0.63 looks promising afterall… But I don’t think its that odd people get a little bit frustrated and complain when stuff just keeps getting delayed. If it gets frustrating for you that people post these threads, then you picked the wrong game forum to sit on. If you think your swimming pool example was right, then you can apply it to yourself. Complaining that there are people complaining on a DayZ forum is like complaining water is wet.

English isn’t my main language and i’m not really writing a report. It’s a simple forum post. Studying media mostly involves practical work. Like editing, filming etc… I should also point out that 3D artists job isn’t writing code. That's what a so called programmer does. Never claimed that I knew exactly what is causing the delays. I’m just stating that the development has no doubt had bumpy ride. And no that's not even up for debate. Anyone except for a few handful hardcore fans would agree on this. https://variety.com/2018/gaming/news/bohemia-xbox-exclusive-1202837394/ The fact that the studio is now working on a completely new game, before DayZ is even close to being done is also troubling. DayZ mod might have been groundbreaking back in 2012. But I think the devs have realized they have kinda missed that opportunity now. DayZ reputation isn’t all that great anymore, they have already received most of the money they can get back when DayZ was fresh. Odds that they will strike gold and get large amount of new fans to pay for the game is unlikely. I really hope it happens tho...But I think they know that they need a more safe backup plan. Sadly that will mean even less focus on DayZ. Anyway this is just pure speculations...Maybe it has no impact on DayZs development. But who knows?

Oh my people are so easily triggerd these days. It was a simple analogy aimed to explaine my thoughts around Dayz. That doesn't mean I think an actual abusive relationship is the same thing. Thought that was pretty obvious. More then anything Dayz is a game that is very special to me. Despite its flaws and troubled development. If it werent, I wouldn't have been on this forum in the first place. I never claimed that the developers where lazy. But there are many factors that can slow down the development of a game. Im sure the People are working hard on it... But unlike you "alpha screamer" I don't think defending them no matter what is The right way to go. By the looks of it.. If things keeps getting delayed...we will be Lucky if we get to see The full game by 2020. That is 8 years after the mod came to existance. Sorry but that not normal game development time.

Like the title says. I have no clue how to know when servers are up or not. Tried to look on the internet, but found nothing

I seriously hope something is gonna be done about the inventory 0.63. Feels worse then ever just because the items are so small. It i's pretty much impossible to see what is. 380 ammo and what is 7.62 ammo. Its just a blure, and the weird grayish tone in the background makes it even worse...I'm sorry but this is just such a massive noob misstake. Even if it's not final, I just find it odd how something like this has gotten all the way to stress test. First feedback anyone with an experianced eye should have been able to say: "Hey this doesn't pop enough, lets do this instead..." Another thing...I'm quite rusty in DayZ and I have played like 5 mins of the stress test...But the Inventory still feels very clunky. Logically you would think that if you have a magazine and you drag the right ammo to it. You would refill the mag....But nope that doesn't happen. What am I missing? Tried to remove the mag from the pistol and load it that way. but that didn't work either. I also don't understand the logic behind if you drag bullets to your gun. you put away your gun and put bullets in your hand. Sure it makes sense for other weapons. But when do you ever need to have bullets in your hand?
-
I know its Alpha and they wanna test the system. But can't they tell its too much currently? Its silly now how two bullets can for example destroy everything in a backpack, jacket and west. All the cans, hundreds of rounds of ammo, other weapons, bandages etc. Yes it punish people who kill others. But its far from realistic and not really fun. It also punish people who just happend to take a hit but get and then realize 50% of their gear and all of their bandages somehow has blown to peices. It really needs to be toned down.
-
Great name on the thread. Yeah its bugged currently. Even when complely soaked in water you can still somehow be hyperthermic.

What is stopping the devs from upping the difficulty?
Evilsausage replied to Capo393's topic in General Discussion
I think its unlikely more Zombies will lead to run and gun. I think it would be nice if Zombies actually where a threat. You will take a big risk firing at them, both because it would alert more zombies and players. You will then really need ammo for surving vs zombies in bad situations. Which will probably mean people don't wanna waste it all in PvP. -
Yes a bullet can break in to peices but you must have a big imagination to think one bullet could affect backpack full of gear. There is no way in million it could somehow split into peices and go through all kinds of stuff in all direction on a big backpack. Thats why I think its exadgerated and it only seems like a poor attempt to prevent kill on sight thinking. So yeah i think the system is flawed...I don't expect full realism but this is just kinda silly.
-
I think your complicating things. I don't really mind if my jacket gets ruined from two bullets even if its a tad extreme. Its all the other gear that somehow takes a equal amount of damage from a single bullet. How could a bullet somehow destroy 5 cans of food, 6 cans of soda, 2 guns, 100 rounds of ammo, 2 bandages, a compas, a gun sight and one can opener? It just becomes ridiculous. Instead each time a bullet hit a certain part maybe a certain % of the items get affected, while others not at all. It could be completley random, but since larger items take more slots they are more likely to get affected.
-
I have seen cases where when you shoot the torso, everything like the west, jackat and even the backpack gets affected. I don't mind that some gear can get damaged, but don't fool yourself by saying one bullet hitting your backpack should effect all the gear in it. Thats completly unrealistic. its also silly how rags or bandages would become unusable from something like that. Its a attempt to prevent kill on sight mentality and i don't mind it if it was more toned down and more believable. Still even with this system people kill eachother and the reason is because thats the only really fun thing to do in the game. If there where other real actuall threats like zombies, enemy NPCs and all that im sure it would force people to team to team up. Having a system that basically destroyes all gear from a few bullets is just dumb.

OVERHEATING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Evilsausage replied to wampa's topic in General Discussion
The game is just buggy, one time i got online(it was raining) i started overheating with my char instantly. Tried swimming and shit and the char was complely drenched. Still I was overheating, even in a rainforest that shit shouldn't be possible. Good news is that overheating isn't a big deal, you lose a bit more water. -
The Melee combat....Worst shit i have seen in any game.
Evilsausage posted a topic in General Discussion
So I got back to DayZ today, played the mod alot when it was new but standalone was unplayable due to all the lag. However the new patch has changed that, It was also fun to finally be able to explore the new areas! But what really took me out of the experiance was the melee combat. After all this time and the melee weapons are actually worse then they where in the mod. Atleast then a axe worked like a gun back then, it hit stuff where you aimed, now it seems completely random if you hit or not. I could just be doing it wrong, but the other player i fought also couldn't hit shit. We where running around like retards for nearly 10 mins before i finally won the fight. I was trying to aim at the body, at the head, at the legs, go close, attack further back and still it felt completly random when i actually got a hit on him. I know arma isn't ment to have melee combat, but this is just silly I can't think of any other game that has worse melee then this. It also doesn't help when the zombies are buggy as hell and do weird spasm animations, If i die because of shit like this its just off putting. I really want to like DayZ again and im gonna give it some more time. Hopefully I can avoid going melee. Still this is soo bad....bad.........baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad................................................................................bad..bad bad....very very bad. -
Problem is the pvp aspect is the only real tense part of the game where you really get to use your weapon/gear. At a certain point it gets dull to search town after town. Then people shoot eachother, doesn't really matter that most of the opponants gear gets destroy, its the kick to win a battle that matters. If the game actually had a zombie threat where guns is a must have at times, then its more risky to waste ammo on players and you might actually benefit teaming up with them.

The Melee combat....Worst shit i have seen in any game.
Evilsausage replied to Evilsausage's topic in General Discussion
Yeah those games have some nice melee also really love the old Jedi knight games, they got awsome lightsabre fights. Darksouls also got pretty nice melee, even if its over the top. Yes DayZ does have intressting mechanic that has potential, but it doesn't change the fact that its totaly horrible atm. The swing arc seems odd, somtimes when swinging inside a building you hit a roof even if it doesn't look close enough. Ofc major problems with syncing, your not really sure where that player really is when you strike. The weapons are very uneven in how they preforme and alot of them overall seem really bad. There is no real way to completly counter a flailing zombie, most of the time they will get hits in just because they can strike outside your range. Or its the desync that makes them look like they are outside range..Zombies should definatly be a threat in melee, but not due to BS like this. The hits blood- and sound effects are horrible. Overall the movement in Arma 2 and DayZ is very twitchy, making all kinds of close combat really messy. A person with a shotgun can actually have a major problem countering a guy that attacks with melee, just because he moves around so much combined with the desync. Now im not saying its bad a guy can do harm in melee, but it feels silly when somone runs around zigzagging in melee to win. Thats not a how a melee fight should look like. Imagine a working melee system where a strike can knock the guy with the gun back, making him lose his sight or even drop the gun. While people at the same time can block, i would love you could use your riflestock in combat for example, both blooking and striking. But ofc it could damage the weapon. -
So after having played DayZ now this last week I have to say DayZ SA has gotten better. But that isn't really saying much, since before it was pretty much unplayable for me. Anyway I had some good time in it, I survived for quite some time but in the end i died, ofc in typical DayZ BS manner. Tried to swap backpack in a Military barrack, didn't work, then i put my backpack on the ground, ofc it dissapears, shortly after a player attacks me in the barrack, but I kill him. Ofc my Magnum bullets destroy EVERYTHING he is carrying in backpack, west, jacket and pants. Not only that his corpse blocks me from leaving the place(why do corpes have collision like that?), can't vault because of the low roof and can't crawl pass him. Can't hide his body either.... So my only choice is to logut, but ofc im dead when I log back in. Im not that salty over that death itself, but i think it kinda sum up DayZ...stuff is still a buggy mess. Yes I know its Alpha, but seriously it seems to take forever to get past that stage. So it feels like i might aswell wait some time before I try this again. Its a shame, I really like the atmosphere, all the gear searching and the new places to explore. But besides that it has alot of problems. -The game has pretty much no Zombies, They would add alot to the game. making it more tense to explore areas and guns would be needed for other stuff then PVP. I hope it will be possible sometime soon now when the preformance is alot better. -THe concistancy in some functions is kinda badly designed, I can't drink water unless i got both hands free but i can for some reason climb ladders. Sometimes I can switch weapon, other times I can't. Sometimes i can vault over a fence other times not. you get the idea. -The Melee combat is a mess, people running around zigzagging like angry bees. And its overall just very random when you get good hits in. Its also really messy to use guns in close combat, It feels alot better in Arma 3 for example. -Some features seems too complicated for their own good. Like the bloodbag system, I just find it unlikly that the majority of people will ever use it. It is time that could have been spent on something more important. Seems like the devs experiment with alot of stuff that just end up getting removed or sees little or no use in the game. I remember you where ment to have dogs at one point, what happend to that? Or all those diseases? -The Inventory was so damn confusing at first. And It has some really annoying stuff, like if you try to chamber a round and pick the wrong round by misstake. Then you end up putting away your gun and putting the rounds in your hand...Why? There has to be a better way to prevent stuff like that. I also don't understand why weapons don't show what ammo they are using, If its realism they are going for then why does it give other info like: "this is a ww-2 era bullet blabla" Why not have useful info instead, otherwise people will just google it. -My character was Hypertermic almost the whole time even after swimming and being compleatly soaked. No big deal, but just one out of many many bugs. -The loot balance seems to be a bit odd. A tad too many standard weapons while too few magazines. Doesn't really make sense that there are so few magazines. Overall it feels like there is something lacking, once you managed to survive the first hour you usually won't have any problem getting food/water. It becomes a search for guns, but at a certain point because the world feels so empty you start searching for the PvP rush just because thats the most fun part of the game. I hope there will be mores stuff to do in the game, just having more zombies would make the exploring more fun. Even if the game has improved it still makes me a bit sad that DayZ is still far from what I thought it would be by now. Think i will give it 6 months or year before i give it a go again.
